You remember the strangest things...LOL Now I'm so very curious to know how that conversation started in the first place. I really don't remember.

@Kender
Different strokes for different folks ;) And I'm still not sure who I like best among the Arashi boys. I just remember when they fail? Like when -and I swear this is just a coincidence- MatsuJun was playing computer!golf on a variety show and he somehow broke...something, I don't remember if it was the giant screen or a camera, I only remember I was LOLing so hard that I had tears in my eyes. LOL

@Sere

How did any conversation ever get started on OT? Always with a completely random thought. I remember someone said Mexicon roosters go.......and I was dying with laughter. Too bad I don't remember anymore. Only that is clearly was NOT cock-a-doodle-do.

We need to add nyang-nyang and wang-wang to the list is all. Though, honestly, where'd the Japanese come up with these? *scratches head*

Never heard a cat go nyang or a dog go wang in my entire life.

Meow, reow, neow - yes. Woof, moof, roof - yes. Japanese dogs and cats of the human-sized variety are very dainty in the noises they make, is all I have to say.

The aspirational gap drama has an alliterated name, last clue imma going to give.

@hjomo

So I should jump back into Gloria? Half of Suh Ji Seok's face acting only doesn't bother you? I hate dropping dramas, and Gloria really had no glaring faults. I shall add reminder to welcome it back to my embrace soon.

Omo, I just realized that in yesterday's FoD episode 6, Yoo Seung Ho did not have a single line of dialogue even though he was in 2/3rd of the episode. Jung Ha Yeon is seriously fermenting insanity on my brain.

I have a new category for end of the year awards, the major stations out to take note.

Crazy Eyes!

Seeing as how Shin Eun Kyung and Seo Woo are neck-in-neck for crazy eyes of the year award.

And In Woo from SKKS is s shoo-in nomination.

So is Satan's Daddy over in Giant. Speaking of which, Giant continues to confound me. I'm actually feeling empathy for psycho bitch mom. What a good script and good acting can do never fails to amaze me.

@Kender

Mung-mung? Cute but rather depressing.

WOW, Giant, just FBUCKING WOW!
:fcukyeahleeseongmo: One of the most epic characters ever written and played by one of Korea's most epic actors, everrr. Bo! He made me laugh and then cry at the drop of a hat this episode on top of being his usual amazing self. *swoon*
One thing I fear most about show is they'll be bringing capital punishment in into it at some point a la Sandglass (where it made narrative sense) and Fashion 70s (where it was nought but a contrivance), please writer Jang, don't you do that, it's not like you're teaching lessons in morality though show or something, it's totally not your style.
And another gripe is that I've quite feverishly been anticipating the inevitable epic-smackdown between Min Hong-ki and CPY since like episode 7 ago (knowing how important it'll be for SM's fate)! And things are beginning to happen, but... Huh? What the hell is slimebaggy HTS doing there? Seong-mo!? That can't be right? Really? What is he doing there rubbing shoulders with MHK the Great? Why is HE even part of the equation, Seong-mo?

By ze way I luuurved the backup dancers doing the robot dance, they were SO 80s, did you see their fluffy, punky hair, the guyliner and the gloves? Finally, Giant.
I would like Mi-joo to be more like this (the first image that pops up when googling '1986 fashion':
http://www.windycitydolls.com/images/mattel/2009/Rockers.jpg -- but she's close enough, though her stage hair is questionable.
And I like that Kyeongok has pretty much nailed this look: http://www.wku.edu/library/kylm/collections/online/fashion/clips/patterns/overall/1986.jpg

Oh and I do feel for poor Min-woo, I do. But blame it on his fantastic acting and selling his smarmy asswipe self so, so well that I have difficulty seeing him in any other light, and like the cliffhanger? Out of those two aren't we viewers auto-inclined to think: fcukyeahleegangmo!? And dieminwoodiedieeeeatthehandsofgangmothegreat!?

All I know is my daughter will KILL me if I don't get her tickets for this. We missed the 2AM/ 2PM and Wondergirls concert tickets by one day. I promised her, that I would get her DBSK or BIGBANG tickets when they came to town. Now I have to deliver on my promise. We'll probably be the only Pakistani's at the concert. We should get front row seats and freak out the band. (These crazy South East Asians thought they were going to an Indian concert and came here by mistake) Muhha Haa

Aspirational Gap -- What happens when what I perceive a drama as aspiring to achieve and how I actually experience it are miles apart:

http://thundie.wordpress.com/2010/06/08/prosecutor-princess-the-curious-case-of-the-near-miss/

Don't forget to read the outraged comments. Think that was outrage? There was far more outrage on the soompi thread on PP. I'd give you a link but I'm scared I'd be lynched if I log in there ;-)

And I don't even hate PP! It was just a miss for me.

My favourite soompi criticism was something along the lines of "Stupid reviewer doesn't know what she's talking about, of course public prosecutors do autopsies, I saw it on "Law and Order"". Er. Right. The other classic, "How can she decide she doesn't like it when she's only watched 8 episodes?" Er, I'd say 8 ep.s was fair chance, some people give up on a drama after 20min!

I agree with you on PP. I was really bothered by the confidentiality lapses and her schizophrenic personality. I couldn't watch or even read recaps about this series without wanting to throw my computer. I even tried justifying it in my head that maybe Korea has different laws or expectations for lawyers, but I couldn't make myself believe it for long. I rarely ever watch law dramas, because I feel like they're all written by people who have friends who have heard of someone who knows a lawyer. This one... while better than some... was still completely awful.

@ brookeeve

High five!

It's true that Korea has a civil law system which is a bit different from the common law system (US, UK). For instance, in a civil law system a magistrate would have more investigative powers than a judge in a common law court. I don't know to what extent a civil law prosecutor actually investigates case - possibly more so than in US / UK, but I'm SURE they do not go around on private sting operations to discover new cases to be investigated. And I'm pretty darned sure they don't conduct autopsies. Don't you need, like, a medical degree? It's an insult to forensic pathologists the world over!

I have to confess I didn't make full disclosure in my review. I'm a lawyer. So I kinda know what I'm talking about. But I didn't think it would be seemly for a lawyer to be beating fluffy harmless show over the head with the Big Stick of Proper Criminal Procedure.

Anyway, the risible law doesn't even bother me the most. Hey, I watched "Partner" and all its bonkiness, 'cos the lead couple chemistry was HOT! I gave up on PP mostly because I had no interest in the romance. Creepy patronising puppet-master wins so-inept-she's-cute ingenue? No thanks.

There are certain states in the US where all one needs to have to become a coroner is a high school diploma; however, most places require at least a degree in Biology. Either way, reports would be written and then those would be studied by the lawyer or clerk for evidence. Also, most morgues are not open to the public (including lawyers) without a warrant, which would be given to an investigator, not a lawyer. Any evidence collected by a lawyer straight from a morgue would be thrown out in a sane court of law, as lawyers have a point to prove and they are not experts. Also, you could show a dead body to most lawyers, and they could probably confirm that it was in fact a dead body, but beyond that they are not qualified to judge anything else about said body.

I'm not a lawyer. I've just taken lots of law classes for my degrees.

I love dramas, but I do think that they could use just a tiny bit of advice from experts.

Required fields are marked *

I don't even expect complete veracity. In fact, I don't want real life law. Because, frankly, a real lawyer's life and work is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. But it's nice if a drama isn't completely and utterly insulting one's intelligence or knowledge of the world we live in!

PP? Gahh... Let's not even...
I'm still so, so bitter about the HJS/KSY OTP not working out. Everything else is relatively evil.

Still, Road gets my vote for epic failure of 2010. Yes, there's a ginormous 'aspirational gap' but it also totally wasted its cast's talent. Choi Min-soo, So Ji-sub, Sohn Chang-min... (who I recently fell in love with in Mr Housewife -- best dad, ever!). Aaargh, all of them, so wasted.
(Though I've not actually seen Road, does that cancel out the vote?)

I'll read your entry more carefully (I've just skimmed), check my notes on PP and then I'll comment on your blog, BUT yeah, I can already tell you I understand where you're coming from. I had SOOOOO many problems with that drama, esp the first half of it, and I do understand why you dropped it at ep 8. Oh hey, if I forget to comment, which is possible because, please don't take it the wrong way; I really do want to comment, but, as you know, I've got the attention span of a goldfish and I forget things...

BTW, soompi scares me, too. I'm mostly worried about spoilers though come to think of it, there won't be such a problem on an old thread, but -again- I understand why you'd say that.

Required fields are marked *

I started watching after ep 8, stopped at 10, then read random recaps. I could've cared less about the law stuff. I couldn't even tell you what actually happened. I was mostly interested in stalker Clark Kent. I do think its sad though that fans don't respect that people are gonna be bothered by the absolute disassociation with reality. Drama is a story, fiction, fantasy, so to a degree we all decide "suspend belief" and place ourselves in that drama's world, accepting its truths and ideologies, however, it has to resonate with the viewers' perception of tangible ideas on some concrete level. While some dramas set out to do this, others pretend to be "real" and are laughably "false." However the same is true for viewers, some are bothered by this, while others aren't. On some level, I believe art in all forms creates these types of distinctions, subgroups. Its very interesting.

And you're right, I find it interesting that people can give up entirely on a show(they wanted to see) in 20 mins. However 8 eps was entirely too long. With Kdramas, I truly believe if it hasn't hooked you by ep 5 chuck it. Then by 12 if the writers have lost their minds or you lose interest, you can just pretend the drama ended. Its better to let a drama go than to look back and say "What the F was I doing for the past 8/10wks!"

Wow! This is crazy...over 640 posts! It's been awhile since I've been here, but since I got a tweet about the OT, I had to come check it out.

Hey to everyone! It's been awhile!

I was in Atlanta for the weekend so I had a chance to watch Ajusshi in theatres. And that Won Bin is super hot in the movie (and his voice! was his voice always so lovely?)...the scene where the camera lingers on the 6?8?12? 24? pack Won Bin was amusing because there was a definite "sigh" in the audience. Fun fun stuff!

Worst drama of the year? Pootang #1 is definitely up there. Seriously so much wasted potential and all those cameos ::sigh:: Best drama? I haven't finished Comrades and am way way behind on Giant...but JXF is the awesomesauce...

Hey everyone! Just wanted to stop in. Its been awhile. Hope everyone had a great weekend and has begun a prosperous and painless week!

I'm still watching GIANT, in the mid/late 30's now. I took a long break and marathoned about 10 eps. For show's like GIANT, I can't watch it raw cause too many important things are going on and subs are never out quick enough(when you're engrossed in the story. No gripes with subbers.)

Mmm and I'm devouring Joseon Crack along with reading every recap ;) cassie, red pill...adore you! I just watched episode 16 and after 15 I realized that I really may be in love with MJS. I wasn't loving him before(he was just hot) but now, something has changed...

I gave up on PK at ep 4. Though it was girlfriday's recap of 2 that made me want to check it out, after I saw 4, I just haven't really been interested in watching it again. I blame Ha-ni, but mostly my inability to identify with her, or find her cute, or sympathize with her plight etc.(Very similar to how I react to every scene in which Miju cries over MW, or won't eat or runs out of hospitals... NOT MOVED. Well to do anything but slap a ho ;) ) Anyway, I'm sure these issues have been driven into the ground. My drama buddy yells over the phone for 15 mins per week over her hatred for her and I'm sure she isn't the only one.

Other than those I've just begun Painter in the Wind and I am enjoying it. One thing though, for anyone who remembers, did the 1st ep feel like it began in the middle of the series, or was that just me?

I like Dr. Champ and took a peek at Flames of Desire. I saw the 1st ep and the preview for the 2nd and realized I need to wait a few weeks and start there. I really don't want to see all the havoc and wreckage she creates and leaves behind in the past. Once the present picks up again, so will I (though I'm not convinced my heart can take it.)
Oh and well, I'm watching Plan Bi. (Why does that feel embarrassing?) Not for Bi per se, cause I don't find him attractive at all and I know I don't have to mention his acting... It is entertaining though. Its hilarious, when its not trying to be, plus I can't resist the other eye skittles and the hope of seeing OJO just one more TIME! I enter each ep with clasped hands and an open heart :) Also I like guessing which Chuno star will show up each episode.

Ah I've blabbed enough. Happy watching kids! Lord knows I am!

Giant 46 [SPOILERS!]
No, no, no, no, why?!?!
Hwang Tae-sub, you baaaastard! How could you have let things come to this? I respected that person, I really did. Because that person put their son before HTS.
So HTS has atleast two major debts that need clearing INDIVIDUALLY, please, that's for both Seong-mo and Jung-shikee. Not everyone's so easily forgiving a la Gang-mo and Kyeong-ok. Hope they give him a real hard time for it, ind.i.vi.du.al.ly.
And Seong-mo! Good grief! I almost DIED from the anxiety. I see that look across your face, SM, it reads 'fcuk you, CPY'. I'm banking all hope on you pulling out of this one just as you did the first time around, back when you were a frightened, teary-eyed Kim Soo-hyun, if you were iron-willed then, you are even more so now, as a man of authoriteh.
And Min Hong-ki, here's where you're needed, show us your qualitehh. War is officially ON.

Man, I'm still crying over it. And no, didn't watch the previews. Everytime I'm even a wee bit tense about SM's fate, I stop watching the previews, they give far too much away. I was in tears when he repeated a certain line with Gang-mo, it was assuring, but cryptic as ever… Just, I'm expecting some epic dialogue between CPY-SM for next episode, I'm expecting fcuking poetry.
What truly worries me is if MHK does reverse the events of episode 8 ('hands off my boy!'), it will out SM, and that will be quite catastrophic on so many levels. Anyways, it was quite a weepy episode, even MW, MJ and JY got me, really felt for all of them. But gotta hand it to Kim Jung-hyun and Park Sang-min this episode, they were sensational. And whoever thinks KJH can only play wiley, cunning (more like idiot!) characters like Jung-shikee* (and QSD's Hajong, ew) should see him as the young Tae-soo in Sandglass and in the short thriller drama La Vie En Rose as a super-cute rookie cop who falls for some notorious crimelord's daughter. He's pretty damn awesome acting-wise.

*Yes, I'm well aware his name is Jung-shik, but I can't help it with the suffixes, all members of the Hwang family have the suffix 'eee' with their names, and like Seong-mo is automatically 'Seong-mo-nun' (and ''chunneh''/sonny, ahem), and there's 'Gang-mo-yaaaaahh'', 'Ya Hwang Jung-yeon-igu *crack*!' (inspired by the infamous Kim Doo-han intro line, ever since she learned how to punch like that), 'Mi-joo-yah', 'Min-woo-sshi', 'Soo-jin-'eyy..' and so much more.

***!superfantastic japanese drama roundup time!***

Guilty: I will look beyond the bad this season, such as computer generated death. Wait, I always seem to watch Kanno Miho shows. I've seen her do evil, I've seen her work with Tamaki Hiroshi. Now, have I seen her do both?! Well I'll give it another episode, hope it's not a Dexter kill-o-da-week thing.

Himitsu: nonononononono-Won't touch that with a 10ft. pole. Shida Mirai is like the overworked Sana in Kodomo no Omocha. Let's pretend this show doesn't exist.

Juui Dolittle: Wan-wan-nine. Get it? (long sigh)
I will look beyond the bad Alf-puppet-kitteh and continue to watch. Fujisawa Ema! Fujisawa Ema! Did you know who I'm watching this for?

Perfect Report: Wasn't this show called Top Caster with Amami Yuki? Matsuyuki Yasuko needs better roles >:|

The others: You'll like them if you like Girl Robots/Horrible detective stories/Ishihara Satomi: Seen 'em but not blown away.

Wildcard time!
Nagareboshi: Surprisingly watchable?! Feeling shades of Ueto Aya when she was at her best, in Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003. It's a watch so far (haven't finished ep 1 but looks promising)

Did you watch Rondo? I couldn't even watch the first episode of that. But man I don't care about the age gap going on here - I'd totally date him. He is showing a little bit of age there. Anyone who doesn't want to date Yutaka is a liar.

I actually don't mind Aya, she gets pigeon-holed into gal-style super-genki roles, but she can do some grit if she wants to. I better the younger drama watchers would say "Yoshitaka Yuriko would have been great for the lead role" and I would say "no, no, no then I wouldn't be able to watch this..."

That being said, the show isn't as gritty as it could be, but the last time I saw a more realistic portrayal of a call girl would be Deep Love or Gonzo, which are like the gritty, gritty shows.

I did watch Rondo... *SIGH* It's right where I expected. I go in just for fangirling and fangirling I did. he's still good but everything around him in that thing is mega fail in my books. That's nth new with MyYutaka. I swoonswoonswoonswoon for him but not most of his dramas or movies in the bigger picture.

I first saw Aya in...yes...KouKouKyoushi2003. I cringed. and cringed. and cringed. Though it's not majorly her fault, I just find the rehash halfassshitery bad even considering my disarming fangirling of Naohito. That and the fact when I saw the 1993 one, I was in highsch and THAT's some controversial drama at the time.

This is not real trouble for me. I've learnt to enjoy my Yutaka despite it all. :)

We'll always have....Ruri no Shima.

Rondo was Yutakas own Tsuki no Koibito nightmare; what a hot mess.

Yeah I didn't see the original of KouKou but I thought Aya and Sonim were alright. I find Fujiki Naohito to be really wooden, he's likable in Hotaru no Hikari, but I don't know how I got through Itoshi Kimi e... (Kanno Miho?)

Beyond it all I'll like to see how people will take the question raised in Nagareboshi. And hell, I actually like Kitano/Matsuda scenes.

0

@Janna

o <333 Ruri no Shima. There are actually quite a few more Yutaka that takes a very strong fangirl to finish, (eg Yankee Bokou ni Kaeru ) I did, so he's MINE! haha

but nononono Rondo is still watchable FWTW. You are not in any way disgusted by Yutaka's char in Rondo, are you? :( He has questionable chemistry w/ CJW, but his chem w/ Nanako in Koori no Sekai ican freeze koori (imo)

OTOH: TnK NOPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I braved till ep3 and I FLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! I'm viscerally disgusted by that drama, even if it's perfectly acted (and of coz everybody surprised us all by united they suck), it's really as Ender's Girl put it, a cheapo gross Harlequin trashy waste of trees that KT wanna flesh out w/ a Teletubby as the token sino girltoy.

Ender Girl took one for the team so all KimuTaku fangirl wont be given the SAW treatment and the reflex of vomit in mouth. But even reading ABOUT TnK in her review is giving me that disgusting sensation, but coz it's not brilliantly hilarious, but TnK is just that gross.

I liked Yankee! Go figure. It was based off a real story and all. The ending song is great.

I think what turned me off in Rondo was all the hype, and then hearing how much CJW wanted the star treatment, blah. Too much BTS drama.. (Daemul, looking at you suspiciously...)

TnK was pretty bad, and it was a hot mess. But at least it was almost getting to that so bad it was good level (no I didn't get through it all). But there is one show I watched to the end, and it never should have happened.. and that show is Slow Dance. ....so....so...so bad. SO BAD.

I can only assume SkkS 16 put everyone is such a tizzy, It finally halted this epic OT's progress.

O Diadda, I can spazz on SKKS16 (if u r joining... o whatever, itchy spazzy fingers)
wanna push to 700 just to celebrate SKKS owning most of our souls?!?!

**spoilers alert?** (for those living in Bikini Bottom)
Let me tell you how INTERESTING~ I watched 16, I dont think I've watched anything like this. Thanks to enabling SKKSers namely Shirley @Soompi for feeding DELISH cuts almost live. Who has self control over THAT?!

so I caught that porno OHNOES SJ *AHHHSOOCUTEEE*
the Kim Yoo...Hee *AHHMickyURSOOCUTE!*
kimbap blankie YHee
the Moony hair playing Yummy (*ENVY*GETAROOMALREADY!...o wait..)
that 'angsty' pillow fight btn Micky and Moony (and I did keep playing the buttBUTTing part 2 trillion times.) I cant fantasize even in my slashing shoujo fiend's dream the boy1boy2 butt BUTTS IN bed. (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHCUTEOVERLOADDD)
Then that SJ *wink* *WINK* *WIINNKK* come over here ALREADY woman!!
Then I have to stop and tidy up myself. and weep happy tears over OT3 of Micky/Moony/Yummy.
I saw that gift fr TPTB boy sandwich of OT3 and the Yummy Gumiwo (TYTYTYTPTB!)
Then the kiss.

And ALL that before 8am my time yesterday! What a way to start a day, huh? a complete brainmush w/ no hope of coherent thoughts?!

But I sleep on it and I claimed back some brainbits. I realized, YHee is off for me this ep. More on that later.

Spoilers

I was making so much noise through this episode that my neighbors thought i was hurt and had to check on me. Seriously! I clapped and screamed and howled like a loony. First at the moony/yummy wrist grab. Yummy is touching moony's forehead and teasing him in that way that makes us all go mushy-messy on the floor, when Moony grabs his wrist in dominance and forces him off. Hehe I think I just started writing fanfic in my head....lol

Then the scene wasn't good enough with moony and smarty fighting over who she should sleep with. No my supper girlie giddies from that were not enough. Writers had to go send in Yummy with his fear of the gumiho monster that would eat him up. And he plops down on Moony to make space! Ahhhh! I died like a thousand deaths. Then as I am surely dead, he rolls his leg over on top of...OMG the videos!

Also smarty could have just had whatever he wanted at any time from Yhee. She put out every signal! He holds her down and she doesn't resist, he holds her close and she doesn't resist. Finally a girl does what a girl has to do and gives it to him. I don't blame her. With and uptight guy like that, she will be doing more of the same in the future. Dare I say pinning him down :)

SPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERS

Let me rant about YH. Irking started in 15.

I'm totally boy biased w/ SKKS, I'm made up that way. MickySJ tearing up in middle of the market w/ PEOPLE around scene tore my bleeding for SJ heart out and her reaction to it is so very underwhelming. Pretty sure that's many many many firsts for SJ (eg drained tear ducts), you know?

And that was one so good love declaration befitting the character. I'm an unromantic shoujo beast if there's sucha thing. Heroes/heroines whose lives depends on LURVE and cant live without it to the point has to run in front of a truck to kill himself can NEVER own me. SJ openly declaring his love for YH is flailing the fangirl me , but the way he puts it, though acknowledging the homosexuality taboo, but stripping that element, what he cares most is NOT his love for her and how BIG MOVING OWNING CONQUERING all it should be. What kills me is how he doesn't assume he'll have a pay back in feelings fr YH. Without downplaying how affecting, earth shattering his love for her is to him, he didnt ask for anything back fr her as if she owes him.

As much turmoil his love for YH has put him through, spread him thin, he can leave his own dignity, pride, beliefs behind and put his concern solely on YH's welling being, how his love for her should not burden her/him. I dig that A LOT.

But YH's reaction to it is not even 1/10 as strong as ME sitting with my laptop and fist in mouth squeeing OMYBLEEDING<3SJ!!!!! She's shocked, understandably. but the same somewhat teary doe eyes that she's been giving us with all the eyeangsting last couple episodes now is not servicing. He's bid his so long farewell, even if she cant have a coherent thought and is dumbfounded, a stronger emotion on her face is nec. *SJ, my love, just a reminder and for your consideration, I squeed OMYBLEEDING<3 SJ for a VERY long time, maybe a whole day for you*

The sneaking a peek in front of HE's place by YH is also bugging me....it's tooo cutesy with none of the angst, longing and all the jealous rage head explosions I would be in if I were YH.

I was trying to wait till I got the other version fully uploaded, (curse my internet upload times) but I totally see what you mean.

This was choice A for a song. The lyrics fit, but the voice is I don't know.
http://www.megavideo.com/?v=H860P1XE

Choice B should be available by morning.

Anyway. Yes that scene was extremely moving. And her attempt to hold in her own emotional responses so as not to let on that she really truly want to be with him I agree it should have been more something from her, especially after he starts to walk away. However I was still please with the scene as a whole cause it works that she is trying to keep it together.

Not only that but the part where they hid from there class mates in almost the same positions as the first episodes was not lost on me. How he could barely touch her but wanted to this time for entirely different reasons....oooo such a good scene.

0

it's just a glip I can overlook.. I dont have time to even notice YHee much tbh haha.

I can overlook her reaction after his confession. I got the shock and I can live with it. It's the giddly fangirl stalking almost prior that is rubbing me a bit wrong esp considering the HUGE buildup. :P

I'm more irked by her almost dangling SJ like a pro in 16. It's like no big deal, life as usual for her, when SJ is this adorkable lovelorned blushing puppy.

I'm just ranting. I squee and squee and squee and still squeeing in my head at many scenes in 16. <3

0

the squee effect has not worn off on me either. I am rewinding parts like a sick little fangirl gone wild. Buttfighting -> get your curt little self over here next to?!?!-> three way sleeping arrangement with yummy in the middle-> Yummy with his leg around moony. Yeah that was all in under ten minutes and all of it was just one more layer of puddle goo. The episode is chock-full of stuff that does these things though.

Moony dang near drowning the presidents men and threatening them to leave YH alone or ELSE.

Yummy and Moony at the river side as he uses that fan on him to tell him where YH has run off to.

And then that conversation with the wrist grab....oooooo. Moony and Yummy. Yes my Korean is still new but I understood that part clearly enough. I know that will be the talk of speculations upon more speculations. Well at least for me.

Anyway for the fans of Giant and heavy metal music....

I find that they fit together somehow rather well. Extremely emotionally charged poetry on both sides.

Aw, Diadda, I loves it! It fits so well.
Yeah... The 1st episode, man! Pretty heavy.
Seong-mo: jumping off the train. *sob*
And Cho Pil-yeon's gun! Thanks for that, I'd thought it was the same 'leeral fren' of his from a previous episode, which he claimed still had three bullets in it, but nay, this from the flashforward is a way updated model.

It's actually been a while since seeing ep1. Even though I'm a sucker for the OST, this is good too!

A Mi-joo one with the song "que sera, sera", or I perhaps I was thinking a fitting song for Kang-Mo is "You only live twice" by Nancy Sinatra (there's a Coldplay version too) the lyrics are..fitting. (I know I talked about "bang bang" in reference to the show before but this song fits better haha)

That will teach me to reply to a post quickly before work.

I need to stop and read first...then post. Yes that works better.

"You only live twice" would be one creepy vid for Giant. Dark, morbid, sad and full of violence. I may try it when I get back from vacation.

MiJoo would also work wonders with Que Sera, Sera.

"All at once" by Jack Johnson I also thought fit this drama as a whole.

Awww, that is so Gang-mo. Bless his heart.
As Seong-mo once said: my little brother Gang-mo, he's full of dreams.'
I've always known of 'Que sera, sera... whatever will be, will be...' but this is the first time actually checking out the lyrics. OK, that's spooky, Einstein.

I have to hand it to Giant for having it all covered from the Korean front, using songs like Lee Mi-ja's Yuraubh Sunjhan/Pure 19 (Mi-joo's song), Mother (Kyeongok's theme), folk songs like Bidan Gudu/Silk Shoes which Mi-joo also sang) and Sano Ramyun/We'll Live On (what the hardened ex-criminals sang as they held hands and went all bromancey).
Funnily enough, this weekend at Frankie and Benny's (yeah, we have those over on this side of the Atlantic, too), I heard one of the songs that were performed during the military base show (there were two, it was the one that came on first, and was followed by the T-Ara girls as The Bunny Girls -- see clip), and then two days after I was walking through a shopping centre and heard the original version of the latter song, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIWAbgYW8Nc

I know there are tons of PK fans out there. I appreciate your love of the show I really do, but I am so flipping depressed about it. I think I should never have started watching this.

About a year ago the news came in that a korean version of the drama(ISWAK) that got me into the drama community. It was the first thing that made me know this was the thing I will be killing time on and enjoying for my near to long term future. After exhausting all the Taiwanese dramas I could get my hands on I moved back to Japan and then found Korea. This was 4 years ago. Korea is frankly where I stayed. I am learning the language, I visited the country and am going back.

I still watch dramas from other countries around the world, but my k-Drama obsession knows no bounds. SO when they decided to merge the two things I loved most in my entertainment world. I just about had a heart attack from the joy of it. I liked all the versions of Itazura Na Kiss. Starting out as a manga that I loved over 10years ago. I loved the Jdrama version although shortened to the point of ridiculousness, the taiwan version that seemed to go on forever, the anime that was cute in the extreme. They all had their faults but I loved them for it. So my anticipation for this merger of my two most favorite things... For those on my FB, go look at my older posts.

After the first disastrous episode, I felt like I was betrayed, I even sent in a long rant to Java cause I didn't know who else to send something like THAT to(bless her for getting the oddest emails ever and never complaining about it). I relegated myself to only reading the re-caps here for my own sanity. I could see the fans of the show and Java and Girlfriday were mainly people who hated the other versions or never saw any other version. Not that there wasn't a very small number who didn't like both. So I thought K, I am being childish about this. I should just think of this as a different show entirely with different characters and try again. Go in with fresh eyes and a positive heart. I even acquiesced and made a vid for one of my friends. I picked it up about episode 5...I just finished episode 15.

and here goes my rant so stop reading if you liked this show cause you shall hate what I am about to say.

This version sucks on every possible level. Acting is only good from the mother. Everyone else is passible or awful. Writing is choppy since the ratings were low and the number of episodes got cut. Not their fault, but still not excusable. Character development is backward in the extreme so no one moves or grows as humans. Stuff just happens to them. That is OK for a slice of life but extremely dull. Is this supposed to be an epic love story that gives you glimpses of two very different people and how each one changes the other? I guess not. Else why would HaNi put up with being treated the way she is from SeungJo. Why get beat up emotionally from someone who is just plain mean. She can draw, is not ugly, and she knew early on if she focused she could get good grades too. Why put up with a petulant child-man who can't figure out what he wants and why. Even in this last episode his non-communication skills and passive aggressive BS is just too much to take.

I purposely am not bringing up any other versions here in comparison cause I think that has been done enough and even at length by me in other posts. I find it ironic that all the reasons other have given for hating the other versions of this show are the same reasons I hate this one. Also because just as a stand alone drama I would rate this thing as my worst drama of the year and maybe ever.

@diadda, hi! i dont usually butt in when its comes to stuff like this but your words are not so easy to swallow but then again i promise myself to try make it short so here its goes.

first, thank you because you did watch PK. even though it doesnt measure to your standard you did watch it. so, still thank you.
second, i admit the show is nowhere perfect but to say that it sucks in every possible way is just plain cruel to my taste but its your opinion and i respect that. hopefully you will respect our views about PK as well.
and third, im glad i dont have the same standard as yours when it comes to drama watching because i think and feel that i would really miss something good IF i didnt watch and appreciate PK the way i do now.

jb and gf, thank you for your kindness in allowing us to lurk around dramabeans! i always look forward to your great recaps and witty comments!

So glad you spoke your mind on the subject. I used this opportunity/post as a cathartic one. I knew there would be others that did not agree and accepted that.

Of course I respect your opinion as I do everyone else's here.

And I stated before somewhere in this OT, I try not to put down a show as the worst in anything until I see the whole thing. I know there is one more episode left, but this will be a hard sell for me to say the least.

Hi... I guess I'm part of the "tons of fans" that you mentioned... it might even be an understatement for me.. kk

Like jeankaycee said, although I feel quite sad and hurt (perhaps I should have heeded to your warning :) ), I respect your opinion.

I just wanted to say that I liked all the other versions as well, even though none of them were perfect. Somehow, the same also goes for PK. I love it even though the shortcomings are glaring. I understand why you said what you did about it being the worst since I have to admit that it has many flaws in its execution (although in my opinion, it's not as bad as the way you view it). However, although if failed to affect you, it really affected me and like JB said, it had soul, which more than makes up for its execution and shortcomings in my book, although I understand why that wouldn't apply to you.

If I had to use the ratings system JB uses, I think i would give a low score for the "objective quality" part but an extremely high one for the enjoyment part.
I guess it all comes down to personal taste and views and that we just need to agree to disagree.

Just wanted to have my say in this as well. And like jeankaycee said, thank you for watching PK, and for sticking with it til the end so that you would be able to make a fair(er) judgement (than if you didn't).

@diadda

i think v and i agreed that we are not here to convince people to like it, we are here because wanted to say our piece regarding PK and how we love it.

and besides we do accept that people have different drama taste to begin with.

and even though we differ in opinion im glad that we are so open about it but respectful at the same time.

again thank you!

I think that I like PK because it widened my tolerance for silly. I really like the colors palette used in it, which I don't think that every drama does well. I also really like the cuteness... and I like the character flaws.

I haven't been able to sit through the Taiwanese version, because I end up wanting to murder Ariel after watching her for only a few minutes. I haven't watched the Japanese version at all, and I haven't read the manga. After this show, I kind of don't want to go back and watch the other versions, either.

I understand why you would have such problems with it as it was your favorite story.

I LUBS YOU!!!

I guess I'll just go out and play on the freeway now. This is going to take forever to redo! I hate when I do stupid things! :(

Now to start packing for the Vacation, see you all later tonight.
