Explosions galore in new teaser for Sisyphus: The Myth

Fantasy action-thriller Sisyphus: The Myth has released its first teaser, starring Jo Seung-woo (Forest of Secrets 2) and Park Shin-hye (#Alive). This upcoming drama was made specially to commemorate JTBC’s 10th anniversary.

Jo Seung-woo plays a genius engineer who is trying to find the creatures that live amongst humans, while disguising their real identities. Meanwhile, Park Shin-hye plays his savior, who travels a long and dangerous road in order to support him.

The teaser begins with Park Shin-hye sinking in water. Then the scene cuts to her solo fighting off an entire group of men in a residential location. In our first look at Jo Seung-woo, he’s rummaging around what looks like an abandoned laboratory. In his voiceover, he says, “I saw them. We are not alone in this world…”

We cut back to Park Shin-hye who is now facing an entire army of figures with night-vision goggles. As Jo Seung-woo says, “…They were living among us,” a suspicious-looking Sung Dong-il (Hospital Playlist) is shown pulling out a gun. Jo Seung-woo continues, “They are looking for you.”

Park Shin-hye yells for Jo Seung-woo to duck. In the next scene, she’s in combat gear, shooting down those that seem to be targeting her and her father. She calls out to her father, but an explosion knocks everyone down.

A mass bombing of Seoul is shown, and Jo Seung-woo and Park Shin-hye run for their lives. She gripes at him to drive faster, but at a certain point, they need to leave the car. Cops surround their car, but they decide to jump off the bridge while holding hands. In Park Shin-hye’s voiceover, she speaks about her faith in Jo Seung-woo, “If I save you, you will save the world.”

After a gun-shooting scene, she tells him, “You stop.” He wanders with a gun while on the phone, “Let’s really finish it this time.” Park Shin-hye resolutely thinks, “We will be able to do it this time. I will change everything,” while the missiles bombing Seoul reverse course. The last scene just shows a bright light amidst a room that looks like a scene out of a sci-fi alien series.

Written by Lee Jae-in and Jeon Chan-ho, and directed by Jin Hyuk, Sisyphus: The Myth will begin airing in February on JTBC.

Because the writer and production wanted PSH. That's how it is.

Instead of... One of Korea's god tier actors??... No thanks. Besides, this isn't a rom-com (so wasn't Mount Jiri. Phew).

Bae Doona is doing another sci-fi drama with Gong Yoo. There is only one Bae Doona to go around!

PSH and JSW are killing the role. I wonder if it will be about aliens or something, because it feels like.

I want this to be good for JSW's sake, bc if he gets scared out of dramaland before FS season 3 happens (please drama gods), I don't know what I'll do.
But I think I'm going to wait and hear reviews on the whole show before watching it. I don't want to get invested in an action-packed beginning only to fade off into a nonsensical ending (looking at you God's Gift)

At least a nonsensical end would be an end. I'm more worried about get an open end and never get a season 2. That's happen so often in this kind of drama lately. But I will take the risk since I love the actors.

Here we go again..sigh.
Haters, critics and naysayers are a reflection of how sad and bitter their own lives are.
I don’t like other celebrities too but you will not see me wasting my time reading articles about them or dropping hateful comments masked as “opinions”.
I am happy that PSH is still reaping success after success amidst all these hatred.

Park Shin Hye is the best Korean actress I have ever seen in my life with perfect acting skills, mesmerising beauty and exuberant charisma. I can't believe any human being in the world would even want to think that she is flawed in any way. We should all bow down to her greatness and support this show to the best of our abilities.

Ok with that being said, I do hope the story does hold up. There are just so many fantasy elements that could go wrong: the one that stands out most to me is the Groundhog Day / Edge of Tomorrow -like sequence with the missiles reversing, that feels like the leads trying to undo some sort of alien invasion. The production value seems really high with the blockbuster feel present throughout the teaser so it does seem the director can be trusted for now but with the story looking to be plot heavy it's a ride or die with the writer's abilities.

Did she scream "Appa" ?

The end reminds me Stargate.

It looks like a big production with a good casting. I just hope the writter knows what she/he is doing.

More importantly who did she scream Appa to, I've already been burned pretty badly by Alice, I want no Oedipus or Electra complex, no thank you.

Oh...Sisyphus will air in February~ While waiting for Sisyphus to air, how about bingewatching another ancient Greek titled kdrama aka Kairos first? It's also a fantasy thriller but no aliens/monsters are involved 😆

*still in promo mode*

I hope they have most if not all of it filmed before airing. Seems like a lot of stunts and actionwork and it would suck if they had to rush that at the end. Anyways, looks to be an interesting drama. I getting a kick thinking how I had assumed PSH would fill her career with rom-coms, but she has lined up quite a few not-romance roles this year! I'm surprised to see Jo Seung Woo in another drama so soon!

In my mind, this drama was going to be different (more passive), but God the preview was great, I wasn't expecting much from the drama as I felt like there was no expectation around it, but in almost 90 seconds it really really did. wish February would come.

(I still can't relate the title to the plot, and this plot reminded me of how colonization began in Stephenie Meyer's book "The Host")

The problem with K-drama action shows or sci-fi shows is they set up this mythology, and never follow up with the rules set up in their mythology. Add to that they spend like 10 episodes or so getting to Point B, and then by that point, there's so much technical jargon that its becomes over convoluted. (Aka: Alice/TKEM). Meanwhile look at Firefly/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles/BSSG/or The Expanse. UGH. The trailer though, visceral and attention getting. I was intrigued in a good way, but is that enough to last 16 episodes for?

The Opedius Complex, lack of resolution, very poor mishandling of side characters, and convoluted mythology. Was it time hopping or time travel? Not clear at all, and their female engineer scientist character was brilliant at first, but turned into a damsel in distress. Tried to be a Korean Dark, but ended up to be a miss by too much filler plot and boring exposition.

ok just check the trailer for Alice and I can understand what went wrong lol to be honest that's the issue with time travel plots, I hope they won't go too crazy on that because there are a high chance to become a hot mess like Alice.

Well Alice was pre-produced as well as this drama was too. And Alice also starred two big name actors as well. I think even mid-way, you can't tell the direction nor quality of where a drama might go. The only Sci-fi Drama I seen where time travel was used very well, and didn't drag the whole series was Nine (Eaux at the ML, but damn that show!!).

It looks random to me, not telling anything, just random images and... 16 episodes? This teaser seems like a movie one, not a drama/

This is how I felt when watching Kairos teasers, it felt like the plot would be better as a movie and the teaser revealed the whole drama. But when the 1st ep aired and the drama progressed...my worries went away. The actual drama is way better and the plot was more than what was shown in the teaser. Maybe the same will happen to Sisyphus too~

ps: I kinda wish I didn't watch Kairos teasers/spoilers because I feel that it would add to the excitement when watching the actual episode 😆.

This is so well stated. They just never quite get the sci-fi or action thrillers right, it just becomes a terrible terrible copy of some of the worst American shows of the same genre. Here is hoping this is more like Kairos and less like Alice. I dropped Alice on the second episode because it was so bad, bit we shall see.

Aw thanks! Yeah, I feel like it just becomes a bland/generic run of the mill action drama by the end. I'm cautiously awaiting the drama, it's coming out in a month. Lol, yeah Alice. So much potential wasted. Hopefully it being on JTBC bodes better for this show. Let's hope it also has an engaging and interesting mythology that it sticks by, other than action set pieces which also have to be used well. Don't blow up your action budget the first few episodes!!

I got a weird feeling that Jo Seung-woo is playing Park Shin-hye's father in this. I don't know why.

Also, is it really necessary for female characters to wear leather jackets to be badass and cool? Every time we get a fighter-type action oriented female character, she has to wear a leather jacket.

The trailer was awesome! I just hope it will be entirely pre-produced before airing to maintain the great CGI and stunts. The leads look great. Jo Seung-woo rocks the paranoid computer genius look. That hairdo does not become him, but it sure does the part.
I'm also really looking forward to Sung Dong-il as evil, he did a great job in Real.

2. Who would be doing the wrist grabbing - the action hero or the nerd?

Looks expensive, haha. I have to say I'm a bit skeptical of expensive action/thriller kdramas... Both in terms of quality and their (in)ability to make back the production costs... but hopefully Sisyphus has more tricks up its sleeve.

Park Shin-Hye has been doing a bunch of action roles lately, and honestly, I think it's a good fit for her.
