The Producers: Episode 8

Today’s episode is all about lovelines, and goodness knows this is a drama that enjoys playing with all the different relationship configurations, but more than anything I feel like it’s really about friendships. Some are solidified, while others spring up seemingly unexpectedly, giving our characters a source of support from people they hadn’t necessarily expected to give it. Lovelines are fun and all (you’ll never hear me balk at a cute romance) but sometimes more than a spark of attraction, what speaks to the soul is a spark of recognition, from one person understanding the heart of another.

EPISODE 8: “Understanding lovelines”

Cindy kisses Seung-chan, completely taking him by surprise. He actually takes a confused step backward (sad) and stammers that this is a first for him. To which Cindy says that it’s not like she goes around acting like this to everyone. She asks what his reaction means, saying that she feels like an MC, handling this conversation solo.

But when it sounds like his answer may be negative, she hurriedly stops him and says she’ll give him time to think it over. She asks for a reply after he’s figured out his feelings, looking rather sad as she says she’ll wait.

Ye-jin gets caught in traffic on the way to the amusement park, and rejects a call from Cindy’s Manager Kim (muttering that they’re the ones who threw her under the bus) before picking up one from Joon-mo. He urges her to hurry to make the fireworks show in an hour, then reconsiders and adds that she shouldn’t hurry so much that it’ll be dangerous: “Come carefully!”

In the bathroom, Cindy mops up her tears and grumbles that someone would think she just got rejected by a guy… and the wonders if she did just get rejected. She insists to herself that he hasn’t replied yet and tells herself to pull it together, even as she’s crying in disappointment.

She tells Seung-chan that she’s ready to leave, though he replies that Ye-jin’s not here yet, Joon-mo’s still in his meeting, and moreover, it’s her birthday—they should celebrate it together. Then he pushes her cap down over her face and stands in front of her to prevent an employee from taking her photo. But Cindy peers over Seung-chan’s shoulder and asks for a souvenir picture anyway.

Of course, one look at the photo has her complaining how Seung-chan made her face look extra big (the courteous thing is for the man to stand in the foreground to make the woman’s face look smaller, since Koreans prize small faces). But she’s mollified when he says he’s never really taken photos with women before.

Sensing that she’s feeling awkward, Seung-chan wheels her to a long, empty corridor and instructs Cindy to hold on tight. He starts running, making the wheelchair zoom by and putting big grins on both their faces.

Once at the park, Ye-jin gets a call from stranger about her headlights and heads back to the parking lot. She informs Joon-mo over the phone just as it belatedly occurs to her that her number isn’t posted in her car anymore, then she drops her phone in shock to see somebody waiting for her. Joon-mo grows worried and starts running toward her.

But it’s only Manager Kim, here to confront her about harboring Cindy. He’s already confirmed it, having reviewed car black box footage and witnessed Cindy taking out the recycling outside Joon-mo’s apartment.

And, then, BAM! Joon-mo attacks Manager Kim with a traffic cone, thwacking him on the head—hard. Hahaha. I know it’s a total mistake but it’s just so satisfying.

Manager Kim isn’t without sympathy for Cindy’s feelings, but he reminds them how fearsome CEO Byun is. He adds that Byun acts this way about Cindy for fear that she’ll turn out “like that friend” from before. Just tell us what that’s about already! After all this buildup, it had better be good.

Joon-mo agrees to take responsibility for Cindy and escort her back to them, but not today—it’s her birthday, and the fireworks are about to start.

So the three PDs gather with Cindy to watch the display and wish her a happy birthday. She thanks them in a small voice that goes unheard, and looks wistfully at Seung-chan as Ye-jin throws an arm over each of the boys. Cindy stands up to join them, and wedges her way between Seung-chan and Ye-jin, haha.

Ye-jin declares that a birthday night must end at the noraebang, adding that Joon-mo’s got quite the voice. Joon-mo says that his friends were always telling him to be a singer (ha, I always forget that Cha Tae-hyun used to be a singer), and at that, Seung-chan pipes up that he can sing, too. Joon-mo looks at him skeptically… and then we cut to Seung-chan giving a rousing rendition of “This Is the Moment.” Joon-mo is grudging at best, while Ye-jin claps enthusiastically and pats Seung-chan’s head approvingly.

Ye-jin and Joon-mo take a turn with a bunch of ’90s kpop hits, and the more in sync they get, the sadder Seung-chan looks, which Cindy notices. Then Seung-chan enters his next selection—Lee Seung-gi’s noona-love anthem, “Because You’re My Woman.” He’s extra pleased when Ye-jin says it’s her favorite song, which Joon-mo would never sing for her even when she begged.

Joon-mo almost cancels the song, which Ye-jin prevents. But then Cindy, who’s looked glum all this time, grabs the remote and cuts the song short with a totally insincere “Sorry. Pushed it by accident.”

Then it’s Cindy’s turn, and she picks Younha’s “Waiting,” singing about falling for someone who doesn’t love her back but waiting anyway. The song continues scoring the scene as Seung-chan heads home at the end of the night (where he turns a shampoo bottle bearing Cindy’s face away before undressing), touching his lips to recall the kiss. Joon-mo watches Ye-jin without her seeing, while Cindy looks at her photo with Seung-chan, smiling as she falls asleep.

In the morning, Cindy reads the article online that insinuates that Ye-jin pushed her deliberately and apologizes for the trouble it caused. Ye-jin replies that it’s okay, even if it did put her in a tough spot, and got her car vandalized, and required costly repairs…

And Cindy just replies, “Okay.” HA. She does take a selca with Ye-jin and thanks her for her help, then heads out to be collected by her managers.

As her car pulls out of the apartment complex, Cindy catches a glimpse of Seung-chan walking by, and a passage from the Demian book seems to illustrate her feelings perfectly—about longing to live out her life, to put something of herself out into the world, and to form relationships. She looks backward at Seung-chan as her car passes, and the passage reads, “Sometimes I thought, ‘Now, right now, without a doubt, my love would be heading my way. That [he] would be at the next street corner, that [he] would call from the next window.'” And once again, we see that it’s a passage that both she and Seung-chan have marked in the book.

At the 1N2D office, the staff discusses the current state of the idol lovelines. Cindy’s the only one without a match, and the (women) writers giggle about matching her with Seung-chan, having sent him out of the meeting to discuss it behind his back. The shoe-tying scene sparked response from viewers, so they propose actively pursuing that dynamic. For instance, they suggest that Seung-chan cover Cindy’s segment for an upcoming special featuring friend visits to the cast members’ homes.

Joon-mo doesn’t look too convinced, but his writers like the thought of Cindy possibly developing interest in Seung-chan. All the while, Cindy finds herself obsessively checking her phone, disappointed when Seung-chan doesn’t call or message.

Ye-jin receives a package at the office and recoils to hear it’s from Cindy’s fans, expecting the worst. But it’s full of cute stuffed animals and “I love you” messages, which the bratty writer explains is a result of Cindy uploading a photo online. It’s their selca from the morning, with the caption: “Enjoying a sweet break with the always kind PD Tak Ye-jin.” Ye-jin is practically giddy at the five thousand likes and the note that calls her Korea’s best uljjang (face + jjang) PD.

Seung-chan, Joon-mo, and another PD head to lunch and start that maddening “What do you want to eat? No, not that” game. Joon-mo turns the question to Seung-chan, whose ideas get shot down, and finally he blurts, “You may eat whatever you like. I will eat bibim noodles.” HA, and then the others follow him for noodles.

Ye-jin and PD Hong-soon join them, and Hong-soon quickly gets on Seung-chan’s shit list by urging Ye-jin to go on a blind date with his friend. Seung-chan’s petty jealousy rears its head—he withholds his egg from Hong-soon, then pretends to only have enough mints for everyone minus him (having first stolen the supply to ensure just this).

CEO Byun visits Cindy for the inevitable confrontation and asks where Cindy stayed during her brief getaway. She’s surprised to hear that Cindy has friends she doesn’t know about, and says that if they started a war against each other, Cindy would lose. Cindy understands this, but counters that in so doing, she would lose Cindy, her biggest asset.

CEO Byun chuckles that she’s quite smart to know this, but says she’s already lost one—someone who was once as dear to her as Cindy was, whose spot Cindy took. If she lost Cindy, that space would be filled right away by a new star.

Seung-chan works up the nerve to ask Joon-mo if he’s fine having Ye-jin go on a blind date. He calls Joon-mo cowardly for knowing how Ye-jin feels but ignoring that anyway, making sure she doesn’t get too close while also making it difficult for her to go too far.

Joon-mo replies that he’s come to understand something from his time working here: “Good intentions don’t make good conclusions.” He says that a person can’t get involved if they can’t take responsibility for it through the end—which we know he’d learned the hard way. We hear the thoughts haunting his memories, as a young girl’s voice had asked if he’d take responsibility for her all the way, and he’d assured her he would. Which, apparently, he wasn’t able to do.

Seung-chan catches Ye-jin on her way out that evening, and carries her fan gift box for her as an excuse to suggest that maybe going on a blind date is a bad idea. He points out that men are the best judges of other men and finds excuses to indicate that the guy is a bad match. For instance, a man who likes stylish women is too fixated on their looks, though Ye-jin reminds him that Seung-chan liked his noona for being pretty. Haha.

When Ye-jin starts to hand over her installment payment for the day, he stops her and asks if they can change the terms of payment, from cash to goods. Like, for instance… dinner… or liquor… or movie tickets? Omg, adorable. Ye-jin eyes him suspiciously, and waits until he offers a twenty percent discount on the debt to accept. He grins in his uncontrollable way, and both of them feel like winners.

Ye-jin complains about Cindy’s lack of manners for not contacting them to say she got home okay, and by now we know her well enough to see that the bluster is a cover for her concern. She asks if Seung-chan has tried calling, which he hasn’t.

Cindy, meanwhile, is so disappointed over not getting a call that she texts Manager Oppa to call her, just to see if her phone is working. Then she logs onto her anti-cafe where her antis are wishing she’d hurry back into action… because life is boring without somebody to hate on. Cindy takes perverse satisfaction in chiming in (under the username Lose Cindy)—especially when they enthusiastically welcome her back and recommend her as a new cafe administrator because of her robust contributions to the site. LOL. She scoffs aloud at how absurd they are, but writes back cutely, “Really? Thank you!”

Ye-jin calls Cindy ostensibly to ask where she put something in the refrigerator, though really to check that she survived her encounter with CEO Byun, saying that she worried. Aw, the ladies get awkward and halting ’cause they’re not good with sincerity, but are they going to be reluctant girlfriends? This is going to be my favorite thing.

Cindy caaaasually asks Ye-jin whether it’s customary for maknae PDs to be very busy—say, so busy they can’t even make phone calls or text. She deflates when Ye-jin says they aren’t that busy, using Seung-chan’s readiness to help her earlier as an example. Sigh.

Joon-mo spots Ye-jin’s phone receiving a text and a call from the guy she’s to be set up with. He tells Ye-jin about the message she missed—but then hangs back and offers reasons why she should decline. Ye-jin is struck with him saying exactly what Seung-chan said, and supposes that two guys saying the same thing is a warning sign not to go on the date.

Cindy keeps checking her phone for messages that don’t come, and starts texting Seung-chan several messages that she deletes before sending—asking how he is, why he isn’t calling, and then snapping that he doesn’t have to call.

She’s moping in bed when Manager Oppa informs her that the 1N2D sent a team to surprise her at home, and she’s annoyed until he says that of all people, they had to send that rookie PD. She bolts up, alternately excited and upset, deciding to send him away, then let him in, then send him away…

Finally, she decides to let them in (after first getting all prettied up, of course), and Seung-chan explains the purpose of today’s shoo. Cindy wonders uneasily what “best friend” they could have called here today, trying to make it seem like there are too many for her to pick just one. The doorbell rings, and she nervously goes to answer it…

And immediately blurts, “Why are YOU here?”

It’s Go Ara, hilariously awkward as she and Cindy pretend to be super tight while going through the usual friendisms for the camera’s sake. They slap on huge false smiles for the audience, holding hands and calling each other best friends and soulmates, while a flashback takes us to a standoff in a stairwell. Both girls glare with a hand in each other’s hair, refusing to let go before the other one, leading to a stalemate.

They tell the camera that it may seem that they’re rivals, but really, they’re the first to be happy for each other when they land deals, even when they steal commercials from each other.

Then the VJ pauses the shoot to reset the camera and the smiles drop as they mutter at each other. Cindy tells Ara she shouldn’t have come, and Ara points out that it’s Cindy’s CEO that asked the favor of Ara’s CEO, since Cindy had no friends. Ara blames the rumor that they spent three hours grabbing each other’s hair (Cindy: “That’s not a rumor”) for keeping her from shampoo ads, and Cindy smugly informs her that she got one.

Ara reasons that this is a win-win situation for all involved, boosting both their images, and suggests that they make the best of it. She hams it up for the cameras, cooking Cindy fried rice and insisting on feeding her, which Cindy only allows because she can’t stand to see Ara feeding Seung-chan instead.

Then Seung-chan instructs them to send a video message to each other’s cell phones, and the ladies have to pause to first get each other’s numbers. HAHA.

They keep up the facade until Ara leaves, and Seung-chan hangs back to have a word with Cindy. He hems and haws awkwardly about this forced friendship shoot feeling wrong for their concept, and that he doesn’t feel good about broadcasting lies. She argues that it wasn’t a lie, and that you don’t have to be very close to everyone you call a friend.

Seung-chan goes for a more straightforward approach and tells Cindy honestly, “I think you’re a good person, but it doesn’t seem as though you think that of yourself. And so, I wonder if at some point, even your sincerity became acting.”

She asks if he’s giving her his answer now. She explains that Joon-mo had told her that in a real variety show, all she had to do was be herself: “But what is my real self? I don’t know.” If she doesn’t love herself, as he says, then who else would? Who would understand her?

She says she understands his reply and bids him goodbye. Once she’s in her room, she bursts into tears.

At the station, Hong-soon is excited to be put in charge of the variety department’s athletic day, because he sees it as another opportunity to suck up to the station director. Brownnosing first, always!

Ye-jin tells the docu crew that she finds these events tiresome, where you’re forced to put on a show of cheering on people who get upset if you don’t. On the other hand, Seung-chan lights up to hear Ye-jin cheering for him while he shows off his basketball skills, and interviews that he loves this feeling of teamwork and cooperation—and support from the cheering crowd—and wishes they could have athletic days all the time.

The guys, meanwhile, go gaga over the chance to ogle the bratty Music Bank writer in tight clothing as she takes out all the other women in dodgeball. Seung-chan uneasily watches Ye-jin fall victim to her and reminds his fellow blubbering dudes that they’re actually cheering against their own teammates.

Hong-soon knows a moment of fear when he’s overtaken in the relay race by Office Nazi, and then it’s on to the main event, the soccer match. As ever, CP Kim and Hong-soon are all about cheering for the station director, even though they’re both on the opposing team. Not that that matters, because everybody falls back to let the director have the ball—people on his team hold everyone else at bay, while opponents all but pass him the ball. The director basks in feeling like a superstar, making for the world’s slowest and least exciting game ever.

That is, until Seung-chan races in to play a legitimate game, stealing the ball and causing the director to fall. Hong-soon races up to Seung-chan and shoves him aside, leaving him blinking in bewilderment since they’re on the same team, lol. Office Nazi drily commentates as the farce continues, and the director scores a wimpy goal, which everyone jumps out of the way to allow.

Yet Seung-chan comes back to claim possession of the ball and scores a quick goal, screaming in triumph… until he registers that everyone’s staring at him in shock that he’d dare play for real. Tied now, the game goes to shootout to determine a winner, and it’s up to Seung-chan to try to score against Joon-mo. Everyone wonders whether he’ll fall in line and allow the director to win, or if he means to play for real like a crazy person.

Time slows, everyone holds their breaths, Seung-chan clenches his fist and starts to run. He shoots—a fast, serious kick—and Joon-mo dives to block it…

We don’t see the result, but join him after the match as Ye-jin compliments his athleticism and mops at his sweat. She suggest a picture, and he pushes his face forward (per Cindy’s instructions) to make sure hers comes out smaller. She gives him the choice to pick his “payment” for the day, and he chooses a movie, exulting to himself over the date that she doesn’t know is a date.

But the song that plays as she leaves smiling is (Coffee Boy’s) “Is This Love?”—the same song that plays as Hong-soon runs into Office Nazi at a restaurant and joins her at the table.

And at home, Cindy watches the video message from Ara, who’s sent a surprisingly sincere message about how she’d always felt they were similar, debuting at similar times at young ages. Ara says how that made her dislike Cindy more, but thanks her for the invitation: “Today was the first time I’d gone over to a friend’s house.” Cindy wipes at a tear, unwittingly moved, and saves Ara in her phone under the group “Friends.”

Today’s lesson about understanding lovelines: “We know the beginning, but not the end.”

Ye-jin arrives at the movie theater and realizes her phone is dead. Seung-chan drives over full of giddy excitement. And Cindy gets caught in the rain while waiting for Seung-chan outside his home, and calls him to let him know she has something to say. He says he has plans, but she just says she’ll wait.

He calls Ye-jin, who doesn’t pick up, leaving him with the dilemma of who to go to first.

EPILOGUE

Ah, now back to that shootout ending the soccer game. Seung-chan prepares himself and shoots. Joon-mo launches himself in the air, and successfully blocks the ball. No goal!

COMMENTS

First off, there was absolutely no need for today’s episode to be an hour and a half. Now that the drama has lost its experimental edge and is basically a straight-up rom-com, 90 minutes (!!) seems like so much time that even the producers are looking for ways to fill it, which leads to episodes like this one that felt like two (or three) episodes just smooshed together, rather than one cohesive one. That whole segment at the athletic day—while super funny, I’ll admit—was essentially filler. The story before and after that long segment was essentially continuous, playing with the Seung-chan love triangle and Cindy’s loneliness, and it was like they sliced open the episode at one point to drop in extra material, then sewed it back up to end on a relevant moment. STOP THAT, SHOW. You’re a good drama! Don’t lose focus!

And to add another minor quibble, I find these epilogues growing increasingly irrelevant. Early on they were cute and funny, but they’re losing punch. You From Another Star had the best epilogues because they tied into the main plot without being crucial to it; they were fun B-sides that added a punchline or showed a slightly different angle. If an epilogue is more about conveying a crucial bit of information, I feel like they should go into the episode itself. Today’s was about something that happened in the main plotline but didn’t really add a twist—it should have just been in the show proper. It would be fine if the epilogue were entertaining on its own merits, which it wasn’t.

But that aside, I did really enjoy the episode and its narrative movement. I still don’t know which way the lovelines will end, which I suppose is the entire point, given today’s message. I know what I suspect and what I want, but the drama does make it a point to keep things up in the air. Like Seung-chan touching his lips after the kiss, even as his crush on Ye-jin rages stronger than ever. And how Ye-jin mostly seems to think of him in a platonic sense but makes comments about seeing him in a new light after he does something impressive, like singing a power ballad or showing off his athletic prowess. And how Joon-mo clearly cares about Ye-jin despite being afraid of doing anything to change their status.

I do feel like Joon-mo is getting short shrift in the plotline, which on one hand I don’t mind as much because I adore Seung-chan, as a person as a character, and am happy to have the story focus on him. But I find it too easy to be annoyed with Joon-mo, and I feel like it shouldn’t be so easy to dismiss him; I want to care more about him and am annoyed with the show that I don’t. We’ve been given enough hints as to a traumatic incident in his past that’s made him so gun-shy about taking responsibility for someone, and I want to know what that is—partly for curiosity’s sake but really mostly to be able to see Joon-mo in a more sympathetic light. I know he has good reasons for being, as Seung-chan, cowardly about his feelings for Ye-jin. But until I know what they are, I can’t give him that sympathy. Help ME help YOU, won’t you?

I don’t know that the end of the episode is that much of a cliffhanger, though, because I don’t feel like it’s quite the right setup to indicate a choice of the heart. So far he’s 100 percent in Ye-jin’s camp, so if he were to go to her, there’s no surprise in leaving Cindy waiting. And if he were to go to Cindy instead, it reasonable to presume that the injured girl in the rain trumps the one safely indoors.

I feel for Cindy enough that I keep wishing for Seung-chan to see her as she wants him to, for her sake more than anything. And every time he doesn’t, it pinches my heart for her, because she’s opening up and emerging into the world, like that bird bursting from its eggshell that served as a metaphor in the previous episode, and the person who brought her out may not be the person who can walk with her on these new paths she’s finding. But maybe that’s fine—maybe that’s the point, and maybe she needs to find a way to walk on her own first. Maybe Seung-chan isn’t the endgame for her, but the catalyst to get her caring again about taking control over her own life again and loving herself and figuring out what her true self is.

Cindy’s always the one stealing glances at the others, and when she “wins” an argument or gets to keep face publicly, it always feels like somehow she’s still the loser because the others have each other to turn to at the end of the day. It’s why I loved how they explored Cindy’s character with the manufactured friend visit, turning a cameo appearance into something narratively meaningful. I liked how Cindy defended it to Seung-chan, calling Ara a friend she’s just not that friendly with. On one level it’s a big ole sham to present the two as buddies when they’re clearly acting, but on another level, they understand each other in a way that others don’t; it’s their similarities that pitted them against each other as youngsters, but maybe that’ll be their bond now as adults, an understanding that perhaps means more than regular house visits or false smiles for the camera.

Also, I feel like Mystery Girl (the first 'Cindy') was JM's previous love at some point. They're building her up so I'm pretty sure she has a big connection to him and why he's so afraid of acknowledging his feelings for YJ and taking responsibility. He probably couldn't take responsibility for her and it ended tragically or something. Interestingly enough, other commenters are hypothesizing that Mystery Girl/JM might be a mirror to Cindy/BSC, the top star and the PD, with the former crashing and burning. Seems like it might turn out that way!

Ok for me, I just don't see SC and YJ happening at this point without it seeming a little forced. I never saw it happening at all actually. It's just too one sided on SC's part. We've been through 8 episodes and it is clear that YJ's feelings still go to JM. Even though SC's crush is super adorable and cute (because he gets so happy when he sees her) it's still not enough to make me ship that couple since YJ doesn't even seem to acknowledge him as a potential boyfriend. Because of that, yeah I found his crush cute, but not the ship itself. She just seems to think of him as an adorable little puppy lol. I was never on board with this one. Sorry KSH, I was rooting on you getting the girl you wanted(with a heavy heart) in Dream High, but not here.

So I've been shipping the umbrella couple since the beginning and I just don't know at this point. Tbh, if Cindy and SC have an open ended relationship type thing I wouldn't mind. Because even with that ending, I don't see it as 'Let me choose who's the most important' because clearly he's still head over heels for YJ. Although I think the kiss with Cindy made him feel some type of way. But more than them, JM and YJ need to get moving. To me, that ship comes first as I see it as the most important. JM needs to do something. I can't wait until we hear about the situation that went down. I actually do like JM's character and I don't like how little screen time he's been getting. I love SC, but come on. Lately it's like the show's all about, who gets SC in the end. I'm very interested in Cindy's story though. The more I see of her real side, the more I like.

So yeah, JM and YJ are the only couple that I can see realistically getting together. Over anything, I want them to work things out. Come on JM! Let's hope we hear the backstory next week!

And I agree with some comments here, Cindy needs to learn how to love herself first and maybe she will get that out of a relationship with SC. Even if it's just a friendship. I felt for her after she broke down crying in her room after that convo with SC.

I hope all four remain friends though!! They make a great group. I'm all for the friendship between YJ and Cindy, seems like it'll be fun :D

And SC...he just needs to find someone that will reciprocate his feelings for once. You should be like your noona and take a break from PD's xD Or noonas in general.

As for the ending, I interpreted it as a continuation of SC and JM's convo in the office earlier. Like JM blocked SC's shot (which is what I was hoping for) as to say he's not letting go of YJ that easily and he knows more than what SC assumes of him.

I agree with everything you said. The most realistic couple in the end is JM and YJ. Doing otherwise would seem too forced unless the writer can convincingly show in the next 4 episodes that YJ likes SC, which I doubt. Because yes YJ and SC are cute and they do have chemistry but it seems more like her seeing him as this dependable, kind, and adorable puppy.

Here's to hoping that the writer will not mess things up and pull things out of thin air. It would be better if at the end, it's all about friendship and finding themselves and being stronger individuals. :)

Agree, Tatiana. I think SC & Cindy will finally be friend.

Following the episode 8, SC will go to Cindy, however, Cindy just want to tell him she realise she need to love herself and to understand more about herself before loving other person, this will hit SC a little starting to think about his feeling to Cindy.

And for YJ, as YJ can't see SC at the theatre, she worry about his safety and recognise SC do have a place at her heart, thus start to think about the relationship between SC, JM and herself. This will lead JM to step forward to recognise his love to YJ though it is bounded by his history with the mystery girl 5 years ago.

I think there is so much to come for cindy's character development. The one who will be helping her will be RJM I thinK. There's reason behind RJM's cowardness and I think it is related to topstar girl who ceo byun used to promote before cindy came in. There's something connection with that mystery girl, RJM and ceo byun. I don't know what happened to that girl but I think cindy might be going that girl's way but RJM will take her
out.

Anyway I love how BSc and cindy are so direct and sincere about the feelings.eventhough BSC'S doubting about cindy's kiss made cindy painful but I think it is needed for her character development. I hope cindy find herself.

Up until now, I still don't think that yejin will ever fall for seungchan since he's just like a cute little brother to her. Not to mention the fact that she's been in love with joonmo for like, what, 25 years? Honestly I think joonmo-yejin will be end game provided IF joonmo finally wakes up and goes for the girl!

Whereas for seungchan, what he should be focusing on is how to be a successful PD in the future! That's what I wanna see in the end, at least show that he's getting better at what he does and not lose his sincere self in the middle.

For Cindy, I just want her to learn to love herself more and be more open and sincere to the others around her. And maybe, who knows, she'll find someone that she loves that will love her back. And that person can either be seungchan or someone else. (As much as I think Cindy and seungchan make an adorable couple!) andddddd Please let Cindy and yejin be BFFs in the end!

4 more episodes, producer, you can do this!

I actually like how there's a contrast when it come to Seungchan's interactions with both ladies. Seungchan is honest and direct with Cindy and because of that I usually find their conversations quite meaningful and deep. Whereas with Yejin, he kinda tends to do things just to get praise and acceptance from her just like the puppy he is.

ICAM. I love SC interaction with Cindy because they actually have meaningful conversations. I can't imagine SC explaining to YJ what that book passage meant to him. But with Cindy he just opened up and showed his true self.

SC interactions with YJ is cute puppy love interaction. I adore him with her. He mostly compliments her and listens to her problems. Of course YJ eats that up. But I don't think she has ever showed an interested in SC the person.

I just came here to point out that the PDs messed the editing up when Cindy checked her phone. The first time she checked it in bed the time was 6.10pm, and after awhile when she was colouring she checked it again and it was 5.54pm. Don't think it was a separate day either because she was wearing that dress.

I don´t quite agree about the epilogue, i think it was executed pretty well. Considering Seung Chan´s competitive nature in the game, mostly due to Ye Jin watching, it was the safest assumption that he scored the penalty, especially since Ye Jin complimented him right after they cut away. But the fact that Joon Mo was also competitive enough to give his all and block the shot is symbolic of him being braver about Ye Jin now. The entire epilogue felt like Seung Chan saying "you are too cowardly, move over" while Joon Mo blocking it and saying "you are hundreds year too early, this is my space". So Joon Mo winning that duel might also be symbolic of the future of the love quadrangle but we will see.

+1 i was just gonna say that.
maybe i read too much into it, but i think there must be a reason why they put it in an epilogue. joonmo defending his goal looks like a foreshadowing of what he will do when seungchan decides to make a move on yejin.

i'm not sure who's endgame anymore. i was skeptical about yejin-seungchan but this ep i started to see their chemistry and i don't really mind it.

but this ep just sealed my love for cha tae hyun, as well as his character. so yeah, #justiceforrajoonmo would be a good hashtag.

Both female leads deserve to be a man's first choice. Why should such incredible women end up with men that wait so long to finally make up their mind? And are we really going to forgive Baek Seung Chan if he falls in love for the third time in term of weeks? Joon Mo should be the one helping Cindy to overcome what seems like a depression and at the same time get rid of his own guilt over the yet undisclosed episode of the other girl.

"And are we really going to forgive Baek Seung Chan if he falls in love for the third time in term of weeks?"

I laughed at this! Yes, if the story ends up with him liking and pursuing Cindy as well then that makes it three girls for him since he entered KBS and that is just absurd.

Honestly for me (just my opinion), SC suddenly ditching his first noona and liking YJ right after, I'm like whut? He followed his first noona after graduation and ditched his future in the law world to be able to work closely with her and then when she's gone he simply moved on to YJ. Oh well, he said he liked her for her looks so... hehehe! I'm rambling, but I just wanted to point out that the line you wrote made me laugh. :)

Do you guys remember in episode 2, the scene when Seung Chan was taking trash bags out and he bumped into Hae Joo. When Hae Joo said she was there to meet his boyfriend Ra PD, Seung Chan's face turned sour.

Later he said to the camera,"I can move on fairly quickly if I feel it's not working out...". He even wished the two of them happiness. Though later he pulled that petty jealousy thing by hanging the trash bags on Joon Mo's side mirrors.. LOL! He said he 'is after all just human'

But that's just to show how pragmatic he is (or to show that he hasn't found a true love yet ... hahahaaa)

So, I won't be surprised if he can move on to fall for another person after Ye Jin be truthful about her real feelings for him. Just need one scene for Ye Jin to do that and I hope it will be in the next episode, if not, this endless puppy crush thing will drag on... hahhh...(sighing...)

Last night I re-watched Episode 3. Gosh I hate Ye Jin in this episode. She is a total jerk! The way she manipulated Seung Chan, trying to pay him less, then took advantage of him by asking him to buy things for her (using the money that she used to pay for the car damage!) only to criticize him later for not getting her instructions right.

Aigoo...! I can't stand her character in that episode, which makes me wonder so much how in the world could the writer made Seung Chan "has a huge crush on TYJ". In fact, in this episode Seung Chan had even said (when he was drunk) that YJ is old, has bad personality...

At least, if the writer changed YJ's personality to become better then it would be understandable but so far, YJ is still YJ. Even when Seung Chan suggested that the payment is done in a different form, she still took the advantage, agreeing only after Seung Chan agreed to give 20% discount.

Aigoo...aigoo....!

Agree, still not convinced why SC would fall in love with her. The explanation I can give is that SC mixed-up pity with love. He pity YJ for her unrequited love towards MJ.

True! very true!

I guess that's why he confronted Joon Mo to ask if JM was okay about YJ going to the setup blind date. I mean, if he really wants to win YJ from JM, why bother ask JM? Why bother accusing JM of being a coward etc..etc...

I think he just feels pity but he thinks it is 'love'. I think the truth is, Seung Chan has never experienced the real 'love'.

I don't think so. I think SC will go to Cindy, but Cindy just want to tell him she need to love herself at least and can stand up on her own.

On the other side, YJ starts to worry about SC's safety due to his absent, which cause herself to think about SC's position in her heart.

I really like to read all the posts from you guys, you make me seeing another prospective from this drama, what's the messages the writer intend to deliver, as for a "just-watch" kdrama fan like me i often missed many important things from behind a scene. But i do agree that this drama just goes to be a regular rom-com kdrama, too much focus on love triangle between 4 leads, while they said from beginning that they wanted us to see how a producer do their jobs, but for the last 4 episodes i think they forgot what was the title of this drama. It is PRODUCER! Not love triangle! For example, we saw yj did her job as a producer in ep 1, but for the rest episodes she looked like someone who just came to office in the morning, mumbling around, and went home without did something important. And we still dont see how bsc grows to love his job as a PD without a title noona's crush, he entered the PD world in order pursuing his first noona, than he just changed his crush to another noona as he realized his first noona didnt loved him back, what if yj doesnt love him back too? Will he quick from his job as a PD? There are many holes to fill with just 4 episodes left.

I don’t want to admit this because I want Seung Chan to go with Ye Jin, but I think your prediction is right.

I also have some predictions roaming in my mind right now though;

1. Seung Chan will call Manager Oppa to pick up Cindy.
2. Since Joon Mo is on his way home, he will see Cindy and will accompany her in his house.
3. Seung Chan will call Joon Mo to ask for a favor if he can accompany Cindy for awhile since Joon Mo is on his way home and then Seung Chan will go to Ye Jin.

but then, yeah…you’re prediction is somewhat close to reality because Seung Chan cares to Cindy too, I think he will choose to go back to see Cindy (It is also the humane thing to do since its raining outside he will surely be a gentleman since Ye Jin is in a safer place). (And maybe this will be the best time to talked on what happened to them in the amusement park).

Well, what are your other predictions anyway?

I think seunghcha does care for cindy. His soft look for cindy when she was singing, recalling kiss and turning cindy's faced shampoo. I think he is still confused. Why would he ask cindy if kiss was sincere or not? I mean if he didn't like cindy he could have rejected her straight. Why should it matter if her kiss was sincere or not?

Cindy is my favorite character, but I think it's too late in the game for Seung Chan to change. He acts giddy every time Ye Jin is with him and petty every time Ye Jin is with someone else. Their noraebang face-off was gold, as was his promptly stuffing his egg in his mouth just so he wouldn't have to give it to Hong Soon. Though Cindy does weigh on his mind, since he remembered to move his face forward when taking pictures with women.

Go Ara was a delight to watch. "Your CEO asked me to come because you have no friends." How sad that she was also talking about herself. Idols debuting that young really have no chances to make friends since they're always absent from school. Yang Mi's dry soccer commentary was hilarious. Seung Chan has never learned social cues. Thanks for the recap, javabeans!

I was so impressed by the last ep. But its becoming very apparent that the plot is dragging. Where's the variety show? The writers seem to be trying to give out fan service in this ep. And im really not liking the ambiguity of the love lines. Its as if the show is playing with us. So im realizing that the show has become a little unbalanced. Its inconsistent in truth. That's disappointing too considering how impressed I was by the last ep. We have FOUR more eps show! Whatever happened to the plot? At this rate maybe 12 eps are really too much.

I never really cared for IU until The Producers but girl has really ran away with my heart now. My favorite scenes from Ep 8:
1) Go Ara's video message & Cindy adding her to her friend list
2) Cindy scolding BSC for their selfie
3) The developing friendship bet. YJ & Cindy
4) Cindy watching BSC from her car window (with a voice over of her reading a couple of lines from Demian)
5) BSC calling out Cindy for her sincerity

Really disappointed with the story arc for JM's character. (CTH shines in every scene that he's in.) But I do feel that all will be revealed next week with regard to the mystery girl that he wasn't able to protect & his feelings for YJ. JM & YJ should really be together & it would be a huge let down, at least for me, if it doesn't happen since, as many of you have already said, a lot of crumbs has already been laid out. There's just too much history between the two of them.

We could probably expect more from the Umbrella Couple since the 1N2D team is planning on a Notting Hill type angle for them in their next episode. However, I don't think a boyfriend is what Cindy needs at this point. Ice Queen Little Miss Perfect is just starting to genuinely experience the world on her own. (Maybe if she gets dumped by BSC she could use this to come up with a Taylor Swift sort of kind of album, who knows.) But it's great that both see each other for who they really are. Cindy feels protected by BSC & appreciates his insight while BSC sees through Cindy's facade & understands how broken she really is.

I do love the idea though of an open ending bet. BSC & Cindy. Both are still young & just coming out of their respective shells. Both have a lot of growing up to do. BSC might either end up as a sucessful PD after all or could just as well leave being a PD & go back to being a prosecutor. I kinda find it lame that BSC became a PD just because of his noona crush.

Don't know it means anything but if SC decide not to to YJ , as her mobile is turned off and it's raining so she may get into some trouble??? If it happens then JM will come to help and SC may think Cindy responsible ( ouch ... Which is bad actually)

And if he goes to YJ, Cindy may get sick. She already has a leg injury then standing in rain. Then SC may feel bad for her .... Don't know :/

Wow, what in depth analysis. My thoughts were much more simplistic. We have a noona-apprentice romance as another one-sided love, Cindy the idol (a reference to the character of the writer's previous work in YFAS) being portrayed as positively as possible, even great in housekeeping so the domestic audiences would vote for the "according-to-age-coupling". And I found the epilogue simply an hommage to the Champion's League final with the insinuation "yes, I'm interested and I can read your moves". A goal-keeper must read the mind of the player who's hitting the penalty.

What disappoints me so much is that neither love line of BSC's is being built up in a very worthy way. They've dragged it on without much development, which makes it hard for me to see how either love line is going to be ultimately satisfying and fully believable. The connection he has with both women is something that is being played up a lot, and I wish the writers would stop that. I think this drama would be better if the writers weren't going for this ambiguous love line concept :(

On BSC ... mmm. I feel that all clues point to him ending up with Cindy, even if it means an open ending or a time skip at the end showing them meeting after they've matured. I'm firmly confident in them being endgame, but its a matter of the drama focusing less on his crush, pls. It needs to speed uuup.

His crush on YeJin ... I feel like its not exactly the same as the noona crush he has before buuuut the thing is, his crushes have been directing his path in life and he's never made truly free decisions on his own. His previous crush lead him to the producer path, and his crush on Ye Jin, whilst in some ways healthier (not liking for looks) is still influencing the decisions he makes at the workplace. I think the positive thing about the possibility of him falling for Cindy is that theyre not in the same field. They can support each other whilst growing and functioning independantly, whilst their connection in the industry would help them understand each other.

Maybe there won't be any couples at the end of the drama. You are going into this with the expectation that it'll turn out like every kdrama. The lack of development or certainty in either love line is not a problem if no one ends up with anyone, or if it is left completely open.

Nah. It feels like there's bound to be pairings at the end with all this focus away from the producer-life and on the romance. Though at the same time, an open ending is a possibility and it would be the most realistic end if they were to keep all the lovelines dragging on as they are now. Buuut the focus on the lovelines leads me to strongly believe that the writers are aiming for couples. If they aren't, it's a hell of a lot of waste of screentime on cutesy romantic moments that lead nowhere.

I actually really liked this episode, and didn't find it to be any draggier than any of the others (honestly, I've felt every episode went a bit longer than necessary - this one was just more of the same). In fact, although the epilogue had a bit less of a punch than previous endings, I still thought it was relevant and insightful: Like others have pointed out, it's a metaphor for the love triangle, and Joon-mo's way of "stepping up to the plate" in regards to Yejin.

If Seung-chan had somehow managed to make that goal, I feel like the love-lines definitely would've shifted, but since he didn't, I think it's clear who the end-games are: Yejin and Joon-mo, and Seung-chan and Cindy.

When Cindy was talking to her manager when he informed her of the "Best Friend" film crew having arrived, thought that IU's voice sounded like Go Ara's (at points) in "Reply 1994" - being low and husky, which ended up being pretty funny when GA ended up being the "bestie."

Think the PD and writer have been impressed by KJK's acting, as he's been getting more screen time (still funny seeing him playing a total brown-nose and whiner).

Funny that they played the Chariots of Fire theme by Vangelis since it was also played when GHJ guested on RM (she and KJK seem so chummie and comfortable when they are on the screen together).

Cindy has been living in the past for so long over her parents' death, but SC has got her on the path to finally live for the now and the future.

Like that the maknae Music Bank writer still busts on Ye-jin and like that the writer still has Cindy being "Cindy" at times and not being a totally different person.

The guys at the athletic event went gaga over the maknae/bratty MB writer, but eh - that one writer for 1N2D is far more attractive.

I'm seriously praying so hard that Ye-jin x Seung chan ship will be the endgame. Honestly, I don't see any way for the writers of the series to keep the YJ-JM and Umbrella couple loveline without making it look too forced.

I guess Joon-mo and Yejin may tho, and honestly, with Yejin not showing any noteworthy reactions towards Seungchan's I almost lost hope. But her cute, giddy smile while looking at her picture with him after the soccer match, I felt HOPE.

Damn it, this is the only drama that I've watched making me crazy bc of the mysterious lovelines and endgame.

To be honest... I dislike the Cindy development in this episode. The way she called SC out towards the end of the episode is exactly how stars pride themselves to be, - I dun care what schedule you have right now, just drop everything and come to me.

Its polite to ask someone out in advance and see if they are willing to come out isn’t it? I know if I was SC, I would be a little peeved that she simple made a call, informed him that she’s at his place, hang up and just expected him to cancel whatever plans on hand to rush to her. Its kind of immature and spoilt.

I’m not on any ship and objectively the two young stars do look better together but the way they are painting her character now, its not sweet but clingy. Theres a reason why the boy has noona fetish. He has always preferred stronger women and derives a lot of joy from their affirmation.

I live in Korea and the sentiments towards the show and IU is not positive. A lot of korean viewers dislike her in general and also theres still a huge stigma attached to idols turned actors as they are taken a lot less seriously due to the the huge disparity in separating actors and singers as performers.

I am not surprised if the endgame is SC-YJ and they play out the current trend of younger men older women that is the rage in the korean entertainment industry right now (Baek JiYoung and her husband/ Han Hye Jin & Ki Sun Yong etc).

I wish they had written Cindy’s role a little better. Not “I have a sob story so I deserve better” I agree with the commentators that first she needs to love herself. Without loving herself, its hard to love someone else without emotionally drying him out.

I actually liked Cindy's character development, up until when she called Seung-chan and hanged up just like that. I dislike the general sentiment idols turn actors, especially in this case when IU has been doing incredibly well in portraying Cindy. It's very clear to me when Cindy is Cindy and IU is IU, and "both of them" have made me feel for Cindy so much. And I will hate it even more if they decide to turn Cindy to a pathetic character just because "IU isn't supposed to act since she's an idol". That's unfair through and through. I will never be able to understand if they pair Seung-chan and Ye-Jin together and leave Joon-mo and Cindy out. I just don't see the point in that. Personally, I will feel like they waste a potential great show.

Cindy is getting annoying to me. If it were not for the fact that her parents passed away, I would have little sympathy for her. Her personality sucks. She clearly understands her celebrity status and uses it.... Her entitlement is a big turnoff.

Yes, she barely had a normal childhood, however, in the meantime, she becomes an idol, she has fame, money and opportunities most young people her age don't have. I get that it can be a lonely life sometimes, but life is about trade-offs.

I personally think she is not good enough for SC. She is shallow and needs to grow up.

I like SC with Ye-Jin, but let's face, it is kind of forced too... Ye-jin's fixation on money make me eyeroll

Joo- mo and Ye-jin seem like the only plausible endgame

I'd like the show to move beyond love lines...and give the characters some more dimensions

@Kdrama: I don't think Cindy knows how else she should live. She's gotten famous when she was very young and she's used to being pleased. Nobody contradicts her since she does her job properly and brings in money. Nobody's close to her either, in such a competitive environment like that and everything is about business. She lives in a bubble, she doesn't particularly care about anything because everything is a routine and everyone is more or less the same. Until Seung-chan came around and showed her that there's another kind of life, that people are different and there are good people too. And for the first time since forever, she cares and she yearns for more. She needs to grow up, yes, but it takes time. Even for normal people, it takes time to understand themselves and we don't even know ourselves completely. Cindy has been used to this "bad girl" image of her, she doesn't even know who she really is. That's the conversation she had with Seung-chan. She didn't believe she was a good person, until Seung-chan told her that. He told her the things nobody ever cared enough to tell her. She had a heavy burden in her heart through all these years and finally somebody was kind enough to tell her she did well, it wasn't her fault, so that she could really start living for herself instead of paying for the price she thought she was responsible of. It broke my heart when Seung-chan was in doubt of her sincerity, but I'm kind of glad now Seung-chan understands her more. It's a realization moment to him, too.

I wouldn't say who is less deserving than who. I think we don't classify things like that in love. I keep my opinion that Seung-chan and Cindy are perfect for each other, in the sense that they are really honest with each other and they complement each other well. Cindy needs healing and Seung-chan has nurturing nature. Cindy needs to learn how to break her shells, Seung-chan is straightforward in pointing things out yet gentle and attentive at the same time. I also like to see Seung-chan to be loved the most as a capable man he is, instead of seeing him chasing others and be seen as a puppy/younger brother. I know Cindy should know how to love herself first and foremost, but it would be great if Seung-chan and Cindy could make it after being independent and successful on their own.

@agoodheart, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Could BSC and Cindy eventually get together after their independent growth and success, of course, that will be great! But right now, it seems to be a "fixer" and "being fixed" situation, not a good beginning for a relationship. it may happen in a drama, but in real life, it rarely happens. Good, healthy relationships are formed based upon equality, mental and emotional. That is why I don't think either BSC/Cindy or BSC/YJ setup works.

I like this drama a lot, so I am really intrigued to see how the characters develop... (BSC has growing up to do himself, to be clear...)

@Kdrama

Hm I think we're agreeing, I'll just clarify a little bit.

I'm not quite sure about the "fixer" and "being fixed" situation. At first glance, it seems Cindy needs Seung-chan more; but the more I see it, the more it appears to me that Seung-chan learns when he's with Cindy, too. They bring out the best from each other and at the same time aren't afraid of pointing out what the other should be done better, this way they can both grow and and save troubles down the road (no illusions to be misunderstood). This can be a very good foundation actually.

At this point Cindy isn't firmly grounded with her mentality, but Seung-chan already saw in her a good person that she herself, or anyone else, didn't know of or believe in. He saw qualities in her that others don't, so I believe the more he watches her, the more he will realizes about her and about people in general. It isn't impossible for him to fall for her.

But yes, it's certainly better if they both grow up first before getting together. That way they will get a better hang of the relationship. It pains me to think Cindy will need to go through everything without Seung-chan, nothing will be able to compare with the strength and motivation coming out of love, but I think it's better that way for her development. And true, Seung-chan has his share of growing up for himself to do, too.

Wow. That was beautifully put. Yes - they really are perfect for each other! +1000

In case of YJ too, I did not anything to like about her until the accident, further she felt sympathetic to Cindy and took her home, Cindy too felt bad and took a step to minimize the fan outrage. If I am not mistaken, Go Ara and Cindy were made rivals by their agencies.

BSC too not is perfect, even no one is perfect. But I agree I too hate it when Cindy called SC, though we don't know the reason yet.

Cindy wouldn't be Cindy w/o being the petulant, demanding idol.

Having her change completely just b/c she spent 2 days w/ Ye-jin, JM and SC would have been ridiculous and having her all of a sudden be the all-around "nice" girl would be incredibly boring (don't know why so many want characters to be the boring, super-nice type w/o any flaws which, you know, actually makes them human?).

That's why Cindy saying good-bye the way she did (making Ye-jin grumble) was perfect; still a bit of the old Cindy, but she showed her appreciation to YJ in another way (taking the selca of the two of them and posting it up - thanking her so her fans would do a 180 on YJ).

Cindy is a bit emotional/social stunted having been an idol/trainee since the age of 13 (but seemingly not as bad as SC - who took her advice to hear and stepped forward in his selca w/ YJ).

Still feel really bad for Cindy's manager who not only has to wait hand and foot on Cindy's demands but is usually on the receiving side of CEO Byun's wrath.

Well to be fair and from an unbiased point of view, I think all the characters are immature. Not just cindy. Lol. But that's what makes them human I guess.

And really? I have a friend in korea and she mentioned that iu is pretty much well-loved there in general. Sure its more for her singing but still well-loved. Its only the netizens who are hiding behind their computers that are hating on her. But anyways, why does it matter whether the public likes her or not? If dramas were to be written based on feedback then that would be really crappy of the writer.

It makes me feel sad to think that people are watching dramas these days with completely biased glasses. & that writers do not have much creative freedom because for some reason the viewers think they have the power to control everything...

Yes, IU is well loved and respected - for a singer. Koreans are still not that open to crossovers and thats why its hard to name one A list actor or actress in the Korean scene that is given kudos to their acting props and came from an idol background.

There’s practically none. Hallyu stars yes, acclaimed actors - no. Even Yoochun though he’s been getting acting accolades is not really an A-list actor yet in Korea but he’s the closest to the successful crossover.

Acting is seen as a very serious craft here. I think we should respect that just as actors don’t try become singers overnight (Lee Minho etc) and hence vice versa for singers to enter into the acting arena.

@Jana & @rhea

I'm also sad to see the bias affects the dramas so much, especially when it turns for the worse. I respect that acting is seen as a very serious craft, but it shouldn't matter too much when an idol is serious about the work and does it exceedingly well. I don't like it when the netizens have too much power and interfere with the flow of the drama, all the more so when many of them are dedicated to hate just for the sake of hating, unreasonably.

I hope they're not going to push down Cindy to lift up Seung-chan/Ye-jin's relationship. That will be mean. Sad for Joon-mo, too. And generally unfair for all four characters.

She didn't demand him to come, what was sweet about it was she said " I have something to say" he said sorry i have an appointment and she said "I'll wait" Meaning until whatever your doing is over or however long you take. He can go to Ye Jin see the movie come home and see her she'll still be waiting.

OMG REALLY??? That puts it into a whole new perspective then!!! I thought it was slightly selfish of her, but put that way, it's so sweet. Damn. Now it will really show something about how much BSC cares for her if he chooses her over seeing his crush.

...except that puts him on her schedule anyway, so it's not any less selfish. Is he really going to go through with his plans in peace if in the back of his mind he knows a top star is going to be sitting there waiting for him the entire time? Maybe if they were actually friends outside of work--and if his work didn't oblige him to keep her happy--it would be appropriate. But this is Dramaland, so I suppose it's kosher as per rom com rules, where all sorts of ridiculous ultimatums are delivered at all hours of the day (hey, at least they didn't mysteriously take off during the work day to hash things out! Though on the flip side she's encroaching on his personal life/time off, which, not so cool).

It's not sweet to tell someone "come now, I'm going to stand in the rain until you appear" and then hang up the phone.

She has no idea what he's doing. He might have to work overnight. He might be on the way to another part of Korea to check out another location shoot, possibly a drive of several hours. Or he might just be having dinner with some friends, which she would be rudely interrupting. In fact, he is having a date with a friend, which she is rudely interrupting.

She is expecting him to drop everything without giving him a chance to respond. That's a one-sided, selfish demand with zero consideration of the other person, not a conversation between two equals. It fits with her persona as a star that thinks everyone has to do everything at her bidding, but I very much hope that Seung-chan also reacts in-character, and sends someone else to pick her up but continues on with his own business with the person he currently likes.

Thank you for pointing that out.

When I read the comments above, I was confused.

I got the same understanding too, that Cindy didn't force Seung Chan to abruptly stop whatever he was doing and come rushing to meet her. I heard it clearly that she said it's alright, do whatever you want to do first. I will still wait here for you (no matter how long it takes).

Which means, Seung Chan can go on to meet YJ at the cinema, watch the movie, have dinner or whatever.

That's the same way I saw it. It matched with what she said to him at the amusement park as well. It's not like it was raining when she called or that she knew it was going to start raining. How many times did BSC push his way into YJ and JM's before they actually started including him? He slept at the apt. twice without an invite either time and everyone said that was cute. He's called JM a coward, told Cindy she was fake, and tried to stop YJ from going on a blind date. But all that was cute. The girl called and said she would wait, but she's rude and annoying.

Honestly, I still can't see how yejin will fall for seungchan at this point or even in the future. I mean, her 20 years of friendship and love with joonmo gotta mean something right? She can't just change her heart like that. For now, he just looks as seungchan as a adorable little brother and I think that's all she felt so far.

Whereas for seungchan, I do agree that he has the tendency to fall for his noonas. His history of liking the pretty noona for a few years (just because she's pretty) and even changing his occupation just for her shows that he's the kind of person who is loyal to that one person when he's in love (maybe not, just when he's crushing on someone hahaha). So yeah, we'll wait and see whether this is yet another crush of his or not.

Cindy is a character that I really really treasure right now. She may not be the nicest person in the world but she do have a kind heart, deep down. I mean, she at least took up the responsibility to make it clear that yejin didn't hurt her intentionally! Plus, This poor girl had no parents since she's 13 and all the qualities that she's learning is from those who's around her, and who are those people? The scary director Byun. We can't really blame her for being the person that she is right now. I just hope right now, she'll open up more, to whoever, but it seems like she's opening up more to seungchan as she does not have other friends already. I hope she'll find and know who she is by the end of this series. It'll suck if the relationship between her and seungchan became bad just because he doesn't like her or anything. At least let them be friends! That'll be enough! As much as I hope they'll be together in the end, I have a feeling that they'll all just end up as friends. :(

I also agree that I can't see Ye-jin with Seung-chan. Ye-jin subconsciously rejected all other guys because of Joon-mo; and it wasn't like she was treated badly or anything, it was simply because they weren't Joon-mo.

Cindy is precious. She has the kind of depth that is really her own and the kind heart that even she herself didn't know it. I suddenly think of the moment when she spoke up for Manager Oppa in the hospital. With the kind of life she's having though, she's powerless. I have the feeling that the way she's oblivious toward others could partly come from the fact that she knows even if she cares, she wouldn't be able to change anything. It's like a shield to protect her from being hurt seeing others being hurt. I think she will face against CEO Byun at some point. I'm scared for her knowing her career is everything she has right now, so I hope she makes some friends before that. I hope the other three - Joon-mo, Ye-jin, Seung-chan - will be there for her. I hope she has strength to create her own happiness.

Previous episode I kinda let it go BUT May someone tell me what is the connection between being PD and understanding love line ? Well if you are WGM PD then true but, I think it would have been more proper or should I say honest, to say " understanding who should a PD advertise " " at first it is matter of making decisions but at the end depends on what audience want " ?? Sigh... At least I agree that it was relief to see our leads being sincere about their feelings.

Even though the writer seemed to try connecting the title of the chapter with the 2D1N PDs/writers trying to matchmake Seung Chan with Cindy for the sake of the season's concept, still it's kind of weird to think that CP Kim Tae Hae wrote a chapter on "understanding love lines" for his book on how to become a PD.. hahahaaaa...

I sorta disagree with "the epilogue being irrelevant" thing , because this time the epilogue has an underlying meaning.
I think it implies that Seung-Chan's words (the ball) for Joon-Mo regarding Ye-Jin's date have been well received and digested by Joon Mo. It means that Joon-Mo's attitude won't be idle anymore towards Ye-Jin

I think the soccer game was relevant for more than just the relationship aspect. It showed that BSC isn't only oblivious to other people's feelings, but even when made aware of them he sticks with his own agenda. His teammates told him not to try to score, but he did anyway. That's not honesty and integrity that's selfishness.
He knows Ye Jin loves Joon mo, but he's still scheming to get in there. He made a drunken confession to Joon mo, but he's never told Ye Jin how he feels--the same thing he accused Joon mo of doing. He completely ignored and forgot about Cindy's confession, and when Ye Jin reminded him about her, he still shrugged it off. Then he stays behind to talk to her--not about her confession, but about what he sees as her character flaws. By the end of the episode his aww shucks smile was no longer cute. He has a bunch to say, but he doesn't actually take responsibility for any of it. I don't like his character arc at this point.

I feel like Seung-chan is easy to read and yet not. I agree with the general view that his relationship with Hae-joo was extremely shallow and his relationship with Ye-jin is based on a deeper understanding, but he did leave a possibly cushy legal job to be a variety PD (a field that he clearly had no real knowledge about, although he's been feeling it out well with his penchant for in-depth research). He literally gave up a bright career and three (four? five? I'm not sure how long law school is in Korea, but it's usually three years post undergrad) years of his life, and not to mention the money spent on that education, just to be near Hae-joo. And he literally cried in the bathroom when he first found out about Joon-mo/Hae-joo. I can understand it's easy to dismiss that relationship because the show largely played it for laughs, but I'm curious about what it says about Seung-chan's character in general and how his actions and are to be interpreted because I really haven't seen it discussed in most meta I've read about him.

I have to admit I am baffled by what the central conceit of the show is. I've read many comments over the course of the series about how it would be okay for Seung-chan to not end up with anyone and that his arc should be about being a successful PD, but, based on the show till now, eight episodes in, I think that Seung-chan becoming a highly successful PD in the course of the four or so episodes that are left is as unlikely as Seung-chan believably falling for Cindy, or Ye-jin believably falling for Seung-chan. His work life has been dominated by Ye-jin and Joon-mo, rather than actual work, and in this very episode he basically said the sports day is the very first thing he's enjoyed about it. He has an interesting take on the variety world, bringing in his earnestness to a world that lacks sincerity while selling itself as real, but it's vastly under-explored, and further, it hasn't made any actual dent in the plot. He suggested the 1N2D Idol Concept, and got Cindy, and that was the start, but canonically the ratings have been very low for their show (his very accurate prediction of 6.8), so it's hard to say that the idea worked out beautifully or was a huge hit. Further, we haven't really seen him engage with most aspect of being a PD, since about four episodes. And in the beginning too, his engagement was with things like getting food, so by this time we should have seen some progression, but we haven't. Further, he subscribes to the Joon-mo concept of real variety, and Joon-mo isn't a highly successful PD at all, thus we aren't even seeing a clash of ideologies there. So, while I would have loved his arc to be that of being a great PD, I'm not actually seeing that playing out on-screen, and I feel like stressing that while saying that the love-lines are secondary is something I'm not seeing in canon at all.

I'm guessing, by this time, the central conceit of the show is the romance,...

since that's practically the only angle in which there's been any progression (or, mostly no progression.) And honestly, I don't mind in the least. I've been loving the last two episodes (especially Cindy. Lately, the only professional progression and conflict we've seen is in her arc, which is ironic since the show is called "Producers"). I said all this while loving the show and Seung-chan, and constantly waiting for it each week. But I feel like the real-life workplace exploration etc., was left with the first two episodes and parts of the third and fourth, and transposing it into the narrative at this point, or telling the audience not to indulge in ship wars or whatever, it pretty much futile since there's nothing else really given to go on, and hope for the development for.

Required fields are marked *

But honestly, I have to say this again, considering he was willing to leave the legal field and spent years of his life in unrequited love with someone who didn't really remember him at all- what his actions mean as to what he feels about the person he's doing them for is practically inexplicable to me. Because regardless of what he might do for Ye-jin or Cindy (someday, hopefully, although it doesn't look like it's going that way and I'm so rueful about the wasted chemistry), I have to factor in those things he did for Hae-joo, all the while not being truly sincere about her, or in love with her (as majority of the comments seem to imply), and it's just such a vast gap to try and navigate.

Yes!! What he did (and he did so much leaving a potentially brighter future after investing so much in it! insane!) just to be near Haejoo which he said he liked only for her looks doesn't compute for me. So now, like you, I can't quite place his actions for Yejin and Cindy just yet aside from the obvious of him being nice and having a crush on Yejin.

Maybe he is indeed on deeper level with how he feels with Yejin than Haejoo before, but that's a very big difference on a short span of time. Like what other are saying, he seems to be easily swayed, which is why I do not see SC and YJ as the endgame.

Required fields are marked *

I'm going to chime in here since I'm one of the people who think it's possible that Seung-chan will be a successful PD and have an open ending with Cindy. It comes from the fact that at this point, I can't see him being with either Ye-jin or Cindy. Ye-jin has no one else in her eyes (romantically) other than Joon-mo; she subconsciously got out of all other relationships because of him so it is clear the one she wants and needs is Joon-mo, not anyone else no matter how good they are to her. Seung-chan may be a special person to her, yes, but he's simply not Joon-mo. He's in that zone that's "non-romance" to Ye-jin, just like how Cindy is to him. The only thing he wants to do for Cindy now is to not hurt her, it doesn't mean he has any special feelings toward her. And since Cindy already confessed her feelings, it's quite awkward now and anything he does for her from this point on will seem as if it comes out of pity - which is uneasy to watch, let alone make it to endgame. So my guess was that, Joon-mo figure out whatever it is that haunted him all this while and be with Ye-jin, while Seung-chan concentrates on his career which is being a PD at this moment. Well, he can change broadcast station, let time heals and meet Joon-mo and Ye-jin again at some point. It would be a waste if they can't be friends in the end. Or he can change back to become a prosecutor. Cindy ends her contract with CEO Byun, change her career (she now has enough money and time to learn whatever she wants and build her career on that), work on it, and meet him again also at some point. My point is that, most probably something huge is going to happen concerning what happened with Joon-mo which we still don't know about, the drama will then solve it, and those things I mentioned will be the glimpse at the very end after everything is solved. That's what I picture these 4 last episodes to be.

And if romance is really what he's going to get, I'm leaning more toward picturing Seung-chan with Cindy, since there are many things he didn't know about her while at the same time he saw in her the things others didn't. There are also subtle moments of his feelings toward her, although maybe he's too fixated on Ye-jin to be able to realize that. At least now he's not oblivious about her anymore, they just need more quality interactions. This depends a lot on the script though. I'm just afraid of the idol-actress level thing about IU from netizens that can affect the show (which to me is silly and weird. Like, how about Cha Tae-hyun? They're willing to leave Cha Tae-hyun/Joon-mo to the dust just because IU isn't at Kim Soo-hyun's level and therefore can't have him?).

Anyway, yeah, that's what I think. :)

mmm. I really love everything you said. Also, same -I don't see BSC becoming a successful PD as a plotline that the drama is trying to focus on at all, and therefore I don't think it would be at all important for his character development. I want to see him triumph, but I don't think he needs to triumph in becoming very successful as a PD (though this would definitely be awesome) His triumph should definitely root from gaining the respect he deserves from others. If this means becoming a great PD, that's fine. But I don't think it's the only way for him to become successful.

I guess it all leads down to tastes really. Who you ship is basically your own personal taste of what type of relationship you like.

Those who like those comfortable friend-like (someone who fully understand your ins and outs) and slowburn attraction type of relationships would prefer joonmo & yejin.

Those who like instant connection due to similarities and sorta cute hijinks with an adorable younger guy would prefer yejin & seungchan.

Those who like fated encounters with a dependable guy who you can have deep and meaningful conversations with and in a way get to grow through life lessons together would prefer seungchan & cindy.

As much as I like a dependable man, I think I prefer joonmo & yejin type of relationships because I guess its more relatable in real life. Its the most realistic. Sure its something we have seen been done over and over again. You may call it cliche. Dramas are cliche but so is life. Haha

Sorry for being very particular about usage of terms but why do I feel like some people seem to have a certain misconception with the term 'chemistry'? People tend to link 'chemistry' with how 2 actors look good together. Sure that is one superficial aspect of chemistry. However people seem to forget the real meaning of chemistry and another aspect of chemistry which is 'character chemistry'.

When some say that joonmo & yejin has no chemistry, that kinda had me scratching my head abit...

Because from my understanding of chemistry is that its a term to use when there's a complex emotional and psychological interaction between people. & romantic chemistry is a term to use to describe a mutual common bond or feelings between two people.

& that itself pretty much describes joonmo and yejin to me. They have chemistry because they're friends. They click. And most of their interactions have emotions involved.

That being said, they also have romantic chemistry because they have a bond and have mutual feelings for each other. Romantic feelings may I add.

I know that some may not like this pairing but to say that they don't have chemistry is sorta a lie. You may not see the so-called 'sparks' you're looking for between the actors but you can't deny that there's chemistry, and yes even romantic, between the characters itself.

I think there might be some people with not much understanding over the term 'chemistry' and is using it without much thought.

Yeah sorry but I just have to say it.

for me, there is definitely chemistry between tyj-rjm as well as tyj-bsc. I'm not that good describing it in words, but you can see through their eyes because eyes cant lie about what they feel... you can see through tyj's eyes that she loves rjm, as well as trough rjm's eyes.

those who want kiss scene between SC and YJ ... well there is a huge chance of it, as SC stepped forward while taking the pic, following Cindy's advice. He may also follow Cindy's way to confess.

I feel this drama need two episodes more to wrap up things, other than love lines, like SC will become a good PD or not?? will JM get success or not??Cindy will find her true self or not?
So far YJ has only dating problems

In four episodes we can get believable answers about Cindy's life, because it kept the balance. She was friendless, got a friend, she got her 1st crush, she rebelled against CEO, she was not social and sympathetic but now becoming one.... these are small steps heading to a good finish

but SC, he came for Hae Joo, then fall for YJ, at first his straight forwardness was working for him, but then his office work was mainly to follow YJ like puppy, and those foolish revenges. As a rookie PD no development at all

YJ never had very big problem in her working life, whatever it was with Cindy, resolved nicely. I have no complains

RJM he is the most neglected lead now, because everything is a mess for him now. his show got a bad rating .... then what happened God knows. only a small scene is shown that they were trying pair up Cindy-SC , his feelings for YJ are still not clear, why he and CEO Byun dont have good relation??? not answer yet. I would appreciate if they woudnt spend so much time after karaoke and football match and show us some office issues.

So disappointed in some of the commenters here. If you guys are gonna have a debate, about SHIPS of all things, then be respectful about it. Don't go calling people names and striking personal blows. Aren't we all a little too old for shipwars and mob mentalities lol?

That said, I'm also disappointed in how Joon Mo's development is being put to the back burner in favour of the YJ/BSC/Cindy love triangle. People complain a lot about Cha Tae Hyun not bringing anything new to the acting table, but what has the writer truly given him to do? We haven't seen any true insight into his feelings about Ye Jin, or why he's so adamant about not wanting to take that leap to the next stage of a relationship, or even anything else about his life/career (besides the first two eps with the cancellation of 1D2N and trying to lay it down gently to his cast that they're not coming back), only glimpses at best, so how can he show anything other than his usual funny guy persona? I'm going to be hopeful with his responsibility conversation with BSC that we're starting to get into that much needed insight. Hopefully the writers can use these remaining 4 episodes and 90 minutes per each one to fully develop him and the rest of the characters.

Exactly! people blame him for his character's underdevelopment. It's not fair to be honest. It's the writer's decision to cast him aside and spend the screentime on BSC and whoever's being paired up with him because of his popularity. It has turned into KSH show. And i thought it was a 4-main-lead drama.
Why did they bother to have CTH and then do something like this? He's a very nice and humble guy but I bet what's going on with his character in this show must have worried him ton.

One other thing I would like to clarify... I think Seung Chan’s idea of “pretty” is not just face value but his perception of the girl, her many facades, her goods and her bass and in that is his perception of “pretty”

I don’t think it meant it in a physical sense. He saw the sides to Haejoo all those years during college, followed her into the broadcast career, frankly if its just skin deep pretty, it would have been over in a week. No one quite stays obsessed with a face or a body for long, much less 5 years??

Same with Yejin. He saw her toughness, her saw her vulnerability, he saw her capability yet saw her weaknesses (JM). In all of that, his assessment is “pretty” despite her age, despite her pettiness, despite her shortcomings. Shallow? I think not. Probably deeper than most of the rest of the cast.
