I Hear Your Voice: Episode 10

It’s the first episode in a while that isn’t a total heart-stopper, but maybe I should just be grateful for my nerves. Not that it’s a reprieve from the heartbreak, mind you. Oh, there’s still plenty of that. There are big reunions all around, and though we wish it were something other than a murder trial that brought them all together, the worst-case scenario really does come to pass. Now it’s time to find out who’ll come to the hero’s rescue when he’s vulnerable and alone, and at the end of his rope.

Ratings hit another high today at 19.7% (Queen’s Classroom followed with 9.5% and Sword and Flower came in at 6.4%).

EPISODE 10: “Why am I lost searching for painful memories”

Hye-sung races to the police station to see Su-ha for the first time in over a year. Coming to get him at the precinct—some things never change. She runs inside and calls his name, and he looks at her curiously as she checks him for wounds and rattles off worried questions.

Su-ha: “Park Su-ha? Is that my name? Do you know me?”

Oh, hello there, ton of bricks. Nice to see you.

After the wave of initial shock at the fact that Su-ha doesn’t remember her, Hye-sung takes up arguing with the detective that Su-ha is no killer, while the detective says he admitted to the fact that he could have killed someone, because he doesn’t remember. Dude, seriously, that’s what you’re going with?

As he sits silently and watches Hye-sung fight for him, Su-ha thinks to himself: “I’m sorry but I don’t remember that person. Even though she’s fighting so hard for me, that voice, those eyes… I don’t remember them. From what they’re saying, I must’ve killed someone a year ago…”

His eyes start to show panic—is this who he is? The cop says there are plenty of signs that point to premeditated murder, like the fact that Su-ha went after the victim a week before his death with a knife. Don’t you people have to find the rest of the body before you call it murder? Su-ha thinks: “I don’t want to recover my memory. I don’t want to know that I’m that cruel a person.”

But then Hye-sung rages right back that Su-ha is a first-rate student who could have his pick of colleges, a kid who saves other people, and throws himself into harm’s way to protect others. “And he promised! He promised me he would never kill anyone. He keeps his promises. He keeps promises he made ten years ago!!”

He looks over at her and thinks: “But then… I’m curious too… about the me that she’s defending so earnestly… what kind of person was I?”

They’re moved into a visitation room with a plexi-glass wall between them, and Hye-sung thinks at him, asking where he’s been for a year. “You can read my thoughts, right? Answer me.” Nothing. Dammit.

She finally says aloud, “Can’t you hear what I’m thinking?” He looks curiously at her and she sighs, “You’ve lost your powers too?” She decides not to explain, and thinks to herself that maybe this is better and the world has gotten quieter for him now.

He asks how old he is, and when she says twenty, he’s surprised that he’s younger than he looks. Ha. She agrees that his face is rough around the edges for twenty. The sudden formal jondaemal makes her feel awkward, and she points it out.

He’s pretty shocked that he used banmal with a lawyer, and she says he never ONCE used jondae with her, from beginning to end. He hangs his head: “I must be a rude kid with no manners.” Hahahaha. I know the circumstances are dire, but this conversation is cracking me up.

He says meekly that he might be a bad person after all. She asks if he has a scar on his shoulder. “You got that while protecting me.” He wonders why. She blurts, “Why? Because you’re a good person, that’s why!”

She slams her hand on the glass and orders him not to ever say that he’s a bad person or that he might’ve killed someone because it can all be used against him. She goes into fixer mode and plans to bring him fresh clothes so that he makes a good impression, and tells him to brace himself for the things ahead.

He’s going to face a crime scene reenactment, and she tells him to just do exactly as she says. She stays up late to prepare herself with the details of the case, and then in the morning, she breaks her one-year silent treatment of Lawyer Shin and butters him up with iced tea.

She requests to be put on Su-ha’s case, and he doesn’t seem interested in helping her, until she pleads: “No one else knows Park Su-ha as well as I do, and no one else will believe in him like I do.” Awww. He complies gruffly, but smiles to himself to see that spark back in Hye-sung.

So when Su-ha is put in the police van to go back to the crime scene, Hye-sung shoves her way in too, declaring that she’s his lawyer. The detectives all gape, “Are all public defenders like this now?”

She puts a mask on Su-ha’s face and takes off her jacket to cover his handcuffs, and tells him to answer everything with, “I don’t remember.” Once they arrive, it’s a brutal frenzy of reporters and detectives, all screaming and barking orders and accusations. His fear is palpable.

The detectives put a prop knife in his hand and make him stab at the stand-in for the victim, asking horrible questions assuming he’s guilty. Augh, it’s terrifying. But Hye-sung fights through the crowd to stick to his side the whole time, and blocks them from trying to unmask him. She protects him fiercely through it all.

As this goes on, we see it on television as we catch up to Su-ha’s classmates. Sung-bin now works in a nail shop, and Choong-ki is a car mechanic, and of course Kwan-woo is still at his parents’ jjimjilbang. All three stop cold at the news report, and Sung-bin starts to cry.

At the office, Pretty the Paralegal is impressed with Hye-sung’s devotion to the case, which he’s never seen before. Lawyer Shin is reminded of a time when he fought so relentlessly, and a flashback shows us that it was Hwang Dal-joong’s case—his friend now in prison, who was put away by Do-yeon’s father.

Su-ha sits in his holding cell in the dark, flashes of today’s events going by and shaking him to his core. He huddles in the corner and feels the scar on his back as if to remind himself of Hye-sung’s words, and then wonders: “What kind of person am I?”

Do-yeon comes by the office to show Hye-sung all the evidence that’s stacked up against Su-ha. She says she feels indebted to Hye-sung because of her loss in Min Joon-gook’s case, and says she understands why Su-ha would have killed him. She offers up a deal—the best she can do in this circumstance—for a 10-year sentence if he pleads guilty.

She means it sincerely when she says this is a good deal, when the alternative is 20 to life and there’s so much evidence against him. Hye-sung knows she’s serious, and says she’ll think about it.

Pretty the Paralegal goes hiking with Kwan-woo, which is clearly not his idea of a good time. But he uses the opportunity to tell Kwan-woo about Su-ha’s case (in hilariously incoherent gasps which Kwan-woo deciphers in perfect synchronicity, ha). When Kwan-woo wonders if he can get a copy of the case files, he busts them out of his backpack, already prepared. Cute.

Hye-sung headdesks all day over Do-yeon’s plea bargain, crying that she’s always coming around with some new torment cooked up just for her. Lawyer Shin digs up a giant stack of case files and tells her they’re for Hwang Dal-joong’s case, which was very similar to Su-ha’s in that he didn’t remember the night of the murder.

He says that he didn’t take the plea bargain and Dal-joong is spending his twenty-sixth year in prison. But his point is that whichever way she decides to go, this old case will prove to be a good learning tool. She asks if he could go back twenty-six years, would he plead guilty? We don’t get to hear his answer.

Hye-sung goes to see Su-ha, and tells him about the deal. He understands, and asks what he should do. She says they’re going to plead not guilty. He says okay. And then immediately she changes her mind—they’re going to plead guilty, because he could spend the rest of his life in jail. He says okay again.

She yells at him to think before answering, but he says she knows him better than he knows himself, so he’ll let her decide. Whatever it is she chooses, he’ll go with that and take responsibility.

The blind faith is appalling, even coming from him, and she asks if he knows what she is. He answers that she’s a public defender, and that he gets the general feeling of what that is. “When no one else will take my side, you’re the one who will.” Awwwwww. I… have something in my eye.

She’s shocked by his words, and he asks if he’s wrong. She says he’s right, but it’s the part that he doesn’t know that kills me—that she IS that person, but only for him and him alone.

She thinks back to her conversation with Lawyer Shin, and this time we hear his answer—he’s asked himself the same question a million times for the last twenty-six years, but every time his answer is the same. He’d still plead not guilty.

She tells Su-ha that they’re going to plead not guilty, and he nods. He still doesn’t remember anything yet and apologizes for it, but she just holds his hand and says it’s okay. I love the moment when he looks down at her hand—she thinks nothing of it because that’s normal between them, but he’s discovering it for the first time.

She goes for a spin in her revolving door, wondering if she did the right thing and if she can win this, and when she comes around, there’s Kwan-woo smiling back at her. He’s back in his spiffy suits, though I wish he’d keep the glasses. Is it too much to ask for one remnant of his grand dorkiness?

He greets her warmly, though she’s still a little distant with him. He suggests a trial by jury for Su-ha’s case, because a jury is more prone to being swayed and Su-ha is young and a first-time offender. She agrees it’s a smart play.

He says that she’ll need another defense lawyer then, and asks to join the team. He says he’s been living in a hell for the past year, but that he still wants to believe in the law.

She agrees right away to let him join the case, but makes it clear that she doesn’t care what his beliefs are or what the law is or isn’t: what she needs is somebody with the skill to get an acquittal for a guilty man. Dayum. She speaks the truth but it is brutal.

The meaning isn’t lost on him, but he thanks her for letting him help, and she offers up a handshake. He takes it, and notes that it took a year to reach this hand.

Choong-ki goes to visit Su-ha in jail, and struggles with the “relationship” blank on the visitor’s form, finally landing on “friend.” Yay. He tells Su-ha to cut out the jondae, saying they’re classmates, even joking that the prison uniform is fitting for him.

He’s here to deliver Su-ha’s journal, so that it might help him recover his memory. The guard says he’s not allowed to give Su-ha anything, so if he wants to read it, Choong-ki will have to read it to him in little bits each day.

Choong-ki gets nauseated at the thought (he already read some of it and calls it disgustingly touchy-feely) and gets up to leave. But Su-ha calls out to him desperately to ask if he’ll stay, so Choong-ki sits back down and starts to read.

He starts reading the first entry from the third grade in this hilariously deadpan tone, all while inserting his own commentary. I luff this. So much.

Meanwhile, Kwan-woo gets reinstated on a temporary basis just for Su-ha’s case, and Pretty the Paralegal actually does a movie-slo-mo run at him with open arms when he returns. Hee. Sadly for him, Kwan-woo is more interested in getting to work and dodges him. Throw the sidekick a bone, man. Would a running hug kill you?

Sung-bin goes to visit Su-ha, but gets turned away for the umpteenth time because of the rule that he can only have one visitor a day. Turns out it’s because Choong-ki’s been here every day to read more from the journal.

He reads an entry where Su-ha talks about wanting to go to the aquarium with this mystery noona that he keeps writing to in the journal, and laughs calling him a kid. But the mention actually brings back a real memory—just a flash of Hye-sung’s face at the aquarium. Su-ha urges him to continue.

He writes in the next entry that it’s the day of his father’s memorial, and that he always thinks of her especially on that day. He says that she came to the courtroom to rescue him when he was so frustrated and scared that he couldn’t breathe—she made it so that he could breathe again.

Choong-ki asks if this woman he keeps writing to is one woman—the same one over ten freaking years. Su-ha nods, agreeing that it is. I love that they’re deciphering it together. Choong-ki thinks it’s that lawyer noona, and Su-ha agrees, but he can’t remember.

Sung-bin waits outside until Choong-ki comes out to give him a kick in the shins and piece of her mind for taking up all of Su-ha’s visitor time when they’re not even that close. He tells her to give up already, knowing what he does now about Su-ha’s devotion to Hye-sung, and says he’ll never come around.

Sung-bin bursts into tears and screams that she knows it too, and runs off crying. Choong-ki feels like an ass and goes after, which hey, is slight progress since high school, though you’re still kind of pulling on her pigtails to show that you like her.

Hye-sung is back for another consult, and there’s a sticking point that I hope they uncover in the trial—the last thing Su-ha remembers is waking up in that grandpa’s house, and the man said he was a relative, which is a flat-out lie.

Su-ha asks why she’s working so hard—are all public defenders like this, or is he special to her? She pauses, and then answers, “Yes, you are special to me.” But she clarifies that it’s because Min Joon-gook killed his father and her mother, and used the law to go free and turn Su-ha into a killer.

She’s fighting tooth and nail because she needs to win this case—otherwise she’ll stop believing in the law altogether and have to quit her job. So yes, he’s special to her.

He asks what about her, to him? Was she special to him? Did he like her? She hesitates, remembering the kiss. He waits expectantly for her answer, but she says (without making eye contact) that he dislikes her, actually.

He says it sounds like a lie, but she insists it isn’t, and that’s what she hopes is the truth anyway. Augh, don’t say things like that. That’s gonna hurt later.

Kwan-woo finds her sitting in an empty courtroom the day before the trial, and he admits that he’s nervous too because Su-ha’s future rides on their every word.

He tells her he’s going to win this case no matter what, and that once he does, he’s going to ask her again if she’ll be with him. She starts to answer, but he tells her that he hasn’t asked yet, so she can’t answer.

Trial day rolls around and each side prepares for the big day. Pretty the Paralegal hands Hye-sung her scales of justice pin, saying that he’s been saving it for her for a year. She puts it back on.

Su-ha puts on the plain clothes that Hye-sung gave him for the trial, and then suddenly grabs his head. A searing pain brings back another memory: Su-ha and Min Joon-gook, standing by a river. It’s late at night, and Joon-gook cries. Craaaaap.

Su-ha doesn’t know what it means, but it freaks him out, and he’s a ball of nerves when he enters the courtroom. Hye-sung smiles at him and it calms him down, and she thinks to herself, of all the times for him not to have his powers…

The prosecution starts, and as Do-yeon describes the crime, Su-ha starts to have another flash of the crime scene. This time we see Min Joon-gook wince in pain, and Su-ha stagger backwards in shock. Bloody hell.

He starts to panic, and then the judge asks how he pleads. He freezes up, and looks over at Hye-sung who nods to urge him along. So he says not guilty, as they rehearsed… but he doesn’t look convinced that it’s the truth.

As the battle goes back and forth between the defense and the prosecution, we see each side discussing their tactics beforehand. It’s not strictly necessary, but it does reiterate the motivation behind each move. Not that anyone could be confused by your Sesame Street Law, but whatever.

The prosecution goes for violent imagery to make an impact, like Su-ha’s attack on Min Joon-gook caught on camera, or the severed hand. The defense in turn shows a video of Kwan-woo at a butcher shop, hacking a giant hunk of meat to pieces using the same-sized knife found at the scene. It took him seven hours to cut up the body, well outside the time frame.

The defense knows it’s a long shot to find another suspect, but their goal is to provide reasonable doubt, and they suggest two possible suspects—the owner of the fishing dock where the crime took place, and the grandpa who lied and took Su-ha in.

Do-yeon pokes a hole in that right away though, given that both men are too small in frame to have committed the crime. Kwan-woo decides this isn’t going their way and hurries to request a recess to break the prosecution’s rhythm.

The defense team struggles with what to do next, quickly running out of options. Kwan-woo has sent the paralegal to hunt down the person who called to turn Su-ha in, thinking it suspicious that someone who lives so far away in another town could have happened to know exactly where Su-ha was living.

But when he gets there he finds that it’s just an ajumma who runs a fruit stand, and not so much a possible killer. What, like she couldn’t have been tipped off by a third party? And the reason we’re doing this on the day of the trial is?

As Su-ha sits and waits for the trial to reconvene, he has another flash of that night: he’s choking Min Joon-gook, and then he raises his fist to strike him… This is looking bad.

Hye-sung wonders if they need to just cut their losses and plead guilty now, and starts to get desperate that there isn’t any other way to plant a seed of doubt. There aren’t any other suspects, and Laywer Shin sighs that this is just like Hwang Dal-joong’s case. “The Left Hand Murder Case.”

Both Hye-sung and Kwan-woo repeat his words, and they share a eureka are-you-thinking-what-I’m-thinking moment. OH. That took me a minute, but are they thinking that Min Joon-gook could’ve staged a copycat murder having learned of the case when he shared a cell with Dal-joong? That’s smart.

The trial reconvenes and when Hye-sung sees how nervous Su-ha is, she clasps his hand. He looks over at her in surprise and she smiles back at him reassuringly, squeezing his hand.

She gets up to say that there is one possibility that they’ve left out—a suspect who was present at the scene of the crime, had opportunity, and motive. Min Joon-gook. The judge points out the absurdity of fingering the murder victim as a suspect, to which she says:

“The defense contends that Min Joon-gook is still alive.”

Well, DUH.

COMMENTS

Well I guess one lackluster ending in ten episodes isn’t the worst track record in the world. But that was a pretty obvious thing to end on, especially when you could’ve saved Su-ha’s flashback for the cliffhanger to make us doubt his innocence. I haven’t nitpicked too harshly when it came to the lawyering on this show because it’s mostly just a platform for character growth and an exploration of moral quandaries, not a tutorial on the legal system. And obviously TV law is going to be about as complex and accurate as, well, TV medicine, but this show sometimes takes the cake for skipping the obvious steps of investigation—more the realm of cops, sure, but if your universe has cops and medical examiners and people testing DNA, then don’t you also have a Bones who can tell you whether or not a hand was cut off a corpse or a living, walking, talking killer? And wouldn’t the first thing you’d want to argue be that the so-called murder victim was never found dead?

I think the particulars of the case are interesting, and we’re emotionally invested because it’s Su-ha, but we either need to spend less time on the case or do a better job with the forensic particulars if we’re going to give it this much screen time. The way the trials are written, it always makes the lawyers look like they’re scrambling for last-minute ideas, which I get for the purposes of narrative surprise, but you also want to put more faith in the main characters’ skill set. I want to trust that you’re going to win because you’re good, not because you got lucky, and right now you’re leaving me somewhere in hope-and-pray-land.

The one thing that keeps it interesting is Su-ha’s vulnerability (so stirring) and his fragmented memory, which is done really well. The memories come back at the worst times, and in pieces that look fairly damning, even to us. I still don’t believe in my heart that he’s a killer, but it’s kind of amazing that he’s in a situation where he believes himself to be guilty with every recovered memory. That’s a great conflict, especially when he’s desperately trying to figure out which person he is, and hoping against hope that he’s the Su-ha in Hye-sung’s eyes, and not the rest of the world’s.

And that I think makes the amnesiac arc worth it (I admit begrudgingly), though I really don’t want it to outlast its usefulness. There are things we gain, like his rediscovery of his past self with Choong-ki (so cute), or the personal struggle to know what kind of person he was. I love that she’s his tether to the good Park Su-ha, despite everything else pointing to the worst. And that’s the setup that gets me—that he was the one who believed in her when no one else did, and now she’s doing the same for him.

Not having his powers along with that is the kicker, because it makes him vulnerable in a way we’ve never seen, where he has to ask for the truth, decipher lies for himself, and take people’s words at face value. Hye-sung can lie to him now, which is a huge reversal in their relationship, where she was always forced to be honest with him by default, and he got to lie whenever it suited him. Now he really has to go by faith alone, and what’s great is that he still trusts her blindly anyway, almost to a fault. I like that in the new dynamic there’s more confusion and searching for clues too, and that Hye-sung communicates through touch what she can’t through her thoughts anymore. I love that constant thread with them—that no matter if he has a superpower or not, their connection is through something other than words.

I just have one question-- was it ever established WHY Mingook killed Su-ha's dad??? Like obviously this wasnt just a spur or the moment murder... it was done for a purpose.... so why has no one really brought that up? ._.

Not a clue at the moment. I think that's THE thing we will get to know at the very end of the drama. I suspect the dad of the Prosecutor to be involved (maybe the ex client of Lawyer Shin too) but who knows...

I never questioned because I always thought that Min Gook ran his truck into Su-Ha's car by negligent driving and he had to kill Su-ha's dad because he could have been a live witness? Maybe I am missing something?

I'm sure show's going to explain that to us before the show ends for some closure for everyone ( that better be true and if not i'm going to be mad at show).

Ok I understand a lot including you are in love with So Ha or with the actor to me he is too skinny and looks like a 12 year old or a emaciated 18 year old but hey many colors for many tastes or something like it we say in spanish. But you are being too kind to this drama, the plot has more holes than swiss cheese but you said his acting is heart wrenching, well, it upsets me when I read bias judgement but since it is just your personal opinion you are entitled to it and I am entitled to mine. This drama is the worse of the year so far well When a man wasn't great either but this one first the synopsis says a guy with the power to read people's minds helps solve crimes, first hole, he was a victim and we see an angry victim rightfully so but angry, a loner almost a bully, after the third episode I said he is not going to solve any crimes he is going to commit one he is too angry plus that is the way this plot is writtern and big surprise he supposedly kill his dad's killer which we see why is he out when he even threaten to kill the witness and he was let go with good behaviour excuse me this guy kill a dad in front of a little kid and almost kill a little kid and then he almost kill other two kids that saw him and one that testified against him, what type of criminal justice they have in that place? but ok I swallow that then this kid is obsessed with finding the girl that save him and that testified against his dad's killer and he found her and big surprise he was madly in love with her but wait was it love or just misplaced gratitude, we never know because in this drama which I figure the writers couldn't agree in what it was about, was it about love? was it a legal drama? was it about his amazing gift? No, they didn't know or was it about the love of a High school kid wait how a lawyer not a good one she wasn't but that was the writers doing, she is going to have something with a high school senior, that is just yuck, anyway you see it, if he was 23 and she was 30 I would say well it might work but a high school student, she is going to talk about a case and law and him about his gym teacher or his prom. Ok a hole but I take it, so I was saying is this drama about love, no they are not too convince either so what they have to do oh, they create an incident in which he has to disappear for a year that means if they decide to make him go out with her he is a year older, still an unaccomplished young man but he can now be with a lawyer, and then wait his gift is a burden we don't know how to write any stories for it passed ep 3 so we get rid of it with amnesia, nothing better is not messy and then we write the worst cops in history almost morons with guns, so stupid that one lost his gun in his own car and then accused an inocent guy and hide the fact that they found the gun in his posession. These two morons and a tough guy writing the report are going to grab him with no memories and accused him of a crime, I say big surprise we didn't see that coming, but they did it so idiotic that gets on my nerves, so now the defense lawyer joins forces with the most pathetic lawyer in history a nerd an imbecile with a good heart who happened to be a cop but now is a defense lawyer as if, but no this stupid drama has more stupid twist and characters, from the first case to the last and then a judge who has something to hide a secret, oh yeah he is either a murderer or he covered one and his tough as nails daughter with a sense of justice wait didn't his own dad the judge admit to the defense lawyer that he got people to lie under oath and that he knew his daughter lied when she testified against such lawyer and that they should get a false witness, wait a minute shouldn't any of them as officers of the court talk about it, not in this stupid drama. Ok what is left oh yeah this girl has a birth secret she is wait for it she mght be the daughter of a convicted felon or her dad ruin the life of a man and she has to face that but she already knows her dad is a fraud. so no big surprise there. Please this drama is a failure and I regret the 9 hours I watched, there is more holes and fail subplots but I am exhausted... I don't know why you guys keep on doing the summaries when other dramas are less than a failure than this and you dropped them, oh wait So Ha I forgot...

Wow. So much hate. Looks like there is a show that you would want to be recapped here and since it isn't you trash this drama. I would not stick to a drama that leaves me so unhappy for 9 episodes (especially if the male lead is not to my taste).

not really I have no shows right now I am not watching any dramas since there is nothing new, and I do hate it, I hate bad writing, actors try their best but it really comes to the writing and this is the worse one I've watched and no I don't fall in love with dramas I just watch, you speak as if it was a person and a drama is a thing a piece of writing interpret by good or somewhat good actors none would ever receive an oscar for a 16 ep drama but if I am promise something about crime fighting do it a drma about crime fighting if they say it would be about a mysterious kids with amazing powers write something with a kid with powers for more than three episodes and if you say it is about the love of a grown up with a high school kid stick to it but don't make it a mellee of bad plots with a cute face and see what comes out because that means they think that whomever is watching is a big bowl of hormones and not a person with a brain... Why I stick to it I am a spanish translator at viki and I offered to help for 16 episodes so I have no choice, I volunteered and my word is all I have.

"I don’t know why you guys keep on doing the summaries when other dramas are less than a failure than this and you dropped them, oh wait So Ha I forgot…"

As you've said yourself, just as you are entitled to your opinions, so are others. I highly doubt that anyone on DB would readily agree to committing several hours out of their busy days to recap a series simply based on how attractive a character is. Perhaps the drama comes off as dull and irksome to you, but many are enjoying it as much as you aren't for each their own reasons. Further, the many series that the staff here chooses to recap are fully out of their own desire to; if they start one and find it not worth their time, they'll drop it like a hot potato (think I Miss You, You're the Best Lee Soon-Shin). Bottom line is, no one owes you anything. If a drama is not to your particular interest any longer, the best course of action would be to discontinue watching it/reading the recaps.

Otherwise, you bring up some valid points, but most of them are obscured due to the structure of your post - in the future, I'd advise separation different ideas into different paragraphs to make it easier for people to read what you have to say.

In response to the part regarding the writers seemingly not being able to decide on a genre or theme: It's most likely all of the ones you mentioned, including romance, law, Su-ha's supernatural ability (that is non-existent for the time being, or perhaps forever henceforth), suspense, etc. It isn't without flaws, but it if so many viewers are entertained, that could only mean the writers must be doing something right somewhere. Like nearly all Korean dramas, there's no doubt that this one likes to focus on the love aspect too. I can't say much for the accuracy of the legal practices in the show, but at least it's cleverly weaved into the plot without feeling as if it's forced in. You could say it's a romance that takes place in a law setting. But nearly every element in the show is interconnected with the other. Su-ha's initial devotion to Hye-sung seems like nothing more than a puppy crush, but he's willing to protect her no matter the cost. She didn't comprehend the extent to which he'd begin mattering to her too, until she lost him for a year's time. And now that he's back, he's sans mind-reading ability and she's the one who has to learn to "hear his voice" the way he would hear hers. It is most definitely a stepping stone to her character growth without the crutch that is Su-ha, since she is realizing the significance of trusting someone precious to her and being there for that person who used to lay down the same loyalty for her... 'I Hear Your Voice' probably isn't literally about Su-ha's psychic power, it's about how many of the characters are slowly learning to sympathize, understand, and value the connections they build with one another in tacit ways.

There sure are things the story could maybe stand to use less of, though, like Do-yeon's birth secret. We know that time-skips, memory loss, and birth secrets are all tropes that have been used to death; yet, this show has managed to somewhat successfully incorporate two of the three without giving the entire show an absurdly cliche vibe. There's just no telling whether that'll tie in with the rest of the story just as nicely, but it probably will. Because if there's one thing the drama is doing well, it's that nothing important is forgotten or left out of the loop. We all have our fair share of questions now, but from what I've seen of this show so far, I get the feeling we'll have our answers by the end of it. I could be wrong, but that's why I'm sticking around, to find out.

I love your comment. I just like to add two things. Age gap should not matter but it can bother one who is involved with it. HS's lawyer logical side must say no to SH due to his age first( in face she did not consider SH as a man at first, he was mere high schooler) but slowly she has to come to realize that the age is a mere number.
Secondly, I never believe in drama start with first love then the first love carry on.( Sun/ Moon, Iljimae for instance) I live long enough but I have never seen this case in reality.... but this drama convinced me otherwise. I can see that SH idolized HS as his savior then her real self destroyed his illusion yet mutual feelings started grow later on. The plot is quite good enough to convince someone who is skeptical of first love!

Yeah and this is my last response to this I should've put it in order like you said and point by point what it is wrong with this drama I leave that to my personal blog which I publish every months about fail or good dramas, but I was so mad at how dumb this thing is, at how so inconsistent and full of holes it is, I couldn't take it and if you noticed it says right before you comment rant or rave well, I was ranting, I love dramas and even cliches but I don't get why people don't see this for what it is... but it is my opinion, maybe a lot of people have time to invest in this I don't it is getting me upset. I look for the recaps so I could make sense and maybe find something I could say oh that made sense and no, I couldn't so I dropped it all together. I respect your opinion and the opinion of the fans but if you read I wasn't really aiming to anyone or trying to convince or to offend anyone it was just a rant of an angry fan like many other people have written before and will in the future as long as it says rant or rave and not just give us your bias opinion since this is a forum for die hard fans who would accept anything from the shows they watch. Since they allowed me to rant if I hate the show or the recaps and to rave if I like it I took the chance to get it off my chest.

Hi Lupita311, I saw your comments on how much you hate this show in Viki as well. I feel really bad that you have to endure subbing in Spanish. Keep up the good work. I know it is volunteer work and it must be stressful to sub a show you dislike so much. But I think because of you, many Spanish viewers enjoy the show very much and for that thank you.

I feel you!

But my problem is not the plot holes... (I can handle plot holes as long as it's not bothering me alot and feel the drama still has compelling narrative) more about The tone. I don't know what this drama is all about... some scene is fluffy and very lightheart.... but the next scene is like a different drama altogether, like watching a makjang show with sociopath and one caricatures villain. I have watched the first 4 episode... and I can't stand the tone inconsistency, and the character is supeficial to begin with...

So I start read the recap instead... and from the screen caps alone... it seems the over the top scene is getting worse...

because of that, I can't take the character seriously enough.

I get so many raves talking about this show being good... and I get a dissapointment
But I respect alot of people enjoying this show... this drama indeed has heart.. just like gu family book... but sorry I will pass..

I agree it's hard to determine if this is a rom-com or a courtroom drama or thriller but I love this mix and the roller coaster ride it gives.

I don't agree that villain is a caricature, I have seen many caricature villains and MJG is not one of them by far. So I guess no need to ask about which character you find superficial

I won't go as far as calling this the best show of 2013 because we are just 7 months in but it's definitely one of the better and more enjoyable ones. It started out way under the radar but turned out to be much better than expected. There are no big names in this show cuz I am not sure if LJS can be considered one although he is getting more popular by day. Not a fan yet but I'll definitely watch out for this talented young man.

couldn't agree more that MJG is no caricature, he is one of the best villains I can recall in kdrama. The actor has done so much great character work and nails every role (the sad 2nd lead brother in Last Scandal was such a nice guy, he broke my heart). K2H, that was a caricature villain who belonged in a manga - but MJG is real-world menacing.

Also like to add to the shout-outs for LJS! In Secret Garden he seemed like another wooden flower boy plucked from the runway w/o regard to skill. Then I watched it again and realized he was really, really acting that snotty, petulant musician. Seeing him in IHYV confirms that he looks like a big future talent. Glad to see him!

No
He is crazy sociopath.
Just because the writers give some weak back story doesn't mean the writers success humanized him. The ott acting doesn't help either. Each character act like 15 years old.

I agree that the legal and police stuff is enraging. At least for me who knows well the Western criminal systems and not so much the Korean one. I think that's precisely what the writer wants to "demonstrate" here (it's just a drama, not a documentary so take this with a grain of salt):The inanity of all this. How mere good luck and bad luck can play against you in court (3rd time is the charm?). How lawyers can work for a paycheck without caring for their clients (doctors do that too...). How cops can be narrowminded, incompetent, corrupted, or simply lazy. How judges, medias and jury can be easily manipulated. People seem to have a very idealistic vision of the Justice. When we see in the news all the innocents who are framed or executed by mistake and all the bastards who are released, I can't say I'm surprised. HS was right in the beginning when she said that the winner makes the truth and not the other way around. Throw a smart criminal in there and you have a modern circus. Just looking at the lawyers and prosecutors "rehearsing" their demonstrations and speechees makes me sick in my stomach: It's a battle of egos like in politics. Who's innocent, who's guilty... What a joke, really.

excellent points and, sadly, agree completely EXCEPT in Su Ha's case. Everyone has skin in this case and it's hard to accept that they are just phoning it in for him in their bumbling "oh, I never thought of that until the prosecution mentioned it IN COURT" way. Grrrrr. And a question: aren't juries told to try to remain impassive? The amount of head-shaking and head-nodding in this courtroom makes the jury look like two rows of bobble heads!

As someone that studies law and watch the law stuff in this drama. Ugh. SO many holes/flaws... I can't even.

What is good about this drama is the characters.

And some plots twists that are great however sometimes predictable.

I'm 100% sure this drama will won all the ''year end review db 2013'' here, together with school 2013.

Both good dramas, however not the best drama of the year at all...

Btw, why can't Lawyer Cha get more love?

I wonder what would be if Lawyer Cha was played by another K-actor that appealed more to yous guys like the young actor here does.

Lawyer Cha character would be getting much more love if for example Won Bin played him, lol

way to be biased to young and pretty idols. Guess it can't help, it is always like this.

Today even when Lawyer cha was helping SH people were calling him names and saying it would be better if had no scenes of the actor and they just need SH! SH!

Sh character also have some flaws and did some mistakes like Lawyer Cha character... but people hate to much Lawyer cha and are SH biased, how this would be different if it was another actor young and pretty like the SH's actor lol way to be biased.

Mind you, I'm not hating on the young actor from this drama. He is a cutie and I think he is improving his acting each drama and hope to see more of him. I just get angry when people are way too biased and talk bad about the other actors and say the drama is perfect because one character. Would you guys love SH character so much if he wasn't this cute actor?

I didn't even watched 'School 2013' but I intend to do so from now on....I'm even wondering how it is that this young lad didn't catch my eye earlier...

Lawyer Cha is written as a fool and played as a fool.

I agree that if written and played different the show would make more sense.

But it isn't. Lawyer Cha as written and played is repellant.

And as I said before, SH is miscast because he was born in 1989 and looks it. He is old enough to have a PhD without skipping a grade. He is old enough to have served two years and then gotten a degree.

It is the way their roles are written. Even if any of my bias like Gu Soo or Won Bin or Hyun Bin played Lawyer Kwan-Woo's role and if some different actors played SuHa and HySeung, I would have still shipped SuHa an HyeSung just because the story is written so that (most) of us will obviously ship the lead together. Usually I have 2nd lead syndrome but not this time! The leading male here is just to precious and just too special that I can't ship the 2nd here even though he is the epitome of goodness.

If it makes you feel any better i love lawyer cha, he's my baby.
i've alwayed loved yoon sang hyun and his moist eyes. and i actually followed him way longer than i did for lee jong suk -- this is actually my first project of lee jong suk.
I think the fact is that su-ha has won over all hearts with his protect-noona-at-all-costs, i'll-be-your-punching-bag kind of thing is what makes him so loveable and heart-breaking. I may start a project for some actors, but i always root for the characters based on the world that the writers have created. At the heart, i follow shows -- even actors/actresses i LOVED couldn't make me stick through a show i thought sucked.
I agree though, some of the viki comments on lawyer cha makes me so sad because it's not yoon sang hyun's fault he's playing second fiddle and his character does not make as much of an impact on us as su-ha does.
I just hope lawyer cha finds a nice romance for himself, and i'm pretty sure we all know who he ends up with.

Actually, I don't hate the actor playing lawyer Cha, but I don't like his character, not based on looks. On one hand, he is this clumsy, annoying man (I don't think dorky is cute) but on the other hand he is righteous and naive, but then again, he is smart and a clever lawyer. Don't know why, but I just think he is a boring character, they try to make him fun and engaging, but I just can't. However, I accepted the thought that HS and him being together, after all, he seemed to be a nice and decent person. And they seemed to be compatible. After he decided to defend the killer though, it was a big turnoff. Now I enjoy to dislike his character... ^^;

But I think I will look up the actor on other dramas. I don't think he is old and ugly, but I don't find his character in this show attractive.

I love this episode. After all those things happened in ep 9, i'm glad they're slowing down. Also Soo Ha's case is a very important one, and we all probably predicted this drama somehow would end with HS defending SH at the court. Another thing i love is the way HS is taking care of SH, It mirrors his protection of her that we saw in previous episodes. The tables have completely turned, and nothing can be taken for granted anymore. I love how the dynamics in the relationship were first flipped, and now SH has to depend on HS. It's also interesting that SH was the narrator for the first half of the show, and now it's HS's turn since "he can't hear your voice anymore, you needs to listen to him".

I agree that legal part is the weakest point of the whole series. I know that not all cases in this show are poorly written, especially the twins murder case and the old man newspaper case. There's also a clip explaining how these cases are related to real-life case. However when the plot relates to the main characters, there are big holes everywhere. All the cases involving MJG are unconvincing to me despite the fact that he's the mainantagonist of the show. It's getting annoying and i feel cheated at some points.

While I can see what the amnesia does for the show: hye sung finally gets to defend a case based on her own abilities etc Im still very much 'meh' about it. So now Soo Ha gets to fall in love with her for the THIRD time? Oh please.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

so whatever happened that made him lose his mind-reading abilities also caused the amnesia. makes sense to me.

MJG probably hit him over the head one too many times and then he either blocked the memories, or they were gone because of it. i don't think he's blocking, because the mind-reading wouldn't be blocked before... so he'd still have it. gotto be some brain damage thing - again.

which also means this is the last case and we're probably stuck with it til the end of the series - cause if su-ha doesn't read minds, how would he help her win her cases from now on?

or maybe he could get some prison time and then the legal team would actually do their legwork as they should have done by now, and find MGJ alive and laughing at them all.

not sure if there's enough story to go around for at least 6 more eps, i hope they don't undo all that great work that came before...

0
5
reply

Required fields are marked *

er, not sure we're gonna get any logical reason for the loss of his mind-reading powers (or return, if it happens). The Show's doesn't exactly give us a clear set of rules and stick to 'em!

In fact, I'd be pissed if SH did regain his 'powers' - a bit of a cop-out.

But hopefully the title 'I Hear Your Voice' means that everyone learns to listen to each other's stories and distinguish truth from lies, and HS will learn to be a better lawyer even without SH-the-Court Barometer. That is, everyone except Evil MJK - ugh!! What is WRONG with this guy?!

0
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

how about if they discover his amnesia is linked to some brain trauma that comes up in medical investigation - say, he has big headaches and fainting spells or whatever, they discover a clot and operate him, which leads to the return of his memories and maybe also of his mind-reading abilities?

it would be far-fetched but not impossible in dramaland. and then he'd be able to participate in catching his nemesis and help solve other cases.

but if MJG is gone, it's a long time to wait - a whole year before pointing the police to su-ha's location? maybe something happened to MJG too, or he was just lying low hoping the law had its course... until it didn't and he was too impatient to wait anymore :D

the explanation better be good. because however you look at it, su-ha's going to jail. there's no way to get him out unless MJG is staying there handless and admits to the set-up... won't happen, right?

I LOVED the scene when Choong-ki visited Su-ha in jail for the first time with the journal! The bromance moment was hilarious.

And I also wish they kept the dorky glasses on lawyer Cha Gwan-woo. Yes, he looks quite handsome without them but I feel like his character has changed completely. I thought he was this dorky, idealistic, childish character yet now he's all serious, mature, and cool.

Anywez I digress, the point is I believe LGS is a vry good actor n is extremely versatile ( atleast he is trying to b n I believe he has succeded in each,, say like when I looked the prettiest, korea, high kick) n to top it all he is vry new to the field. No I dont think he has any glamorized role as such to make females drool on him only for his looks to completely disregard his acting instead I think he ( as he himself has mentioned in many of his interview) looks for roles to act not to b famous,,, in school 2013 too he had to act tough not cool n first n foremost his role in secret garden,,,,, if he was here to make it by his looks he would definitely havenot choosen to do tht role considering he himself is quite manly as a person,,,,, I know he has a long way to go n lots of things to prove but so far I think he's done a quite a magnificent job n we need to support him n not ditch him on his flaws which every actor has evn the best among the best,,, n to tell u the fact if he wasnt a good actor I dont think he would have landed on this role y cause his character is very layered n peculiar which I believe is vry hard to do esp for a newcomer...noone knows if he will b able to fascinate us with his acting capabilities evn after some yeaars if he will b then we can truly brand his as an awesome actor as for now alli can say is he has done more than anyone could ask frm a newcomer model turned actor so we need to appreciate his achievements n not gun him with harsh remarks,, with the type of roles his choosen till date I feel like he might b able to do great in future but you never know do you... only time can tell...so please dump those appalling rants somewhere else ihave disliked dramas too half way through it n many actors have dissappointed me but I certainly dont go barging on their pages to b a nuisance....

omg thank you so much for the recap. i just finished watching the episode and i have to admit, i did a mini fistpump inside of me at the end of the ep where Hye-Sung said that Min Joon-Gook was still alive.WOoo. that face on Seo Do-Yeon's face where she knew she was going to lose. Its so... whats that word.. mmm it felt like she deserved it?
Also does anyone else who watched teh episode think that Kwan-Woo did a way better job than Hye-Seong when they were presenting their evidence? i dunno, it just felt like, compared to Kwan-Woo, Hye Seong's speaking ways and her confidence were no match to Kwan-Woo? IT just shows Yoon Sang-Hyun's confidence in his acting.
i think somebody else mentioneed this in a previous comment but could we pretty please get Kwan-Woo and Choong-Ki pairing? also Hye-Sung and Su-Ha of course.

I love how for Suha, this is the second time Hyesung is "taking his side even when nobody else is", just that he doesn't know it.

First time he could hear and see all too clearly, but no one could hear HIM.

This time he's lost his superpower, but more so he's lost his voice so to speak, his sense of self and truth, and Hyesung is the one to speak on his behalf again.

Both times he's this lost little boy in court. Only now he's facing not a villain in the room but his own possible evil nature. Both equally terrifying, probably.

Can't wait to see when he gets his memories back, and if it comes with his superpower. I never thought about it, but Hyesung pointed out quite rightly maybe he's better off without it. I'm sure the writer will play out the OTP development sans mind-reading for a while longer at least, so she gets to hide her heart a while more. To the viewer it's clear as day by now though.

Seems like the trial will end by the half-mark of the next episode. I hope Hyesung gets to bring Suha home after ;)

I saw it all coming but the way the scenes played just made my day. This drama leaves me each time wanting for more and more... THIS IS THE BEST DRAMA that I've seen after a long-long-long time...

I love how everything is reversed and starting from the scratch. The Writer/s of the drama and the Drirector are smart people and exactly half way through the drama, they've turned the tables!

Love how HyeSung and SuHa will (re) discover their bond and I know now where things will end...

I am sooooooooooooooo HAPPY at the moment and I don't care about Amnesia like many of the people here. Instead it is a very good and key plot to the entore drama. Give me any good scenario cliche or not and treat it well and make it so interesting that I can't wait for another episode- I am a fan!

I saw the spoiler blurb for episode 10, since it's the one that's already out, and I have to say that I'm calling bull on the whole thing: I found one glaringly obvious error in the spoiler than what we actually watched (I won't say what it is), and the rest of it all seems so dragged out and dark that it does not in any way fit the mood and theme of the drama up to this point.

Oh, and not to mention that there are a couple of Korean news article claiming the staff of the series themselves said that the spoilers and the material they have planned are totally different....

So, MJG gets 10 years for murdering SH's dad and attempted murder of SH. But DJ and SH get a minimum of 20 years to almost life for 1 murder each? Only because the body was cut up? Why is the Korean legal system so lenient only on MJG?

Yeah, nobody expects the writing on the legal stuff in a drama to be a model case of criminal procedure law, but this is way too sloppy and stupid.

I'm glad someone pointed this out because it's been bothering me.
They mentioned that mutilating the body and deliberately hiding it would give him 20 years.
Whereas MJG bludgeoned a man to death with a steel pipe repeatedly after crashing a large truck into his car only gets 10 years.
I was giving show the benefit of the doubt by reasoning that perhaps their criminal justice system got stricter over the years(is possible).
But that was really, show? moment. I guess the writer was just trying to up the stakes but it didn't do that for me.

Guess the Prosecutors were linient.... or it was the judge - Doyeon's father who ruled it. I don't have much knowledge about Law though....just a guess.

I think the 20 years sentence is because, not only the murder, the body was disembodied and also the parts were hidden. That's what DY mentioned to HS on the heavy sentence if SH does not plead guilty.
I guess the difference in the jail sentence was because of whether the criminals admit to their crimes. The cell-mate pleaded not guilty - so to the court no show of being sorry for what he did, hence the heavier sentence.
Think MJK probably pleaded guilty and hence had a lighter sentence and was released on good behaviour. He covered his ass well, coz he had good reports from everyone who knew him, including the cell-mate.

I guess/ bet that when SuHa and Min Jook met before SuHa's amnesia, MinJook might have told SuHa why he killed his father... I strongly believe it and maybe-MAYBE, it might also be a reason why he lost his memory along with MinJook hitting him hard on his head....

yeah, that sounds entirely possible.

But if MJG's aim was to make Su-ha and Hye-sung suffer, then surely SH having amnesia wouldn't have been part of his plan? (*spits on ground after saying MJG's name)

I found it strange that the defense attorney is advised to request a jury trial, and she says "I never thought of that". (huh?) Neither the prosecutor nor the defense attorneys, in this drama, had argued a case in front of a jury. I found this fascinating, so off I went to the internets and discovered that trail by jury is brand new in South Korea, as the cases are usually decided by the judge(s). A Washington State attorney was chosen to advise and set up the jury system last year. See the news article ... I find this fascinating.

It's simply that the Korean legal system is based on the civil law jurisprudence (like Germany & Japan) and not on the common law jurisprudence (GB, USA etc.) And the whole trial by a jury of one's peers thing is a common law feature. Even some common law nations are now getting rid of the jury system due to the time and cost associated with it, but Korea wants to experiment with it. Why? I have no idea.

The least compelling part of this show for me is the lawyering and forensics. It's ok though, I just turn off logic and let them spoon-feed me. I'm here for the superpowers and LJS.

To say the truth, the courtroom scene in this episode sucks. The atmosphere is good, but the logical arguments are weak and unconvincing, like they really brainstormed them in the last minute. How surprising it is that it's still the same scriptwriter who could come up with something mindblowing like the Prisoner's Dilemma case.

Fortunately, though, that the show is still going on the right track. Every character who has shown up so far is well correlated and has their own standing in the story. More and more K-dramas are getting screwed-up endings these days, so I hope that this show will keep on being entertained and tightly-written until the end :)

Who cares if this is high-schooler (initially) role. Lee Jong-suk isn't acting like one and at the current timeline (even the year before), he was just heart-wrenching. The great points of this series still out-weighs it's flaws for me. Too much feels.

This is my second time posting in a comment thread, ohla. I don't usually post

my opinion about any drama series that I've watched, not even in When A Man

Loves which I loved so much and so far this year, until I Hear Your Voice begun

airing and it engulfed my entire being (well, that's quite exaggerated but

heartfelt). To be honest, I was not touched by this show because of LJS, in fact I

was not his initial fan, but I just found myself loving the character of PARK SU

HA and everything that is about him in this show. I don't care about the "amnesia

thing" because, as much as all of you know this time, this cliche in the dramaland

has SERVED its very purpose in this show. My only concern about this amnesia

thing is that it can be a possibility that Hye Sung might lose the case because of

Su Ha's fragmented memories. I hope it will not go that way. But if it does, then

it's fine with me, because I know for certain that the writer has a reason behind it

---so what else can I do about it is to ENJOY the show the way it is presented by

the writer (because if I say stuffs like it "should be this and that", it would sound

as if I want the writer to write this drama the way I want it and not the way

he/she wants it---which is of course unfair in my opinion because it is the

writer's story and NOT mine.)

My point is that, I love the way things are now in Voice. Whether Su Ha goes to

prison or not, it cannot change the fact that I already love him and his character (I

must applaud the actor, too).

I don't want to sound as if I'm contradicting my first paragraph, but, there's this

idea that pops from my not-so-genius-brain. True, I don't complain whatever the

writer intends to do for this drama because that's his own problem, even so, I am

following this series and therefore opinions can occur, mine included. But just

because I have my own opinion doesn't mean I want the writer to write it this

way. This is just my opinion of the possible outcome and I don't connect it to the

writer's mind, I just have to share it because I think it will be more sentimental.

What if....

Hye Sung together with Lawyer Cha really won the case and Su Ha is now a free

man. However, because of Su Ha's fragmented memories he thinks that he really

killed Min. Just right after winning the trial, Su Ha tells HS about his memories,

with a terrified expression, he would say to HS, "I remember it now. I think I

killed Min. But it's over....what should I do?" HS would be in shock but covered

Su Ha's confessing mouth, urging him not to say anything loud lest somebody

hears him. HS would tell him that he's innocent, that he's not a murderer, so they

shouldn't believe his fragmented memories, after all, they're just fragments. But

in Su Ha's memories, he seemed to be a very frightening guy, who even choked

Min to death, that's why he was afraid that he's indeed a murderer (a psychopath

you may add) and that he was afraid that he might HURT Hye Sung, too. And he

doesn't want that to happen. But HS positive words negate his own self-

discovery of who he was, so he was confused even more and asked her, "What is

the truth?" Meaning, he asked her who he really was and not lie to him. HS,

being the only person in the whole world who believes in Su Ha (Seung Bin, too,

but HS's treatment towards SH is more intimate and personal and even more

reasonable) answers him, "The truth...? The truth wins in court, you told me this.

That's why Su Ha, don't ever say that you killed Min, because we WON. I did

not pursue to win your case to become a winner in court, I win in court because

YOU are the Truth, your innocence is the truth." It would be the very statement

wherein Su Ha would come to realized his feelings towards HS (which was

already there from the beginning). But our Su Ha is struggling because of his

fragmented memories (oh please come back soon) and asks her, "But what if I

really killed him? Would you still say the same thing?" Bingo! There would be a

long pause from HS. But what if she would reply, "If all your memories come

back, and that really is the case, I would quit being a lawyer."

"Why?" Su Ha would ask. "If you killed him, then all the evidences point to you,

and you'd be put into trial again, I would quit being a lawyer. If I don't quit, I

might become a very bad lawyer, even worst than that, because I will surely

manipulate the truth and use the law so that you can be freed."

"Why? You said that the truth wins in court, it isn't the same thing now?"
"No, it isn't. Because even if the truth wins in the court, to me, You, Su Ha, is more important than the TRUTH." And so the ultimate bomb from Hye Seung explodes....!

Don't you think it would be sweeter if it turns that way? Of course, that is just my idea. I actually hope the writer would go this way, but then again, this drama is not my story, so I cannot complain. Whatever what path this story ends, I respect the writer's side about it, though I can only hope that he/she will not turn Su Ha a very sad character at the end of this episodes.

i actually thought they were going to think it's hwang dal jong who did this though I'm not sure what his motive was. I definitely didn't think of Min Joon Gook hurting himself just to frame sooha. But on the other hand, after they find out that Min Joon Gook is still alive, only I realized it's possible people like him could have done it even though that means cutting off his own hands. Anyhow, it gave me a huge surprise and it's the best thing when you're watching drama. You don't want to be the smart ass and guess everything without getting any satisfaction from it :)

Apparently, there are rumors of 'I Hear Your Voice' leaked spoilers of future episodes circulating the internet. The writers have published a response to the situation, asking everyone to stop spreading it and to please be patient for the episodes instead. I'm sitting here with my toes and fingers crossed, hoping they won't alter the plot simply because whatever they originally planned is now out of the bag. I'm praying for poor Su-ha to make it through alive and well; he deserves the happiness he never had. This is going to be a painful 4 days until the next episode...

aww -- this makes me feel like the writers might change the story because of leaked spoilers into another story than originally planned. She's a great writer and should stick with whatever she had in mind because so far we've gotten really nice stuff(courtroom drama aside).
Last minute changes would suck too, esp if the production team has already shot some of the scenes.

Can't wait for Su Ha to recover his memory! I think that this case is really significant as everyone is so involved (in every possible way) in it. Hye Sung, Kwan Woo, Su Ha, Do Yeon, Min Jong Gook, even Lawyer Shin and the judge! To Su Ha, it affects how--or where-- he's gonna live the next 10-20 years of his life. To Hye Sung, it concerns her last remaining faith in law and justice. To Kwan Woo, it is his chance to atone for his past mistake( Hmmpf...) and earn back the forgiveness and heart of Hye Sung( or so he thinks.) To lawyer Shin( tis interesting), given the similarity between this case and the one he handled 26 years ago, winning this case would be most comforting to him. It would have been an extra assurance to him that his decision 26 years ago was right and might even ease his guilt towards his friend. In this trial, Do Yeon was no longer mean, but we get to see her professionalism as a prosecutor and it made her more likable than ever. ( By the way, the scene at the lift made me imagine the possibility between Do Yeon and Pretty the Paralegal...okay maybe i'm over-imagining things). It's nice to see Choong-Ki and Sung Bin outta school and I really really dig the special relationship between Sung Bin and Hye Sung. They're not exactly love rivals as neither have the intention to pursue Su Ha.(Sung Bin because she knows she never had a chance, Hye Sung because she isn't aware of her deep romantic love for Su Ha. Yet.) But they are bonding as the two people in the world who actually cares for Su Ha. So Su Ha, please remember everything soon( and get back the awesome mind-reading skills)! Fighting!

It is very possible that MJK cuts off his own left hand to frame SH and also to get the police his track. After HS was stabbed, MJK was put on a wanted man poster. So he needs to do something to get away from the police, and the best way is to fake his own death. That way he is killing 3 birds with one stone. Throwing off he police, getting SH arrested and lastly so that he can lay his hands on HS.

16 episodes so far.
But it may get extended if ratings go higher and higher(as with most shows nowadays) considering we hit 19.7% for this episode. Master's sun has been announced to air on planned date, so they might not be thinking about an extension for IHYV.
I hope they don't. 16 is perfect for a show like this(even though i don't want it to end.) Atleast what follows is highly anticipated Master's Sun and Heirs. Something tells me SBS will be riding high on the ratings table.

Okay, so here's my theory. I already assumed Min Joon Guk, was alive and cut off his own hand by the end of episode 9.
(but I also think it might have been an accident, that Soo Ha caused through fighting w/Joon Guk)

However, Min Joon Guk lost his hand, it obviously wasn't Soo Ha's doing on purpose (couldn't have with that little knife) and whatever the case Joon Guk used it to his advantage with his evil plans.

So I agree w/ some theories I saw: that said Soo Ha looked shocked/terrified at Min Joon Guk because Joon Guk cut off his own hand.

But I also think Min Joon Guk must have beat Soo Ha with a pipe or something (which probably tormented him more mentally than physically, because his dad died like that. Which could explain why he lost his powers, because it seemed like he got his powers after his father was murdered)
Which resulted in the amnesia, not from the impact of the hits, but the mental impact of it.

Also about the old guy I have two theories: 1. He has alzheimers or dementia or sth, so he can't remember, and assumed that Soo Ha was his nephew. or 2. (what i am more leaning towards, since the writers made it a clear point for Hye Sung to wonder why the old man had lied) he has some kind of connection w/ Joon Guk and Joon Guk told him to lie that Soo Ha was his nephew.

Also the reason why I think Min Joon Guk has been laying low for a year, and not bothering Hye Sung: is because I don't think he expected Soo Ha to get amnesia. He probably expected him to get caught fairly fast after he woke up.

I also think he has been waiting for Soo Ha to be declared guilty to 1. get Soo Ha in jail, then 2. come back and attempt to murder Hye Sung, while Soo Ha is helpless in jail, and then 3. get back into jail and kill Soo Ha.

On another note, I think the writers will reveal why Min Joon Guk killed Soo Ha's dad through the flashback (Another possibility as to what the look on Soo Ha's face meant and why Joon Guk looked as if he was crying)

Also I seriously hope the writers clear up this amnesia thing by next week (if not ep 11, then it better be 12, lol)- I'm not nearly as mad as I was when Joon Pyo got amnesia on the last freakin episode of BOF (dont even get me started lol) ~and I can see how the amnesia is being used to reveals things, but still it better be cleared up so the ending can be good!

{Also I know I'm being biased but even though I am glad Cha is helping out w/ the case, he is irritating me with the way he is trying to ask Hye Sung to date him again >.<- she better say no, lol! Soo Ha x Hye Sung team ftw, lol}

The law on this show makes no sense, the court scenes are ridiculous. Especially the ones this week, it almost makes me want to quit watching.
Mom's murder case and Joon Gook's "murder" case are the worst, so stupid it's annoying me so much, I can't take the show seriously.
Ever heard of autopsys? No way Mom's murder could have been ruled an accident. And they can analyse the hand to know if it was cut post mortem (which I don't think is the case because I don't believe Joon Gook is dead).

As for the romantic stuff. I don't feel any romantic chemistry between Soo Ha and Hye Sung. Just bro/sis or even mom/son relationship.

Yeah I'm probably going to quit watching and just read recaps or something.

The first nine episodes of this drama I thoroughly enjoyed. Not the legal parts (which are laughable) but the characterisation, especially the portrayal of the aching loneliness of the 2 main leads. However, with the introduction of amnesia, the show has taken a nosedive. I hate this trope. Episode 10 was the first episode in which I felt bored. Hope it picks up in 11.

Also, I don't think they will end up as lovers, but as close siblings, which would give Su Ha what he wanted all his life, family. After all, there are many types of love.

This drama is not the best but much better than most. There are flaws/holes specially in case proceedings (that includes police, detectives, lawyers, investigations, etc). But it's a drama, what do we expect.

Loved EP01-08. A bit disappointed when amnesia was introduced. Wondering what is the percentage of this illness is in Korea, that many K-drama use this in their plot.

The actor playing MJG is a good actor.

I would love for SH/HS to end up with each other, but i think it SH/KW will be the end. Lawyer Cha was SH's mother's choice, and they seem fated.
