Kim Young-dae faces Park Joo-hyun’s lies in The Forbidden Marriage

If you lost your beloved, could you ever get over that grief? MBC’s upcoming romantic sageuk The Forbidden Marriage tells the tale of the widowed Prince Lee Heon, played by Kim Young-dae (Shooting Stars). Devastated by his wife’s death, he has refused to remarry for the past seven years. As a last-ditch attempt to have the country’s king wedded again, the royal family has enacted a decree that forbids all single women from marrying until the king does — but to no avail.

Enter Ye So-rang, played by Park Joo-hyun (Love All Play). She’s a swindler who earns a living by claiming to read marital fortunes, until she gets caught by inspector Lee Shin-won, played by Kim Woo-seok (Military Prosecutor Doberman). Thinking on her feet, So-rang bluffs that she can see the spirit of the late crown princess in the palace.

So-rang’s ruse does get her out of jail, but it lands her in the palace — right in front of the king, whom she’ll have to fool if she wants to survive. As her lies spiral out of control, she ends up pretending to be possessed by the late crown princess. Will Heon’s grief cloud his judgment, or will he see through So-rang’s bluff?

Rounding out the large cast, we also have Yang Dong-geun, Park Sun-young, Choi Deok-moon, and Kim Min-joo, among others.

Directed by Park Sang-woo (Never Twice) and Jung Hoon, The Forbidden Marriage is based off the web novel of the same name, with the novel’s author Chun Ji-hye penning the script. The drama is slated to premiere this December.

Kinda didn't know Kim Young Dae and Park Joo Hyun was a pair up I would like the sound of, huh.
Plot sounds ... pffffffffft, and uhm, excuse me? Lee Heon? Like... 이혼 Yi Hon / Lee Heon?? (Which would make him GWANGHAE???? for some reason (which uhm no, Korea, you're banned from making dramas about Gwanghae till farther notice, because I said so)). Or is it like, 이헌 or something. What IS the Hangul actually. I need to know for peace of mind, lmao.

@Sic, please elaborate on your wishful edict. Why?

Perhaps it has to do with BOSSAM where King Gwanghaegun was a NOT very good father to Princess Hwain aka Soo-kyeong (Yuri).

I didn't like his writing in BOSSAM either, and that definitely just added more reason to the edict, but no, @dncingemma, it's mainly because of The Crowned Clown (ofc it is, which @marcusnyc20, you should've known! haha).
You know, my most hated drama etc etc, the treatment of the King's character in that was disgusting etc etc, Jin Goo was phenomenal as the King and weirdly out acted himself etc etc.

There's more to it than that and some historical context but yeah. Anyway.

Sorry for being dense @sicarius. I am just coming off a head cold, intestinal issues and jet lag from my recent return from Morocco lol so that’s my defense. I kind of forgot we were dealing with Gwanghae in TCC.
I concur that Jin Goo was phenomenal in TCC as was Jang Gwang whose Eunuch Jo set the standard for eunuchs for me.

Oh no! That's more than enough excuse; I was just teasing anyway haha. I hope you get lots of rest!
(Haha yes I was going to say "yes that IS about Gwanghae" lol)

His name is Yi Heon (yes 이헌) and he is a fictional king. The author took a lot of liberty with royal protocols and laws, like the premise which will definitely not please the common folk. The novel is described more a fantasy romance than historical fiction, so I don't know if it'll please the enthusiasts of the later genre.

Thank you! I can rest easy now knowing this is entirely fictional and not some weird adaption! And yeah I could tell from the synopsis it wasn't going to be accurate in other ways lmao.

That hairstyle suits kYD so much. So why couldn’t the powers that be give poor KJY a decent hairstyle in “Love in Contract”?

@dncingemma, just as an aside as I almost never comment on actors’ looks.
In the pic above both male actors Kim Young-dae (age 26) and Kim Woo-seok (age 25) have their hair cut in a korean bowl style. KYD’s cut looks to have a bit of perm while KWS’s cut make him look about 17-18 (imo of course).
I just started TRACER a where Siwan is sporting a cut similar to KYD. That kind of cut I think does add a bit of maturity however it sometimes can go off the rails lol. I have the image of Yoon Shi-Yoon’s ‘do’ in PSYCHOPATH DIARY.
This article gives closeups of KYD and KWS:

Kim Woo-seok is 28, two years older than Kim Young-Dae.

Thanks for the correction. You are correct. I must have have taken the birth date for singer Kim Woo-seok rather than FB’s KWS.

😂 We have opposite takes on this - I want to see foreheads and eyebrows, dammit! I'll put up with a lot of other styling nonsense for the sake of that. I agree that KJY's hair in Love in Contract could be better but it's not terrible, although the orange eyebrows are.

As bowl haircuts go, KYD's is pretty good and suits him, but he's so brilliant at glowering and a forehead reveal is needed for a proper glower. Since it's a sageuk, I assume we'll at least have topknots or other eyebrow-liberating styles if not full forehead freedom.

This role for PJH will be like a 180 to the part she played in my only PJH drama, the wonderful A PIECE OF YOUR MIND (2020).

This sounds right up my alley. How long has it been since we've had a setup like this? Forced coupling to eventual lovers, but with due baggage seems like fun but also angsty. The perfect combination for a Wattpad-esque/ cheap Webnovel romance! Hurrah! ^^
Can't wait to see KYD in red-robes of a Joseon King. He'd look mighty, mighty FINE~

I'm still not sure about Kim Young-dae, but I like Park Joo-hyun a lot. This could be fun.

Sounds interesting so it's on my long list to watch. I do love saeguks in any form! I've actually learned a lot about Korean history and foods from them. The costumes are always so lavish and beautiful. Can't go wrong with the palaces etc. either. Now, story, be GOOD!

Seems like it's going to be hilarious!

Also I noted it was the opposite decree in 100 Days My Prince - where all single ladies HAD to be married.

Plot sounds like it could be hilariously fun or disastrously messy. I do like our leads though, even if I can’t exactly picture them in a historical setting yet.

I'm kinda like the plot.
Like eventually the king falls in love with the swindler because he thought she is possessed by his late wife, or did he? But then he knows, he got so angry. He wants to kill her but............ he can't. Conflicted........

Sounds like a fun premise, I cannot wait for there to be a background history of how the king and the swindler knew each other as children and were each other's first loves, the swindler was originally nobility before her father was framed and they lost their titles, and it turns out that the king always thought his wife was the swindler, so that we can have a clean romance where neither of them were really in love with anyone but their one true love.

Since it is based on a novel, I do not know if that is true, but I am sure at least something of the sort will happen, even though I hope it won't. I would very much like to know what happens in the novel, though, because the story, even if it does have the "hidden childhood first loves" and such, sounds interesting enough that I almost can't wait till December.
