Book giveaway: P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

We’re back with another book giveaway!

Perhaps you’ll recall that we did a giveaway last year for the young adult novel To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, which we were happy to do because the book was sweet, funny, and thoughtfully written, from the perspective of a Korean-American teenager falling in love and navigating her first romance. Jenny is herself quite the drama fan, and I thought To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before even read like a drama plot transferred to novel form (I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t picturing certain K-drama actors in the roles).

The fabulous Ms. Han has written the sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You, which released just today — and since the last giveaway went so well, she’s giving us 5 copies to give away to Dramabeans readers.

Girlfriday and I have read the book, and it’s difficult to talk about the plot without giving away spoilers for the first one (which we don’t want to spoil since you should really just go read it!) — but suffice to say that heroine and middle sister Lara Jean still has her sisterly bonding moments, her fair share of embarrassing teenage-girl foibles, and a love triangle to twist you up, but in a good way (since both boys are such great characters).

TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY:

Leave a comment below, sharing your favorite K-drama set in high school. (Jenny names Answer Me 1997 as hers. I did love that one, but if I had to pick something else as my most addictive, I might have to go with Boys Before Flowers. I know! But it was cracktastic evil magic, okay? Girlfriday says both recent seasons of School, though she reserves the right to rescind School 2015 if Eun-bi picks the wrong boy. You know which one we mean!)

Be sure to leave a valid email address, since that’s how we’ll get in touch with winners.

This giveaway is unfortunately limited to U.S. entrants; apologies to all of you outside of the States.

Deadline: Thursday, May 28, at midnight PST. We’ll announce winners shortly thereafter.

If you’d like to buy the book instead, it’s now available from Simon and Schuster, Amazon, and other retailers.

Not from the US, but for me it's a tie between the two great tvN nigh school dramas of 2012 - Shut Up Flower Boy Band and Answer Me 1997.

Both were perfectly cast (seriously, the breakthroughs those kids are making now), had humour and heart, and - very important - awesome soundtracks. Though if I had to choose one, SUFBB wins because it was set in high school all through, Answer Me did have our kids leaving high school and entering the real world halfway through.

Also an honorable mention to School 2013 for the greatest kdrama bromance of all time - with this kind of bromance, who needs romance?

Such a tough question! Answer Me 1997 will be my answer too I suppose but it's really a toss up with these:

City Hunter - So. Much. Fun. But it was not perfect.
Coffee Prince - I will always love Choi Hang Gyul.
Greatest Love - had to put a Hong Sisters drama in the list.
Cruel City - still watching this and it's amazing and so not standard drama fare.

I read To all the Boys I've Loved Before and thought it was really good! Looking forward to the sequel.

oh just reread the question and it's high school dramas only. Well then it gets easier - Reply 1997 it is! High school dramas don't tend to be my favorite overall.
Still love YA novels set in high school though. Wonder why that is.

ugh thats so hard. i LOVE high school dramas. I'm pretty awful at choosing a favorite anything, but my top HS dramas are Dream High and Shut Up Flower Boy Band. OH my gosh and also 18 vs 29, which I watched yeaaaars ago but still think of fondly. I've never swooned over Choi Siwon so much as I did in his flashback scenes as young Ryu Soo-young. gahh.

In terms of setting, Answer Me 1997 has been overtaken by Angry Mom. No one will ever supplant SIG, tho. ;)

I can't enter the contest since I'm in lalaland but I just want to say THANK YOU for bringing this series into my attention. I LOVED the 1st book! I was playing the scenes in my head like a drama series too!! My friends have been counting down the days 'til May 26 so that they can get their copies. Those nerds have made their online reservations eons ago. LOL!
Unfortunately, it isn't available in the country where I currently am so I'll just have to sulk in the corner for now until its available on ebook. Teehee!

Thanks again ladies! And tell Jenny geeks rock!!

My favorite high school drama would be High School King of Savvy. Watching immature Min seok struggle hilariously to conform to the business world under his older brother's identity as he juggles with high school and hockey, and become more mature under the process was refreshing. However, Angry Mom is starting to sneak in. Both feature boys with an adoration for their noonas. Though Bok dong's refusal to acknowledge his crush on Kang ja makes it much more adoring. There's something about puppy love that makes you want to wrap up Min seok and Bok dong and coddle those sweet pups.

Monstar. I watched it with my teen daughter. (It went a bit wonky near the end, but it had already hooked me by then.)

Playful Kiss
I wouldn't say the plot was remarkable nor was it the best drama under the sun, yet there was something so genuine about the characters' dilemmas and emotions that made it unique. As a high school viewer, it gave me a different lens to view and navigate through high school life. (Though, I might add, much to my dismay there were no Baek Seung-jos at my high school.)

Answer me 1997. It was poignant and reminded me of my experience in high school. I really like bof too, but mostly for the F4 and jan di's ridiculous antics.

too many favorites to list... but School 2013. It's a nice break from all the typical lovey-dovey school dramas that we're all so addicted to. ** true friendship, forgiveness, bromance, school issues, etc**

Almost Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaradise! Boys Over Flowers and not ashamed to say it. It was the first k-drama I marathoned. Yes, parts of it were insane, but I loved every minute of it.

Look forward to reading the book (even if I don't win it).

My favorite high school drama would be Answer Me 1997 for its nostalgic feel of being a teenage, experiencing g first love and sense of loss and fear of becoming an adult that we all can relate to.

My favorite drama set in high school is definately Shut Up: Flower Boy Band. Angry Mom comes pretty close though. I have a thing for misunderstood boys from the wrong side of the tracks with hearts of gold.

Adolescence Medley ♥♥♥
It was short but fun and so adorkable. Not to mention it introduced me to a whole new list of actors/actresses to fangirl over. I've watched a few highschool themed ones, but there was something refreshingly different about Medley. PLus it kinda just made sense. I do need to insert a ♥ for SUFBB to appease my heart's loss though - this is a first win for my brain :)

I haven't watched too many k-dramas set in high school so I'll have to go with Boys Over Flowers because I was a fan of it in high school (both manga, jdrama, and kdrama).

I read To All the Boys I've Loved Before a couple months ago when I was stuck on a train during a snowstorm. Of course it got delayed but I got to finish the book in one sitting. So. Good.

I don't know if this counts because it doesn't revolve around a high school but Goong (Princess Hour) is my favorite high school based drama. It made me fall in love with Yoon Eun-hye and Ju Ji-hoon.

I have to say my favorite high school k-drama is Boys Over Flowers (insane, I know). It was one of the first k-dramas I watched and one I am pretty sure I marathoned on Hulu while I was in college (when i definitely should have been studying). It gave me my window into k-drama and other parts of k-entertainment that I thoroughly enjoy now. It also led me Dramabeans, which has opened my eyes to all the wonderfulness and craziness that are K-dramas (which my hubby makes fun of me for), as well as the wacky and awesome comments of javabeans, girlfriday, and all fellow beanies!

Love all you guys! And thanks for being awesome!

Definitely Reply 1997! I watched it sophomore year of college, and was smitten by the childhood love between Shi Won and Yoon Jae. The story was heartwarming and witty and fast paced, but really it was the characters who gave the drama heart--they felt so genuine and relatable. I guess it also allowed me to vicariously experience all the angst, naivety and bittersweet happiness of my bygone teenage-years. Honestly my high school life was an extremely stressful period mostly spent agonizing over A Levels. (The school walls kept the boys out and locked the girls in lol.) But it's so gratifying to put myself in the drama and imagine that all these crazy adventures happened to me too, haha.

I had narrowed it down to Answer Me 1997 with a soft spot for Dream High. . . but I then remembered that I also have a spot in my heart for Boys Over Flowers (first drama = no control = watching 24 episodes in far too few days). AND THEN I scrolled through people's answers and realized Angry Mom IS set in a high school. . . and I loved it so much.

My favorite is probably School 2015 because of the dark-ish mystery part of the drama, always nice to go off the bubbly rom-com genre every now and then.

I Dream High something something some. ( sings theme song). Dream High - the first one - is definitely my favorite school-based drama. Despite the sub par acting, the plot was great, the stakes felt real and i loved every character and their story lines. Just thinking about the drama makes me smile and it was my first time watching Kim Soo hyun onscreen. I loved him so much, I ended up watching the beginning of Giant just for him. AHHH the memories.

Shut Up Flower Boy Band - because the ost is awesome and every time I listen to it I remember the emotions I felt when watching the drama. The performances by Sung Joon, Lee min ki, and everyone else was great. The drama was so good it made me believe that L was a decent actor but Master's Sun showed me the truth. And even Jo Boa was cute. The whole drama was just cute and completely memorable. Using the dramabeans scale of drama stickiness, SUFBB was 95% sticky and not because i remember every plot point but rather i just remember feeling excited for every episode and every character.

I have only watched a couple high school dramas, my favorites are Reply 1997 and angry mom. If I have to choose it would be Reply 1997. Even though I wasn't a teenager in the 90s and even though I never went to a Korean high school the story was so relatable. I saw this drama on my last year of high school, and it really got me thinking of what the future years would bring.
I specially felt a connection when she was getting ready to go to college, since I was going to go also that fall. The separations of friends really hit home because even though I should have seen it coming, it was hard when everybody went their own way. My favorite scene from the whole drama was when she was riding the bus to go to college and on the way she was telling the events that had happened and how the 90s had disappeared....it sucks to grow up
