Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

Winner announced: Sunday, January 29, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

Like many others, I would love more movie recaps. Your recaps are so awesome! They can actually make me watch some dramas that I didn't have any intentions on watching at first.:D

Also, I hope you can do comparisons for some dramas that are remakes of a manga or another drama (if you read the manga or watched both original and remake). E.g. Compare Hana Yori Dango V.S Boys Over Flowers. They may not exactly the same but I think it will be cool to compare to see the differences and similarities.

Anyway, HAPPY 5 YEARS! You all have been fantastic! Keep up the GREAT work and may Dramabeans be as awesome as ever!!!

I would love to see more movie reviews but also maybe a sort of monthly chart of what movies are released at the korean box office and which are the popular ones. I would love to get more into korean movies but don't have as much access or information about them.

It would also be great to have a korean culture section to your website. I know you've done a few posts already on that and they have been so interesting and insightful its made me crave to know more. More about society, the norms, korean traditions and culture and how culture is reflected in the language etc. Basically anything that would be helpful for anyone who wished to visit Korea and wanted to get a heads up on what to expect.

Honestly, there isn't much that you could do to be more perfect. I was thinking of movie reviews and then today, we got one! :)
More podcasts, obviously, because there are awesome.
I really liked your posts on korean culture, maybe more of that?
And a little bit more of fangirl attitude?^^
Thanks again.

Would love it it you did more write-ups on the cultural aspects of dramas. I really enjoyed the extended glossary and pop-culture articles. A better understanding of these 'cultural' issues definitely increased my level of enjoyment of dramas.

Weekly, what are you listening to.

Instead of one given song on a open thread post, it would be nice to see what you girls listen to.

Well, that is that.

I already love dramabeans as it is because mostly every post I love!!! It'd be cool if you'd put up more music because the music you choose for the beginning of the episode recap, I usually love!!!! So I hope to see maybe like a dramabeans playlist one day.

But this site is already perfect as it is, why change anything!?

Oh my, what else should we see in Dramabeans?

--actor/actresses profiles and their stories (well, I know you have some stories to tell why you (dis)like them right?
--more movie reviews. these will actually add variety and color to the site.

--YOU GUYS! Like video blog/video casts. Who wouldn't want to see these two great K-drama bloggers? I mean all of you here made the distance of K-dramalandia shorter and narrower for us to reach. I guess 2012 is the perfect time to unmask the persona(s) behind all these.

I love this site! I would like more drama recaps but I know there's just too many to recap everything, but the recap you did with the ojakgyo brothers that was a good way to recap dramas that you don't have time for. Thank You!! Happy Five Years!

All I wanna see this 2012 in Dramabeans?

My long time crushes, JAVABEANS and GIRLFRIDAY.

I wanna see them so badly. Really.

Oh well, maybe I'm crazy to request this, but I think it's not a bad idea to have their very first appearance on this site.

It's not like I'm the only one who'll be happy but a lot of people would be the same too.

Oh! And more movie recaps and maybe weekly music suggestions too of Korean music as well as any other songs that are on your mind! We love you guys a dramabeans so much!!!

For 2012, I would love to see more movie reviews. I feel like it's sometimes harder to hear reviews on movies and since there are so many of them, sometimes I don't even know about the good ones.

I would also like to see more reviews on family dramas. I know they are a lot longer, but I was really happy to see the section on Ojakgyo Brothers. Maybe a half time report for family drama would be even great.

I love this site so much! Thank you Javabeans, Girlfriday, and all the other fantastic writers for giving us such a fun, informative site about Korean dramas. :)

As for what I think would be cool for this year, it'd be awesome if there were more podcasts. At work I can listen to my mp3 player and having your podcasts running makes the time go by so much faster. You two are hilarious and I enjoy listening to your opinions about old and new dramas alike.

i would love to see more Korean traditions explained also more of why there are certain plot stories in kdramas. Like if someone's parents did something bad to another person's parent yet that still can't be together because they carry their parent's burden with them. Things of that nature I would really like to see.

ooo Thanks for the anniversary giveaways! These are awesome. I love your recaps of the most popular dramas. Some things I would like to see more of from DB are the 2 following. It would be nice to see more of the interviews of the popular actors and actresses. This gives fans more of an understanding of the real personality of the actors and actresses rather than their on-screen portrayals of characters. As well, having more film reviews is nice too. Some news or gossip about actors and actresses are really captivating as well. Thanks for all your hard work DB!

Hello, this is actually my first post, but I've come to this site for years, I randomly stumbled upon this post and thought i would try to enter for this giveaway and try my luck hehe.... I like all the drama recaps, but I think if there could be more feedback about kpop as well as the dramas and movies that would be great too. Along with any segment or more information about the actors as well. I don't know if this is really anywhere on this site, but i know yesasia is a huge site that does the merchandise for dvds/osts/etc. for the asiana dramas, but maybe something that dramabeans would want to link to or have a channel to as well? Thank your for your posts and info, it's always nice to keep up to date with the latest kdrama!

Honestly, what I want to see on Dramabeans in 2012 is exactly what you've been giving us for the past five years. Going back to look at your earlier recaps, I find it funny how your writing styles have changed - or stayed the same - and looking back on all of the series you've recapped. Now that the movies reviews are getting into gear, it's accurate to say that you successfully feed my kdrama addiction: whenever I don't have an hour to spare to watch a full episode but have been dying to know what's happened, Dramabeans is the place to go. Plus, you always deliver your reviews with humour and a fresh look. Sometimes reading your comments on various scenes make me laugh harder than the drama did. (: Not to mention, your "drama ratings" page has come in verrry handy when I'm trying to decide what to start next.

For someone relatively new to the obsession that is known as kdramas, I basically have you both to thank for that (not to mention all of your amazing guest authours). I stumbled on this website when looking for articles on kpop, and look where that got me. So basically, just keep on with what you've been doing: hilarious drama reviews, culture, and movies, but throwing in your unique mix of humour and comments on favourite couplings. I know that I could never keep recapping dramas day after day for five years - I don't have the patience, let alone making time! - so I find the fact that you do it (and do it well) really amazing. Javabeans, girlfriday, and all the guest writers - you're all fantastic. Keep up the awesome work. And from all of us kdrama addicts out here...THANK YOU~ (:

I miss your fanfiction. I think you did it on your first year of javabeans.wordpress. Remember Air City?

You're so upset about the plot then you write your own plot. If I'm not mistaken, it's about Choi Ji Woo's sister.

At that time, I said to myself that you're so good writing a story.

Well, if you have time, could you do fanfiction or maybe a twisted plot for drama that write an unbelievable plot?

Thank you. And happy birthday.. :)

same as others:

more variety roulette! coming to love korean variety shows (starting with WGM, and Happy together) -- would love your commentary on them. :p

I like the movie reviews -- now that I've fully been drawn into the the world of kdramas, I'm branching out into other aspects of korean entertainment, and the movie reviews are good for pointing out movies of potential interest. Also, I liked how only1tony reviewed movies that were outside the rom-com genre. I ended up watching Ajusshi and loved it!

more pop culture posts! helps understand the cultural references in the shows

movie ratings along the lines of the drama ratings page

more shows getting recapped. especially the older shows -- loved the MNIKSS retro recaps this past summer!

I have to say, i'm glad jb and gf have helpers along the lines of guest recappers. They do a good job. But they can't beat javabeans+girlfriday as my favourite recapping duo! Way to go girls, and happy 5th to Dramabeans!

I would like to see your opinion on certain dramas that are currently airing but that you can't recap. Perhaps do a quick drama review of older dramas that you haven't recapped as well? And it would be awesome if you did more Variety Roulette, because those are really fun to read! Maybe you could also give your thoughts on K-Pop and the idol world, since it's so much different from the Movie/Drama world if we could say that? Basically, I enjoy reading your opinions and thoughts on different subjects, so anything about dramas, movies, variety shows would interest me! :D Thank you very much for doing these giveaways and for all the hard work you've gone through to give us recaps and awesome posts! :)

I always find social commentary on Korean (pop) culture here very interesting, especially the blogs in the past posted about gumiho, oppa effect, piggyback rides, etc. Would be wonderful to see more blogs like that, like maybe about other folk tales, families, etc. Thanks!!

I think there's alot of things on Dramabeans that all of us already appreciate - such as the recaps for kdramas, the podcasts, the recaps for variety shows, news about what's happening with actors/actresses and all that! I just think Dramabeans is perfect the way it is! I think it must be very time consuming to write and post all of these news...but a sincere thank you for all you have done! :D Happy 5th Anniversary to Dramabeans!!

It would be interesting to see someone in the Dramabeans team write recaps on old kdramas in the past, like for example in the late 2000s or 1990s or even in the 1980s - who knows, there might be a brilliant drama just waiting to be seen!
Or, we could have weekly polls on what we would like to see on dramabeans (in case you might have difficulties on what to post and give a recap on with alot of goodies coming soon hehe) I think you might already have that though.. Or, you could post podcasts more often on Dramabeans, they're extremely entertaining to listen to!

I also think it would very interesting to see someone post a bit more kpop and the groups out there (like Beast, SHINee, SNSD, 2PM and so on) - perhaps like recommendations on kpop or dicussions about kpop? It would be fascinating to see what everyone thinks of kpop and etc : D

Ever since Dramabeans has been posting more often about variety shows than before, one day, whenever you have time, you could also recap an episode of other variety shows or reality shows related to kdramas or kpop or anything they show in Korea! Heehee.

Finally, maybe it might be nice if there is someone who has time to post about Korea and more about its culture? I mean, the amount of fans for kdramas and kpop is growing by the day, and they might want to know more about Korea and its culture and anything related! I've been to Korea many times, and have some friends asking me what Korea has been like, so maybe this could be a good idea for fans even though it might not be related enough to Dramabeans? :S

I'll stop now, or I'll start babbling hahaha Happy Birthday to Dramabeans once again!

I would like to see more articles of kpop culture like myths, traditions, food, or lesson of korean language. Beside it's knowledge broadening, it will help me understanding kdramas.

More articles about interview with actress/actors are great to see, but I'd like to see interview with scriptwriter of kdramas too (I seldom found this). I want to know his/her explanation about the drama plot or his/her future work.

Keep up the good work, DB!

note: if you want to do a movie recap in the future, i believe you'll have to put "korean movies" in your tagline.. hahaa

Thank you Dramabeans!

Through your snarky, a-blast-to-read recaps I've come to understand a lot of the peculiarities of korean culture and mentality.

I would love to read more of your ramblings on the quirks of korean society (the good, the bad, and the funny) taken from situations in dramas (since Dramabeans is all about getting our drama crack anyways!).

I absolutely adore your hilarious podcasts and, for 2012, I would like to have more of that, please!! (and also, who knows, maybe a video podcast? *hint hint*)

Thank you so much! I love Dramabeans!

This sounds a bit crazy but ^_^ i always wondered if you guys were to script a drama how would it be!! So i was thinking maybe you guys can

a) recap a drama and then tell an alternate version to what /how you would've done that episode (like a short summary, not necessarily full dialogues :D )

b) a mini story time thread where you throw out your ideas for a drama for us to debate and enjoy! :)

or c) make funny videos/podcasts enacting cliched dramas! :) that would be hilarious!

PS: YOU GUYS ROCK! ROCK ROCK!!!!!!!!!

Well I love Dramabeans.com its literally in my bookmarks. I visit regularly.

One way I think the site can improve is making it a user-community. With a log-in so users can log in, maybe even subscribe to certain recaps also maybe make Dramabeans a community for drama lovers to rejoice.
Anyone who I know that loves korean dramas loves dramabeans and There's hundreds if not more that love this website by having forums it'd be a great outlet to talk about our love and get other people's take on an episode.

Dramabeans would become less like a blog/website and more of a community of korean drama lovers that are indebted to you JB and GirlFriday! and all the other guest writers!
Thats my idea and I think itd be a great new addition to Dramabeans

Thanks !

Hm, I think I would mostly like more of the same. I like the feel and overall tone of the site a lot. If anything I wish there really were more hours in the day so you two could watch and reacap all of the dramas lol.

The only real thing I would like to see different would maybe be more of the news articles. Or even a weekly ratings chart to kind of see how all the current shows are being received.
