Premiere Watch: Stove League, Crash Landing on You

This week we have two more dramas to look forward to: an underdog story and a much-awaited blockbuster.

Stove League

Time slot: Friday & Saturday
Broadcaster: SBS
Genre: Sports
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: Fresh off his success with Doctor Prisoner, Namgoong Min’s jumped back into the thick of things in this baseball drama Stove League. The premise of the show revolves around a baseball team that’s been languishing at the bottom of the league for years. In an attempt to turn things around, Namgoong Min is brought on board to manage the team. He’s the hotshot new boss, and though he wants the best for the team, his interpersonal skills (or lack thereof) make work a bit awkward for his colleagues and subordinates, Park Eun-bin and Jo Byung-kyu. It seems that everyone’s working towards the same goal of pulling the team up higher in the rankings, but Oh Jung-se, the grandson of the team’s original manager, has a different agenda in mind. Will a new manager be enough to save the team? It looks as though this will be a classic underdog story with a baseball twist, so even non-sporty people will be able to follow and enjoy the scheming and striving of all the players.

Crash Landing on You

Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Romance
Episode count: 16 episodes

Reasons to watch: A grand, sweeping romance starring two of dramaland’s biggest stars? Count me in! Sohn Ye-jin and Hyun Bin headline as two people from different worlds. Sohn Ye-jin is a famous South Korean heiress, whereas Hyun Bin is a high-ranking North Korean military officer. A gust of fate brings them together, as Sohn accidentally lands in North Korea while paragliding. Hyun Bin discovers her and protects her rather than turning her over to the authorities. Love blooms between them but there are countless obstacles ahead. Of course there the political aspects, but there’s also the fact of Hyun Bin impending arranged marriage to Seo Ji-hye. Further complicating things is Sohn Ye-jin’s former paramour, Kim Jung-hyun. A foreign-born socialite and “businessman,” Kim Jung-hyun lands on the wanted list after getting caught embezzling huge funds. He decides to run away to the one place the South Korean police can’t follow: North Korea. While there, he meets and falls for Seo Ji-hye, which makes for one complicated love square.

I’m interested to give Stove League a shot! I feel like since Extraordinary You and Nokdu ended, I’ve just not felt compelled to watch anything. I haven’t even finished Nokdu yet (yikes, I know, but I am going to get the Bean before Christmas, I swear!!!).

Anyone have any recommendations/warnings about anything currently airing?

VIP is surprisingly well done, but it is sad. I also like woman of 9.9 billion, but this is also pretty sad and depressing. I am watching Chocolate, but I'm still on the fence about it, but some beanies really love it.

Woman of 9.9 Billion did look good from the trailer I saw, but I’m not sure if I want to get on the sad train right now 😂 Maybe I’ll give Chocolate a try since it’s on Netflix (gotta love convenience!).

"A gust of fate". That's @yyishere! I can't wait for tomorrow, for whatever the winds of change bring!

I just checked out the first episode of STOVE LEAGUE, and apart from the first 10 minutes, I understood most of it (baseball ignoramus here). So far it seems like an office drama with a sporty twist.

A gust of fate. Hm. I must say that's an improvement on A Strange Wind. Looking forward to seeing myself and Hyun bin. Rope and Parachute should be zipping over here soon to give us new updates on their stirring roles.

I'm not sure I can. I'm barely hanging on here. I'm unravelling. I'm all undone.

Do you like appear in one scene only, or do you appear consistently? Are you like tethered to Parachute or Hyun bin? Questions. Questions. I am a force of wind OUTSIDE Hyun bin, to make it clear. They wanted me to be an expulsion of air from Hyun bin's - well, never mind - just know that I said NO. Even a professional like me balks at certain gut-wrenching cameos.

I'm on the parachute at first but have been promised an ongoing minor role. Still awaiting scripts, you know what a live shoot is like.

Looking forward to both of these dramas. Though I feel like stove league might become an underdog and capture my heart

Why all the interesting dramas are in the week-end? The only one I follow in week is VIP and the ML is the most boring character who barely speaks...

I know right. Now the only drama left to watch on the other days is Psychopath Diary. Went from watching two dramas a day to this.

I watched Stove League ep 1. And I'm intrigued. The 2nd ep preview gave some Jdrama vibes. I'll stay for now.

AFTER THE PARACHUTE LANDS

SYJ: Hey, mister.

Hyun bin: *STARES* *SMILES SLOWLY*

Hyun bin: *SMILES* I talk...only when I want to.

SYJ: Oh? *BATS EYELASHES* You're talking to me...does this mean...

Hyun bin: The last time I talked was five years ago. I've spoken more to you in the last five minutes than in the last five years.

ME: *SNAPPING ANGRILY* WOOOOOOOOOO

SYJ: Looks like a storm is coming.

Hyun bin: *WINKS* "SMILES SLOWLY* Yeah, a storm is coming all right...*RUBS FINGER THOUGHTFULLY ON LIPS TO AND FRO IN THAT SWOONWORTHY HYUN BIN WAY OF HIS*

That was quite an impact you did in the premier episode, bringing together our main leads and springing everything into action. I like how the drama ontrpduced all the characters in the first episodes. I hope the pacing remains fast yet interesting.

Does anyone know if Crash Landing is plan as a single or multi season drama? It's a Netflix special so I'm paranoid it'll suffer the same fate as Arthdal and Vagabond.

Guys. Pretty much all of the dramas that Netflix has the exclusive streaming rights to have the "Netflix Original" tag. The Lies Within was dubbed a "Netflix Original" and it had a full ending.

Chill.

I liked the premier episode of Crash Landing on you. It was simple, no fan-fare, no slambang action, no heavy drama, just a few tropes here and there, with a slight touch of dry humor (Hyun Bin style) but it holds some promise. Well, if anything, I can stare at Hyun Bin's face and marvel at the amount of charisma he has for over an hour without blinking.

I apply this same thought process when I watched Train to Busan and focused on Gong Yoo's face on any scary parts. It helped that they zoomed in on his face at those crucial moments too.

omg crash landing is hilarious. Only half an hour through and its a major winner. Hyun bins acting is on point. Huge talent and consistent. Sohn Ye jin is a terrific cast and delivering her part damn fine too.

haha, I don't know but I agree. Although I think its just his shape at the moment. In ep 2 you can watch him in a long sleeve to get an idea. However, beyond looks, he is really good

I have read other comments that say the way HB looks at SYJ you can tell they must be dating in real life. Since I only read subtitles the first time I couldn't notice that, but I'll go back to look for it. But it might be that he just has a total crush on her and likes her way more than she likes him.
I love both of them.

I love the way she says (while she runs away escaping) : your looks, you are totally my type!
Hahahahaha you got to like a female lead that says out loud what WE ALL think right at that moment - unanimously agree!

Wonderful blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?

I'm planning to start my own site soon but I'm a little
lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like
Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I'm completely confused
.. Any suggestions? Thanks!
