Kim Jae-won begins shoots on MBC’s Scandal

Here we go, first shoots for MBC’s Scandal: The new weekend drama starring Kim Jae-won playing a detective kicked off filming late last week. Pictured here are stills from a high-speed chase scene (or rather, moments in between the actual chasing).

The full title includes the subtitle Scandal: Extremely Shocking and Depraved Incident, which (1) seems to promise salacious stories and (2) dude, way to oversell it. With that kind of tagline you’d think we’d be delving into the seamy underside of showbiz or politics or the like, so I’m still trying to figure out how that works with our story. In it, Kim Jae-won discovers that his father was actually the man who kidnapped him as a child. As it turns out, the kidnapper lost his own son in a building collapse and stole the son of the man responsible. With that premise, I’ll give you Little Bit Surprising, Maybe, but hardly shocking or scandalous. Have you producers seen any dramas lately? This is standard-level conflict these days.

Scandal has a pretty top-loaded cast in addition to Kim Jae-won, with TV veterans like Shin Eun-kyung (Flames of Ambition), Jo Jae-hyun (New Heart), Park Sang-min (Incarnation of Money), and Kim Hye-ri (Kingdom of the Wind). Jo Jae-hyun plays his father, a former detective with a sincere and simple-minded character; I’m not sure whether this is the bio-dad or the adoptive-kidnapper dad, but I think it’s the latter. And despite there only being a 16-year age difference between the actors I think I can see their energy working well together.

Park Sang-min plays a fiery head of a chaebol group, taking on another villain’s role to follow his Incarnation of Money role. Shin Eun-kyung plays his wife, a rational and cool-headed lawyer. Jo Yoon-hee (Nine) also stars as our hero’s love interest.

Scandal will follow current weekend series Hundred Year Inheritance and premiere at the end of June. C’mon, Show. You’ve got four weeks to get some actual scandal up in this Scandal.

Never quite understood the appeal of KJW's smile.

For the lack of a better term, it's very "plasticky"-looking.

I like all the characters in May Queen except from Adult Hae Joo (Han Ji Hye) ... and the script is a big disappointment.

Jae Hee and Kim Jae Won are my bias, so either one who got the girl is fine with me.

I was disappointed on JH because he choose to join JOJ, and his role is just a sidekick.. i was hoping he would get a main role on his next project after MQ.

Now i'm putting all my hope to KJW, he got the main lead, and hope this drama got a good script. So far, he never disappoint me.

I'm so excited to watch this series... i'm currently watching JOJ, Gu Family, Shark, and When a Man Fall Inlove...

i never find any of KJW drama that I really love I except May Queen I watch Hwang Jin Yi n doesn't remember he's there, I watch Jae hee project more: Chun Hyang, Color of Woman n May Queen n his movie that Ilove Art of Fighting n 3 Iron, I watch Jang Ok Jung now it's because of the story not just about Jae Hee even I'm little dissappointed because his role untill now still minimum
So I prefer Jae hee project choice than KJW

Will,... for me i prefer KJW drama more than Jae Hee , 95% of KJW projects have a better story , he had 14 series under his drama list and i only miss to watch Beijing My Love, because until now i coudn't find it online. My favorite are Can You Hear My Heart, Wonderful Life, Rival, Romance, Great Inheritance, and Wuri's family where both Jae Hee and him also starred.

As for Jae Hee , he had 11 dramas under his list, i manage to watch 10 but the only one that pass my liking is Delightful Girl Choon Hyang , and May Queen not because of the story but because his character was well written. The rest of his projects are so so so , he is a good actor and i like him but his choices seems not favorable most of the time.

When i watch May Queen i always visit forums, almost everyone agree that Jae Hee character is better written than Kim Jae Won , but KJW still got more supporters because his character all the way remain favorable, viewers don't just like artist base on their acting skills but also on their role choices. I think the reason why KJW is much popular than Jae Hee even if both of them have the same level of acting skills is because he manage to get good works and improve his acting along with it while JH seems doing the opposite way.

You said you only watched 2 of KJW work and can't even remember him on one of it, so i don't even think you will be able to compare him to JH fairly. It's more like you watch JH projects because he is your bias and you only came across with KJW 2 dramas maybe because one of the cast happen to be one of your favorites too. :)

None of them are my bias and i watch dramas radomly. I watch Kim Jae Won, Can You Hear My Heart, and Jae Hee , Color of a Woman ... and base on that, i think Kim Jae Won had a better choice than the latter...

0

jae hee isn't my favorite actor n he act more comedy drama so when i see he act in may queeen which is really different n i appreciate him more. Actually i see a bit of can you hear my heart but not really like it n I forget i watch 100 day with mr Arrogant.Sorry I never impress with any of his role even I watch it.
My favorite actor actually Kim Sung soo n joo won. I watch all drama of this two actor, For Kim sung soo i only didn't watch suspicious family because there's no sub.

Well all I know is that I loved Jae Hee in Delightful Girl Choon Hyang more than I've ever loved Kim Jae Won in any of his dramas. I still love them both, but Jae Hee wins in my book.

I think that I actually see in Kim Jae won is he's handsome, tall n i heard he has more fans.

You know I never really understood the appeal of Kim Jae won. I saw him in Wonderful Life and 100 days with Mr Arrogant and while he had a beautiful smile he was never particularly handsome for me. But these photos strike those words from being thought and uttered. Seriously he looks fiiiiine, granted I haven't seen him in anything recent past 2005, but I bite my tongue!!

The plot given was too general, i don't think it would be the main conflict in the drama. This year is indeed a year of SCANDAL, there's a lot of scandal lately and it happens almost weekly if not daily.. I bet the writer itself already got plenty of real life scandal reference :) he can pick anything he want... i think this drama is interesting, you can't easily guess what scandal are they refering to unless you watch it.

Jo Jae-hyun plays his father, a former detective with a sincere and simple-minded character; I’m not sure whether this is the bio-dad or the adoptive-kidnapper dad, but I think it’s the latter.

If his father/kidnapper is sincere and simple-minded character why would he kidnap Eun Joong for revenge? That doesn't match up unless he lost his mind after he lost his son... :)

Anyway, this drama sounds great, they give you the plot but it seems like things are not as simple as what it says... the only way to find out is to watch it. Unlike any other dramas this days where you can instantly guess what's going to happen on the entire series just by looking at the plot, this one is different, they give you idea but it doesn't give you enough clue to connect it to the title itself how much more on guessing what will happen... :)

This is a stupid question but hope anyone will give me an answer. :)

Does a detective in Korea need a gun? or he just do investigation?

It's different from prosecutor right? Just by looking at Kim Jae Won outfit, i don't think he work inside the office all day like other prosecutors role on dramas that i watch before. He doesn't wear 3 piece suite like Jae Hee in May Queen. :)

Not stupid!

I did a bit of searching on the internet. Nothing concrete, but my guess is that they do. Since detectives are part of the police it would make sense--as a standard issue thing. I don't know if they would really need to use one though, it doesn't seem like it.

I really like Kim Jae Won. The first drama I saw him in was Can You Hear My Heart? and then May Queen, and I think he's awesome. Charming and funny and he has a sly grin that I really like. I'll be down for this. I do sometimes like having a drama that I can just watch all week--possibly cursing at characters--and this sounds like it would be good for just that. Stress relief! lol

I hope that this drama is better than "May Queen", which I did watch but only the scenes with Kim Jae Won). The last drama of KJW I actually liked was "Can You Hear My Heart". What's up with him doing all these makjang weekend dramas? I would love to see him do a romantic comedy drama or something a little less angsty (even though he does brooding so well too).

Man! Did he get a nose job? He looks different, especially his nose.... I liked him from his initial dramas/ films such as Rival, My Love Patzzi, Romance, Wonderful life, He was cool... He has one of the cutest smile... After that I remember seeing his another drama whose name I don't remember... He had a round and plump face but after he came back from the army, he lost all his baby fats and is looking great....just that his nose is looks way too sleek in the above photos... I really hope he didn't get anything fixed...I hate it when already alright looking people gets it done that to half way through their career... It was a random note...but I am indeed looking forward to this because I missed his latest releases...
I hope the drama is good...will watch out for it! Meanwhile waiting for recap of Gu Family Book. :)

I don't think so... he doesn't need to change anything just to look better because he is already so good looking.. i think he only turned manly compare to his previous look.. but still the same. i watch all his drama i could tell if he change anything. He gain more weight now so he look different from his CYHMH character but he look the same on his character in May Queen, only the haistyle change a bit..

I love this actor! I will definitely tune in for at least a few episodes to see what it's all about. I hope it won't be too action oriented, though (nor too terribly makjangi---though I have to admit to loving Can You Hear My Heart). I agree his smile is indeed devastating. To me his nose looks no different from his stint on CYHMH, though. And concerning the ubiquitous Korean actor hair cut, it's not just limited to actors and boy band members. I was at my niece's high school graduation last night, and a number of the Korean male students in her school were sporting some variation on this style. They were all so cute I wanted to pinch their cheeks.
