Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

javabeans

Because This Life Is Our First: I love the progression this show has followed, and how every episode develops and grows this relationship. Getting such a steady payoff of progress makes me able to really enjoy the small little moments… as well as the big ones, like the end of Episode 8, which I legit stood up and cheered for.

Go Back Spouses: I still have trouble with this couple being one we’re supposed to want to get back together, because right now I feel like they’re using their knowledge of the future and adults to be better partners for their alternate partners, and that seems healthier and more satisfying. The marriage seemed toxic, so it feels like their fixation on each other is tinged with toxicity. That said, I do find the show funny and breezy, even aside from the romance hiccup.

20th Century Boy and Girl: Obviously I’m all about the OTP here, but I can’t help feeling my heart pinch pre-emptively for the disappointment and heartache Anthony is in for, once he realizes he’s not the guy. He’s so sweet and earnest (if sometimes unreadable) that I like him as a person, while at the same time I feel frustrated at Ji-won for stepping aside because of Anthony. Step it up, OTP! Life is short! Be together now!

Witch’s Court: I love this couple together, and how they’ve settled into this playful vibe, and how she’s the one pestering him about liking her and he enjoys her reaction when he won’t play to her script. The cases are still completely forgettable, but as long as the characters remain at the center, I enjoy this.

Revolutionary Love: I like that Hyuk is finally getting that there’s more going on behind the scenes, and that his hyung is not the nice, supportive brother he thought. But his flashes of awareness are so fleeting in between those large swathes of obliviousness that he feels like a bipolar character. On the upside, now that Joon is cluing into her attraction to him, I feel like the relationship is actually doing something other than treading the same water where she gets angry for his mistakes and he chases her around like a sad pet.

girlfriday

Currently recapping: While You Were Sleeping

Because This Life Is Our First: I was all for a younger man provoking some jealousy in our couple, but I didn’t want him to be some creeper! That really took me out of the story, and was a turn I found unnecessary for a show like this. But everything else—the tiny moments of growing concern between them, the girlfriends and their hilarious but realistic relationships—is wonderful.

Temperature of Love: I’m annoyed that the thing we were all expecting—for the second lead to start wielding his money and power like a weapon—is happening in a predictable way. Where’s the twist? I really need a twist here.

Mad Dog: Mad Dog isn’t cat-and-mouse. It’s a cat following a cat following a mouse following a rat who heard from a pigeon that the cat knows secrets. I seriously can’t keep up with who’s chasing whom, but at least it’s a fun chase!

tineybeanie

20th Century Boy and Girl: It’s cute and poignant sometimes. I especially liked the scene where Ji-won was in a daze because he heard Jin-jin say “I love you,” and brought home melted ice cream and hid the cosmos flower when her brother walked him. In these moments, I can’t help but squeal at the cuteness.

Witch’s Court: Badass Yi-deum with her crafty Machiavellian tendencies was awesome. Heart-eyed Yi-deum who pursues her love target with the same unabashed straightforwardness is even more awesome. It’s refreshing to see a K-drama where the heroine is so clearly the more aggressive pursuant, because it takes out all of the unnecessary misunderstanding tropes that are so common in dramaland.

Revolutionary Love: I waver between hating Byun-hyuk’s father, and agreeing with his tough love strategy of raising his children. It’s unfortunate that Lee Jae-yoon is in another villain role though, especially because his character seems so flat and banal. It seems to be always either typical villain or super nice guy (e.g. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju) for him, and with no characters that have interesting complexities in between.

Mad Dog: Urgh. It doesn’t make sense! How can an ultimate scam artist like Kim Min-joon just NOT notice that he was being followed by a skeevy low-life murderer?? I feel like this entire time, the drama has set me up with these expectations that Kim Min-joon, in his one-man operation, is superior to the entire Mad Dog team, but how did they somehow realize that he was being followed before he did? Shame. Shame. Shame. I expect better from you next time, Kim Min-joon (especially because if you die, I won’t get to see Woo Do-hwan—my primary impetus to turn on the telly on Wednesday-Thursday—on my screen anymore).

Still just watching BTIOFL and no other drama. It's not my favorite two episodes. I think it's because I keep seeing spoilers in fan wall, that when I see the episode, it doesn't have the same impact.

I did watch three episodes of 2D1N to honor Kim Joo Hyuk. It was the girl friends episode, which was a lot of fun. It was also that time when he read the letter of where he wants to be a decade from now. It has now become a poignant moment in the show.

On Monday night and Tuesday night, I hold myself from opening twitter, instagram, or anything that leads me to spoilers. That's the best I can to get fully satisfied when I watch the new episodes in the morning, which already subbed.
It's hard, but I need to watch them with an empty head.
Maybe you can try.

Ooh, seems I'm early this time! Yay!

Out of ongoing dramas, I'm watching only Because This Life is Our First ❤️️ Like girlfriday I found the creeper unnecessary and a bit jarring with the overall feel of the show, but I still trust this writer. For me the real focus was not 'saving damsel in distress' but that both Se Hee and Ji tried to work around their first misunderstanding.
And the comments section is full of wonderful essays. Bravo all.

On the side, I binge watched Chicago Typewriter, which had been on my list for a while. As far as reincarnation and ghost stories go, this is the best I've seen. Completely satisfied. And Yoo Ah In with his 1930s hair was drool-worthy. 😍

Hospital Ship: Ahem, I skipped the final uneventful episodes and watched the final shipwreck of an episode (imagine your most hateful cliche endings and make a salad out of them). This is a candidate for rewriting not only the ending but the whole drama. 🤔

Looks like I stopped at ep 14 (7), right before the love triangle or whatever started. I'm happy I made the right decision. I couldn't very well have two frustrating shows on the watch list.

I'm almost at the end of the drama so I'm actually considering to just binge everything with me skipping probably every 2 minutes (or scroll through social media with the show playing in the background LOL)

Hospital Ship - I watched all of it but skipped only to the love line scenes throughout the episodes. As to the last episode - I hated it during the first watch (as you say - "hateful cliche ending") but when I rewatched the last episode from the love line point of view I actually cried and at the end was satisfied with how it ended - I must admit I actually surprised myself there.

BTLIOF. I couldn’t believe the ending scene and the huge payoff. My heart was racing when I thought she would get killed, then my heart was racing when Se-hee confronted the stalker, then it was racing when he spoke, then when he took her hand. I’m surprised I didn’t have a heart attack from the stress of it all. I went from sheer panic to utter happiness in 2 minutes flat. Standing ovation from @javabeans. That never happens!

The drama-logic in me was cursing the writer when i saw Bok Nam took the spanner out and walk towards Ji Ho at the 57min mark, thinking that I would curse her the whole week if she intended to end this at a cliffhanger. Then when Se Hee's hand reached out and threw the spanner away i instantaneously leaped up and shouted for joy.

Required fields are marked *

You just made me check if I have a heartbeat. My logic killed it. Not once did I think Ji Ho would be in danger and I was so confident of Se Hee showing up in time. Imagine how much more I would enjoy my dramas without that irritating voice of logic?

I was pulled in. I know it’s a show and all, and everything is bound to work out! But in the moment, I imagine how it would play out in real life and my heart and brain are both all in. It helps if the acting is good, which in this, it’s excellent. I can’t do the same for medical dramas though. Those have to be accurate enough in order for my own fairly logical brain to enjoy it!

Yes, I guess it is hard for a doctor to watch medical dramas and lawyers to watch legal ones.

In any case, I rather get sucked into the moment but I just can't. Maybe this is why my reactions are always more muted.

Required fields are marked *

She wouldn't have been killed! Come on, she is the main lead.
Really, I knew he or somebody else would come to save her. I was like: "ok, end of the episode, the cliffhanger is we won't know what will happen to her, like the scene will stop with BN raising the wench to hit her,or she realising is dangerous and running for her life, or something like that, and we knew the following week she would be ok, because help, it is a Kdrama", but yeah, he came and it paid off. Nevertheless, so totally unexpected was not. What we are all curious is how he came there on time and wether BN would have really wanted to hurt her or not. I mea, yes, he is a stalker, but in order to be a killer he needed to have a reason and a better plan. He wouldnt just kill someone openly on the streets, and go to jail and not be able to ride his precious bike anymore. That would be out of character, even when we don't know much about him.

I'm a little surprised none of the above 3 recappers are watching Buamdong Revenge, which seems right up their alley and is fantastic. It has a great woman bromance and is smart and funny. Ah, well, there are only so many hours in a day, I guess.

I'm watching that and BTIOFL and Go Back Spouses. I love that I have a great drama for each day of the week, and then Fantastic Duo on Sundays!

I just mentioned in the above comment that you can find some scene translation and recapping at the Soompi forum thread for the show. It could help ease the waiting pain. Also, from what I can tell, I think the volunteer subbers are trying to get the subtitles done by the weekend for at least one episode. That's not a bad turnaround, considering that I've waited longer for other shows to be translated.

Yup, Buamdong Revenge Club is good watch. I simply loved the love that these foursome are developing along the way. Ep 8 is perhaps the turning point for all. Their pains get to you but what joy you celebrating with them each time they scored little victories against what social norms dictated how they should be, etc.

Beside BRC, Mad Dog is another show that attracted me back after a short hiatus.

After a few episodes, I dropped the Temperature of Love and While You Were Sleeping. Somehow recaps are more exciting than actually watching them.

Black - Finally dropped. I am all for a well constructed mythology and trying to mix genres but it needs a sure hand in writing, acting and directing. This one got away from them quickly.

20th Century Boy and Girl. It could be much more than it is. Failure to flesh out SJJ's, and to a lesser extent JW's, character is the biggest sin. Lack of narrative direction. It meanders so that it approaches a "slice of life" drama but has this major romantic triangle in the center. Will watch to see how they pull this together but, at the halfway mark, the limited character development is leaching my interest. (maybe "leeching" would be a better word than "leaching" - ha ha !!!)

BTIOFL... too many comments already. Still loving this.

WYWS... competent and lukewarm. The climactic setup appears next week, I guess. But it feels like it might be a marginally bigger version of the previous episodic cases. The biggest surprise they could pull of would be to turn this into some tragic romance at the end but that would be pretty courageous.

Avenger's RC, the package -- on hold for the moment.

WC, MD - not started (maybe never)

ToL, RL - dropped for good after 1st episode.

I've only watched the first 4 ep, but for me the beautiful scenery is what I've been the most impressed by. The scenery for one - it's gorgeous. But the storyline is nothing to sneeze at, as it can be light-hearted and funny but also poignant at the same time. It's character-driven, or rather multiple character-driven - like peeking into the thoughts and feelings of someone through a window. You have these very different people in a small tour group, and eventually I hope though they are strangers, they will come to appreciate each other on some small level before the week's tour is up.

The best things I like about The Package? There is no specifically one best thing but it's the whole package (yeah, lame play on 'package') starting with beautiful location shoots, script, cast, directing and most of all, I love the main leads' chemistry. I enjoy its humor and comedic scenes (the chastity belt lol) its random insights in life, the characters' perspectives and their back stories, and yeah, the smooching on the island and on the streets, the serious talks on life (just have condom packs handy - never know when you may need it), bromance/sismance, just to name a few of my favorite things about The Package. Just watch it. It's a delightful series.

So for the currently airing dramas, I only have energy for BTLIOF. I've been subsisting on KBS drama specials because they don't require commitment and the stories are finished ones in just an hour! But one cannot subsist on KBS drama specials alone so I actually started Neighborhood Hero. I know it has Park Shi-hoo in it but I've been mostly zoning out when it's him on the screen? Not difficult to do because the reason I started watching NH is Lee Soo-hyuk. I suddenly missed him so SO much this week, I felt it in my bones. To the point that I chose to watch NH. Yeah, it was intense.

Bb is so cute and endearing. I've read javabeans' review of NH last year and I think she actually gave a very kind review? I don't know why but the script is grating on me. It's so cheesily and laughably bad. I mean, PSH's character is a former spy but HE DOES NOT FEEL LIKE ONE. So obvious in questioning people. He's super shady and suspicious!

Anyway, it's kinda perfect for my needs right now, which is brainless watching. I can't obsess over BTLIOF for the whole week because I'll go gaga and insane. My fanwall is full of gifs (sorry for spoiling people!) and the amount of times I've rewatched the end of ep 8 is not just bordering on unhealthy, IT IS VERY UNHEALTHY. Hahaha! Sometimes I tell myself that's fine because oppa has come back after ten years and I need to revel in it.

But I also need to be a functioning adult so I'm trying to divert my energy to other avenues. Hahaha

Because This Life Is Our First: I didn't like that they included a stalker into the story, but the ending of EP 8 made up for it. The creepy background music whenever Bok Nam appeared on the screen was so annoying too!! Like NOT subtle at all. I think next week's episodes may be really great. More focus back on Ji Ho & Se Hee. No more Bok Nam please.
Witch’s Court: The few, sweet scenes between Yi Deum and Jin Wook are a treat. Not too romantic yet, but just right at this stage of their relationship. It's great and fun to see the heroine teasing the hero for once about liking her. I like seeing the criminal cases unravel too. I don't care for Gap Soo's scenes, but I am interested in Sang Ho's and Min Ho's side of the story.
Temperature of Love: Girlfriday brought up a good point. We haven't had any twists yet. I feel like I will watch this drama to the end though. Still in it for our OTP. ❤️ Excited to see more of Jung Sun and his full story.

The lack of twists in the Temperature of Love is what I like the most about this drama. I like those long conversations between characters and how they need to make choices which in the end can’t be good for everybody. You can’t have it all therefore some sacrifices needs to be done. This conflict is interesting to me in this drama.

Because This Life Is Our First 💖💖💖 The stalker thing didn't bother me. I think the writer made a good use of it. So far so good.
I'm still in love with Se Hee at 1000%, the couple Sang Gu/Su Ji is really growing on me and I loooove Bomi.😍

With's Court💗💗💗 You summarized my thoughts way too well @tineybeanie.

While You Were Sleeping💞💕💞 People are complaining because it's getting too repetitive and I do think they're right but I just don't care. I love this show a lot. The comedy really works on me and I like the message they try to portray with every case. More than procedures and cases, it's about people and humanity and I love that. Just love everything in it actually. 😅

BTLIOF and WYWS, though I'm wondering whether to put off watching the episodes until all are out - I've only binge watched dramas so far, and all the waiting is killing me! But there's something to be said for sharing all that with fellow beanies... So maybe I'll learn to bear the suspense.

1. While You Were Sleeping - still my no 1 drama. I think it's LJS's charm that got me plus with the cute Jung Hae In. The visual is too good in this drama.
2. Because This is Our First Life - Awww our robot human Se Hee is finally becoming flexible human. I think his logarithm of life is all messed up because of Ji Ho. Can't wait to watch them falling in love with each other! Love love love!
3. Go Back Spouses - Now I'm very curious if the things that they changed in 1999 timeline will affect 2017 timeline or not because now that Dr. Park won't have his money support from his future wife, I wonder if he's gonna end up being a doctor or not. Plus, Seol's story is gonna be good!
4. Buamdong Revenge Club - This drama is a gem! I love that the revenge is so funny that it doesn't involve with cold blood or anything. It's refreshing that it's more of a prank rather than revenge, but hell, it's satisfying to watch.
5. Witch's Court - I just love the interaction between the leads that I don't really care about the whole plot about Cho Gap Soo. Like mister, I don't care about you, so please stop meddling your life into my OTP's life.

On-hold:
Mad Dog, Revolutionary Love, Black, The Package & Temperature of Love.

I'm down to 5 dramas from 10 because of time constraint (really?). It's weird that the dramas that I anticipated so much, I ended up not loving them that much (Temperature of Love, Mad Dog, The Package & Revolutionary Love) and the ones I didn't anticipate but now are my crack dramas (Because This Is Our First Life, Witch's Court and Buamdong Revenge Club).

I don’t think Kim Min-joon is actually a scam artist - he pretends to be one and the Mad Dog team for some reason think he’s one, but he’s really just a rich guy with the same undercover instincts as the rest of the team. He’s never been followed by a murderer before and he was a obsessively following a new lead. Didn’t seem like a gap to me.

And honestly I don’t think the team see him as a scammer now either.

Min Joon is lost most of his gray matter by now. He is now as much incompetent as any other hero would be. All the 007 gizmos and all the hopla but end result is lousy writing and nonsensical acts from all sides.

My favorite American TV series is the half-hour comedy The Good Place. Each episode continues to delight and I love the writers for it. Also looking forward to catching POV documentary Motherland, a look at a Philippine maternity hospital, the busiest one on the planet! Currently streaming through Tues. Nov. 14 at PBS.org/pov/motherland .

Back in Kdramaland, my heart belongs to Because This Life Is Our First. My love for this show grows with every episode. The shared affection (obsession?) of many Beanies makes watching and talking about BTIOF especially joyful. I deeply value the breadth of Beanie perspectives on the show’s issues and characters.

Witch’s Court Ma Yi-deum is an irresistible combination of ferocity and vulnerability. I enjoy the growing affection and trust between YD and Jin-wook and I’m still intrigued by the connections that all lead back to the monstrous Jo Gab-soo.

I binged the first six episodes of Buam-dong Revenge Social Club/Avengers Social Club last weekend and find it really endearing. Lee Mi-sook’s family story has really gutted me. Wow—these Kdramas really know how to mix in the pathos and comedy!

Black Currently hate-watching Black and I’m wavering on whether to continue. I was hanging on because I mistakenly thought it was only ten parts. I absolutely love all the Reaper shenanigans though. And Song Seung-heon continues to be distractingly attractive in his all black attire.

Via my way back machine, I’m rationing Secret Forest and I am awestruck.

Go back couple- I love Jang Nara, she is such a great actress. I love the comedy in this show. Also I feel that I can relate with the main leads about being happy to have a chance to redo their youth.

Because This Life is Our First: I'm just so happy that no matter how fast the romantic development between our leads happened, their characters still  consistent and there was no abrupt personality change. Because, really, I never knew that being rational can be this swoony.

Go Back Spouses: I finally marathoned it this week. (Beanies' fan posts sure are persuasive) It feels like a conventional romcom, complete with its many tropes. But it has so much hearts and there is something very sincere in its exploration about family that make me really love it. It also has a very believable problem between our leads that I fully understand why they'll eventually choose divorce, yet at the same time I can also see them working it out together and eventually rebuilding their marrriage.

Argon: I think this series benefited much from its short eps. It makes for a fast paced workplace drama, with enough characters' interaction to keep us emotionally invested in everyone's personal arc. Nothing is dragging and I like the desperate, almost hopeless tone that infused the whole drama, what's with our team being the outcast and traitor of the broadcast company. The fact that get hammered on by the arrival of our heroine, who is the outcast of the outcast team. It all gave extra tension and weight to each and every news item they worked on. Despite all that, I'm glad to see that the ending is much more hopeful that what I imagined, even with their anchor's dismissal. It still gave a sense that whatever happened, they are ready to uncover the truth and fight for another day.

Still watching While You Were Sleeping.

Three Meals a Day S4: Ep 11. I can see why Na PD called their meals at their last day filming as "befitting royal meals". They all look almost too fancy for 3MAD setting. Haha...

I really liked the first episode of Argon and I was waiting for it to sub for so long but after KJH's death, I ca't bring myself to play the next episode. Maybe it'll take a while.
From your remarks on it I gather that it is good but not really spectacular? Correct me if I am getting the wrong impression.

Fortunately I've finished Argon before the sad news broke, otherwise it would be hard to finish it. Yeah, it's good but nothing spectacular. I like it enough, but it's a bit hard to get emotionally invested in it, which I think is one of the reason it's not a great drama in my book.

Thankfully Argon has only 8 episodes. Things moved fast as per direction but each episode felt so slow and had nothing much to offer. Show is about news show and Investigavtive-Reporting but nothing much is offered to the audience. It wasn't any better than any other typical kdrama. Too many issues with this mini-lengthy show.

After all that excitement over premieres my list is soo small now 😧
Btimfl - I love this drama. It's soo real at times that it makes me extremely happy 😊😊
Avengers social club - A real gem. I love this. If only they could cut completely MS's daughter SY though, cause I can't stand her 😡
The package - Everybody should watch this. It's such an anti-stress and cute thing 😀😀😀

20th century boy&girl - only following the recaps, it's advancing too cliche-like for me 😯
Wyws - Dropped it, don't care about anyone 😧

Family Outing - I love it. I feel like part of the family 😆
Can't wait for :
Winner over flowers - It's Na PD, the guys sound like a mess. Sign me up 😂😂
Kang's Kitchen - The NjTW cast (minus Kyu) doing a cooking show at the end of 2017. So perfect for disasters 😉😉😉😉

This week it was difficult to order my four favourite shows... but I definitely enjoyed:

- ‎The Swoony Jiwon and The Cute Anthony's Fan Sa Jin Jin

- The Cute and Swoony Nam Gil (though I think Ban Do was as adorable and smitten in his own way the years back)

- ‎The Swoony Step-son... The Cute Step-mom... The Swoony Unnie...and all interactions between the Cute Revengers

- ‎The Cute Ma Sanggu (Suji, don't break his heart!)... and The Swooniest Sehee ever (the motorcycle!!) (Btw, they both love so respectfully)

The Swoony Policeman is running a bit behind and The Swoony Chef joined The Swoony Chaebol on the waiting bench.

**K-shows
*1n2d e197 : 😢 , on Monday I knew there wasn't a new ep but I still checked the comments before watching it : what a shocking and sad news , it still seems unreal how quickly life can change : RIP uri Gutaeng Hyung. On Tuesday I saw videos of 1n2d staff and members at the wake : I cried 😭, then learning that JJY was unawared while filming LOTJ 😢, didn't know I'd be so affected. I watch the ep later during the week : no wonder why it was chosen as the best trip, I loved it when it aired and I laughed again, seeing Kim Joo Hyuk won't be the same , just like saying "remember each member forever" 😢. This special in Gimje with grandmothers is still a gem : Kim Jun Ho grandmother compared To Yoo Jae Suk (talkative & hard-working 😂), Defconn grandmother making some noise "oh oh " 😁, and so on and Gutaeng being the grandmother's son even taking a family picture 😢
*Super Junior returns E31-40 : at least they stopped editing out Siwon in latest videos, but we still don't see any focus on him or his solo part in Mv T_T . Black suit mv is going To be a funny one maybe like mamacita haha (DongHae with his book haha 😂), I like

*Temperarure of love E23-26: To quote my revolutionary love post above , I want To say 'Uri Jung Sun' with a pitiful tone 😅, somebody give him a hug please (yes Hyun Soo already did it, but I still volunteer 😂). Watching ep23-24 I was wondering how such a good drama turned out like this , ep25-26 were better but nothing compared to the first eps 😑.
*Witch court E7-8 : ok it's procedural so similar stuff happened but I'm enjoying it a lot , waiting to see our couple together and against big baddie (also 2nd lead couple so cute 😊)

KJH was part of the main cast for about a year. Not a guest star.

I think KJH was the oldest and JJY is the youngest (maknae) of the main cast. They're all pretty close but these two (prior to YSY) probably had the least variety experience and perhaps bonded more than others (my guess only...)

Only watching Buam Dong Revenge Club - it's so different from all the airing dramas and so refreshing. Heartbreaking, hilarious and empowering all at once. I was shipping JH and SG, but seems the show is taking them to a more familial route. It wudve been great to have someone recap this here. But loving the fan subs and efforts by the forums!
TOL- would've done better as a movie. Side plots n characters are too lazily written and wastes the immense chemistry of the leads.
Hospital ship- show lost its steam with the ex gf plot line.

BTIOFL, Witch Court, Go Back Spouses and Buam Dong Revenge Club.

BTIOFL I love this show. It's just that the more comments in a recap, the less inclined I am to write. I am trying to understand what kind of beanie I am. The last time I participated actively and discussed in a recap was in The King Loves.
Anyway, I am just content to watch the show and make gifs because you cannot NOT make gifs when there's so many 'gifable' scenes!

Go Back Spouses I thought Jin Joo's Dad did something terrible to Mom while she was alive. It seems that Jin Joo is angry because he moved on too quickly? I understand how she feels but is that the only way to judge how much Dad loves Mom?
This show always has something I can relate to or see happening to people around me. I had a high school class reunion recently and it's interesting as we reminisce about the past, I realized things which I didn't see before.
Also, I asked friends who would like to 'change' husbands if they could. However, it was an unanimous "No" to change because their children.

Witch Court I didn't expect Ma Yi Deum to confront Jo Gap Soo. Things sure escalated quickly. I am glad I stuck on to the show because things are a lot more interesting now that the focus is back on Yi Deum, Jin Wook and Yi Deum's mom case.

Buam Dong Revenge Club Just watched ep 7 and haven't started on 8. Finally, it shows I am not that crazy to imagine Soo Gyum together with Jung Hye. Not that it happened but the rumors started and Dad is insecure although I don't think it's because of his wife.

On Go Back Couple, Jin-joo's dad brought up remarriage barely a year into her mum's death. I know that certain societies are completely fine with it, but imo that's moving on a little too quickly. If it were me I'd be angry as well, not that resentful, but I certainly won't feel comfortable. I think it's possible that her dad feels lonely after her mum's death, but I understand Jin-joo's reaction as well.

I have brain cramp once I see comments build up quickly. I can't even settle down to read, it feels like information overload or something. I think it's both?? Well, at least, it is for me. I only managed to read 30-40 comments per recap, then brain cramp just as you said. I like when people are passionate about a show and happy when there is good discussion, but I realized a long time ago that I'm a pretty shallow viewer, and sometimes passionate discussion can affect my view of a show. I totally agree! For one of the episodes, the recap came out in the morning in my time zone, and I commented as I was having my breakfast because there were only about 30 comments or so. It was a fun discussion. Then the last episode, it was on 300 already and... I couldn't even. Too many! But then, I did feel my love for the show a little diminished by the stalker (as @girlfriday said as well) so maybe it was a combination of the two?

Between Jin-joo and her father -it also shows that how man and woman have different way of thinking. I have seen some men immediately get married with another woman just few weeks / months after their wives passed away. On the other hand, women are more sentimental and can survive alone /with child after the death of their husbands, and sometimes not even re-married. I'm more open minded with this issue, one year is actually reasonable time. We as the children can't be too selfish, it's unfair when we are having a family on our own, but our father /mother just spending their time alone and lonely.

I have to agree with what you said about BTIOFL. I love the drama but I can't bring myself into commenting as much as I did in TKL. Back then for TKL, I spent my time reading each and every single comments there in the recaps. But for BTIOFL, I found it hard to keep up or even find the mood to read all comments. And it is sooo weird because I really do love the show!

So just like you, I try to find out the reason why I am like this and I think I know. In my case it was because I am not obsessed enough and I don't have a favourite character. In TKL, I was and still obsessed with Rin. To the point I felt the need to read all comments about him, good and bad. With BTLIOF, I don't have any bias so I am free from that feeling.

I'm rooting for the main couple as well.

What I don't understand is why people feel an urge to drop the drama when it seems like the second lead is drawing the stronger hand right now, while the main leads' relationship appear a little too "toxic" for them to get back together. This is dramaland! How many toxic pairings have we seen get together? Besides, there is clearly time for the writer to turn things round, and it's not like Ban-do is necessarily losing the battle.

In any case, I think Go Back Couple is extremely well-executed, and no matter how it ends it's just a good watch. The drama does well in the entertainment aspect. It's a show with a steady pace and tight plot. How should I put it? It's a show that I'll actually spend 60 mins watching and not skip anything.

2. While You Were Sleeping - still enjoying the cases and Lee Jong Suk + his appealing/unappealing (you decide) prosecutor robe. I'm charmed by Woo Tak's visuals and his relationships with the two leads. #BatmanWooTak&PetRobin needs to make an appearance soon!

3. Because This Is Our First Life - so nice to have Lee Min Ki on my screen every week <3 #GameofMicroExpressions

4. Go Back Couple - apparently, I can't resist Jang Nara so I started this one and I'm glad I did! I'm definitely NOT rooting for the leads to GO BACK together now because the show gave them really good second leads so let's focus on their respective partners for a while, yeah? #DoNotGetBackTogetherCouple

1) Because This Life is Our First - just perfect. Love the main couple and all the side characters, which is unusual for me ❤❤❤❤❤+ (the + is for LMK and his acting)

2) While You Were Sleeping - I like its life lessons and the overall high quality of this drama. LJS is so charming. The plot feels a bit cyclic, but I trust the ending will be strong (I just want to see that evil lawyer burn). ❤❤❤❤

3) Black. I might be alone here but I like this show very much too. It's messy and confusing and I'm absolutely OK with it. I like the reapers and their world. I like Black. The detectives are very funny. I don't like the female lead though. Her acting is too weak, compared to the rest. I'm very curious to see how this story ends! ❤❤❤❤

Dropped (a couple of weeks ago):

- Temperature of love: there's only chemistry between the leads and that's it. There was no reason for me to keep watching this show after they got together. It was also painful for me to see the second male lead play that role. Kim Jae-Wook is better than that.
- Revolutionary love: I don't like any of the characters. I couldn't identify with any of them.

Avengers Social Club - this drama is my jam! I love how it started out as a but has now become a supportive quartet who are motivated by revenge becauseits hurting the people they have come to depend and love. They are carrying out revenge for other people you guys!!! And I'm absolutely loving it. I'm also loving how the stakes are higher now. Petty acts of revenge are not going to cut it now. 😁

Bravo My Life - I came for Yeon Jung Hoon and stayed for Hyun Woo? The editing is shoddy and so are the production values but either way, I like the drama. Im looking forward to the reconciliation between mother and daughter and for Do Na to realise her own dreams and for Bum Woo to realise his as well. Can Hyun Woo also stop being charming and soft?♥️

My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho - I've been meaning to watch this for a while and I finished the first episode. It's likeable so far and Shin Minah is bubbly cute, as per usual. I wonder if this will continue to hold my interest? Lee Seung Gi is pretty hilarious tho as a reluctant hero 😂

Yeay for another beanie watching Bravo My Life. I just binge watched all the 8 epi few ago. Agree that the editing is shoddy, but I guess SBS don't allocate many budgets for their weekend drama - the last time I saw quite a good editing was I Have A Lover. I'm not too sure who is the real male lead here, but the potential loveline gonna be so mess with the actor (Kang Ji-sub) also has his interest on Do-na. Hyun-woo is charming but my love all all way for Yeon Jung-hoon ❤

I'm only watching two ongoing dramas: Because This Life is Our First and While You Were Sleeping.

BTLIOF is such a heartwarming show and I can't help but feel the warmth between the couples. The stalker part didn't bug me at all because it showed the dark side of having a outer beauty oriented society.

As for WYWS, there's something about the show that seems lacking to me. Idk if it's the directing or writing that's making me less excited compared to when I first watched it. Lee Jong Suk, Jung Hae In and Robin are the only reasons why I'm still watching it every week. Other than that, I might've dropped it a few weeks ago.

We Are Peaceful Brothers : Both of the brothers never dated I didn't expect it. I wonder how the girl ended up living with them.

The Big Boss 2 : On ep 12. One of the twins gave the craziest One Piece theory I've ever heard LOL The werewolf game can indeed make you doubt your friendship that's quite dangerous haha.

Nirvana in Fire : Watched 11 episodes. I picked it up again after a few months since I became more used to Chinese names. We're not on the full strategy side of this drama but I like the set-up and costumes !

My Mr.mermaid : I didn't expect this drama to go deep into the characters' swimming career and motivation. I appreciate that and the fact that the girl reporter knows her “assistant” is suspicious.

1 Liter of Tears : After so many years trying to convince myself watching this heartbreaking story, I finally gave in. I've never cried so much since Deep Love (an other Japanese melodrama) and I didn't even complete it yet !

Lingerie Girl's Generation : I'm saving the last episode because I'm not ready to say goodbye.

KBS Drama Special 2017 : Bad Family : I enjoyed this weird family dynamic and wished for a second episode to develop more about their concerns.

Temperature of Love : Putting Kim Jae Wook's sexiness... Arrgh what is Jung Woo doing ??

Witch's Court : Ma Yi Deum's crying broke my heart T__T

20th Century Boy and Girl : I love what Jin Jin did for Anthony's fan meeting.

Because This Life is Our First : When logical thinking can me swooning !

While You Were Sleeping : Soooo is Batman color blind ? It will be problematic with the umbrella. Are we going to have a false testimony or something ?

Black : I don't know where I'm going but I like where I am so far.

Mad Dog : If Min Joon could be a full member of Mad Dog it would ease his plans.

Go Back Spouses : I just love this drama more and more each week.

Avengers Social Club : Ahjummas are so cute ! They're adorable and I love the bond the sons have with each other too.

Revolutionary Love : I think I will drop it. Sorry Kang Sora !

The Package : I didn't expect to like it that much but it's surprising good.

Because This Life is Our First: I like that Ji Ho's pettiness and hurt feelings didn't last (she is definitely a better person than me) and that ending...swoon...but is it too soon to celebrate? Se Hee, you are not giving Ji-Ho and I another false hope, are you? Next week's preview looks promising so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Go Back Couple: Wasn't planning to watch it but those 😍😍 photos of Nam-Gil on beanies' fanwall were my downfall. Binge-watched 6 epis and I'm in love. The SLS is super strong here, beanies! Not gonna lie, watched Jin Joo barreling down the steep slope into Nam-Gil's arms like maybe 15,688 times. Swoon.....

Witch's Court: Yi Deum wears her heart on her sleeves and how hilarious it was when she bugged him non-stop on the phone about dating her but then again, who can blame her since Jin Wook is such a catch 😍 That scene when he gave her a picture of her mother in a frame...swoon...

Temp of Love : Not a proponent of violence but how satisfying it was to see that well-deserved punch. And Jung Sun always has the best comebacks! Although my heart broke a little at his breakdown. I still love the two leads together but the rest of the characters (except for Good Soup crew & Kyung) are just so frustrating.

While You Were Sleeping: Jae-Chan and Hong-Joo combo is the best coz they make each other a better person. While the murder case is straightforward, I like the ethical question it raised and the loophole it presented. I was moved by Jae Chan's passionate argument in court. And Woo Tak's deep dark secret? I was a tad disappointed by the revelation and hope more will be revealed.

Mad Dog: I like how the Mad Dog team just conveniently move in into Min Joon's apartment without his approval and made themselves at home, and the (very) small steps towards trusting one another. I knew something was up when the police friend answered a mysterious call in Ep 7.

Dropped While You Were Sleeping. High on This Is Our First Life. As for Go Back Couple, what can I say: Team Nam Gil all the way. With Baby Seojun still in the picture. My heart races so fast in nervousness when show tries to bring the divorced couple together. I agree that they seem like a toxic relationship that needs to end.

Weirdly I have fallen out of love with BTIMFL. The reason why I loved we married as a job, the exact same reasons don't work with the kdrama imo, and the two protagonists, their interaction looks forced? Don't know. It's sad though, I was looking forward to lee min ki's come back drama, but most of the times he's so talkative and so streetsmart, perceptive towards everyone around him in most of his projects, that here as a nerd eccentric character, doesn't match his aura.. I feel. All the extra pauses they take when they are alone, and the way jung so min tries to act as a awkward writer, it seems to me that, with someone else like kim go eun [like how she excelled in hong sul's awkwardness in CIIT, as if she was wearing her skin] could have portrayed the character with much conviction. I do love rest of the gang though, and the other two girlfriends, especially director ma cracks me up everytime he's onscreen haha. Hope he gets to lead his own drama one day. Although I hate what they did with esom's character, and let me tell you, girls don't get treated that way, I mean just to seat as dolls in higher positions like that. I come from a pretty much male dominated work industry ,so I have seem my female peers ruling their work zone with much more dominance and they get to be treated because of their talent and work, not just how pretty they are. Girls don't need boy's help to be saved in their workplace..come on. Didn't see this coming from south korea at least.

I am only watching go back couple [ which is awesomeee], kind of bummed that GF or JB didn't have much good things to say about them, this show is brilliant in every way possible. Avenger club is the best too, drunken Lee ye won is officially my bae, and then I love black, and the package. While you were sleeping is still watchable but that's pretty much about it. Witch's court has the cutest otp, and I hope we got to see more of their interaction. But it's strange how I like all the underrated dramas, but maybe it has always been this way lol, erm.

Because This is Our First Life - I found some of this just a wee bit over the top this week. Suddenly there's a rape suspect being looked for who worryingly pops up as a problem on several date sites and the idea of the police doesn't occur to anyone? Or would that be the step that maybe tells them this wasn't the best way to go. A 'rival' could be a git without the hyperbole.

The Package - really is a lovely little show. So-Ran's over what exactly the point really touched a nerve.

Argon - a lot of it very good indeed (especially Park Won-Sang who seemed to be in the middle of a mass Bubblegum reunion and Lee Kyoung-Young making up for being the source of all evil in Forest of Secrets). But it wasn't perfect. One of the key problems was they essentially made the lead appear somewhat naive when interacting with the the higher ups and this writing decision seemed solely to provide a way in for viewers - there were some interactions with the bosses that just didn't ring true, especially when the show starts with a demotion for running a story on a boss's cousin. And some storylines seemed to get a bit lost too for what seemed to be set-up as a one-off. And bratty kid does bratty kid - *yawn*. But well worth looking it.

Because it's my first life :
I like it. I don't really like the 7 years couple but I like the other characters.

ToL :
I like the main couple and their relationship. But the second leads are boring. And for his mother, I think she had a poisonous relationship with her ex-husband where she pushed him to the limit and instead to be smart and leave, he hit her. And it seems that JS is very afraid to become like his father.

20th century... :
I really like their friendship :) When they were waiting for her under the umbrella, I love it so much !

Mad Dog :
I love the character of Kim Min Joon. It's so sad to see him fight alone because he has nobody around him. I understand that he didn't see the killer because he was too excited by the fact to find Ms Lee who had a lot of answers.

Witch's Court :
I like their relationship, they're really cute.

WYWS :
I watch it only for Woo Tak. And I'm disapointed by his secret. If I understand how is bad for a cop that he's colorblind, I hoped that his secret would explain why he has dreams too. And he seems to be a person who wants to make the good choice and to be good, so I hope his reason to lie about his colorblindness is very good.

Hospital Ship :
There were a lot of bad choices in the story (like the ex girlfriend) but I still loved it for its human side. I liked the interactions between the characters and how the hospital ship was important in the life of the people on the islands. The scenery was beautiful ! And I loved the BTS scenes. Ha Ji Won has a catching laugh and they were really cute with Kang Minhyuk.

The Package :
I like how we learn bit by bit about the different characters and how we have misconception about them.

I am watching WYWS, BTLIOF, 20th century and GBC.
I gave up on hospital ship a while ago.  Did it sink?

Sooooo.... from all these dramas I have come to realise,  even loving LJS like crazy,  and I love him,  that I like BTLIOF more. Oh my... it is my drama crack of this year,  I think.  And why?  Easy,  all the reasons you told already and the two I have commented before: the Cat and Ji ho being a writer.

20th Century puts me in a good mood all the time.

Go back couple: well, I also like Jang Nara very much.  But in this drama I am not fond of Man do. He belittles his wife all the time and get upset because she is not what he would have expected?  I don't see reasons why she would have fallen in love with him in 1999 the first or the second time.  Although I can recognize that in the present he endures a lot at work,  because he provides materially,  yes,  but not well enough,  and not with love.  He does it because it is a duty. I don't see him being in love,  true love,  at all.  So... I am not sure how much I want to keep on watching this drama.  I feel like I would rather rewatch BTLIOF time after time until the new episodes come!  LOL 😂😂

Hospital Ship was in ICU for a long time until it eventually sank. It had little narrative sense and pulled out all the classic tropes you can imagine (SPOILERS: crazy ex-girlfriend, love triangle, misunderstandings, noble idiocy, terminal illness).
