Bona offered lead in KBS’s Your House Helper opposite Ha Suk-jin

KBS has a new webtoon adaptation drama on the way called Your House Helper, and the webtoon’s concept is unusual, but I totally get where the fantasy comes from. It’s about a pretty flower boy housekeeper who descends upon young career women’s disheveled and disorganized homes and cleans up their lives in more ways than one. Where can I order one and does he also cook? Ha Suk-jin (Radiant Office) has been cast as the housekeeper, which is certainly a departure from the executive directors he usually plays, and Cosmic Girls’ Bona (Lingerie Girls’ Generation) is considering an offer to co-star.

The original webtoon of the same name is an omnibus series with three seasons available on Olleh KTOON, and follows one housekeeper through the various house cleaning jobs he takes on, spending a couple of episodes on each client’s mini arc. I don’t know how the drama adaptation plans to deal with the omnibus structure of the original, but I would expect them to focus entirely on one heroine and add a few supporting clients at most. The adaptation will be helmed by PD Jeon Woo-sung of Strongest Deliveryman and writer Kim Ji-sun, one of the junior writers on The Producers.

Ha Suk-jin will star as Kim Ji-woon, the wealthy son of an assemblyman father and a doctor mother. He began a career at a major conglomerate but chose to protect his pride and ended up getting cut off from his family, and somehow ends up working as a housekeeper. He’s got a gruff personality but finds satisfaction in creating order out of chaos. Bona has been offered the role of Im Da-young, a character taken from the second season of the webtoon. She’s an ambitious intern at an ad agency trying to make up for her lack of specs and land a permanent job, whose friendly and placating demeanor gets mistaken for flirting by her colleagues.

I have no idea how an intern can afford a housekeeper to organize her life, but I’m sure there’s some logical explanation for it. I haven’t seen much of Bona but people seemed to like her in Lingerie Girls’ Generation, so I’ll keep my hopes up about her. Ha Suk-jin so often plays the stereotypical prickly boss in dramas that I can’t really imagine him as a housekeeper (the flower boy part I get, for obvious reasons). But from the few episodes of the webtoon that I’ve read, he’s just as rude and bossy… but now he’s wearing an apron and cleaning your house while judging you outwardly. And then you pay him. I don’t know, collecting a paycheck to be his assistant doesn’t seem so bad now.

Your House Helper has been scheduled in KBS’s Wednesday-Thursday lineup following Mystery Queen 2 and Suits, which puts the premiere in June.

While I like the idea of a "Mister" housekeeper, I can't help but notice his chaebol roots. *sighs* Ha Suk Jin, I do like the actor, but he hasn't particularly stood out to me yet? Love his suits though - Let's Eat, Something about 1%, and Prolematic Men. Always in a suit. ^^; Colours, patterns and everything.

Also, glad to see Bona taking another role. I'm one of the people speaking well of her in Girls Generation 1979 and I have hopes she'll make this one work. ^^

His character in Radiance Office was a wee bit different, and almost relate-able. He had good reason to be initially distrustful of the female lead. He was efficient but not a geeenius, and definitely wasn't super rich. (Also, I have the warm fuzzies about that drama more generally.)

Oh - and great suits in Radiant Office as well. ^^ I only saw a couple of episodes.

So basically you're saying we can expect a different take on grumpy and efficient in this role. ^^, I'm tickled at the thought and looking forward to it.

Speaking of suits (clearly I can’t seem to shut up when it comes to Radiant Office), another bit I loved is that the female lead would wear the same skirt suit till she was made permanent. Only then, there was more variety in her wardrobe (which included a gift from her bro as well). So, a far cry from a Candy with an array of labels in her wardrobe.

That's one of the reasons why I liked Radiant Office,it was a quite realistic and good drama.

Radiant Office is a great office drama. Go Ah-sung is excellent, and yes, Ha Suk-jin's character doesn't have a chaebol or rich background.

from what i know, she did quite well in LGG. And honestly speaking, there are way more idols out there who pick up lead roles right from the get-go. there are also actors/actresses with little to no ability yet are always being casted here and there. i think bona is rising up quite quickly but it's not unreasonable to the point where we should assume she's being sponsored.

She did great in Lingerie Girl's generation and I liked her even in the best hit so I am not sure where your comment comes from.

I do find it weird too. Since she's neither in a big 3 company (RV's Joy) or a trending girl group (I.O.I Chaeyeon/Sejeong) and is not a hot topic online (Twice Tzuyu/RV Irene). Her role in The Best Hit was also not career-changing like Suzy's in Architecture 101 to warrant her immediate rise to leading lady status. But then I went to research her group and apparently they are managed by Yuehua, one of the biggest entertainment companies. So it's not surprising they are gonna buy a few drama roles for certain members of the group.
Even if she does have a sponsor, it's not that surprising imo. Isn't the concept common in the industry?

The plot reminds me of Radiant Office where prickly, rude, and bossy Ha Suk-jin is prickly, rude, and bossy Ha Suk-jin and Bona here is Go Ah-sung as the struggling contract worker who lacks specs. The difference being instead she cleaning his house, now Ha Suk-jin cleans hers.

If the show includes interesting characters like a couple of hapless interns similar to Lee Dong-hwi and Hoya, I am in!

I still can't picture these two as a pairing but all I need is Ha Suk-jin. He didn't really stand out as an actor in my eyes, but he is consistent. I rather have an actor who is consistent in his acting in each of his role, rather than good in one role and back to be bad in next role. I mean if you can't have a mind blowing acting, at least give a decent performance is enough. He also seems to be aware of his limitation, so that's probably made him keep taking similar roles which isn't a big problem for me.

I liked Bona in GG 1979, but I prefer to see her in supporting roles for now. Honestly, I just wish Ha Suk Jin is paired with more experienced actress than with some rookie actress.

But it's okay I head some dramas ahead so I won't think about this one thoroughly.

My reaction:
Step 1 - reading the headline only: Sigh. He's going to play the same character again. Wouldn't it be more fun if he was the house helper?
Step 2 - reading the first paragraph: Omo. He IS the house helper. This is excellent, so happy he's doing a different character this time
Step 3 - reading the rest of the article: Sigh. He's got a 'gruff personality' and is the wealthy son. And 'rude and bossy'. Nothing changed then.

Ha Seok Jin is a typecast and I would have been sure he’s probably sick of playing the same role too, if I actually knew him. It doesn’t give him enough room or opportunities for growth but I remember watching an actor or actress - it’s a vague memory - talking about how they’d been typecast for playing the villain and when they wanted to break out by refusing villain roles offered to them, it backfired. I remember them saying they didn’t get any roles for a long time so I’m guessing he probably isn’t getting any other types of roles.

Type casting works (and I think it is for him) in the since that similar roles have subtleties that actors can delve into to make a better, juicier role. Everyone seems to like him the most in 1%, where he was nice jerk (in my opinion, anytime he wasn't being a jerk, he was just regular nice), others like him as high-quality trash, but I liked him the most in Radiant Office because there was this dorky level to the character that seemed winning.

I can immediately think of someone it worked for--Namgoong Min. Type-cast as bland second lead, then as villians, then as quirky. And Gong Hyo Jin is typecast as kind of an every-woman character (she's a better actress, the only reason i think it's harder to notice she IS playing the same character over and again, with a bit of variation in Temper. As a writer I feel its pretty blatant) with some exceptions here and there, mostly in movies.

I'm sure somewhere deep down I'm rooting for Ha Suk Jin to move onto other roles, but at theeeee sammmmemememmeme timemememeee I NEVER WANT HIM TO STOP DOING THIS ALSO. I always end up loving him. A lot of actors play jerks and I hate them. He's one of the few I dont.

" A lot of actors play jerks and I hate them. He's one of the few I don't."

Same here. Maybe it's the writing or maybe it's HSJ. His characters can be jerks at first glance but there's always a dork beneath and a very funny one at that.

I will always remember his character in Once Upon A Time In Saengchori. He played a math genius who crunches numbers like cornflakes. Obviously the guy suffers no fools so that's the jerk part. Well, one day he got hit by lightning and poof went his mathematical ability. I swear every time he secretly got out his pre-school maths book to practice, I laughed so hard.

In 1% of Anything, I hated Premium Trash until he got Lobbed by a Lobster by his Premium Date.

I think I don't hate his characters because he always make them funny. They were never meant to be swooned at or romanticized when they were being jerks.

I’m also one of the people who enjoy him in this role. He seems to know his way around and he’s not bland. Radiant office, too, was my favorite of him. He was different. But as a fan, I also wish I could see him in other things. It’s just because many actors have voiced their thirst for playing versatile roles and how it fulfills them so as a fan (and because I tend to really internalize or overempathize as my teacher said) I worry that he’s being too caged especially since I’ve heard it’s too hard to break out from a cage. Otherwise, I really do enjoy him and the examples you mentioned. Like Gong Hyo-jin, she’s a romcom queen. Her characters aren’t always similar and even if they were, she has her own magic going on.

It's true that HSJ often acts the same kind of role but the stories are different so it doesn't bother so much (and he's sexy and smart in the real life a big plus :p)

Visually I don't think Ha Suk Jin makes the best flower boy. He looks too manly and kinda old for the role. I would think Lee Jong Suk and Ahn yo Seop have a very flower boy look.
Also the lead girl has a very youthful look compared to him so again have reservations regarding the couple visually. However, I hope they prove me wrong and I can eat my words lol.

Seriously I'm tired of getting disappointed by dramas since 2017 LOL. 2016 was such a fun year. But I feel like I have been in a semi-slump since 2017. I still watch a LOT of dramas but it feels more like a chore rather than pure enjoyment. A lot of them start good but lose steam halfway. I have watched and given a try to almost all dramas this year but nothing really has impressed me. C-dramas on the other hand have been better recently along with a few J-dramas.

It's funny what you say about C-Dramas. I think they're getting worse with time. Dramas with more than 45 episodes with too much dragging, filler episodes, flashbacks, nothing useful happening, bad script, bad edition, bad direction and bad acting.
I'm thankful China is ar least doing very good to great web dramas at least 4 projects a year which can be considered as above.

I used to love J-Dramas. I went on hiatus on them and I need to go back to them asap.

I thought Bona was not as good in Lingerie Girls’ Generation as the 2nd lead - Chae Seo-Jin was. I am so tired of all these idols waltzing their way to leading roles, while we have far better 2nd leads who are more deserving than them.

I know that the stations want them in for their following to influence the ratings, and also to help them out - but I really do think they need to get used to starting like everyone else - in supporting roles, then 2ns leads, before advancing to leads. It is only fair - to both us the viewers, and the good actors in 2nd leads, who deserve promotions to leads.
