Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

more "banter" type of reviews...to tide us over until the next podcast and even after that

be "more mobile phone browsing" friendly...or you could give me that galaxy tab to save you time and energy adjusting the site which is awesome just the way it is :D

happy 5th!

Recommendations! Sometimes I finish a drama and am in such a fancy over it, that I would love to watch something similar - same genre or just the same "feeling". ;)
But it's pretty tough to find recommendations that are not based on statements such as "both are soo cute" or "they are both my favourite dramas evaaa".
So my suggestion is to simply put other drama recommendations beneath a review or when the whole drama is finished.

Happy Anniversary and may it be another five year! :)

This is a really good website, so i don't really think that it needs any improvement :)
I love how the recaps are so fast, and I love the humour you put in them :D

I like how the recaps are really fast. One thing that I would like to see is that in your pod-casts, you should explain some of the references because i don't watch all of them.

I would LOVE more movie reviews, especially since I get most of my recommendations of what to watch from dramabeans, so my movie selection is sadly lacking :)

Hi!! Kang-ahh!!
First of all Thanks for fantastic caps and comments. Now I don't consider a drama watched until I read your caps ^^ And because I'm trusting your tastes I know which dramas to watch first. I'm having a quality time of dramas lately mostly because of you girls . THANKS!!
I want to see a place that dramabeans lovers can talk and spazz freely like a chat box. That would be awesome.

I love your podcasts, so I think it might be pretty cool if you guys could do a live chat where readers could ask you questions. If you guys have ever wanted to raise money for charity through Dramabeans, sometimes people do long live chats where people can donate and it all goes to charity.

Some more movie and variety show recaps would also be nice. I like to read the variety show recaps when I don't have the time to watch them (or can't find them subbed). I also love your pop culture & commentary posts.

I'd also like to see a master list of your ultimate drama picks (doesn't matter how old). And finally, more pictures of chocolate abs ^^

i agree with them...it will be great if you also have movie reviews.

i think it will also be nice if you have the portion (which might be in the comment section) for "if you were the director or screenwriter..what could you have done to make the story or scene better" 'coz lets face it not all of the dramas were properly executed. There might be scenes that you think should've been omitted or the director should have added something to spice up the story...

or you can create a poll of what your readers think of a certain drama, the actors,etc.---if it is a thumbs up or down

just to add on my comment..

would also love to see helpful links for drama OSTs or where we can watch it online 'coz sometimes it is hard to find a link

or word of the day...i remember reading some helpful korean words that you posted on your site...i really enjoyed reading them and i learned a lot from it..

you can also have "quotable quotes" from the characters of the dramas...

Btw, kudos to both of you! thank you for all the drama recaps..i know this is super hard to do 'coz you have other things on your hand but you still took time to do the recaps. you did a wonderful job and you guys are amazing!

more movie reviews please!!

also, i loved the pop culture and glossary posts! i'm korean so a lot of the cultural meanings and references are kind of innate for me but i still found those posts very interesting and informative. it'd be nice if we could see more of those this year (you know, given you guys' availability since you guys are already so busy.)!

but really, i'm happy with how it is now. the time and effort you guys put in to keep this site flourishing is just amazing. so THANK YOU!!! :)

Happy Birthday DB :)

me thinks posts gushing on your favourite actor/actress would be awesome!

then we could have a galore of their best drama/comedic/intense moments (abs!), fab/flob hairstyle, outfit, script lines, epic comments from their interviews, their best facial feature (picture galore!) etc & of course, w dramabean writers' crackastic comments/jabs. :)

OR

creating a storyline / conversation/screen cap face-off between epic characters from different drama.

happy 5th anniversary once again!

I would love to see couples in dramas (movies, series) along with the recaps. Polls of "The Couples of the Month". That is 12 couples a year, more shows to love. Reminiscent of cute moments and story lines.

Overall, I really can't complain about this site - I really love reading all the articles and recaps.

One thing maybe would be seeing more things about the actors/actresses and what's going on with them. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean a gossip column, "So and so did this over the weekend! Possibility that she is pregnant with his baby! /gasp." That can be left for the dramas.

I would like to see more of the end-of-the-year like summaries, but for midyear...if that makes any sense. I have always enjoyed reading those ratings and summaries cuz it compares and contrasts the different dramas.
That makes it easier for me to choose whether or not to watch a certain drama. =]

I really enjoyed reading your views on penny pinching romance. I know you wont always have the time but itd be cool to see some more general reviews on movies you girls are interested in. This is mostly because after reading your recaps I know we have the same taste in shows so your review always makes it easier for indecisive me to decide on a show.

As much I love and appreciate the very detailed recaps - I often crave for shorter recaps - even summaries of dramas/ movies (especially if I'm busy or don't want to spend too much time reading away). I'm sure that if the summary recap of the episode intrigues me, I'll be reading the post or watching the drama in no time! Thanks

Or I'd be interested in participating in a survey app (which I'm sure you've seen before like Jewelmint) that personalizes which dramas/ movies would best fit my interests...that'd be neat. Sometimes I don't realize what I'm missing out on, so another perspective of what I might be potentially interested in would be awesome!

I've commented about this on one of the year end reviews already, but I really want you guys to have a year-end review on variety shows. Maybe this request is too far-fetched. At least add a variety section to the polls at the end of the year. I've recently started to watch varieties (Running Man) and would love to hear your/viewers thoughts.

Congrats on 5 years! I've only been following for 4, so I was a little late in the game, but I quickly fell in love with the witty humor and intelligent commentary!

So... this would be a lot of work, and thus I can't imagine you actually doing it, but it'd be great to have an actor directory that is also divided into an A-D list.

The main reason I'm asking for this is because I rememeber a comment javabeans made a while back. She stated that she'd get annoyed that so many people knew and raved about X (mediocre flower-boy), while they didn't know Y (A-list actor with lot's of recognition in Korea). Sorry I don't remember who exactly was mentioned in the comment. I just remember wondering how she expected the foreign online community to know Y when most of the attention is given to fluff-romcoms online. Even the online outlets that DO talk about more serious films/work often are fairly new websites, and thus are talking about current films. It's difficult to know what reputations actors have unless (1) you live in Korea/speak Korean or (2)have been following kdrama/film for a LOOOONG time.

I want to know, really I do! I just have now way of knowing! Please educate me!

And also, I just happen to have trouble sometimes remembering who's who. ;)

I would love to see more old drama recaps. You guys tend to do new dramas that come out week after week, but I don't like waiting for those dramas to air every week. I'd prefer to have episodes already aired and then read your comments afterwards.

It's been almost 4 years now since I first came to this blog. I think the new changes are great, but I would love to see more new articles coming out about actors who I don't hear a lot about. I think we should also have a new section for actor profiling! That would be so cool~

We usually don't hear a lot about child actors, so it would be great if we can read more about them here at Dramabeans too!

Oh one last thing~please consider bringing back the music recommendation/selection section! =)

You guys do such a blatantly amazing job as such! how could I possibly impose more?;)

I just really wanted to insert some compliments here--I know I need to get to the point lol. Feel free to skip them & just read my dang answer "OTL

-The drama recaps on here are AMAZING. I know that if I just want "another person opinion" (cuz I don't have real people's opinion on this jazzD: ) then I can scroll to the bottom of a recap. & Every recap is consistent with details, screen shots & posting... seriously it wasn;t until I ventured beyond your guys website until I discovered the sheer amazing-ness of this simple stuff.

-I just love the banner. LOVE LOVE LOVE how it spews out amazing eye-candy for me... i still used/loved your website before you added that in.. but DANG.

-- Sheer quantity. Omg. Quality & quantity? any kdrama fanatic is obviously missing out if they don't use your site...

MY ACTUAL ANSWER
-- I know you guys concentrate & revolve around korean... but sometimes I really wish I could find TW things in here. So this suggestion might be out of whack but if you watch Taiwanese dramas then posts about your overall impressions or such... would be amazing:)

--Or... commentary on kpop groups. I understand--it's a drama blog! I need to get over it...lol. But I would LOVE posts about what you thought about this or that MV :]

my suggestions. thanks again hons!!

Golly gosh, I must have read at least 5 pages or so of comments and I think that everyone's wishes of what everyone would like to see on Dramabeans has been covered.

Hopefully this hasn't been mentioned in the other 20 or so pages I hadn't covered...I want to see Dramabeans doing what it's been doing. You guys are the definition of awesome! Possibly give a guiding light to those who want to know what variety shows to watch. Stay true to what Dramabeans is all about: dramas/movies. I'm not sure how many sites started covering kpop and idols.

Bring on another year of dramas, recaps, variety shows, roulettes, drunken podcasts (if possible) and late nights!

Cheers for the epic 5 years it has already been and for lots more to come :) Rock on, Dramabeans!

What to suggest for a practically perfect site that helps feed my drama addiction?! :p
I would love to see more movie recaps (either by you lovely ladies or one of your fabulous guest bloggers!) or even just recommendations of your favourites...perhaps in a "drama ratings" style list? I've found so many amazing dramas through your recaps and am completely lost when it comes to Korean films!
Thanks again for this wonderful site and Happy Birthday! :D

hello dramabeans! as awesome and psychedelic as this site is, really it's one of the best blogs scratch that - Website on the net, not only are you purrrdy and practical the content and quality of posts and writings are TOP stuff! (totes not sucking up btw ;p) and just because the giveaway calls for it; I want to see on dramabeans a forum type avenue where we (readers) are able to share thoughts and comments on dramas, kind of like Open thread but something more fixed (daily?) instead of weekly Fridays, I always miss open thread because it comes on my Saturday >.< . Would also totes like to get to know the fellow DB readers also! I love the comments and conversations that happen there but sometimes it's hard to keep track and the need to backtrack for me, can be tedious :).

If you grant me any more podcasts (they send me to the floor laughing), kpop (please unleash the snark on idols) or drama recaps (there just can't be too many of those) I might possibly never unglue myself from the screen. Do you want that on your conscience?^^
What do think about a feature that covers typical drama themes, plot devices, characters, tropes etc.? Sometimes when watching a drama it strikes me how similar Korean dramas really are. We see the same stories unfold before our eyes, see the same characters deal with similar problems. Yet it doesn't get boring because it's told differently enough each time to keep us coming back for more, right? I like that familiarity in kdramas and would love to see you analyse typical drama "ingredients". One segment might be about types of ex-girlfriends in kdramas, or best "evil bitch" characters. Maybe your favorite types of conflicts, best kisses/hugs, dramas with best set ups and pay offs(and how that works anyway) or one solely about the role and use of alcohol in kdramas. You are walking encyclopaedias and it would be great if you shared your kdrama knowledge this way.

Recipes for the favorite dishes on kdramas :D
Ah! and Korean language classes!!! (with videos)

Maybe for Korean tourists, it would be nice to showcase a few areas that Korean dramas are always filmed so in case tourists want to visit there, they can do so. Like the Han River is always a frequent place where Kdramas are filmed :)

I love Dramabeans and there actually isn't anything I'd like to change.

Maybe more drama recaps? I know you guys are busy with recapping so many dramas but there are some oldies (like Full House, Goong) just like you did with Kim Sam Soon or maybe even some more recent dramas which I'd love to see recapped (Protect The Boss).
And more movie recaps :>>

Or what I was thinking about - just like you do with the glossary right now, I was thinking it might be kind of nice to have you explaining something about Korean culture once a week or once in the two weeks? Since a lot of us aren't Korean and a lot of things in dramas can be quite confusing when you're just a beginner. Now, I think I understand the Korean culture quite well since I'm an Asian myself and I've been watching dramas, variety shows and the whole idol culture for quite some time already but there are a lot of people out there who have a harder time understanding the Korean culture.
