Welcome to the new Dramabeans!

You may notice that things look a little different around here. We’ve been working really hard to bring you a cleaner, more responsive, more interactive experience, and are very excited to welcome you to the new Dramabeans!

Don’t worry—it’s still really the old Dramabeans, and all of our content is still here… somewhere… maybe in a new corner of the site. We know that we’ve gone into your living room and rearranged all of your furniture while you were out, so we’re here to guide you and tell you where we put all your stuff. We even got your some spiffy new stuff to go with it!

User accounts. You are now able to claim your usernames for good by registering with the site. If you are a longtime user, sign up with the email associated with your comments; we’re doing our best to link your old history to your new account. With your account, you can now create a profile and post things on your fan wall, and also track all the comments you’ve made. (You can still comment without creating a user account, although you won’t get to use any of the account features below.)

Upvoting/Downvoting. The thumbs are back! Comments can now be given thumbs-ups and thumbs-downs, but only to registered users. Thumbs are super fun, so you should totally register.

Featured Beanies. The “Beanies” tab in the header will take you to a page that highlights you guys and your comments. Be an active Beanie and be featured here!

Following. Users can follow each other, reply on each other’s fan walls, and get notifications when your friends post content. You can also follow shows by going to a recap and clicking the “Favorite” button.

Beanie Levels. Every comment upvote you’re given, every user you follow (or are followed by), and every fan wall post you make accumulates points for your account! What is this good for? Not anything useful, but we have implemented point levels, which will change your Beanie status as you accumulate more points. In your profile page, you’ll see that your Beanie level starts off as “Candy” (because everybody starts out as a Candy in dramaland!). We plan to also display the point totals so you can actually see how many you have (this feature is coming soon!), as you work your way up to water maid, noble idiot, and contract girlfriend, among many others. We also plan to add comment counts to the point totals.

Notifications. Your account will notify you when someone follows you, when someone comments on your posts (on your fan wall), when someone likes your post, and when a show you’re following adds a new post (say, posts a new recap). We’re adding email notification capability very soon!

Recaps, News, and Extras. We’ve grouped everything into three overarching categories, as you can see from the front page. “Recaps” includes not only drama recaps but also drama reviews (say, year end reviews), What We’re Watching posts, Spill the Beans, and movie reviews. “News” encompasses all news (drama, movie, variety, celebrity). And “Extras” is where you’ll find Podcasts, Open Threads, Beans of Wisdom, Announcement and meta posts, and anything that’s not a recap, review, or news post.

Blog View. If you don’t like this division of categories and yearn for the olden days when everything was in nice reverse chronological order, don’t worry, we’ve taken care of you. The “Switch to Blog View” button in the header will take you to a simple page that displays all posts.

Glitches. We’ve tested the site extensively and prepared as best we could, but we know there will inevitably be some glitches as we all settle into the new site. If you encounter any, shoot us an email at hello@dramabeans.com. Screenshots are super helpful, as well as information about what device/platform you are using.

Thanks for all your patience and understanding—we’re beyond excited to present our new site to you, and hope you like it! We promise to work out the remaining kinks as quickly as we’re able. In the meantime, go forth and explore, Beanies!

Thanks for providing the blog view option. When I am away for sometime, I like to catch up in chronological order and not have to search for updates in the various sections. I totally get why you have decided to change the format but then I am old school. Nice bright new look. Keep up with the good work.

I know, I love the Blog View option, too! It's like a piece of the old DB is still here. :') I also just really like seeing the posts in chronological order, too. Haha.

Wait a second! There is no privacy button for the profile? That's not okay. I want to decide who is able to see the profile.

And why the thumb up and thumb down feature? It gives crazy fans the opportunity to down vote every comment if somebody dares to criticize their oppas or unnies. :/

Also please add some color to the website. The white is really making this website look sterile. :(

I only agree with there being too much white. I love everything and have been exploring for about an hour. I had to turn my brightness down to the lowest level because of it bothering my eyes now. Hopefully I'll get used to it, but my eyes did prefer the less bright old DB.

You have voiced out my concerns. I don't like the idea of downvotes, which can curb criticism and the lack of privacy for comments/ profile.

Since I cannot use my past username because min.5 characters requirement, my username kanz officially changes into kanzcech.

Basically it's clean slate for me and my username as there's no history of comments and I must start anew.

In above comment, I mentioned how I can't register my username. And believe me or not just 2 minutes after I sent my email to DB, gf replied me back and solved my problem! The response is so fast, it's no joke! Thank you thank you very much DB team! Hugs and kisses to you!

*waves at kanz* -- I think we need to have a directory where Beanies can state their new and old handles. Something simple, with two columns. Then we could search for each other. -- Would it be possible to add an "alias" entry to our accounts? Something along the lines of "The Beanie formerly known as ___."

The new site looks great!

One request: I really really liked that one page that used to be under About called "Ratings" or "Drama Ratings" where Javabeans and Girlfriday gave a quick review and a rating out of 10 on how much they enjoyed it vs how good it was objectively speaking.

I can't find it under Resources, About, or Extras. Can that page be updated and added again? Just a request! :]

I love the new layout! I'm a bit bummed though. Was off the radar during the 10th year celebration so I never got to save my username and password. Anyway, nothing wrong with starting from the beginning, and I really really dig the new look. Finally a chance to follow peeps and the shows so I get updates?! There is a god! Hehehehehehe.

You don't need to reserve an account to do that. Just register using the email you used to comment with in the old site. If you register using that email, your old comments will be credited to that account.

Side bar will make its comeback as soon as DB team figures out how to put it back! Haha. Or at least the drama schedule will make its comeback on the side. Also, rotating headers are still here, last time I was on the new DB on my laptop. I was actually surprised to see the rotating headers still here, too.

The new site looks great and I'm looking forward to exploring all the new things aroung here. One first remark. I tried to register with my old name 'Newbie', but the system didn't let me use a capital N, so I had to change it. Hopefully I didn't highjack someone else's name and also my old comments can't be connected to this accound. So a fresh start it is. For you and me.

Congrats on the launch of the redesign! Looks awesome. One thing. While the majority of the users here seem to be female, it would be awesome if you could bear the male users in mind with the titles of the beanie levels. Maybe you don't have to change the female titles, but include male titles as well, like hyung, oppa, flower boy etc.

Agreed, would be cool if us males would get titles as well. Would be good if everyone can chose which sequence of beanie levels they want to go through.

While you are still tweaking this new site, can you please reconsider bringing back the "current airing shows" listing in the sidebar. I frequently refer to it for new shows airing or basically use it as a guide as I sometimes forget (it comes with age) which show is airing on which day and/or when there is a cancellation/postponement of episodes, etc.

How about also putting the page numbers selection at the top so that one does not have to scroll to the bottom of the page to select a number in order to jump to a certain page?

By the way, is DB ads-free now? *keeps fingers crossed* Totally annoying and irritating but can understand the need for it

Can anyone confirm that if our username has fewer than 5 characters and we tweak it to meet the min. character requirement, we'll lose our comment history even if our email address is the same? (As was reported by kanz in post 154.) If that's the case, I'm not complaining, but I'd like to know before I decide to tweak or start anew. TIA.

Yay! DB's makeover is a success and looks great! I'm still busy personalizing my page/account, so that's gonna be fun. The new features remind me a lot of the Soompi forums side, but it's all good because I love DB and now it really feels like a real community. I'm excited for all these new features and am so happy and proud to be growing alongside DB and all you Beanies! Hwaiting, DB! Thank you DB team for working so hard to providing the very best for us Beanies.

Hello Dramabeans Team!

Congratulations on your new site! I apologize if this question has already been asked: I tried to register/create an account, and I was hoping to be able to keep my username, "Ivoire."

Two things happened: it seems that usernames cannot start with a capital letter (I couldn't start mine with a capital "i"), and 2- I need to add a number to my username. I don't seem to be able to register, if I don't do that. I was hoping to be able to keep my previous username, so that it would match, or could be synced with the many previous comments I had written under the same (previous) username up until now. I hope I'm making sense. Would that be possible, or should I just create a new username, and accept that my old comments might not be able to be under the same username (thus I might not be able to find them on my wall)?

Also, when I started commenting here seven years ago, I would enter a different email address than I do now. When I register, should I just write the latest email address I have been writing?
I hope to hear from you, thank you!

Required fields are marked *

A number isn't required. But the system doesn't allow capital letters in the username. :( Just register with lowercase username for now. We're working (asap!) on allowing beanies to set a different nickname from their login. The nickname won't be as strict in format. It's up to you what email address you choose to register with. The new profile will remember all comments attached to that email address and add it to your member page, so maybe choose the one with comments you value more.

Hello mary,

And thank you for your response. You know, I tried writing my username all in small caps, no numbers, and it wouldn't let me register, which was the reason why I asked that question.
Would it be okay to enter two email addresses, or can I only enter one? (So maybe that way, all my comments could be on the wall? I was just wondering...) Thank you again!

Nope. Just one email per user.

It's possible your username isn't accepted because the registration went through and you didn't notice? Check your inbox or spam folder for the activation email.

@ mary, @ Dramabeans Team,

Just to let you guys know that I just tried (for probably the eighth or tenth time) to register/sign up, and I still can't.

When I enter "ivoire," (all in small caps), a message appears saying "Username contains invalid characters, only accept a-z and 0-9."

I'm not sure what to do, so I might just give up for now. I have been at this for an hour and twenty minutes now (or so...)

@ mary, @ Dramabeans Team,

I checked all my email addresses, the inboxes, spam boxes, promotions, social boxes and the thrash. I received no messages from dramabeans in any of them.

I also just tried (twice), to register again, and I still can't, and I still get the same notice I wrote in my previous message. After over two hours of trying to register, I guess I should just give up for now. It is not working for me.

Hey, sorry you're having trouble. I'm not sure why you can't register.

I tried registering just now using your wanted username: ivoire
In the email field, I used the email you used for the comment above.
I typed a random password and selected a random birthday for now.

It worked on the first try.

Your account should be awaiting activation status right now. If you wanted to use a different email, write another comment below and use that email in the email field instead, so we can delete the account I registered first.

0

Hey mary,

Thank you for following up, I appreciate it. FYI, I still didn't receive the notification in my account, even though the registration seemed to have worked on your first try. I'm really baffled, tbh. I was hoping to be able to use that email account because it is the least full of my email accounts, sigh...

I'm going to try with another account then.

0

Sorry, I used the same email address. I am going to change that, so you can disable or cancel the registration you made.

0

Sooo... I just tried again four times with the new email address, and I still can't register, and I'm getting no notifications, in either email addresses. And I keep getting the same message I mentioned earlier, about my username having invalid characters. I tried, I really did, for the last four hours.
