So my parents have been getting into kdramas this past year and I have a sneaky suspicion that my mom may be developing a taste for makjang. I think worse than watching a makjang drama is hearing it play in the other room. When watching a makjang or a drama with a lot of makjang elements, you know why the characters screaming and crying (or at least you think you do). But when you're just listening to it, you have no clue...so it's like endless, random crying (done to dramatic music) in a vacuum.

Hahaha! So funny! When I watched kdrama DVDs in the den (I watch on my laptop now), the only time my mom watched with me was when a makjang was on. She remembers Winter Sonata and Stairway to Heaven.

Happy Friday everyone!
It seems that I can only echo what everyone else is raving about: Sunny Happiness!!!! It now has me trying to actually sit through more than one ep of more Tw-d. I started Love Buffet before SH and its crazy but adorable somehow. I have dl one ep of Why Why Love, though I read the ending is disappointing and Black and White, which seems more my speed. Its actually a drama I've meant to watch for a bit now so its great to finally get started on that.
I just finished Athena and I haven't been on OT in awhile so I was wondering what others thought about the overall project. I know I alot of people I respect hated it, but I liked it initially, with its crazy and all, however, from ep 11-20 it was the biggest disappointment of 2011!
Also, I'm looking for a Song Seung Heon/So Ji Sub drama Law Firm. I'm not sure if perhaps it has a different title or what but I haven't found it in the regular places. Let me preface and say, I haven't "looked" too hard, just checked here and there and didn't see it so I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen it or knows where I can?
And I just want to shout out 49Days! I'm so excited for this drama, I wouldn't mind if Sign ended early! Though I'm watching that too and enjoying it, for the most part, but I haven't anticipated a drama as much as 49Days in a very, very, very, long time!
Have a great weekend everyone! And thank you for making drama watching that much more enjoyable!
Oh and does anyone know where I can find the lakorn Silamanee dl links with E-subs? I've found it streaming and raw dl, but I'd love some soft or hard subs. Thanks again!

I know I promised someone an update on Extravagant Challenge aka the TW-drama Skip Beat adaptation, if and when there was an update on the status.
Well, TW newspapers reported that it's for sure a go, with Ivy Chen (stepping in for Ariel Lin) as Kyoko, Super Junior's Siwon as Ren and Donghae as Sho.
http://udn.com/NEWS/ENTERTAINMENT/ENT7/6188744.shtml
I've got a post up at my wordpress about it, so I won't repeat here. But supposedly it'll start shooting in April.
Fingers-crossed. I think Ivy can do bi-polar, sweet as can me or frighteningly intense. One need look no further than her Chen Ling turn in Black & White. I don't think Siwon has the chops to do Ren, and I always thought he'd be the perfect Sho.

What the.............................
Why did they randomly choose to put in Korean actors? It seems a little out of nowhere, not that I mind because I do like Siwon.
Huh. Interesting... I guess?

wait, siwon as REN? Hmm...I thought he would have been Sho instead? Haven't seen Ivy or Donghea before so no comment, but I hope siwon's improved since ohmylady days. He was alright there, but not the best, and if he's gonna get dubbed then if he's lacking it will be even more ovb. why couldnt he be sho instead and someone like vic zhao be ren?

Hello it's OT time again.
Everyone--okay not everyone's in a vacumn post Dh/MP.I am taking a break from current airing dramas and will watch ep 15/16 only for Midas/Thorn Birds.
Freedom!! I can now watch KD.I am starting Delightful Girl Chun Hyang finally-after the recap here recently.I went to watch ep 16 of 9 in and 2 outs after yesterdays' recaps.Wow what a drama.I am wondering if I want to download the whole series now.
However it's fantastic because I don't usually have the time to watch some Korean movies.I never knew it's so much better than most KD.
Kiss Me.Kill Me was hilarious.I don't know if it's mean to be funny but it's good.
Anyway happy weekend.I have to mug for my Korean on Monday-numbers.Eeeks.

Guns and Talks; Speedy Scandal; Secret Reunion; Woochi.
I'd pimp my blog, but I only just started it, so it's not that exciting, but mostly it's been movie reviews.

Love Love Love Speed Scandal & Secret Reunion. I'll have to check out Guns and Talks & Woochi.
I saw Beck; Norwegian Wood; Villian and Widow. Mizushima Hiro has such a good command of the English language, but the stuff they make him say D:
also: They really love them some Red hot Chili Peppers in Japan. But I know Beck Hansen songs wouldn't suit Beck the Movie.

TGIF!!
Today was a good day!! I aced my test (literally), which I haven't been able to do for a while. It's what college does to you. You doubt your test-taking skills.
In other news, I've just been desperately trying to find stuff to watch post My Princess. It's sorta sad. But not really because I finished Liar Game season 1 in two days (not good for my studying, but considering how well I did on the test, I can forgive myself LOL). I kept meaning to watch it but never got around it and now the lack of great dramas droll has rolled around so I finally started watching it.
I LOVE THAT SHOW!! Even though it's not as intense as other Jdramas I've seen, I really, really like it. And it brings and interesting human nature argument to the table. Plus, I love you, Matsuda Shota. And Erika Toda. Although Nao is so frustrating. Seriously, Shinichi needs to get her out of deep shit EVERY TIME. But I think the show requires Nao to be so frustratingly naive the entire time to prove a point. Although it's just really frustrating to watch, though.
SIGH. Watched Midas. I have little sympathy for Jang Hyuk's character. I just want to see Lee Minjung and No Minwoo get together -is this a crime? So yeah. Am watching New Tales of Gisaeng. Slow-moving, but nice eye candy and I'm just impatiently waiting for the plot to move forward. Started watching Thorn Birds. First episode..... my thoughts were, gosh, how many children abandoned by their mothers and raised by people that aren't their mothers are there in this drama? And judging from the synopsis, even more!
SSH and KTH, I miss you guys............ :(

I liked liar game. I watched it solely for Matsuda Shota, who I feel hard for after watching Hana Yori Dango (Soujiro was my favourite F4 member), but I ended up enjoying it. Except when Nao was being so frustratingly naive.
Congrats on your test!
Also, I'm with you on Colin Firth. He will always be Mr. Darcy to me. I've watched the BBC P&P so many time I can recite lines from it.

Yeah, too bad Nao being frustratingly naive is supposed to be, well, part of it.
Omg tell me about it, I have seen BBC's P&P so many times it's been ridiculous.
You know what another favorite BBC production is? North and South. It's like P&P except set in a later time period and Richard Armitage's Mr. Thornton is AMAZING. If you love P&P, you will definitely love North & South.

Okay watching season 2 of Liar Game.
Compared to 2nd female lead bitch syndrome, Katsuragi is seriously a bitch I would want to rip up in real life. Plus she is so Willy Wonka-ish in a REALLY CREEPY WAY. Her smile is totally creepy and her eyes, shudder.
I would rather have to face Yoonjoo, Inheebot, all bitchy 2nd female leads together than have to face Katsuragi. Oh my god she is psychotic. Seriously.

i am now currently updated with Paradise ranch! yayy! :) goodie goodie! :) i cant wait for the next episode. i hope jinyoung and dongjoo separate... soon. but i think the dad of jinyoung would approve of dongjoo... rawr. because if he won't the story would be so easy and bland...
anyway... he might disapprove and another conflict for daji and dongjoo might arise which is like what i really would want since there are no more second leads interfering.. and besides i like jinyoung and i would hate it if the writers make me hate her to the point of making myself feel of not be able to redeem her.
atleast ahjussi made some sense and backed out even though it was heartbreaking... atleast he didn't made daji wait... because he's gonna be the most selfish person in this drama if he did that. i think his wife already left... darn. i would really love it if he wont make some moves on daji anymore. hahaha!
all in all... after ending my princess and dream high... good thing there's paradise ranch... a drama-comedy that i can look forward since all the dramas that are now popping are all tearjerkers. awh.
but still royal family and crime squad excites me so im still looking forward for these dramas! :) Midas too! :) lee min jung unnie! :)

I'm seriously not interested in any drama right now. So I'm just going to rant on about my love for variety and talk show programs^^
so out of boredom because there has been nothing to watch since the end of Secret Garden I started watching old episodes of variety shows like Running Man (Joongki is so cute!!) I especially loved the Siwon and Kim Min Jong episode^^ It was hilarious all of the special effects and the song from his time as part of the duo The Blue that always played when Min Jong was searching for the running hiding team was hilarious^^
I'm also watching episodes of Dream Team it's fun and Danny Ahn makes me crack up as well as SHInee's Minho war against Suju's Eunhyuk for the Ace spot in the Dream Team, Hyukie is hilarious he's good but he always loses at the critical moment and Minho always beats him, he's like a sports robot...
Strong Heart is amazing and though I've yet to see it complete (I've only found subs for bits and pieces) I loved the last episode with Suju's Henry Lau... lol his first impression "they're all GAY" completely cracked me up... lol and his thinking that Heechul was a transvestite because he was too pretty was very hilarious... Henry is such a cutie pie and Seung Gi is too adorable... "Body language is the universal language" hahaha...
As an ELF I also stay up to date on Suju's Foresight - it's fun and the Suju boys such dorks they don't really bother with their idol image and end up doing such silly retarded things that you can't help but enjoy it. They've always been like that ever since their first shows like EHB and Full House, and Adonis Camp and stuff like that, they're full of the ridiculous cute which is why I can't help but really enjoy their activities.
I love Korean variety shows^^ the actors, comedians and idols all seem more like real people with random weird quirks than the aloof Hollywood actors.... at least that's what I feel...

I've been watching more variety and reality korean programs than dramas for over a year. You've got to watch Running Man with DBSK as guests. It's the one episode that I have laughed and enjoyed the most.
Seems like you're a little behind on Dream Team. Eunhyuk left almost a year ago and Minho is also gone, but ocassionally guest stars.
I'm also following Super Junior's Foresight. seems like the boys care very little about image and are game for embarrasing moments.

yep I'm quite aware that I'm way behind on Dream Team:) But I just started watching it like about a month ago so I just watch whatever episodes I can find with subs^__^ They're fun regardless ^_^ Before I couldn't find where to watch them with subs so it's progress...lol
I did watch the Running Man ep with DBSK OMG Yunho was incredible he beat the Commander Kim Jong Kook, he's so fast! I loved that the theme was phantom of the opera and Changmin was pretty awesome at finding two running man balls by himself before getting caught^^

My favourites? I love so many. The only requirement that they have to have is a happy ending. But in retrospect I think besides the happy ending I do care a lot about the process (the storyline).
For the korean dramas just to name a few which I watch more than three times:
- Coffee House (my most favourite drama)
- Get Karl! Oh Su Jung (just love it)
- Fantasy Couple (also just love it) *in a whisper* I have a thing for Oh Ji Hoo
- Bethoven Virus
- Attic Cat
- Great Lawyers of Korea
- The Last Scandal of My Life
- What's up Fox
- Dalja's Spring
- My Girl
- Lovers in Paris
- Sassy Girl Chun Yang
- Love Needs Miracle
- Princess Hours
- Save the Last Dance for Me
- Full House
- 18 vs 29
- 9 End 2 Out
- Coffee Prince
- Thank You
- Witch Yoo Hee
- Jejoongwun (I consider it as the best of 2010)
For the saeguk:
- Potato Boy/The Ballad of Sodong
- Sungkyungwan Scandal
- Damo
For the Japanese dramas:
- Nodame Cantabile
- Hotaru no Hikari I,II
- Great Teacher Onizuka
- Zettai Kareshi
- Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
- Change
- Love Generation
- Hanakimi
- Nobuta wo Produce
- Hana Yori Dango
For the Taiwanese:
- Meteor Garden I (my favourite)
- Down with Love
- It Started with a Kiss I,II
- Why Why Love
- At Dolphin Bay
- Devil Beside You
- Mars
- Autumn's Concerto
For the wuxia:
- Mulan
- The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre
I'm rather anxious whether we have the similar taste. Hope it doesn't matter even if we doesn't ^-^

Last week Friday I listed a bunch of dramas and movies I had watched and liked. I can repost it with only the ones not listed here and see which ones you like. :-)

@clichique
It's 48 series starring Anita Yuen and Cow Wen Cuo .I love the Mulan here the most. And I just love the scenes when she outwitted her mother in law it was so funny.
Actually I also love The Shooting Condor Heroes but as I love Mulan and THSADS more I didn't mention it.
I presume you also love wuxia, I'd love to get some recommendation on the good ones ^-^.

@MJP
Yes we do seem to have similar taste don't we?
If you aren't really into sageuk and love humor most I don't think you should go for Jejoongwun. Perhaps Coffee House would be a good choice. It's hillarious. The second male lead is so....ah...I have no word to describe him ^-^
And yes, please repost!

Trust me, I watch WAY too much TV in general it's probably pretty bad. Not only do I watch J-, K-, TW-, C-dramas, I also watch tons of American TV, a la Gossip Girl, Modern Family, etc. etc.
It would be hard for me to pick favorites, though. And I feel like my memory is pretty incomplete because I might be forgetting some stuff I've watched earlier... Tough.

clichique,
Sorry to have to reply here to #65.1.1.1.1 clichique March 5th, 2011 at 9:58 am.
Just regarding Nodame Cantible that I cannot stress enough my favorite episode is #3, the heated blanket table. And Hotaru no Hikari, I just love that female character. Rolling around the floor, sleeping like a bum. She is hilarious!!!

Finally took a few days off work (seriously man, I've become fatigued, bone tired all o' dat). I'll spend my free time trawling through kdramaland.
OK... Kdramaland, here's what I have to say about you so far:
Thorn Birds: Not feelin' it. Not too bad but not drawn to it one bit. As much as I don't hate Joo Sang-wook, I think he's a decent actor and will always have a soft spot for all alumni of a certain 60-episode epic of last year; he just does nothing for me *hides from janna*. Suprisingly enough I felt Seo Do-yeong had more of an allure, I mean... Seo Do-yeong..? WTF is wrong with me!?
I will continue to tune in for a certain newcomer actress though, she's so full of promise. (wub!)
And who knows? Show may not be as introspective and touching as the Lee Kyung-hee melodramas I tend to cherish but it may follow in the same vein as the cracktastic Bad Love, and I loved Bad Love in a 'so ludicriously bad it's good' way. It was all kinds of emo and addictive. Otherwise... Ehhh!
Flames of Ambition:
Finally picked up where I left off at episode 3. And... I love it! I love the way this writer writes women, the kinds to leave a lasting impression.
And Shin Eun-kyung is just... Fabulous.
And in other news:
WTF with the new director for Gisaeng Tales..? How the f--k does that even make sense? How did directing ever change the ratings? I think the ratings are good considering it's up against two heavy hitters and I was appreciating it being a low-key affair. But like... Unless more money is poured into production costs to make it look prettier, it all rests on the writing.
I miss the former PD. :(
If episodes 11-12 were any indication, the new one is pretty lame.
Saengchori 18:
The one where Ji-min sunbae looks really sexy. Rawr!
I should have slapped a wager on the murder mystery... My suspicions may have been right all along. Tee hee!

Eeeeep! *hides*
It must be a testament to how well he played Min-woo. I kind of continued to hate the character in spite of everything... As much as he redeemed himself later and could be empathised with, there were traits that remained... Sorry, I don't think the actor will be able to shake that image off now. He's kind of stuck with it. Haha!

I think going to the Seoul's tower is a must after the so many scences we saw in our Kdrama where the leads are supposed to meet (this was in an older series).
The trip to the red palace (I forget the name but it's not far from the blue palace) is also a must (we see it in so many saeguks)
I went to those places in autumn and the views were beautiful.
Have a nice trip!

Oh my goodness, which kdrama was it where they kept trying to meet up there and kept missing each other? She was paid to pretend to be his cousin... At the last episode Jae Hee and the female from Delightful Girl... did a cameo role.

@pipit thanks for the headsup! I'm a bit reluctant about visiting Namsan Tower - it's not a romantic getaway with a boy and my girl friend and I will feel a bit silly haha but think I'm def going to the palaces. So excited!

Is anyone watching Fuyu no Sakura? Takashima Masanobu is so crazy it's almost comedic now. Anyways, Kwon Sang Woo will be in next weeks episode...probably for like two minutes (episode 8). Just letting any hardcore fans know.

Question: does anyone know where to download Sandglass raw, and, if possible, in one part/link?
I've been searching for a while now and have to come to a blank. Thanks if anyone can let me know!

Hi, I've been looking for it myself, google seems to bring up a soompi thread and I think it's high time I registered with soompi to find whether or not it'll have download links.
If you're interested in or liked Sandglass, I'd like to recommend a little (2-episode) vignette called Father's House (if you've not already seen it that is) as a companion piece with Sandglass, not just because Choi Min-soo happens to be in both, but just the general period drama feel (it's set in the 80s and 90s), has a Sandglass-esque score and is generally filled with heart, a social conscientiousness and is quite a moving tale.

ooh cheers for the father house links, supah :) I actually wanted to watch this because it has kim soo hyun in it, and I've avoided places like mysoju because of the so many parts.
ah yes, I've checked out soompi too. heads up: aparently you need 'HJSplit', because their links are like the first two parts of one episode and the episode after or something strange like that. And I'm not that tech-savvy to be able to split the episodes :(.

If you have split files then you're going to want to use the "join" button in HJ-Split, not the split button. Let me know if you need any help.

Hope you like it angelpur. The writing was kinda weaksauce in the second hour (you'll see what I mean when you see it) but overall it's winning. <3 Choi Min-soo. And yes, Kim Soo-hyun is as adorable as ever here, I loved the kid who played his kid version too: Park Chang-ik, so talented and a total cutie.
Cheers janna, I'll holler back when I get to that, I've no idea what be this HJsplit and will need that help.

Gisaeng Tales 13:
That's more like it, Damo! Less of the awkward, moar of the sexy. *swoooon*
Loved this episode and the cute Japanese kids! *squish*
14:
A whole episode of everyone eating in super-posh restaurants.
Smooth, Saran. Calling him Damonim as opposed to samonim.
Rara's reaction wasn't half as dramatic as expected... Still, bring on the girlfights!
This show promises all kinds of conflict, like really, really delicious conflict but it's just not happening.
Oh well... Sonja and Gong-joo FTW.
