So...happy Friday..?? 👀

I got so upset about the whole issue with Joseon exorcist I couldn't even bear to finish a drama I was binging these days ><
I don't even know why I'm being so dramatic tbh..I wasn't planning to watch the show, maybe it's because I've been hearing about it for a long time and my twitter timeline has been talking about it a lot too..

I had a discussion with a Korean person on twitter last night that just left me even more dejected, and nothing they said made me change my view on the topic either..
(Btw the main issue we talked about is the misrepresentation of King Taejong)
I still can't believe they even had a petition with thousands of signs advocating for the drama to be cancelled!
At this point why not have some sort of board for quality control, or something? Before they have in their hands a show more than half produced, just to throw it all away on a whim...

To add to this, now there are people dragging into the issue Mr Queen and its cast, which is even more ridiculous..true that there was some criticism in the beginning (plus same writer), but international viewers weren't the ones who gave the drama high/almost record breaking ratings in Korea! People loved the show till a month ago, now suddenly they're angry again??
I didn't see anyone complain about the historically inaccurate fate they wrote for King Cheol-jong (..or should I say Cheol-jo..??), people seemed to be more upset about him and Bong-hwan (well his soul) not being the endgame 🤔.

Some actors are receiving hate too, Shin Hye-sun probably getting the worst of it; brands she's been working with have been targeted too, and this one mask brand suddenly announced they would change their model (SHS) yesterday, just to flip their stance today and confirming her position once again (..for now..??).
It's madness to me!! And I'm upset!!
I might need a break from k-ent (again)! :(

Ok, end of rant! Hope everyone's drama watching experience has been better than mine recently! ^^

UPDATE: since I wrote this things have gotten even worse! Tving (kr streaming service), tvN youtube and naver tv channel have removed all the Mr Queen related content.......I literally have no words.......

most fandoms act like uncouth banshees and its more so for plastic faces. When identities can't even distinguish between virtual and real persona then expecting fandoms to distinguish between real and fiction is a futile effort.

Joseon exorcist got canceled both domestically and internationally already.
I'm sure netizens got what they wanted. What else can SBS and the production company offer?
But it looks like that's not enough. I don't know if this is true, I've read somewhere that they are demanding official apologies from actors also. Whaaat?
And Mr.Queen and Shin Hye-sun and Kim Jung-Hyun... Holy crap, seriously?
(I saw netizens will boycott future Kim Jung-Hyun's work or something...)
I don't understand that they now started attacking the other no-related show that has already ended, and they actually loved it until last month...
I wonder if Doctor Prisoner (by the same writer) get banned eventually...

Jang Dong-yoon from Joseon exorcist has posted an apology already...I don't even have the heart to read it, tbh...it's heartbreaking what internet bullies can achieve, posing as concerned citizens..

Park Sung Hoon also posted his apology...
I couldn't even read it.
Netizens will won't stop until everybody in the drama apologizes... including Mr. Queen's cast probably.

Completely agree...I didn’t find the first episode to be very engaging (almost fell asleep honestly) BUT it definitely didn’t seem like it was necessary to cancel it. Netizens blew this out of proportions...it’s almost as of “cultural assimilation” and “fiction” are not allowed anymore...

Beanies!
A lot happened on the dramafront this week. I was invited to join a kdrama mama doctor group on FB. (There’s a group for everything!) Honestly, the only reason I got in was that I said my favorite show was Goblin (the admin is a huge Gong Yoo fan—he’s her OPPA!). I discovered that quickly. Anyway, I had posted my BGM for MOON RIVER on my personal FB group (because people know I play piano there) and some random doctor colleague who just got into kdramas during the pandemic invites me. I posted a GIF of Gong Yoo thinking I was on that page, but really on my personal FB, and now I know why I never joined a kdrama group on FB in the past 5 years! Super embarrassing. But whatever, I’m OUT now. I did post something 4 years ago about GOBLIN on FB, but very minimal and in passing. I’m just glad I didn’t post the Coffee Prince half-nekid Gong Yoo GIF I also have! LOL.

I’m also watching too many dramas. I don’t know how I got here:

1. Hello? It’s Me!
2. Moon River
3. Sisyphus
4. Oh, Master (Oh, Lady Lord, Oh Jooin-nim)
5. Money Flower

I think I’ve dropped Rebel Princess for the time being.
I’m sorry to see Joseon Exorcist cancelled too. I wasn’t going to watch it immediately, but was planning on seeing it eventually.

Conversation (this one is a kdrama waiting to happen):

Hubby: So you know how kdramas are obsessed about amnesia?
Me: Yeah, why?
Hubby: I have a lady I’m taking care of that would be the main lead in a kdrama. She has amnesia every time she has ECT (electro-convulsive-therapy for treatment resistant depression). Her dad died while she is getting her treatment and every time she comes out of it I have to break the news to her that he died because she doesn’t remember that.
Me: OMG, that’s terrible.
Hubby: It is. It’s a horrible, but entirely true thing that happens. We go through the same conversation every week.
Me: How many more weeks does she have?
Hubby: SIX!
Me: So you have to tell her six more times that her dad died and she has to go through that initial shock! How is that helping her depression???
Hubby: She was psychotic before this due to depression, so it’s helping that. The medications will also work better afterwards and she’ll eventually remember.
Me: GEEEEEEZZZ.

Moral of the Story: My husband is truly an amazing person
2nd Moral: Prayers for this lady.
3rd Moral: This would be a very sad, but could be a very funny and compelling kdrama to say the least. Too bad kdramas can’t do mental health well.

We consume entertainment's make believe elements in order to escape our daily routines. But in fact, our lives are mostly made up. To tell someone they are living in their own fantasy world is partially true.

"Social reality" is our way of embracing and making sense of our environment. This reality involves people attributing meaning and labels to the objects we see around us. Alternatively, our social reality can simply make something up and communicate it and its meaning to other people and be treated as a real thing. For example, money is a social reality because people believe certain printed paper is valuable. Even your own name is social reality. Someone just made it up, and you and other people treat it as real. In fact, most of us spend most of our time in a real world of serious make-believe.

How do human brains create social reality? To answer this, researchers consider it from a brain’s point of view. For your whole life, your brain is trapped inside a dark, silent box called your skull.
Your brain constantly receives data from your eyes, ears, nose, and other sense organs. It also receives a continuous stream of sense data from inside your body as your lungs expand, your heart beats, your temperature changes, and the rest of your organs carry on their symphony of activity. All this data presents a mystery to your brain-in-a-box. Together, the data represents the end result of some set of causes that are unknown.

When your stomach unleashes a gurgle, the cause might be hunger, indigestion, nervousness, or love. The person attributes their own social reality on it, which may be false. But in today's SNS world, people make up things all the time but are received as facts by others. This is one of the reasons why we rarely have intelligent discussions about important issues because individual social realities have become stronger than being open minded and respectful of others.

Our entertainment choices may mirror our own realities than we know.

I am feeling rather upset about Joseon Exorcist. Would the drama change the drama landscape or be a revelation in terms of story or acting? Unlikely. But the cancellation just seems so harsh on a team of people doing their best to do their job well.

When I'd first heard of the show, I'd vaguely thought that "Sejong the Great: Zombie Hunter" seems like a bad idea. But the show proceeded without issue (or so it seemed to me) and so I second-guessed myself. And then it kind of blew up in everyone's face. Just feel bad all around for everyone involved at this point.

I thought it would be cool and we all know this will not be historically accurate. It seems that what really ticked people off was the Chinese influence like the hair and clothes. The writer really has big balls to do it like so when you can see it will be a scandal from miles away.

Late 2019 - Early 2020 i talked about how social pressure is put on singles to be romantically active. Its pretty visible in tv dramas. And the so much width given to being virgin or not. Everyone expects you to have a family of your own after you have reached a certain age.

I know many of my age - married and have kids. Its good.
But this doesn't goes well for everyone.

There are people who can't even differentiate being alone isn't belong lonely. Being single frees you up a lot with less responsibilities and you can be far more reckless. its only 1 life you have and that too you spend most of earning bread.

Only if you have 9 lives, then can spend 1 on having a family, forwarding your genes and enjoy the experience and warmth of having one. But, with only 1 life, investment and returns not justify to take such responsibilities.

Mother and social friends expect me to have one but i don't see any lasting benefit out of it.

And that's why i support main 3rd and 4th alternatives. They bring in more diversity of views as well as representatives from all sections of society. And that's why to support these alternative grow, i decided to provide financial support to them and i expect these alternative to create an environment where common man thrives. The upper 1% is a big hurdle and they are the ones who also control the political economy as well as has the monopoly.

I finally finished Japanese subtitles for Mr. Queen on Viki!
It was a long journey... I had been watching it every day since Dec (to make subtitles), I'm so attached to it like my little baby.
So sad that I have to let it go now.
And also super sad about Joseon exorcist... Korean netizens are out of control.
Now Netizens are on Mr. Queen too. Didn't they love that show until last month? Now they hate it?
I really hope Mr. Queen won't get kicked out of Baeksang or any awards, best drama or best actress, best actor, etc, but probably awards will totally ignore Mr. Queen's existence...
And I hope the writer won't get kicked out of the industry either. He is a very talented writer... But he won't get any jobs for a while, I'm sure.
Unbelievable.

Hi there beanies, I a few weeks ago I had revealed my wish of wanting to study abroad. I started doing proper research and realised that the tests for entry into these universities cost a bomb. I haven't given up on that desire completely yet but I have tempered it a bit. If I do not manage to study abroad, then I might go there for some study programme or work-related stuff. I am also thinking of setting up my own bank account so that I am able to get any kind of part-time job. Also looked up a bunch of online courses to upskill myself, but those that give a certificate which i can put on my LinkedIn profile usually cost a lot. Now I will have to wait for a sale on even online courses lol. I am keeping myself busy though, already have an online course (won't get a certificate though) and one that I have planned.
Also my home environment has become a bit toxic with my grandmother and my brother and I doing our best to shut the noise and focus on our work. Its honestly something I can share with my friends so the burden becomes a bit heavy to bear.
On the drama front, I watched Oh My Master and I liked what I watched. It's nothing mind-blowing but it was pleasant so far. Vincenzo episodes are so long that I seem to be putting them off.
Also Holi is this weekend so there is going to be a ton of work to do. Lets hope it goes well. Anyway, happy weekend beanies.

I have seen many people applying for some sort of scholarship, and there are a lot of good scholarships offered by many universities around the world. Many countries also give out scholarships too, e.g., Chevening (UK), DAAD (Germany), Australian government scholarships, etc. I think you might want to work part-time to gain experience, but I think it's more likely you can study abroad by obtaining one of those scholarships where all your expenses are covered.

I wish you all the very best. Just make sure that you do REALLY know in which particular area you want to study. Studying in a new environment alone is difficult enough, you don't want to top that with studying something that you aren't really happy about. I always tell people nowadays that I strongly advise people to work before they further their study. It's likely that you'll really know what you like/want once you enter the real world of working.

Also adding to the list, Fullbright for USA, Erasmus Mundus for Europe, CSC for China, Turkey Bursulari for Turkey and there are many others specific to some regions (Ireland, Thailand, Malaysia etc). I think what you're talking about Mani chan is about directly applying to the universities. Yes they will cost you some application fees however, these programs won't. They will cost you either IELTS/TOEFL fee or GRE if required. I think you should keep all your options open. These scholarships are pretty competitive so they expect a good GPA alongside a good portfolio(internships and other work experience related to your field) so focus on their requirements right now and choose your niche. what specifically your ould like to do in your masters. But I think you will only figure that out once you learn more in your degree and experiment and work on different aspects of your current profession. That helps to identify if you would like to practically do it for the rest of your life and gives you more clarity in your masters application. Jbtw one good way is to join a facebook group that discusses scholarships. Local or international doesn't matter. Most of these scholarship programs have specific facebook groups that can guide you.

Also totally agree with your second paragraph. One should absolutely know what they are studying and where it will lead them. People usually like to change fields after bachelors but it becomes tougher to do so after masters. Working full time in the niche/area/ department/field that you want to work in can give you an idea of practical life. Without that jumping from one degree to another isn't bad but will leave one right at the same place as they are after their bachelors unless they are super clear that it's what they want to follow in life. So take your time, explore and if you find yourself clueless that's totally okay too. Everyone takes their time to figure out what they want from life and what they want to give in their life. And I strongly believe that everyone has their destined time for that, mine hasn't come yet either.

Hello Beanies! Happy Friday! I hope you're all well.

We went out of town for a few days, and it was a really nice break in many ways. In particular, seeing extended family for the first time in 15 months was great.

I also stayed completely away from k-drama, so I know nothing about the Joseon Exorcist brouhaha. You're going to have to fill me in here.

I just started watching Boys over Flowers, and I'm finding it unexpectedly hilarious, which probably says more about me than the show, lol.

Finally, I'm sure you're all aware of the Ever Given-stuck-in-the-Suez Canal saga. It's actually a major shipping crisis at this point, but the internet is going to internet and squeeze this for all the meme/humor potential, I guess. Oh, and also, there's now Ever Given/Suez Canal fanfic too, lol.

Hello all:
I am seriously peeved at losing Joseon Exorcist. It was soooooooo good. I added a request for it on Netflix request. Not sure if that will do any good but who knows?

Hello Me: Still great and i love the realistic depiction of the whole corporation thing. Usually greedy nephews are horrible and usually the thieving wannabe CEO is just plain greedy. In this case, AUNT should've gotten the kingdom but ...ya know... was a woman. So the corporation went to big brother.

I keep preparing myself for a lot of resets. Resets at the corporation and resets when heroine/young version returns to the past. Am wondering how many episodes will be used to do the whole reset and if there will be drama in "the past" that will affect the future.

Navillera -- An older ahjussi story. I'm liking this vibe. I'm hoping they don't pull anything like ahjussi and his wife divorcing or some crap. It better remain sweet.

Times -- Waiting to see what all happens today.

I might watch the remake or reshoot of Ji Soo's drama since i didn't have a chance to get to it.

That's about it. I'm just so busy fuming about the cancellation of my joseon exorcist.
Have a great weekend, all

I continue to really enjoy the Chinese drama "You Are My Hero." Love, love, love, the hero Xing Ke Lei and am liking his romance with Mi Ka. However, I'm not a big fan of the secondary romance as Shu Wen Bo is a bit of a blockhead and Qing Xia deserves better than his treatment of her.

Good Morning Beanies,

It has been long time since I posted in OT. I still reading it and discord. As what is going on with K/C entertainment. It is sad. However, we must move on. I hope the best for everyone. In this case, I am only watching Brilliant Girls and Don’t Interrupt My studies. Both are really good and balance each other out for me. Rebel Princess and Sword and Brocade will catch up one day. Also, with new Korean/Chinese dramas out there. I have passed it.

In real life, I am always busy with three kids and hubby. He is still not vaccinated. It has been really difficult to get him appointment. He need it soon as he is traveling for work soon. Almost all of my side of family have been vaccinated. With my hubby side, it is him and his sister and her husband only one are not vaccinated. My mother in law and I are only one been vaccinated.

My youngest son got his Principal Honor roll award. Supper Happy for him. Ny daughter still doing distant learning. It is up/down every day. My oldest son have teenager issues. Life of parent. LOL, I just want peace and loved in this world. We are still in pandemic. Why is there is so much bullying and hate this year. The just beginning and we are not even half way this year. My psychic friend did mentioned to me we will have 3 bad years. After that, we will we good after that. We shall see... Have a wonderful weekend Beanies!!!!!

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Yesterday my colleague and I had a permission slip to go into the office so that he could teach me how the call center operates. My colleague had to whisper/sign everything that I had to say to the callers and do practically everything in my stead, which is discouraging. May is the start of the call center season at work, so my boss told me to be on duty next week as well because practice makes perfect. I however foresee two huge problems:

1) Our team is on duty whenever I am in formation next week. That means 3 hours of Zoom classes in the morning and nearly 4 hours of call center duty in the afternoon. And I actually should also study for the formation in the evenings. Aspirin, my new friend.💊

2) I work from home and so does my colleague. Whatever aid I got from them yesterday is no longer available to me, and no matter how much management praises their technology, it does not solve this problem, but makes it even worse. Stupid pandemic.

I am grateful that nobody is writing me off and that I get opportunities to learn, but I fear for my physical health next week. Normally I only deal with my mental health phases and stress, but this week because of the stress I suffered multiple headaches, low blood sugar and today I even had to flee the zoom class session because I suddenly felt very sick.😟

Gah, I really want to crash on a sofa, surrounded by Beanies and snacks and just watch and talk K-dramas until I fall asleep. Is that too much to ask?😒

yesterday was my birthday, and it was wonderful. i usually hate my birthday-- i feel so anxious about the day and was not looking forward to this year because of the pandemic.

but yesterday, i had so many friends surprise me (by dropping off gifts) or sending stuff or calling, teachers sang or wished me in class, old OLD friends sending wishes and love... it made me feel so loved, and was probably the happiest day i have had in over a year. the pandemic has been difficult. online school has been difficult. and the fact that so many people thought of me made me feel... so special. including you beanies!

i would like to thank this community and you guys for always being so kind and supportive. it means the world to me. i hope all of you can have a day as great as mine yesterday-- it is too much happiness for me to bear alone :-) (i think i slightly quoted pride and prejudice here alskdjhfbkdn)

On the other hand...I'm still waiting for Sungrok new drama news 🤧. I did a twitter poll for what role should he play next: a teacher? An actor? A doctor? A lawyer?

What do beans think? What role should he play in his next project? 😆

Happy weekend all! I’m off on a mission of mercy (going to visit my brother who has been sick in bed all week and lives alone) and I’ve left the kids with my husband. I’ll be gone overnight (he lives several hours away) and it feels SO WEIRD. I haven’t been away from the kids overnight much except for being in hospital having the next ones 😄 I haven’t packed so little into the car in years. It’s like having a holiday, even though I know I’m just going there to do dishes and laundry 😂

Dear netizens,
You seem to have remarkable campaign skills that operate change in the real world. I would very much appreciate it if you could turn your eye to my country's issues and maybe lend a helping hand. We have a ridiculous amount of corruption, systemic racism, and social inequality for people to get outraged about. Feel free to campaign on the issue closest to your heart. Saranghae!
PS: I love Korean media, but I guess I'm backing away from the k-media news. Deciding what entertainment I want to watch it's starting to feel like a moral quandary

My friend just told me Seo Yeji is doing a drama with Cha Eun Woo. I love her so much (also because of IOTNBO). I'm not very excited about Cha Eun Woo being paired with her. Let's see how it goes

Yes, Cha Eun Woo is one of the main cast.
But I think Kim Nam-gil is her love interest probably.
