Hospital Playlist: Episode 6

Half a year has passed by since all five friends have started working under the same roof. As daily life at the hospital continues, the show takes a step back from the patients and focuses on the relationships between our doctors and their hospital staff. With some old memories resurfacing, we learn more about our five doctors and how they’ve become the friends they are now.

EPISODE 6 RECAP

As Song-hwa comes in to work, Ik-joon rides up to her on his bicycle and asks the “parking master” to put away his bicycle since he needs to use the restroom. While he scurries away, he shouts at her to buy him coffee, and they agree to meet in the lobby.

At the café, Song-hwa finds two of her residents sleeping at a table and sits next to them. Ik-joon joins them and teases Seok-min by pretending to be a grim reaper that’s here to take his soul. Still drowsy, Seok-min takes the joke seriously, and the others jump in to correct the misunderstanding.

The conversation turns to summer break, so Seon-bin asks the group about their ideal one-year vacation. Song-hwa’s dream year would be moving to a coastal city that’s not too big or too small… and work at a hospital. Even in her dreams, she still wants to be a doctor who gives her patients her undivided attention. As for Ik-joon, he would go clubbing and shopping every day if he was single. Unlike Song-hwa, he proclaims his love for Seoul (neon lights over stars).

Ik-soon texts Joon-wan, promising to respond in 72 hours, but when he tells her that there’s no rush, she changes the wait to a week. While he laughs to himself as he texts her, Jung-won enters the office, talking to Rosa over the phone.

He apologizes for not accompanying her during her medical exam, but Rosa yells at him about the hospital policy requiring her to have a guardian present. In the hospital lobby, Rosa switches over to her polite voice to ask for directions, but to Jung-won, she returns to her annoyed tone.

Before Jung-won leaves the office, he asks Joon-wan if he’s dating and chuckles at his friend’s obvious behavior. Clearly unaware of his actions, Joon-wan stares at him flabbergasted and wonders if his friend is a physic. Heh.

Ik-joon checks up on a patient during his rounds, and the patient asks if he can eat food. Ik-joon allows it and plays along with the man, saying that he can smell the food already—except that he really does. Turning around, Ik-joon catches his elderly patient about to eat before his surgery and stops the act just in time.

The elderly patient’s wife chases after Ik-joon in the hall and hands him a canned drink as an apology for the ruckus. The nurse intervenes on Ik-joon’s behalf and explains to the wife that they aren’t allowed to receive gifts from patients. However, since the drink is a token of her apology, Ik-joon accepts it just this once.

Ik-joon heads to the VIP ward with Nurse Song and the GS intern—who wanted to tag along—and in the room, they’re surprised to find Go Ara reading a script (aptly titled “Patrasche” which was her character’s nickname in Answer Me 1994). After Ik-joon gives her a brief overview of her father’s condition, Go Ara offers to buy him a meal, so he suggests that they have lunch today.

In the PICU, Jung-won examines a baby who needs a liver transplant, but chances seem slim with no word from the coordinating center. Gyu-wool tells him that she informed the parents, emphasizing her improved bedside manners, and Jung-won tells her that she did well. Since the situation looks bleak, he decides to talk with the mother, and in the hall, she looks distraught with only one slipper on her foot.

Ik-joon takes Go Ara to the cafeteria where he watches her take big bites of her food. He comments on how much she’s changed, which makes her wonder if he broke up with her because she didn’t eat. He corrects her since she broke up with him, but she mentions the multiple times she tried contacting him after their breakup.

While they talk, a few doctors drop by their table, gawking at the celebrity in their midst, and by the third time, Ik-joon mutters under his breath about the annoying jerks who keep bothering her. However, once he sees that the admirer is none other than Jong-soo, Ik-joon jumps from his seat and changes his tune.

Jong-soo and Rosa ask the actress for a picture, and Jong-soo insists on taking the selfie himself. After multiple failed attempts—and many cute poses from our ladies—an annoyed Rosa tosses the phone over to Ik-joon.

Afterwards, Jong-soo escorts Rosa to the parking garage to drive her home, and she berates him for acting stubbornly back in the cafeteria. While Jong-soo searches for her car, Rosa remembers that she took a taxi and falls to the ground in a fit of giggles. Jong-soo joins her on the floor, and the two of them laugh over the silly mistake.

Seok-hyung hesitates before calling his mom, but when she answers, he doesn’t mention his father’s mistress or the pregnancy. Once he hangs up, he finds Jung-won sitting next to him and sighing over his baby patient. Jung-won laments his inability to give up despite everyone else preparing for the worst, but Seok-hyung encourages him to keep trying.

Song-hwa and Joon-wan eat lunch in her office, where both of them talk with their parents. While Joon-wan has to convince his mom that he can’t afford her expensive bathtub, Song-hwa persuades her parent to get hearing aids by claiming to have gotten cheap ones. Still on the phone, Joon-wan massages his temple as he hears about his younger sister, an aspiring actress, who recently changed her name from Jung-yeon to Yeon-jung. Heh.

Ik-joon drops by the office with some boiled eggs, and a few seconds later, Chi-hong enters as well. Ik-joon invites Chi-hong to stay for a while, calling him “brother-in-law,” and gives him a brief history of Ik-soon. According to Ik-joon, his sister has only ever received love and has never loved someone first until now.

As Ik-joon asks Chi-hong to accept his sister’s feelings, Joon-wan smashes eggs into his friend’s head… twice. A silence falls upon the room until both Ik-joon and Joon-wan grab each other’s hair and fight like toddlers on Song-hwa’s couch.

Looking disheveled, Joon-wan munches on an egg while Song-hwa laughs at him for acting like a child. Joon-wan explains that the description of Ik-soon was actually Ik-joon’s biography since he’s the one who has never loved someone first. He mumbles about the siblings causing him trouble and shuffles out of the room to look for “instinct.”

Joon-wan pops his head in the neurosurgeon residents’ office to look for “instinct” (aka, Jae-hak), but his resident isn’t there. He grumbles about Jae-hak’s misfortune since he always misses the moments when he’s trying to be nice. Heh.

Instead of his usual hangout spot, Jae-hak is in the cafeteria to join Bong Salon. Looking over at Chi-hong, Jae-hak expresses his envy since the neurosurgeons have a nice mentor, which leads the group to discuss Chi-hong’s background. They debate over why he quit the military, and when Chi-hong points out that he’s right there, Min-ha tells him that they only gossip in front of people, not behind them.

Today’s session with Dr. Bong is about the five friend’s hobbies. First up is Joon-wan who loves golf so much that he would even play a round with his mortal enemy, but while Joon-wan practices putting in his office, he’s more interested in his phone and the lack of text messages. Then there’s Jung-won, who has a sport for every season, and on the other side is Seok-hyung: a complete homebody.

As for Song-hwa, she enjoys camping, and in her office, she jumps up in glee while unpacking her new camping gear. Last on the list is Ik-joon who does everything well, from sports to cooking. Over the weekend, Ik-joon makes ketchup from scratch at home, but in the end, he adds store bought ketchup to his homemade one. He brags to Woo-joo about the food he prepared for his son’s girlfriend, but Woo-joo tells his dad that he wants jajangmyun, instead.

Jong-soo hangs out at Rosa’s house and photographs her flowers to look up their meanings. When Rosa suggests that he take her picture, he complies, and then tells her that a meaning came up for her: “youth is gone.” They burst out laughing, and Jong-soo teases her as he retreats into the house.

Min-ha meets Gyu-wool at the elevators and sighs over her friend’s summer outfit—the same plain t-shirt every day. She wonders why Gyu-wool looks especially tired today, so Gyu-wool explains that she has menstrual cramps. She then checks her “reflection” on Min-ha’s shiny skin. Pfft.

Min-ha retorts, “My mom said that fashion people can’t recognize isn’t fashion,” to which Gyu-wool responds, “My mom said to tell friends if they’re going down the wrong path.” Hahaha, no wonder these two are friends.

Jae-hak’s first, lead surgery goes well with the occasional advice from Joon-wan, and when they reach the end, Joon-wan acts as the “polite” assistant and asks for permission to leave. Jae-hak replies informally, but switches back to formal speech to thank his mentor. Joon-wan admits that Jae-hak did better than he expected, and his resident smiles—well aware of Joon-wan’s style of praise.

In the general surgery residents’ office, twin medical students Hong-do and Yoon-bok sit alone at the table as different doctors go in and out of the room. Meanwhile, Jung-won prepares for a surgery when a nurse notifies him of his baby patient’s worsening condition.

After successfully completing his first surgery, Jae-hak calls his wife to brag, but cuts their conversation short when he spots Joon-wan. He follows Joon-wan through the halls, telling him about his new lease, and Joon-wan warns him to be cautious of scams.

Jae-hak advises Joon-wan to be cautious of Dr. Chun, instead, but Joon-wan dismisses his concerns since he’s uninterested in gossip. He tells his resident to scram, but Jae-hak adds one last comment: Joon-wan is dating, right? He noticed Joon-wan staring at his phone and pokes fun at him for not reading between the lines—if she hasn’t texted back yet, then she rejected him.

Ik-joon stops by the residents’ office where the medical students are, and he introduces himself as the cafeteria worker who gave them a lot of sausages. He asks about their musical taste, and while Hong-do likes IU, Yoon-bok enjoys older music like the band Zoo. Ik-joon marvels at their shared interest, but before he can talk some more, he’s called away.

As he leaves, Ik-joon tells the students to hang out in the café since they’ll be bothered by all the doctors coming in and out if they stay here. Experiencing the whirlwind that is Ik-joon, Hong-do wonders if he’s a comedian, but Yoon-bok appears to admire our chatty doctor, calling him “Dr. Romantic” (as in Romantic Doctor Kim).

In the lobby, Nurse Song grabs drinks with Gyu-wool and gasps at the resident’s swollen face. Even Ik-joon, who happened to pass by, stops in his tracks and orders her to go to the ER. Gyu-wool insists that she’s fine despite her face doubling in size, but she suddenly can’t breathe and faints.

Seok-hyung meets with a couple in his office and explains to the wife that she has a condition where her blood doesn’t flow well. This would explain her previous miscarriages, and Seok-hyung prescribes some shots to help her through her current pregnancy. Through her tears, the wife asks if Seok-hyung is used to these kinds of diseases—interpreting his calmness as indifference—but he corrects her, “Miscarriage isn’t a disease.”

He tells her that a lot of his patients ask him what they did wrong but, just like the patient here today, it’s not their fault. The patient thanks him for his kind words, and in the back, Min-ha also looks touched by Seok-hyung’s response. Once the meetings are over, Min-ha offers to buy lunch, and leads the way to the cafeteria.

Joon-wan buys two cake slices to eat by himself, but hearing a code blue over the intercom, he grabs the buzzer and runs to the room. By the time he arrives, the doctors at the scene have already taken care of the patient.

As he leaves, Joon-wan meets Dr. Chun for the first time, and the other doctor calls him the “big shot” in their department since he’s part of the VIP ward team. Joon-wan keeps a straight face as he listens to his comments, and Dr. Chun acts chummy as he asks Joon-wan if he likes golf.

Since the cafeteria is packed, the OB/GYN team splits up, and Min-ha sits with Seok-hyung. She broaches the topic of the lady he met in the garden, and Seok-hyung wracks his brain trying to remember what she means. When it finally dawns on him, he answers, “Chairman Yang Tae-yang’s mistress.”

He tells her that the whole hospital probably knows, but he isn’t bothered by it because this has been happening since his school days. Min-ha hides her smile and reaches out to help Seok-hyung grab a side dish. At that moment, a spot appears next to them, and Ik-joon swoops in for the seats with Jung-won.

Ik-joon notices Seok-hyung’s clean tray and comments on how he shouldn’t be picky with people either. Seok-hyung reminds him that they’re in front of his resident, and Jung-won asks Min-ha if she’s friends with Gyu-wool. At the mention of her name, Ik-joon tells the others that Gyu-wool is in the ER right now, which sends Min-ha rushing out the door.

Gyu-wool wakes up in the ER and finds Min-ha sleeping by her bed. Feeling much better, Gyu-wool checks her phone, and is stunned by a text message from Jung-won… with a smiley face. She asks Min-ha if this means that he might like her, but Min-ha bursts her bubble: if he liked her, then he would have come. Min-ha asks if Gyu-wool likes Jung-won, and Gyu-wool holds back her tears as she says that she does.

In their office, Jung-won and Joon-wan get ready to leave when Song-hwa calls Jung-won. She asks if they can meet tonight, and both of them agree since they have time. After hanging up, Jung-won wonders if something happened since Song-hwa sounded like she was trying to be brave.

At the restaurant, Song-hwa tells her friends about her biopsy and that she’ll get the results tomorrow. They offer to call friends and family to hear the results sooner, but Song-hwa stops their meddling, explaining that this was the reason why she kept it a secret until now.

Her doctor agreed to meet with her an hour early since she has meetings with her patients in the morning, and Joon-wan scolds her for considering missing her own meeting in order to work. He offers to come with her, but Song-hwa shoots down his idea.

Ik-joon leaves the restaurant early because of an emergency operation, and on his way to the hospital, he talks with Go Ara over the phone. She invites him to her filming site, and he agrees to come if he has time in the morning. After finishing the surgery, Ik-joon walks to a convenience and buys some canned drinks before hailing a taxi.

Sitting in the hospital parking lot, Song-hwa waits until it’s time for her appointment, and the only thing she can do is pray. As the time approaches, she walks into the quiet building and stops for a moment at the sight of Ik-joon outside the office. She asks why he came, and Ik-joon says that he couldn’t sleep.

The nurse comes by to tell them that it’ll be another ten minutes, and Ik-joon hands her some drinks as a thank you. As they wait, Song-hwa asks what would happen if it is cancer, and Ik-joon’s response is definitive: he’ll fix her.

Song-hwa smiles at his comment, realizing how powerful a doctor’s assurance feels to a patient. However, this only confirms her conviction that doctors should never guarantee anything because if something does go wrong, then the patients would feel devastated.

Song-hwa answers a call from Seok-hyung, and Ik-joon is shocked that their friend knows how to make calls. Song-hwa tells him that he calls her quite frequently, which reminds him of the day Seok-hyung confessed to her. He tells her that he had drinks with Seok-hyung that night, and afterwards, the police called him to pick up his friend who they found sleeping on the streets.

She chuckles at his story, but then realizes that Ik-joon knew about Seok-hyung’s confession all along. She asks why he pretended to not know, and he claims to have only known about the crush. Their conversation ends when the nurse comes out, and the two friends nod at each other before entering.

Later that morning, Song-hwa hums at her desk. One-by-one, her friends stop by to ask about the results—the way they open the door reflecting their different personalities—and she tells them that it’s benign. The last one to visit is Ik-joon who brings her a coffee.

At band practice that evening, Joon-wan talks with his mom using an accent, but when he joins the group, he returns to the standard dialect. Song-hwa is amazed by how much Joon-wan and Ik-joon have changed, but Ik-joon argues that Seok-hyung was the worst back then.

Seok-hyung disagrees and demonstrates what the two friends looked like by crumpling up a napkin and stomping on it. They scowl at his performance, but the other two join in on the fun, pointing to different items that their friends resembled.

Back when Ik-joon and Joon-wan came to Seoul for their university entrance interviews, they gawked at the convoluted directions and overpriced bus fare. To get smaller bills for the bus, Ik-joon went to a street vendor (getting caught right away that he was from elsewhere despite his attempts at a Seoul accent) and bought a scrunchie.

At the interview site, Song-hwa sat next to them and overheard Ik-joon tell Joon-wan to cut his side fringe because he heard that neatness was the key factor this year. Though it took them a few tries to understand Ik-joon, once they got it, Joon-wan ran to the bathroom and Song-hwa looked for a hair tie. Seeing her struggling, Ik-joon handed over the scrunchie he bought.

In the present, the band plays “In Front of City Hall at the Subway Station” by Zoo, and everyone sings along during the chorus. Rewinding back to their freshman year orientation, Ik-joon and Joon-wan were the firsts to leave the room, and seeing them exit, Song-hwa followed after them.

Jumping forward in time to Song-hwa’s birthday and the day Seok-hyung confessed to her, Ik-joon accompanied Seok-hyung to a restaurant for drinks. Though he asked Song-hwa to meet with him beforehand, Ik-joon canceled those plans to stay with his brokenhearted friend.

Completely drunk, Seok-hyung parted ways with Ik-joon and made himself at home in the middle of the street. Fortunately, the police found him and brought him to the station where they called his most recent contact. Ik-joon was still drinking at the time of the call, and in a nearby garbage can, there’s a discarded birthday present and card for Song-hwa.

At the hospital, Ik-joon finds Chi-hong and hands him a coffee in another attempt to make him his brother-in-law. Chi-hong drops some hints that he like Song-hwa and tells Ik-joon that he’s just friends with Ik-soon like Ik-joon is with Song-hwa. Ik-joon refuses to accept defeat and admits to seeing Song-hwa as a woman on occasion.

Chi-hong laughs at his comment, and then explains that Ik-soon is still hurt from that incident and doesn’t trust anyone. Ik-joon looks surprised by this news, and sits in his office, lost in thought, when Joon-wan bursts into the room. He offers to pay this month’s utility bill, but Jung-won already paid it. Noticing his friend’s glum expression, Joon-wan asks what’s wrong, but as Ik-joon starts to tell him about his sister, Joon-wan finally gets a reply from Ik-soon.

Escaping to the hall to check, he sees that she texted him, “yes,” and he playfully asks what she means. She tells him that today is their first day as a couple, and Joon-wan skips down the hall. Composing himself, he calls Ik-soon and crouches on the ground laughing as they make plans for their date.

Jung-won receives news of a donor for his baby patient, and he quickly informs the parents. They burst into tears, asking if their baby will live, and Jung-won says that she will. As he waits for the liver, Gyu-wool calls him and says that the liver is too big. She asks him for guidance, but Jung-won doesn’t hear a word as his arm drops to his side.

COMMENTS

It’s amazing how much detail the creators have put into their characters from the main cast of friends to the supporting roles. Even the cameos are filled with little jokes and references to other things! While it isn’t necessary to catch every detail to enjoy the show, it definitely adds to the amusement to see how much care was put into certain lines and actions. Even throwaway comments that were meant to be a joke come back and add relevant information. One example was with Yoon-bok who calls Ik-joon “Dr. Romantic.” Back in episode three, Jae-hak asks the twins who they consider the best doctor, and her response was “Romantic Doctor Kim.” In that moment, it was a humorous scene since the students name fictional characters as their ideal, but this bit of information comes back in episode six, showing just how much Yoon-bok might idolize Ik-joon even though their encounter was short.

We can also see this attention to detail throughout the episode with Ik-joon and his past crush on Song-hwa. One bit of foreshadowing was when Ik-joon says that his sister hides her crushes (letting it fester inside her), but as Joon-wan claimed, this description also fits Ik-joon and his secret crush on Song-hwa back in college. What may seem like one-off scenes actually connect with each other and give insight to these characters in future revelations. For example, before the scene where Ik-joon shows up to Song-hwa’s appointment, the show has a moment between Gyu-wool and Min-ha that mentions being present as a means of affection. With this in mind, it’s possible to take the message from this scene and then apply it to Ik-joon’s behavior, interpreting his actions as a sign that he might still love Song-hwa as more than a friend. However, the show also provides another interpretation by linking his actions to the grandma’s actions (the guardian from earlier in the episode). Though it also serves as a PPL scene, it might not be coincidence that Ik-joon acted in the same manner as the grandma who gave him the coffee, indicating to the audience that Ik-joon is really there as her friend and guardian. Regardless of which camp you might fall in (friends versus potential love line), it’s obvious that Ik-joon and the rest of the gang love Song-hwa and their friendship is genuine.

From the initial phone call where Jung-won noticed that something was wrong just from Song-hwa’s tone to the scene where each of them dropped by her office to hear the results, the show reiterates just how much they all mean to each other, especially Song-hwa to the guys. She isn’t some love interest that the friends battle over for her attention, but a dear friend who’s integral to the group. She’s a friend, first and foremost to them, and their bond isn’t weaker just because there’s the possibility of their feelings blossoming into something more. I loved the way the show depicted her friends’ responses to the news and how varied yet similar they were to one another. Joon-wan is the only one to get mad while Ik-joon is the only one who refuses to even entertain the thought of Song-hwa being sick. But it’s also this “old” friend pair that either offers to show up or actually does show up at the hospital to be with Song-hwa when she hears the results. As for Jung-won and Seok-hyung, Jung-won tells Song-hwa that she should have come to them for the test (which emphasizes how he tries to be of service to his friends), and Seok-hyung tries to lighten the mood (who would have thought!) by talking about how her doctor is considerate and telling the others that everything will be fine. Like the other pair, they also share a similarity by offering to call someone to get her results sooner, which may reflect their wealthy background. I was worried about the show brushing past this incident without much fanfare, but it was the opposite. All her friends deliberately check up on Song-hwa the next day, and I loved watching them all rally around her to put her needs first. Though Dr. Bong called her the emotional pillar of the group, clearly her friends are her emotional pillar as well.

Besides the five friends, I really enjoyed the odd friendship between Gyu-wool and Min-ha as well. Initially, they seemed like opposites, and I questioned the closeness of their bond, assuming that they were more like colleagues than friends. However, this episode showed that they really are good friends who care about each other as evident by Min-ha’s actions when she heard about Gyu-wool’s allergic reaction. They have a cute banter with each other, and surprisingly, both are great at trading barbs. They’re also my favorite part of the Bong Salon, which might be a permanent piece to the show now. It’s interesting to hear Dr. Bong’s insights on the five friends which are usually information the audience already knows, but upon further evaluation, he misinterprets a lot of their character as well. In some ways, he acts as a red herring, reinforcing the initial impressions the audience has of the friend group, but later on, the show dismantles some of these prejudices. Joon-wan seems like a prickly jerk at first but is actually a sweet guy who’s a bit gruff with his expressions. Ik-joon acts like he’s never had any troubles in his life, but is actually the type to keep his emotions tightly guarded and deal with issues by himself. As for Song-hwa, she might seem perfect to the world, but she’s just another flawed human being to her friends who needs their attention and love.

I already liked this show and each of the characters in the penta-team, but this episode pushed me over the edge to a full-blown, head over heels love. This episode proves that their friendship is real, true, authentic and not easily broken, because it has been tested by pain and forged by time. I was heartbroken when Ik-jun set aside his feelings for Song-hwa because Seok-hyung confessed his love first. Although I would ship them as a romantic couple, I can be happy with the thought that they can grow old and still be great friends like Jong-soo and Rosa.

This show is so rich in characters and you're correct, even in dialogue. I am eagerly anticipating future episodes!!

So far, this is my favorite eps.

I'm glad to see that even after we've been introduced to several definitive and could-be couples, the romance never interfere with the drama's focus on precious friendships. Nothing demonstrate it better than the ceaseless support Song-hwa received from his 4 friends as she deal with her health problem. They worry, fuss over her, give her support, celebrate the good news together with her, and joke around to lighten the mood. They did that in their own distinctive style, and I love that other people can recognize it for what it was. Not only the 5 friends, we also got story about great friendship from other characters as well. Rosa and Jung-soo grow old together with their friendship, familiar bickering, and sense or humor intact. It's just super nice to see them having someone who can truly understand what it means to face old age and laugh about it together instead of lamenting their lost youth. While Min-ah and Gyeo-wool's brand of blunt conversation continue to be as amusing as it was sweet.

I have to say I really like the way they handled the romance story. It felt very slice-of-life somehow. Sometimes you fall in love and become a couple with someone you've known for a long time. Sometimes you get tangled in a one-sided love for various reasons. And sometimes you like someone who likes you back, but bad timing and everything else outside your control put a stop on your possible romance before you even started. I like the "lack of goal" I can feel from the romance portion of this drama. It's not really important who'll end up with whom, as long as they are happy with it.

I really love Gyu-wool and Min-ha's friendship! I am rooting for these women to succeed in their love lives, but at the same time, I have a feeling that only one of them will get the guy and we're in for a heartbreak.

It was really nice to see Seok-hyung opening up a little to someone.

Ik-joon giving Song-hwa the scrunchie was really cute! I wasn't really shipping Ik-joon and Song-hwa at first and I am in for whatever love line these two characters are going to get, but this episode made me ship them!

And Joon-wan being the cutest person after Ik-sun said "yes"? I NEED MORE OF JKH ACTING CUTE.

P.S. Jung-won is the purest thing. I need more of him.

there are some "details" in this episode(well in other episodes too) that can be unnoticed if youre not korean.

1. Min-ha holding the side dish(kkaennip jangajji) for Seok-hyung
Kkaennip jangajji is basically pickled perilla leaves that are served like a stack of cards. Due to the fact that they are leaves and soaked in soy sauce, sometimes it can be quite bothering to separate a leaf from the stack(it is not recommended to have more than one at a time because it is salty already). So if you happen to sit in front of a person who's struggling with the leaves, you can help the person by holding the other leaf that is attached to the leaf that the person is trying to have. The problem is, the act of holding a leaf to help someone is considered so intimate to the point that you should not do it unless you're a family member or a loved one(even close friends dont do that because it is just weird). There was even a post in an online community that asked whether the poster should consider the act from his friend as a signal that shows his friend is considering him more than a friend. So basically the scene tells us that Min-ha is attracted to Seok-hyung.

2. Joon-wan & Ik-jun trying to go to Seoul National University at Seoul National University Station
The station is called Seoul National University Station in english but in korean(서울대입구역), it means "SNU entrance" station, which confuses a lot of people who's visiting SNU for the first time because in order to get to SNU from the station you have to walk more than 30 minutes(and even after 30 minutes, the university is so huge that you are just at the real "entrance" and you have to go more). So basically you cant find SNU at the SNU station. Nobody knows exactly why the station is named that way lol. There is even a saying in SNU community that there are 3 types of idiot in SNU and one of them is the one who tries to find SNU at the SNU station. So when Joon-wan said, "Why do we have to ride a bus to get to SNU when we are at SNU station?" I chuckled a bit because it shows that they'd never been to Seoul before.

@randomkorean,
Many thanks for explaining the intimacy inferred by helping someone separate plastered-together perilla leaves. I would never have guessed that. I learn something new every day here at DB. Please continue to clue us in on cultural context. ;-)

LOL at "SNU entrance" station being a nice aerobic half-hour walk from the subway exit. Talk about misleading signage. Oh, wait. I'm revealing that I commuted to college in New Jersey during the Lower Devonian. Before dumb handphones, let alone smartphones with GPS. Whenever I ventured into Manhattan, I always went armed with my trusty paper Hagstrom street and subway maps. ;-)

The boys reaction to Song-hwa’s result the next day was the cutest! Joon-wan’s was epic! And his reaction to Ik-sun’s yes?? Swoooooooon~~~

As much as it was hinted in the earlier episodes of Ik-Jun and Song-hwa ship and more this episode, I can’t get myself behind this yet. I expected too much that there will be no romance between the five friends that I found it a little disappointing despite the hints. Maybe I’ll get into the ship in the later episodes but for now, Island of Neutrality.

I don't know how will the writer lead the story between Gyeo Wool and Jeong Won in the future, and though I like how cute her crush on Jeong Won is, at the moment I cannot see how are they compatible emotionally. Jeong Won seems to possess a high level of emotional intelligence, whereas Gyeo Wool seems to lack them quite a lot. Jeong Won is very mature and Gyeo Wool is like a lovesick teenage girl who would immediately jump into a conclusion that he likes her from just a "^^" smiley in a message. Hence Minha was there to guide her back to reality. He was seen worried when knowing about her being in the ER, and rightly so - he'd be a jerk if he's not looking concerned when knowing someone working under him falls sick. If the writer really intended to make them as a couple, I think they'd have to really make it very convincing how compatible they are emotionally because at the moment I can't see it yet.

And I have never seen this coming but I fell head over heels for Minha this week. That cool, suave move of holding down the perilla leaves for Seok Hyeong? My my I swooned. Prior to this episode, I didn't view her much favourably, I think? She seemed rather trivial and her badmouthing Seok Hyeong's behaviour made me rolled my eyes. But I realised how over time she was shown to have come to understand Seok Hyeong more and more, so does her admiration towards him build up more and more. After her failed attempt at confessing last week, I like it how she still decided to wait and clear things up first. And that chopstick on perilla leaves move? Girl is smooth.

But JeongWon did notice GyeWool & MinHa being friends and always being together... Why would he keep tabs on her... And I think no one knew they were besties bcoz IkJun told about GyeWool only when JeongWon brought her topic... He seems to be warming upto her & trying to know her this is what I feel... And who knows he would have visited her too considering his nature but both GyeWool & MinHa were asleep..

He is warming up for sure since they have been working for a while, yes. But is it a romantic or is it as a work colleague? And even if he visited her, it cannot be a complete indication that he likes her. Her other GS professors all visited her. Did they like her too? And those who have watched Reply 1994 would know that a display of grave concern from Najung when she cries as she ran while worrying sick about Chilbong - it still didn't mean she likes him.

And still, my concern maintain. I don't see them having the emotional compatibility or if they share any emotional connection. The EQ gap between them is jarring. He is highly emphathetic, can easily perceive others' emotion and very mature, compared to her.

That's why to me, if the writer really want to make them a couple, they'll have to be very convincing in showing that the two really have emotional compatibility which I am not seeing at all at the moment.

I thought the same thing - the writer likes to give us one way of seeing things but then in flashbacks shows us the "truth". In this case, I think we'll see that JeongWon did come and visit her..at least that's my hope :)

I agree with you..
I feel that the essence of both (Gyeol and Jeongwon) is the same(they care about others, they are simples, they inexperienced in love ).
The Gyeol's social skills can be worked...
I Shipp them...

Simple is the word I would describe Gyeo Wool from the way she thinks too, but it's not the word I would ever describe Jeong Won. He is very opague and is a complex person. And about being inexperienced in love, Jeong Won is said to have a love in his 20s so we can't know for sure if he is truly inexperienced or not. It's hard to say that both of them are the same in essence because they are very obviously different from each other

Hi.😉
I was referring to the inside no the outside ..
They aren' t simples ( sorry) I wanna say there're austere.
In which episode did you see that he had a love in his 20s? I think that he started to love Jesus..jajaja.
I have a crazy idea- he was adopted..

0

@ Lilo yes, I was talking about their inner sides, not outsides. They are not the same in essence when it comes to their inner sides.

In his character description on the official homepage, it is said that he had a love in his 20s and fame in his 30s, but both were not as brilliant as his dream to become a priest.

0

Yes and in Episode 4, I think, there was a small scene wherein there was a conference bet Jeongwon and Seokyong where Gyewool is also present as well as the interns. Surreptitiously, Jeongwon gave Gyewool a chocolate. So I think there's still a chance between them.

I don't know if Jung-won is THAT mature, hahaha. As his friends all know, Jung-won is especially petty. I read a comment somewhere that Jung-won has trouble being too emotionally attached to his patients while Gyeo-wool is very straight-laced and objective when it comes to patients. She didn't flinch or hesistate to pull off those maggots of the patient with the rotting leg, or chase after the abusive father barefooted. I think as doctors they balance well, though I do wonder how they would fit as a romantic pairing.

Jeong Won is mature, from the way he holds his principles and his thought process (re: every doctor has their own story, etc). Being able to remember in detail the person who wronged him (lol), or to protest over how selfish and inconsiderate his friends could be are hardly an immaturity. Yes, Jeong Won has his own flaws and his own demons to deal with especially regarding his over attachment to patients, but that too, is not immaturity.

I don't know about her being straight laced because we are not shown anything that suggest it yet but Gyeo Wool being not squeamish about helping a patient with the maggots truly is impressive to me. Her thought process is rather simple - to get the job done and help the patient. But for chasing down the abusive father, in my view is not something commendable - she thought of it so simply, she wore her blinders and straight chasing him without even thinking whether it is even necessary, whether it dangerous or will have implications etc.

I think Gyeo Wool can grow more and learn better as a doctor under Jeong Won because compared to her other profs in GS, he didn't coddle her and can guide her well with skills she is still lacking.

I like Gyeo Wool - she is an earnest person and she is so cute with her crush. But I don't see how her and Jeong Won having emotional compatibilty romantically and would make their relationship functional - it's like seeing a rather a complex, mature man who is rather old in mind and a very young, lovesick fangirl at heart. But that's my view at the moment, who knows if later the writer can really convince me otherwise.

Uju and dad is totally hilarious. I don know if that an adlib from JJS or not when he fall when Uju ask for jajamyeong instead. It's funny and adorable. It's sad about Ik Jun and Seol Hwa miss opportunity but I love the bigger picture from this. Their friendship is priceless and valuable. Minha wise word to Gyu Wol 'if he loves you he came' reflected to others relationship in this drama. It's funny but ironic.

I really like JJS in this, his character and his acting to potray it, just loove!! <3
and his relationship with u-ju, soo adorable, warming my heart :))
seriously, in ep 1, i thought songhwa is u-ju's mom, with the way she treat u-ju and her way of 'introduce' ikjun to other doctors (and to me, haha)..so it's not a really big surprise to me to see songhwa and ikjun's "past" ..

some people have highlighted how rosa and JS frienship foreshadowing ij-songhwa's, but to me it is also easily can be all 4 boys to songhwa, JS was said to be married happily to his wife, but a very good and close friends to rosa (who was said to be married not for love/romance),,and I can see how the 4 boys be having such relationship with songhwa,,and among the 4, for me it was jung wan who resembled the most (at least now), since he's so smitten to iksun, but obviously love songhwa..(it could be a source of 'conflict' for his budding romance with iksun, if iksun's past has anything to do with her distrusting guy's loyalty).

I hope the show keep it's warmth vibe, it has been a good show especially during this tough time, I want send my big thanks to the cast and crew, you're awesome!

This is something that highlights how much work the writer-nim has put into this show. Everything is connected to other things in it, and one very good example of this is the sentence you typed. My heart ached for Gyu-wol because I think I was once in her shoes. Gyu-wol's situation is directly opposite to that of Song-hwa: Ik-joon didn't make any promise or even say he would be there but he just was there with her. That's a real deal and shows how much he loves/values her/their friendship.

(Apologies for the above comments. Something must have been wrong with my internet connection so they became two separate comments instead of the replies to another comment of a Beanie.)

Now, let me type my thoughts about this episode.

1. There are many things I like in their stories, but my highlight for this episode is the relationship between Song-hwa and Ik-jun when they were at the university. I, for one, didn't foresee that before, and I just couldn't feel it when beanies said that these two fit one another. It hit me so hard when I saw the gift Ik-jun had bought and intended to give to Song-hwa on her birthday. It hit me even harder when we all saw Ik-jun cancelling his meeting with Song-hwa to be with his friend who just got turned down by her. This, teaches me that sometimes, the timing was just wrong, and it affected everything. This is something we have no control over, and I think its nickname is 'fate.' And I especially liked it when I saw Ik-joon was there with Song-hwa when the rest of the friends didn't. In the most difficult times, you see the brightest star in the sky. I have no complaints whatsoever if these two will become a couple. If they end up not being one, I believe this friendship will be somewhat of a soul mate in the friends version which they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

2. I agree with comments here that I found Min-ha and Gyo-wol's friendship somewhat strange and fascinating. I never liked Min-ha because she just has that sort of traits that I just don't like: judgmental; however, seeing her rushed to see Gyo-wol right away even in the middle of a meal with her crush really made me see her in a new, different light. Moreover, when she just bursted that bubble Gyo-wol still had regarding Dr.Ahn's feeling for her gained me respect. I would like to have a friend like this too -the one who tells you right away when something is not right.

3. My heart ached for Gyo-wol. It's indeed true that if he had feelings for her, he would have come to see her in the first place. I have a feeling that I am seeing another version of myself back around 12 years ago when I had a serious crush on my first (and only boyfriend.) I did everything Gyo-wol did because I thought he would like me if I did something good. That's why I feel for this character so much, and genuinely wish her a happy life even without Dr.Ahn even when it is merely a show.

Something that bugs me includes:

1. I sensed it from my first watching that the act of helping Seok-hyung with his side dish should be somewhat intimate (as confirmed by one above comment), but doesn't this indicate also the feeling of Seok-hyung towards her? He is an absolute introvert person, yet he allowed his resident to help him with such an intimate matter. I won't make any predictions, but I feel like this couple may go quite a long way. (He even told her right away about the mistress of his father. Will you be able to tell another person such...

..personal story if you aren't that close with them? This, somehow, feels a bit strange and out of Seok-hyung's character for me. I still feel a bit odd about this sudden change of personality of his. (He still couldn't sit with them at the cafeteria. Or should we interpret that as he was melt by their 'surprise BD cake' at the hospital. I actually interpreted that scene as him being angry because he was dragged away from the birthday party his friends had prepared for him..)

Great point about fate, I completely agree. Then again, with fate we get to have happy Ik-jun with his son U-ju, which is something he would never trade the world for.. (OK hol' up i mean, 우주 = universe! He's his universe!!)

I also agree on the point of soulmate friends. You see in the credits scene they always have a picture of them 5, with the actor's name on it -- this episode, you see the comfortable intimacy between Song-Hwa and Ik-jun. It's a strong friendship that stood the test of both time and... feelings! Hahaha..

And who says a man and a woman can't be just friends?! The friendship in this group is more than just saying hi and hello, but being there for each other most of the time. The men take care of Song-hwa like their sister. The one that got me in this episode is the way Rosa giggled when she forgot that she didn't bring her car!

I love all the characters and now after 6 episodes I feel like we settled into the hospital and have a good idea of most of the characters.

I would watch Ik Soon and his son all day. They are just so adorable. I love that U-ju(?) has some of the quirky sense of humor from his dad. These two are such a hoot!

It’s always nice to see the friends make time for each other and their easy banter.

Do we really have only 6 more episodes this season?? 😭

This show really has my heart; I get nostalgia for a time and place I've never been before, and am touched by the friendship (which is not mine.. hey, ouch) between each of them in the main cast and in the supporting roles. I actually feel an even deeper depth to the friendships played out here than PD-nim's Reply series, I suppose because we are looking at mainly matured friendships that have stood through the test of time. Seriously, Jong-soo and Rosa as BFFs are literally old people friendship goals. They are hilarious! I love every scene with their old people banter - even making fun of aging in this ep as they laugh squatting at the carpark, and with the photos. My heart is so warm.

I mean, we see all of them in seriously high stress situations, none of which are an easy feat to go through. To have such a strong support system is crucial to keep them going. We are in a circumstance where the bulk of them (cough cough) are single, not (exactly) tied down with family life, so they are all able to balance on friendship and career while making sure their career doesn't eat up their life. OK I kid. Their careers as doctors doesn't eat up their life, neither does it give them time to eat, clearly.

Also, I enjoy that our main cast is of older age and we actually see how matured doctors react and speak to patients (in which I must say, Ik-Jun is really the best! My second favourite is Seok-Hyung. He surprises everybody with his thoughtfulness, really.)

For all the times the show leans to a cliche that could have happened (right from episode 1 on the inheritance, and this time we had a close call on cancer) I am glad they chose to resolve it differently and rather put focus on the other (more realistic, I guess) pains of the hospital life. I really love the team's attention to detail on matters like being students in the hospital: Most hours, you can't do anything yet, so you just sit around waiting for something to do. The seniors coming by and asking about their name, state about their student status, and asking about what their parents do. I am no med student, but that must have been #relatable.

Anyway, I haven't commented on DB for more than a year. Came back just to read commentary on the gift to Chae Hwa and I think @lovepark connected all the dots in this episode perfectly -- thank you. I love your attention to detail, even comparing it to the scene of Gyeo-Ul and Min-ha. I also agree that I was (pleasantly) surprised by their friendship, and even in reality I agree that opposites attract. I think I am more of a Min-ha kind of person and my close friends are more like Gyeo-Ul. Haha!

And there we go, a few more days to the next Playlist. I will work hard with the things on my plate until then, inspired by this passionate team of doctors.

I am speaking for my friends and I who have been on DB from the older days say, 5-7 years ago -- we no longer visit DB with all the changes in the recent years as well as rate of reviews. Back in the day the recaps came out less than 24 hours after, and we would all swarm over to share our thoughts. Now it is no longer the case, so I do think a lot of the existing fans don't even see this recap.. I was happy to see it posted! But even for this recap, it was posted like, 4-5 days after the episode was released?

Ummmm,ok it makes some sense. Really recap comes late. But the thing is if I watch other DB recaps for other dramas e.g the king eternal monarch , there are so many comments. So this is why I was mad that people should show support to their favourite actors & drama by coming here & posting.

It also depends on patterns of viewers and it's demand, the kind of viewers certain shows attract. Shows like The King pretty much headline the K-dramas on Netflix and they get a range of viewers, plus it is always being recommended so there are many viewers that start later (than its initial release) too.

I do think Hospital Playlist is one of those that don't target the bulk of these Netflix viewers -- a lot of them in for the cheesy troupes (think Crash Landing and Itaewon Class LOL sorry), and for the fair number of loyal fans to Hospital Playlist, we watch the episode earlier than the posting of the recap.

I happened to watch late for episode 6 since I had been busy the whole week, now I'm done with episode 7 and .. no recap 😂 So ya! I might probably forget to comment once recap is out, it really depends.

Also, I only came back because I wanted to read about the gift bag in the bin. Glad that there was a DB recap available. I missed DB!

Thank you for your recap, @lovepark. This is another great episode that had me smiling from ear to ear, especially at the Jong-soo & Rosa Show. LOL at his "language of flowers" pronouncement of “youth is gone.” Har! Kim Kap-soo and Kim Hae-sook are terrific. They remind me of my folks at that age.

Here's hoping that we learn more of their back stories. It has only been 6 months, if that, since their respective spouses died. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they eventually tie the knot, but I don't necessarily expect it to happen in the next 6 episodes. It could happen in season 2, which I'm crossing my fingers for. Or maybe they'll surprise me and decide that 65 years is a long enough slow burn. ;-)

I was surprised by the revelation that Ik-joon had planned to get together with Song-hwa on her birthday before Seok-hyung turned to him for moral support after she turned him down. (I can't imagine how much guts it took for him to ask her out in the first place.) Ik-joon's loyalty to the latter was very touching. Talk about a class act. In a similar vein, I thoroughly appreciated how all of them supported Song-hwa while she was awaiting the biopsy results.

The music in this episode is dandy. I've posted Zoo/Dongmulwon's “In Front of City Hall at the Subway Station” on my fan wall along with the OST version, plus some vintage selections that would be great additions to the BGM or the band's repertoire. I can easily imagine The Sawbones rocking out to Zoo's "I Will Love You" and Sinawe's “Farewell To Love.” The date range of the posts is April 17-19, 2020, the latest being this protest song by Magama:

Just keep scrolling down to the earlier entries.

I posted ep. 4's “Variations on the Kanon by Johann Pachelbel” by George Winston on April 2.

Ep. 3's OST Part 3: Jo Jung-seok's "Aloha" was posted on March 31 here:

On the same date I posted 2 versions of the original "Aloha" MV by Cool, and the New Zealand tune "Pokarekare Ana" which appears in one of them. Plus several entries for the Korean song "Yeonga," based on "Pokarekare Ana," which was used in the OSTs of SISTERS IN LOVE / WOMEN OF THE SUN and BRIDE OF THE CENTURY. It's kind of a pain to scroll down for them. I wish there were an easier way to access older posts on the fan wall.

I remember when I sister had first started as a trainee doctor....there was one time when a seizure patient had passed away and she could not tell right away, she came home and cried her eyes out.....Jung Won's situation, I sort of get it. We never really think how much mental strength it takes for a hospital stuff, doctor, nurse or first responder to do what they do day in day out. Dealing with patients, deaths and loss........this is why I like this drama. It doesn't blow it out of proportions....it hurts, it makes them feel bad but you brush it up and move on and keep doing what you do. I also like how each four friends rallied around Seong Hwa.....no overreaction, they are doctors and they were concerned but reacted well. It also shows how hectic the job in question is and how it doesn't necessarily pay well in the beginning, it takes almost half your career to get to phase where you are paid well and can afford to buy a house. I also like all the micro relations. Min Ha and Gyu-Wool....they are very different but good friends...I liked that Min Ha did not beat around the bush about what it means that Jung Won send a text instead of a visit. Its realistic, Jung Won, with his devotion to God strong enough that he is willing to become a priest is unlikely to be fazed by Gyu-Wool when she doesn't necessarily express herself as well as others. I mean its a long shot. Also, I really hate it when everybody in professional relationship in hospitals are sleeping around.......I mean it happens a lot in hospitals, a lot.....but I just don't think the five friends will do that...which is why I don't see Min Ha's crush working out either anytime soon.....they all like drawing firm boundaries. I also can't picture Ik Joon and Seong Hwa ship sailing this late in the game, its not impossible but how does it start. Go Ara's cameo was actually very good.....it almost makes me wish that Chilbong gets his happy ending here in this alternate universe with her. Now to Jung Kyung Ho, how does he do that. Switch between a thanos like heart surgeon to a mushy cute puppy in love. I have loved him since he played Doctor's Son in Heartless City and my love for him only grows with each of his new project. I can't wait to see how Ik Jun deals with the revelation that his sister is seeing his best friend. I expect a very funny reaction.

Somehow, I find myself rooting for every single ship that comes out, even if they destroy previous ships. Also, I don't think Gyu-wool will get together with Jungwon and I don't think he will be a priest either? I'm curious to see where his story line goes!

Loved this episode. I appreciate how they handled this little bump. Of course it's good news we're all expecting but how we got there was more important. It's how God throws something that shakes up our life and make us stop and reflect. Like how Songhwa reiterated that it's not good to make promises to patients. Even that was a source of enlightenment. Because of Songhwa's health issue, we also discovered how strong she tries to be and how she really is; Ikjun's feelings--then and now, the deeper bond between these 5 besties, their varying response to something bad that might happen to any one of them. Anyway, I can't say enough. I just love this drama.
Aaaand my ship has sailed. I've always though that Songhwa has had feelings for Ikjun since forever but only suppressed for whatever reason we don't know yet. I didn't expect that they mutually liked each other. Talk about bad timing. I hope having Captain Ahn will stir him up a bit and make him realize that he still loves her and cannot afford to lose her again this time. Please, show.
I'm happy for the guys as well. Giddy junhwan is such a sight. I'm pretty sure Jungwon likes Gyeowool too..
Hospital playlist continues to increase in ratings because it continues to show a lot of heart. It deserves this love and much more. Thursday, please come fast!

Thanks for the wonderful recap, @lovepark . I hadn't made the connection between IJ being there for SH and MA statement that if you like someone you show up!
It really boggles my mind how nuanced the show is while being so busy with characters.
*Min ah & Gyu Wool's friendship was soo cute this episode. Their banter at the elevators was hilarious and I think that the best thing to came out of Bong salon, are these polar opposites cute friendship. GW looked like such a wounded puppy when MA let her down gently but I'm glad they have each other to rely on while navigating through their seemingly one sided love interests. I like how even after last week's disappointment, MA looked to get a read on SH's love life by actually asking him. And SH seems to be warming up to her as well and seemed a bit disappointed when she hurried over at the news of her friend in ER. JW on the other hand is harder to get a read on. There's the fact that he had noticed who GW usually hangs with while it looked like news to busybody IJ. And he definitely looked alarmed learning GW is in ER. But like other beanies, I m still torn if he just considers her as a promising Hoobae doc or is actually interested in her romantically.
*I kiled the replay button for the lunch scene 😂.Poor IJ was being such a good oppa, wing-manning his sister, while JW was silently seething beside him. that crack of the egg , their hair pulling and Ahn and SH shocked reactions were all so LOL worthy.
*I'm a bit concerned about IS-JW. Her bff thinks she's not in the right headspace to date yet and her oppa seems concerned. Waiting to know more about her past.
Meanwhile JKH is killing me as JW. His reactions are so OTT violent and funny. How's he managing to be so chaotic and cold at at the same time..His antics when IS accepted his offer to date were soo cute.
*We learn more about IJ and SH ill timed connection(?).Gotta admit, I was expecting all 4 friends to gather around her on her consult day and thought that's why IJ had bought 5 cans of drinks. I'm not complaining as we got to see a different facet of IJ-SH relationship and the other 3's ways of asking about her health were certainly super entertaining.
*Rosa and Director are goals. I am all for these two crazy kids living their autumn years to the fulest- taking selcas with starlets , looking up flower name in the interwebs, having day long weekend hangouts, what's not to love 😍

I think I agree with all your points. And did Ik-Joon buy 5 cans of drink? Oh I didn’t catch that. Does it mean that he thought all 5 of them would show up? I mean, if that’s the case isn’t the writer some kind of genius? How could he/she know what I was also expecting (perhaps Song-hwa as well) and let Ik-joon be the person who showed this? However, like I mentioned in the above comment, this really highlights the special bond shared between them two (compared with Seok-hyung who once confessed his love for her but at that moment he just made a phone call). Something is in the air, but my guess is that they would probably remain soulmate friends forever.

I really loved SH's quiet moment at the car park. It was doubly hard hitting as she is this super woman who has it all. But in her moment of crisis, she's alone in that empty parking lot, rallying herself up to face the music and Mi-do did such a good job of conveying SH's fears and vulnerabilities in that silent beat.

Question: When Ik-Jun comes in with the boiled eggs and does the "Gyerani wasseoyo" cry, is that a reference to the egg truck scene in Reply 1988? Or is that just a Korean thing?

"Gyerani Wasseoyo" was kind of a catchphrase used widely by egg vendors. When visiting a village on a particular day of a week or a time of a day, egg vendors with their egg truck would shout "Gyerani Wasseoyo" with a megaphone and that was the sign that the villager should come out and buy eggs. "Gyerani Wasseoyo" simply means "The egg has arrived" but the intonation the vendors used was not ordinary(like an old news announcement) and quite the same throughout the country, making the phrase like a symbol of egg vendors. The vendors existed until like mid-90's but with the appearance of easy access to local grocery stores and large markets, they disappeared. I was born in late 90's and never heard the phrase in real life lol but I know the phrase because the phrase is used quite widely in kdramas like a sign that shows the drama's timeline is in the past. Also the phrase is a popular example of "generation gap" in Korea.

Just drop by to say how much I love this show. The writing is brilliant! Everything falls into place nicely. The characters are lovable and relatable. My favorites besides the fab five are Ik-Sun, Gyu Wool, and Rosa. The actors are soooo good and we can feel the great chemistry, but can I just add that I love JKH more? He's just so good in fleshing-out the grumpy-jealous-warm-inside character. Well, what can I say, he's my bias ;p

One thing I have noticed about Cheon Myeong Tae is that during the code blue situation where they were calling for cardiothoracic surgeons, Jun Wan sprints towards the room whereas Cheon Myeong Tae just strolls in holding a drink in his hand. For me this feels like a sign of how Cheon Myeong Tae isn't exactly a good doctor/

I get very concerned every time someone warns Jae-hak about the scams. I fear that the writer is foreshadowing something.

The moment Ik-joon said to Song-hwa that he will fix her if she had cancer, tears just appeared in my eyes. It was a sweet moment. If the just stay friends ill be more than happy.

Really loving the dynamic between the friends here. The way they support each other is lovely. Already in love with most of the characters and their quirks.

This show is so addictive that to create a new account here because I forgot my account after 5 yrs of sporadic lurking.

Interesting co-incidence. Short story, when we were in Korea in Sept, my wife heard about Zoo and became a fan. Then we saw Reply 1988... Hyehwadong and now, In Front of City Hall. Both extremely enjoyable shows and the songs really supported the scenes. Both with female leads being the center of 5 friends. What lucky groups.

I will be searching to complete the Zoo trio with a show that features I Choose to Love You.
