Premiere Watch: May I Help You

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Fantasy, rom-com
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: It’s often the dramas with the most terrible-sounding premises that turn out to be the most fun (how’s that for drama logic!), and I’m wondering if that will be the case for MBC’s latest fantasy rom-com May I Help You. The Korean title references our hero (Jun) and his super cheap butler service, but it’s when his path crosses with our ghost-seeing heroine (Hyeri) that things get hijinksy. She sees ghosts and has to fulfill their last wishes or is plagued by bad luck… and if you squint really hard you can see exactly why her teaming up with our errand-running butler will be so much fun. Hyeri is at her best when she can just be wacky, and I think she and Jun will be a lot of fun bouncing off each other here.

TL;DR: Hyeri being Hyeri, Jun, ghostly shenanigans, should be good tropey fun

I hope I can find this on a streaming platform. I have a soft spot for Hyeri.

I have been wondering if the reason such somewhat whimsical notions/constructs are the linchpins of some KDramas is perhaps because it is such a transgressive thought not to aspire to wealth and status in SK? Not that it is that much different to other countries in this regard but the pressures of familial obligations in a society still imprinted with the Neo-Confucian hierarchical norms makes such deviations even more aberrant.

Amazon Prime Video in the Philippines. Just like Disney+, even if you are a subscriber, if you are in the United States, it's not available. So many dramas are nowdays not available in the US. Not a wise move for this export, Korea.

I've loved Lee Hye-ri and Lee Jun-young since their idol days, and they make such a cute couple, so I'm excited for their characters' romance.

Not a fan or Hyeri, and the writer & PD haven't done anything I've really liked, but I'll have to give it a try anyway...
... Supporting cast includes our favorite imposter from Alchemy / WTf cousin from Business Proposal :)

That premise sounds truly terrible. Meaning: I will definitely tune in. At least for the first episode. Fantasy is a hit-or-miss genre for me but if it hits right, it's glorious.

I didn’t put two and two together until today when I realized that I had seen Lee Jun-young’s great performance in D.P. which was one of my favorite dramas of 2021 and probably my favorite Jung Hae-in drama.
The reason D.P. may be my favorite JHI drama was for his outstanding physicality. Well it takes two to make a great fight scene and the fight scene in D.P. between JHI and LJY was probably the best fight sequence I have seen in a long time. I don’t believe any stunt doubles were used and obviously they both must have seriously trained.
If you are interested you can watch here:

I don’t know if LJY’s role will call for that kind of physicality but if it does he is ready and I enjoyed Hyeri in MOONSHINE (2021) (Viki US) so I may be giving their new drama a peak.

DP is one of my faves. That scene was something else! I don’t have the expertise to judge fight scenes but as an ordinary viewer, that scene was funny, engaging, kinetic and showed the tenacity of both characters. Thank you for posting it.
