@supah: Yeah so that cliffhanger was the spoiler from last week in the previews. My mouth dropped and went "You did not just do that to yourself show." In my shocked state I thought they'd do it at the last two minutes of Tuesdays episode just to be like that. But the last few minutes of today's episode is just fine.

MW, you are on the fast track to being a wife beater. In fact, I think you're already there. MJ, RUN. Run for your life!

@janna
Crazy, right? It seems far too early on.
Oh man, MW -- that lunatic! It's defo ALL because of KM.

I really hope SM doesn't get killed off or anything (or at least not till the bitter end, please, show?). I think that's the only thing that'd make me break up with this show for good.

@diadda: (mumbles) Yeah I didn't watch Hotelier...it's on my "to do" list. I refuse to watch the Japanese remake; because I be hatin' remakes and I heard it sucked.

I think my list of men need certain characteristics:

1) The look (You made me realize there is no Eric. THERE IS NO ERIC @#^@#)
2) Attitude, or lack there of might be better (Song Seung Heon, there's the door. Make use of it)
3) Popularity (too much is a bad thing. ... also no one will share Chun Jung Mung. Just let me have him on Tuesdays or something. ... please?)

There is too much to look at, and I realize my taste happens to be more of a squishy nice guy than a shirt ripping crazy town beast so the list is at least balanced. But all of them manly men? I can pick a handful out that, well, aren't.

@supah: Stuff is definitely starting to move at breakneck speed, so I wonder what types of twists and turns the writer has up his sleeve. I agree with your sentiment, I've heard things not good before about SM. Like, at any moment he can be in deep trouble so I worry what will happen to him. He needs to pack up late at night and get out immediately.

I can't stop watching No Other, and before that it was the Boom Boom performance on Inkigayo. The only thing I can use to break the Super Junior loop now is Norazo's "Curry". Once the giggling fit stops I can safely go back to my dramas.

@janna and supah

Hotelier is just an Ok drama. A typical setup, typical storyline with predictable end and the acting wasn't awful. Bae is what makes it worth watching he is what makes it special. I found myself looking for his next scenes more than once.

As for Chun Jung Mung, you can have him on tuesday. That is my assigned day with Kang Ji Hwan. But you better give him right back. I don't except excuses. "Ohh I must have misplaced him" :)

@ V
Soo happy to see ya again!
You mean, Lee Beom-soo in episode 15? Yeah, this was my favourite episode with him so far, I would say KM gave us plenty of glimmers that he's the one who will carry the show later and somewhat came away from his nobody persona (or ''dog'' as everyone calls him). Still it was Mi Joo who stole the show for me.

@ janna
______SPOILERS______
Was it Director Min (formerly KCIA Leader/played by Lee Ki Young) who set that report on fire? Aw man!!
I was just beginning to root for him. Rule of thumb for us: do not trust anybody, not even Hong Ki-pyo. (We're in 'swords before words' territory now, bo!)

Show can't do that to SM. I understand it's no fairy tale, but I'm sure there's still a long way for him to go, so if they ever intend to bump him off they had better do it AFTER the halfway mark or something (30 eps). Not. Yet.
I've wailed like an ahjumma many times for SM, as KSH and now as PSM (don't know about you but that scene where he's flung into the filing cabinets was ooouch!), both actors endeared LSM to us on top of him being the silent and deadly sort. Sigh, such an iconic, compelling character. There is no way the show would be so suicidal to write him off. Or will it?
The fact that we know the final face-off will be between only KM and CPY does worry me. It means all the other competition will either have been eliminated or have bowed out. Let's hope SM's absence is 'cause he bowed out and headed off to Jeju-do for some relaxation.
Random but have you ever wondered where he lives now? It’s certainly not with the Cs.
More randomly, Mr and Mrs Hong, the best (the truest) Giant OTP, ever.

They missed out Jang Hyuk too, but then what do they know of the wonders of Chuno? :(
(OK, cr*p drama, but brilliant main male lead --- and well, two villians.)

Wasn't really expecting a breakthrough with Hotelier, it stars Song Hye Kyo after all, but I'm kinda OK with her since All In. Will keep an open mind about BYJ (poor guy, that photo -- eeeep!).

@ diadda, supah and janna

Yup, it is Hotelier that made me a BYJ believer. I watched Winter Sonata first but he didn't blow me away there but he (in diadda's word) is the one who makes Hotelier worth watching. Your eyes naturally glued to him whenever he's in a scene. His Frank Shin character is one of my top three super perfect kdrama men together with that of Jang Dong-gun in All About Eve, Kang Ji-hwan in Be Strong Geum Soon - purely selected on cheesy-superficial level, hehe. I can re-watch these three dramas all the time, ie the scenes with these guys with their leading ladies!!

However, the post-long hair/feminine BYJ just makes me cringe - so, so very sad!

@supah

Chino was not cr*p drama!

It was Ahjumma Fanfic at its finest!

Three hot barely dressed men run around with sweat and swords a blaze. Chasing after more hot men who also have to get their clothes removed. There is a love plot line with some females, but they don't matter so much and should have as little screen time as possible. Only the hot men half dressed sweaty with their swords matters. Chuno Forever!!!

@epyc
About Bae, maybe he just can't take a photo recently or something. He hasn't been in any dramas now for 3+ years so I really can't say how much of the Hotelier whammy magic is lost. I do think the longer hair looks WAY better on him for photos. But dramas?....Hotelier he didn't have the long hair.

I'm finally caught up on Baker King, and I enjoy it, even if the baking parts are like the cooking parts in Pasta (lol), and that the background story is so confusing to me that I need a pen and paper to figure out who gave birth to whom, who is secretly in love with whom while married/not married to whom, whose parents are whom, who grew up to be whom (!) and who died/didn't die and who thinks versus who really knows who died/didn't die...........
I'm so confused, but so intrigued.

OK, I watch Hotelier this weekend. No more procrastination. If epyc says it's re-watchable than I must watch it, at least once.
Btw, read your comment about the pleasures of marathoning a show as opposed to watching it live, and I'm with you. Giant is killing me, KILLL.LING. G.G.G. MEEEE!!

OK, Giant 16: The awe-to-the-some!

SPOILERS!!
First few moments - so v. precious. *tears*

JY is... meooww! (Hwang Jung-yun, is that you? Where have you been all these episodes? I've missed you!)
All we're missing now is his pack of dawgs from school who used to ''OooOoh'' in unison behind him, to up the fun, camp factor. But this is good enough.

Janna, we need a new drinking game, one shot for everytime JY implicitly slaps MW.
Another one for everytime he makes the 'angry face': eyes bloodshot red and face literally blistering with the 'heat of his fury', haha! As satisfying as it is to see him like that, I must admit, it's a tad worrying. (Mi Joooo, runnn!) JY won't always have KM there to break up their catfights.
Alas, KM is destined towards a greater path on which to tread, and his journey starts... right about now. Be strong Kang-mo-yah!! Be strong. *sob*

The events towards the end: saw the ends coming, just the means were totally unpredictable. And really Park So-tae! You've disappointed me. You really are a gangster, who's loyal to none. No wonder KM used almost pummeled you to death with a pool ball once and the many other times you've had a good hiding from him. You just don't learn.
But you too, PST were in the flashforward, you also have a looong way to trek. On yer' way, sonny.
(Oh wait, sonny is a CPY's term of endearment for SM.)

@v: I should send you some lucky charms for school! Or maybe Lee Seung Gi. I heard he's pretty smart. I'll go find him and ship him out to you. All he needs to do is cut out the 2 hours he probably gets to sleep and eat during the day so he can balance teaching you and filming his drama. Good times for all!

@diadda: I like this offer! But I lose things constantly! (Poor Chun Jung Myun, don't run away!) I also have to uphold the fact that I have said certain things that might implicate a *mine* status on Lee Jun-hyuk. How dare you constantly be making me watch things, Jun-hyuk. If we could just hilariously autotune Kim Jung-eun (How come she sounds fine on Chocolate, but I want to strangle her in Lovers in Paris) then we'd be all set. If this is show is tragically horrible and I have to suffer for you again I will shake my fist at my computer screen and then probably apologize because you're too hot or something. ....The life of a super-fan is hard guys. I gotta go print some of his pictures out and post them places for inspiration.

@supah: I just started watching todays episode of Giant. It's like a thousand degrees of burning hellfire outside, but inside at work was a cold icy tundra. All I could think about today was eating jajangmyun....and. I don't even have any at the moment. That was low, show. Gonna go sob into some tofu now.

In the history of the human race, the most heinous endeavor that humans have engage upon is that of "War".
The question is not about 'Right or Wrong", but at what moment in time it becomes "Justified".
My Great-grandfather lost his life in the Mexican revolution of 1910, he was shoot by the Mexican Army in front of my grandmother when she was @ 9 years old she used to tell us the hardships of surviving a civil war that lasted for well over 10 years.
My mother and 2 of my Aunts work in an exclusive
convention center, the name of the place is call "The Israeli Social Center"
founded by survivors of the Nazi concentration camps.
One of my uncles served in the Koren War he was a "Medic" there.
I met a very fine lady that survive the "Khmer Rouge" genocide in Vietnam an Cambodia, she came from the wealthy families in Vietnam, she lost one brother and one sister the only reason she and the rest of her immediate family survive was because she memorize all the "Communist propaganda songs" and every morning she lead the battalion of communist soldier in the singing of their patriotic songs.
Some of my friends survive the civil war in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Peru.
The son of one of my friends is a Helicopter pilot in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The people that have always suffer the most during this horrible times are the civilian population specially "woman and children" what we are watching here in America is a sanitize version of what is really going on in there, the reality of the horrors of War go beyond what one can describe or comprehend.
I salute with a humble heart those who fought for the right of any human being the be free, even when for some, freedom has become just another cliche!!!!!!

Oh Hotelier love! I'm not sure I want to rewatch all of it but the kiss scenes in the elevator and Casablanca lounge, yes I could rewatch. I fell so hard for BYJ during WS and Hotelier but now mostly cured by his overly freaky chiseled body with the head of ahjumma and Micheal Jackson-esq antics. He is like a human chimera.

The highs for me were the kiss scenes. No one in kdrama kissed for real and with so much passion back in the day. The most you got was a violent hug with the limp arms at the side from the girl. I remember my early days watching kdramas was like Cinema Paradiso's Salvatore pining to see just one real kiss scene so Hotelier totally rocked back then and just think how lame the Full House kiss was and then compare that FH is 3 years later than Hotelier.

The lows were the english speaking scenes which thankfully pretty much ended in the early episodes. I'm sure the nuremburg trials would be easier to endure but somehow I managed through one of the worst english-speaking scenes ever in the history of kdrama. Why they don't bother dubbing parts like that is beyond me esp. considering Frank is suppose to be an American. Its even stranger still since Leo his little sidekick has much better English.

Thankfully BYJ is always charismatic with enough acting chops to be believable in all his roles and he still had his cute crooked teeth back in hotelier days. Also while I happen to like Song Yun Ah, her character was such a bumbling idiot . I'm not sure how she managed to stay employed at an elite hotel like Seoul Hotel. I think if I was Frank, I would have fired her during the takeover/management change and then woo her with the Chaumet necklace.

Wow, GER V ESP, crazy, atmospheric match. Not a pessimist but had a feeling the Germans wouldn't go through to the finals, simply because no matter how strongly they perform there's always some kind of barrier which restricts them at the end, maybe it's because they're far too precision-built and just not flexible enough... *scratches head* or maybe they're still under some kind of curse for being 'German' (oooh!).

Anyway, both teams played stupendously well, but Spain owned this match.
Can't wait for the final.

Oh and while I'm on the football trip: I'm still kinda incensed about the Uruguay v Ghana match, ok, fair enough they lost, but after every match I really appreciate the good spirit where players from the winning team go over to players from the defeated team, embrace, swap t-shirts etc. Now Ghana were dev.a.stated (which was totally understandable on many levels) yet none of the Uruguayans approached the Ghanaians after the match. Zilch, zero. That stung, man! I don't even need to spell it out.

Off to watch Bad Guy #8.

Word! But after the Gaze Seige in Jan 09, many peoples perceptions about the Israel-Palestine conflict changed 360. And, the US Army are the biggest, most shameless bastards in the whole of history, everrr. Jus' sayin.
It's fine saying 'war is wrong', but saluting those who invade other countries is even more screwed up.

Gaza* d'oh!

Not that 'freedom of speech' really exists (let's just say during Jan 09 when I tried v. noiselessly raising some money for Gaza, I almost lost my job, amongst many other things.), but all I want to say is, I don't mean to offend anyone but war is an extremely touchy subject and I'm sure each and every one of us has a heated thing or two to say about it, no matter which side we take. (And take sides we do.)

@ supah.
My dear supah, the reason that I wrote that post last night was after watching the Japanese movie , "Grave Of The Fireflies (Live-action version"), this movie is set during world war ll, I do not know if you have seen it yet, but there is a scene where the little girl @ 5/6 years old who is one of the main characters dies eventually of starvation because she and her brother did not had enough food to eat, that scene took me by surprise, and to say the least it brought me to tears, at that moment I was not thinking about who was right during that war, but it portrait the reality of how cruel, and heinous war really is.
We may argue all day long about the conflicts around the world, and try to come to a con-census about about the validity of both sides of the conflict, but I must say that at the end of the day the worst tragedy of war is the demise of the "Innocent" regardless of what side we take.
P.S By the way I am not patronizing the way you feel about this subject....I totally understand where are you coming from!!!

@ nypcgirl and other Hotelier (to-be) watchers

Oh yeah, the elevator kiss!! Although it is universally acknowledged the City Hall kiss is the best (save belleza who got impregnanated by that in IRIS), I'd say the Hotelier kiss is up there among the very best. I love it how Frank simply doesn't care about the world in 'forcing' his way in to make the message cross (and well, his character doesn't care about anything anyway until he meets the love of his life). And, so many years on, I can't find another comparable kdrama kiss - just don't even mention Full House as that is the BIGGEST let down EVER! (Aren't we all the little Salvatore!)

And, my Hotelier re-watch is not a whole run. It starts at the 300 Roses Restaurant (and all those English-speaking scenes are totally skippable..) I also skip the SHK scenes and am not interested in her storyline at all. It is just all the BYJ-SYH-KSW interactions that I care. There are three great scenes in this drama: the elevator kiss, the casablanca lounge (thrillingly sexy), and the KSW Time to Say Goodbye walking sequence. I, of course, root for BYJ in this drama but the KSW walking sequence without a single word spoken always gets me teary. What a man, what a wasted opportunity! Sigh for him every single time.

We need the old BYJ to come back. Did anyone see the wedding scene of the Winter Sonata anime that was shot earlier this year? It actually has BYJ and CJW acting out in real at that seaside villa. The clip can easily be found at YT. It's a short-haired BYJ (with a retro 70/80-ish cut). His face looks so bloated there - too much botox? I am surprised given he's apparently one who cares about his look.

But first, getting through other things like how I watched the first ten minutes of yesterdays Giant and then had to work and yes, now I have to get back to even more work. Cheers bro, I understood where you were coming from too. And yes, Grave of the Fireflies is an extremely precious film to me (never really finished the dorama version) and I'm sure there are many others who think likewise. Because of its simplicity and that it doesn't need to preach to its audience yet it conveys the strongest possible anti-war message out there.

Comrades in Arms, the currently airing kdrama is meant to carry an anti-war message, and I will definitely watch that at some point (once Giant finishes in Nov.) but no matter how praiseworthy it is, I doubt it can touch GotF in terms of life-altering impact (imo).

@janna
Yikes, I was grouchy about my work, but it ain't one to infringe on my quality drama-viewing time.
Just wait till you watch Giant 16, just. You. Wait!
