Park Seo-joon may become the boss in webtoon adaptation Why Secretary Kim

From Hwarang to Youth Cops to Fight My Way, Park Seo-joon has had a strong year, and it doesn’t look like he’s planning to stop in 2018. He’s currently considering a new drama project called Why Secretary Kim, an adaptation of a webtoon based on Jung Kyung-yoon’s original novel by the same name. It was published in 2013, and became so popular that it was adapted into a webtoon by Kim Myung-mi, and has been picked up for a drama adaptation in the new year.

Park Seo-joon is up to play the egotistical vice president of a large corporation who is both handsome and capable. The titular Secretary Kim has stayed at his side through thick and thin, serving as his personal aide—doing everything from keeping his schedule to being his chauffeur—for nine years. I haven’t read the webtoon, but the drama synopsis seems to indicate that it might be a light and funny office rom-com, which I’m always up for.

I’m not sure if I like Park Seo-joon in a typical swoon-worthy boss role though (which he’s played before in She Was Pretty), because I’ve liked his oddball characters more, like the hidden writer in Kill Me, Heal Me and the UFC fighter in Fight My Way. But he’s definitely one of the better actors in his generation, so I’m crossing my fingers that he returns soon.

The drama is being planned for release next year; however, it’s not officially on the books at any network yet. But I’m sure that if Park Seo-joon confirms, it’ll be snatched up really quickly.

same for me, he really shines as a doofus, whenever he unleashes his lovable-but-stupid persona I'm swooning left and right. he wasn't my type in She Was Pretty, but he had to contend with Siwon back then, so maybe... just maybe... this is worth a shot.

Another secretary-theme drama? YES! Hope they at least pick a decent actress for female lead role! I like him, but not enough to watch his drama when his female lead is a mediocre actress.

I also prefer Park Seo-joon in oddballs characters instead of something like in SWP. Maybe his character will be like Daniel Choi's in Jugglers, hopefully.

I hope his character will be different than Daniel Choi's since I find the premise similar to Jugglers but the female job title is secretary instead of an assistant, I don't want to compare both actors.
Ehem *swooning over Daniel Choi, he's so attractive*.

Yes even the job's descriptions sound similar lol. 😂 Shouldn't be exactly the same of course. We need some differences. Since like the next trend are robot drama, legal -judges theme, and office drama - secretary.

Anyway, for this drama, would love to see it on the other way around -the male lead is the secretary. It would be interesting and funny to see PSJ as a secretary and what more, as the only male secretary in that company.

I thought at first that he's the secretary I wish it is, it would be kind of original and more entertaining.

I'd rather get another one at this. Someone who could do cold would suit this just fine, PSJ is too much of a cutie for me 😊😊

The story doesn't really sound that exciting but then again a lot if dramas sounds generic (or odd) if you try to sum them up in a few sentences. The fact that the book and webtoon is popular speaks to its advantage so it could be very good so long as they're able to adapt the story well to suit a drama.

I really disliked his character in She Was Pretty. But if this is better written then I'm not wholly set against the dynamic. I'll have to wait until we know more about the drama before I make my decision.

If Park Seo Joon accepts the drama I hope Kang Sora can play the secretary. She was the super part-timer in Revolutionary Love and would like to see her play the role of secretary that can do anything for her boss haha. They are compatible both visually and acting wise.

I prefer same age, the dynamic will be more fun. But I don't mind noona or younger lead as long as the age gap is not like the couple in Goblin.
Why do you not prefer noona romance?

The one who play the Secretary will give an impact toward the drama that's why we need a decent actress instead just a bubble pretty face on screen lol

I super, super second the Lee El suggestion(gosh, I wanna see that woman in more things!)!!!

At first, I was excited when I thought the male lead would be the secretary, when I read he wasn't, I was like, "great, another cold bossy jerk for the long-suffering female lead to melt". But the picture of the webtoon below shows a hottie, competent secretary, not a bumbling candy who has to be schooled by the geeeeenius(because, u just know he'll have to be) male lead. So now am excited because Lee El will fit that role perfectly.

This sounds like Jugglers, i am enjoying Jugglers so the plot interests me, but making this a watchable and enjoyable drama depends on the actress they choose, Beak Jin Hee is amazing in Jugglers you can't dislike her character no matter what she says or do, please choose a good actress.

If only Baek Jin-hee isn't in the Jugglers, she will be my first choice for this drama, and it would be a reunion with Park Seo-joon. I'm thinking this might be a noona romance because she is working for him for 9 years, let say if she had experiences in other places before that, so her experiences will be more than 10 years, then her character might be in 30s.

If she is older, Lee Yu-ri sounds good for this role.

I want the secretary to be older, let she be the capable, steady and reliable one with plenty of experience and wisdom to support the male lead.

For actresses, if it is younger, how about the actress that played Bok Shil in that Seo In Gook drama? She has a way of making you sympathize with her characters. Or Lee Sung Kyung , who is very glamorous and is tall so she wont be easily dominated by the male lead(I hope).

For older, I'm coming up short. All the good ones I know are much older than Park Seo Joon, they'll have to change the male lead to mid-thirties for it to be more balanced. Actress like Kim Hee Sun, Lee Yo Won(omg, she'd be awesome as the badass secretary!) e.t.c.

There are a lot of capable actresses in the early and middle 30s for such role if they are going to make the secretary older such as Seo Hyun-jin, Seo Ji-hye, Lee Yu-ri, Kim So-yeon etc etc etc. Even in 20s there are a lot too so I don't think it would be difficult to find someone who fits. Nam Ji-hyun (Bokshil) is awesome but I heard she is going to finish her study first. Lee Sung-kyung is a good choice too but she already considering another drama, so this might not be possible I guess. Lee Yo-won would be good and she definitely suitable to act as a badass secretary. I'm assuming both characters are in the 30s or Park Seo Joon's to be late 20s because it has been 9 years they worked together.

Lol, I know actresses in their thirties but I, all of a sudden, couldn't name a single one.
I like your suggestions. Just caught a couple of episodes of My Daughter, Su Baek Hyang(is that correct?) and I can definitely see myself sticking to this one if its within reach(Oh where to find the time???). Seo Hyun Jin was endearing. Who is the actress that played the second female lead? Such a bitchy face, perfect for hating and I'm gonna enjoy doing just that!
Han Groo? Only saw her in CWGM(such a frustrating but satisfying show). I still can't pin her acting prowess but I heard she's good.
I wish Yoon Eun Hye would consider shows like this instead of all those melos.
How old is Jang Nara? She works well with younger actors and love to see her in a bossy, glam role.
Han Yeri, too big?

It's King's Daughter Su Baek-hyang 😊 That was one of Seo Hyun-jin's best drama imo, although yes the epi is so long but it is paid off. The second lead is Seo-woo, lol she really has that bitchy face. It would be fun to love-hate her.

Han Groo was good and fun to watch in Marriage Not Dating. She is taking break now after giving birth to a twin, so not sure when she will be back though.

YEH is at her best in romcom, but maybe she wants to branch out than romcom. But a romcom will be great for her comeback to be honest, not some robot drama.

Jang Na-ra is in the middle of 30s, oh now you mentioned it, Jang Na-ra is a perfect choice too and she definitely works well with younger actors. I can't remember when was the last time she worked with similar age / older actor. lol.

Han Ye-ri is doing well in chungmuro and I think she might not really up for this kind of romcom but who knows, it might be a good change.

I think the reason we all didn't like Park Seo-joon's character as much as we could have in She Was Pretty was definitely because we had to constantly compare him to Choi Siwon's incredibly oddball and endearing character! I love Park Seo-joon, he's very talented and great at a variety of genres. While this show doesn't sound that interesting in summary, with good actors it could be a good watch. Or maybe it could become the hit of the year. Just look at Because This Life Is Our First: same contract-marriage plot we've seen millions of times before, but with great actors and a scriptwriter who took common plot tropes and changed them around almost perfectly. Am I getting ahead of myself? Maybe. But I do like PSJ and always hope that every new drama surprises us in a good way.

on the other hand, if PSJ has to be cold, moody and egotrippin´, I´d prefer he didn´t. he is just not convincing at all as a cold and selfish person. it felt so off in She Was Pretty, too, like "You tryin´but I aint buyin´". As soon as his character stopped being cold, he seemed a lot more natural. He was born to do smily, kind, selfless, supporting, warm types.

His character in She Was Pretty wasn't really all that well-defined. He was really shouty and mean to the heroine. Then almost as if the plot required it, he softened up. He also looked really young for the part at the time, so it was hard to take him seriously as a boss of this international magazine. I really like Park Seo Joon, and I also think he may be too young for this role too. I'm imagining someone older for the characters. I also prefer Park Seo Joon in jock type roles. I actually fell for him during the beginning episodes of Hwarang.

9 years together. Even if he were parachuted in as a VP (most likely...not expecting too much reality from a webtoon) he'd have to be in his early thirties or older.

Seems like a 30-something drama. Hope for the best that it doesn't turn out to be 30-somethings with the mentality of teenagers (looking at ya 20th century boy and girl)

People are so weird,
I actually think PSJ has a character arc in SWP and he is good from unlikeable to likeable
siwon character is nice and no harm so people like him but he never understand the female lead, backdown with joke whenever he is in trouble [1-2 times is okay but too much and cowardly],
I find people just like him because he doesn't do anything wrong but completely disregard what the main character has gone through and change because well people never change ah, smh
