Park Shin-hye radiates charm for Oh My Princess

A Hallyu star takes her fame overseas to Taiwan: Park Shin-hye, who shot up to fame with her 2009 drama You’re Beautiful, is filming her first Taiwanese drama titled Oh, My Princess. (To be honest, I’m getting so confused with all these princesses — My Princess, Princess’s Man and Oh, My Princess.  Anyone else having that problem?)

It seems as though our sweetheart Park Shin-hye has won over Taiwanese hearts, dressed in the Korean native dress known as Hanbok. Her new drama, which aired on December 2 in Taiwan, has also garnered quite a bit of attention in the homeland for the wave she’s causing in Taiwan with her starpower.

Park Shin-hye’s presence has caused blockages in Taiwan’s streets with hopeful fans trying to catch a glimpse of her.  To appease the crowds, the show creators dressed Park in hanbok to be seen by the fans. Fans who weren’t able to catch a sight of her in person can watch her onscreen when her hanbok scene appears in episode 14.

Park’s co-star is popular Taiwanese idol star George Hu, whom she describes as a “very gentle and good man.”  She goes on to say that at first, the language barrier was a little difficult to get past, but communication is starting to get easier with each day.  Park also mentions that her co-star’s charm and warm personality can be seen through his character of the drama.

George Hu plays a butler to a rich heiress, played by Park Shin-hye, who’s constantly at risk of being kidnapped or hurt by goons after her money.  I really hope that she’s not another version of Yoon Eun-hye in My Fair Lady.  I just could not for the life of me get past her playing a spoiled chaebol.  I’ll take the poor, loudmouthed Go Eun-chan (Coffee Prince) over that any day. So please, Park Shin Hye…more Go Mi-nam, and not haughty princess.  Alrighty?

If I remember correctly, this is the manga-to-drama of Hayate the Combat Butler.

This should be a bit more funnier (plotwise) than MFL. Hopefully!

Oh my princess! is the korean name of the taiwanese drama "Hayate the Combat Butler" that Shin Hye filmed last year and It was aired in Taiwan I think between july and august this year. Now, the korean cable channel "Drama Cube" programmed "Hayate" with the name "Oh my princess", and this drama is on air since december 2th in Korea....

I saw that series and OMG it was so cheesy! I love both of the leads but Taiwanese series seems to always have this manga feel to them.

She was cute in there. That's all i can say. If you have nothing to do then i'll recommend watching it but it is something i would call good.

Um, I watched Hayate the combat butler and I dont remember her wearing a Hanbok in ANY of the episodes (okay, for those of you have already watched the drama, correct me if I'm wrong).

But this series is based on a famous Japanese Manga written by Kenjiro Hata in 2004 so this is at least 5 years before yoon eun hye's My fair Lady was aired on tv, so its similar but no copy cat.

Is this airing in Korea now? I agree with the other here that this has been out and completed.. I guess now they are trying to bring the drama to other countries with a different title.

I still don't get it.
Is this like a BOF thing where it's the same story, but different countrys shoot their own version?
I know that the Combat Butler (horrible) drama ended a few months ago, so now this is a do-over? With Hanbok added?

My head hurts.

I was confused at first, but thanks for the clarification that oh my princess and hayate are the same drama. It's nice to know that it's airing in Korea as well.

I saw the first episode and I really think that Shin-Hye did a great job.. her character is far from YEH's My fair lady. Will continue watching it when i find the time :D

Yes, the hanbok scene was shown...it was that time when she was trying to earn her own keep..ke ke ke..(she was handing out some flyers)

and the latest i've heard is that it's now being shown in Korea...
and my new question now is: will we finally hear ShinHye's beautiful voice in korean and George Hu and the rest of the cast will then be dubbed in korean???
it'll be kind of odd, if SH's voice will be dubbed in Korean, right?

Oh! I would also recommend:

Love Contract: Wonderful acting, story, and characterization. The ending was strange, but that didn't detract from the show, IMO.

ToGetHer: Short and simple and so sweet. It was really the first time I didn't find Rainie Yang to be too cutesy or annoying. She was great in it!

Hmmm isn't this Hayate? I'm a George Hu stan so I know this finished airing taping awhile ago. I didn't watch, not being a Hayate manga/anime fan, but wished the project luck.

yep...kinda confusing..because there's a PSH (Park Shi Hoo) in The Princess' Man....but it's one of the most memorable drama of the year, so I can still differentiate. Nice to see young korean actor/actress branching out though!! From the looks of it, at least she will be playing a korean character.

And here I was about to flip over when I saw the news but then it hit me.. this news is a few months late already. blah. I love Shinhye but sad to say I had to ditch Hayate simply because i cant get pass the story and her dubbed voice. She did pretty well in really trying to cope up with the dubbing but it was just way to artificial for me. Rewatched Youre Beautiful instead.

It's interesting that we are always groaning about spoiled chaebol guys, and then when it's a girl, it's still annoying. I could barely get past the first episode of My Fair Lady.

I miight try Hayate, but Taiwanese dramas are generally too cartoony for me. I haven't been able to finish one yet.

Dubbing can either make or break a show. If it's well done, and the voices are well chosen to suit the characters, the dubbing is actually hardly noticeable at all. I watched Mischievous Princess starring Jang Nara, and I'm not sure whether her voice was dubbed or not, but it sounded remarkably similar to her real voice. I liked that show very very much. Similarly I watched Jewel of the Palace in its dubbed Chinese version, and the dubbing voices were amazing; the lead actress's dubbed voice was sweet and girlish and strong, all at once; it was so natural that when I watched the actual Korean version with her real voice, I actually found that I liked the dubbed one better! I also watched Winter Sonata with Bae Yong Jun's voice dubbed in Chinese. The dubbed voice was soft, frail and dreamy; it suited the show, giving it a whimsical kind of feel. Years later, I watched the Korean version with Bae Yong Jun's voice, and was surprised at how deep and strong his voice sounded. Then there was Princess Hours where the Prince's dubbed voice was weedy and weak, in contrast to his real voice which was firm and deep and strong. That weak weedy voice gave me an impression that the Prince was kind of weak and reedy throughout the show. Reading these comments about the awful dubbed voice in Hayate makes me worry about Skip Beat.....I watched the anime, and enjoyed it, just hope Siwon's dubbed voice won't affect the show. What if Ren's voice comes out in a squealy squeak, despite that hot manly exterior? Sigh. Why couldn't it have been a Korean production?

Yes a good voice actress not only is saying the words she still also has to 'act' thus the title of voice actress! The lady that did Jang Nara in bratty princess is called Huang Yiqing she very well know indeed, though due to illness sadly no longer working.

This is all so true. This is why I've been turned off from English dubs for foreign films or animations. It's amazing how different a character will feel depending upon the voice acting.

I'll take subtitles or dubbing any day.

I saw this drama. The Taiwanese version of the manga Hayate the Combat Butler. It doesn't follow the manga but Shin-Hye is sooo cute! it does have a manga feel to it. Usually the Taiwanese version is usually loyal to the manga version like in Mars and Hana Kimi but not this time. This drama is ok but not as great as the actual manga.

Shin hye's dubbed voice is not bad. But if you're too familiar with her voice then its obvious and irritating. As for chemistry, gh likes her on and off screen. He said so. As for go mi nam, he likes hwang tae kyung.

Hayate the Combat Butler no worse than most Taiwanese tv shows they all very cartoonist like and of course this one is straight from a manga anyway. I do have to agree I found it very hard to like, though I may give it another try at some time. Park Shin-hye really really! need to learn new ways of 'cute' pouting, she used the same one for five years now lol.
In drama where you speaking another language, body language and facial expressions are a big part of acting, she could do well to learn from the likes of Jang Nara, who can act in a five minute scene and never say a word but you know just what she is expressing.

Sounds like a typical taiwanese drama... Don't think I'll watch this. Taiwanese dramas are always waaaaaaay too cheesy for me... They all have this manga feel to them, which although may make fun mindless reading (sometimes), really doesn't translate that well on screen. Makes me want throw something at the lead actors... Also, I'm sure park shinhye is good, but generally speaking, I find the quality of acting in taiwanese dramas wanting.

indeed Taiwanese and Chinese dramas in general seem to = dumb with cute the dumber the girl the more cute she suppose to be. They certainly have issues with strong female characters anyway as 98% of them always end up making the revelation that being successful and independent only make them unhappy and they throw it all away to be ..well 'bare foot and pregnant' but of course happy ...
lol just goes to show all chairman Mao effects to make the Chinese sexless and classless didn't even really scratch the surface of 2000 years of tradition.

I know this comment is almost a year old but I wanted to clarify:

Most of these exaggerated dramas are based on Japanese mangas, so it's more of a reflection of Japanese culture than Chinese.

If you watch original Chinese dramas, they have no problems with strong, independent women.

Why do they have to change the title? this is Hayate the Combat Butler and they should have just retained the drama title.

I can't understand why when a drama or a movie is shown in another country they change the title and the names of the character.

Oh well...anyway - this drama is funny and Shin Hye is always cute (but now she is amazingly hot when she did the opening dance number at Melon music award...I am wondering when did cute Go Mi Nam has grown into a hot woman).

I read somewhere that the producers are planning on Hayate Combat Butler 2, but Shin Hye has confirmed that she'll not be in it....(unless the news is erroneous)..
