Divorce Attorney Shin keeps its average, new weekender The Real Has Come climbs a bit but doesn’t do anything crazy, Taxi Driver 2 blasts over the 18% mark… and then Joseon Attorney makes a tiny splash with its premiere.

The new weekender THE REAL HAS COME has had a solid start dramatically, but these audience numbers are not that high for a family weekender. Perhaps audience tastes are changing given the comparison with TAXI DRIVER 2 which is a hit.

I would have thought that JOSEON ATTORNEY would have better numbers than this.

Must admit, I didn't feel as sorry as I should've been seeing that dip of OBY Ep16... Serves you right for not knowing where your real strength lies, show! Hope it can get back on track for finale at least.

OASIS seems getting it right unlike its competitor above *sigh* What a mess))) Or retro melos are just slowly coming into trend again? Anyway happy for JDY.

JOSEON ATTORNEY's numbers are expected. Aside of abysmal ratings and terrible reception its of predecessor, 2/3 of leads are idols. Not exactly what conservative viewers of public channel would find a good thing, esp when there is a bunch of hotter shows with bigger stars to watch instead.

Divorce attorney shin, has not got back to its starting numbers of 7.5 since opening week but it’s close enough I guess.

I really like it! I even caught myself thinking back about one of the early cases. That says it struck a chord inside me kind of like the slice of life stories do. Just proves that you CAN feel for a character without the TOD. Plus, I love Cho Seung-woo. He really brings his characters alive.

I love it! The friendships are so heartwarming, new and old. I was crushed to realize it’s only 12 episodes and will end next weekend 😢

Gosh that was quick. Wow they are cutting it fine with the grandmother and nephew’s storylines. At least we avoided the padding of other longer dramas and maybe our hope that there is not a romance between Sunghan and Seojin and they stay as friends will be played out.

Right, I thought wow, they’re really going to move this grandma divorce story along! I also hope there’s not a love thing with Seo Jin, let her just go on and become strong on her own (although I would have liked to see her son and Atty’s nephew become something like brothers).

This is one drama I want it to become a seasonal series. Three friends and their slice of life, plus their circle of friends and colleagues (and enemies), and the cases. Why not?

If a bunch of dramas *aren't* airing on Wednesdays & Thursdays, what is airing those days?

Variety shows, I think.

The networks have abandoned Wednesday-Thursday. It is officially a waste land for drama shows.

I wonder if so much Netflix and other OTT content releases (in binge form) is a factor for the overall decline in numbers.

I thought there are people who like the weekly airings so why would that affect middle of the week shows?

Is/was there a certain theme or something that made dramas Wed/Thurs shows vs beginning/ending of the week shows? Like were those dramas supposed to be easy watching or something and now there's a lack of that particular vibe?

I've noticed I seem to use vibe alot lately haha
Sorry, I don't have another word for what I'm trying to get across

I think you're onto something here. Mid-week is the most stressful time for people who work/study, so after they're done for a day all they want is easy and light entertainment, not to be neavily emotionally and intellectually invested into complex fictional plot. That's why variety shows thrive in this timeslot but dramas don't and haven't been for a while now.

Someone may correct me, but in the past I think weekends were the three networks' showcase shows: family dramas and sageuks. Monday-Tuesday were for lighter shows like rom-coms. Wednesday-Thursday were more edgy or unique shows like EAW.

I think drama production costs have made networks more cost conscious and pared back with cheaper programs midweek (talk shows, variety shows, news programs).

Monday and Tuesday used to be the time slot for epic period/sageuk dramas like “Jumong” 51%, “Queen Seon Deok” 44%, “Giant” 40%, “Jewel in the Palace” 57% etc.
There were weekend sageuks with many episodes that would run for years.
“Taejo Wang Geon” had 200 eps and it took 2 years.

It's so weird to me that that has happened. Extraordinary Attorney had the Wednesday/Thursday spot last summer and went wild, so is it just that people are not interested in the current offerings?

I think EAW checked alot of the boxes because it stood out but also wasn't too heavy. Even when I suggested that show to someone who isn't nearly as invested in kdramas as I am, they said they loved it.

It had the cute/charming romance, it had the signature greeting, it had the unique images of the whale epihanies and the closing title cards. All of it made it such an easy watch. I didn't know it aired in the middle of the week and I don't know how the broadcasters choose to air any given program but it certainly worked for EAW. The stars aligned haha

Well, dang. I wish Joseon Attorney had better ratings. Tough competition? I would have been happy with ~5%.

It seems for most dramas recently that after a few episodes they find their audience and that is about it. The ratings stay in the same range. The exception right now is TAXI DRIVER 2 which started out well with an episode one Nielsen rating of 12.1% and for the most recent episode 12 was 18.3%.

I was disappointed in MBC’s JOSEON ATTORNEY ratings also. I hope it can at least match MBC’s THE FORBIDDEN MARRIAGE’s 4.0% average which was 2 MBC dramas back in this same slot: Fri/Sat (21:50).
Checking MBC’s Wiki page and reviewing the 8 previous MBC dramas in this slot, BIG MOUTH (2022) had the highest average Nielsen rating at 10.1%.
