[OST Corner] Back in Time
by Unit
The year was 2014. I was a year into my K-drama journey, and I wasn’t the biggest fan of sageuk. I struggled to get past the first few episodes of The Moon That Embraces the Sun featuring the child actors (ironic, really, because the childhood portions were the second best thing about the drama), but everything changed when Kim Soo-hyun took over the adult portion of the story. And I’m not even embarrassed to admit that I had to watch the drama all over again because the first time, I was more focused on the beauty in front of me rather than on the plot. *Sighs in blissful remembrance*
Anyway, back to the OST that brought us all here, of all the soundtracks in the The Moon That Embraces the Sun universe, I think “Back in Time” is the one that fully captures the very essence of the drama. Its nostalgic lyrics and Lyn’s powerful vocals encapsulate the king’s longing for his first love who “died,” their memories together, and his deepest desire to go back in time to be with her.
Can I travel back in time and hug you just like before?
Just this once, even if it’s the last time
It’ll be okay
It’s no wonder that whenever I hear this OST, I have flashbacks of Kim Soo-hyun and his (very) many crying scenes throughout the drama. A specific non-crying scene that also comes to mind is the 360° view of the OTP’s (dead fish) first kiss scene. Sigh. They don’t make them like this anymore — which is totally a good thing, by the way. Heh.

I think Lyn became one of the OST Queens with this one. It's an iconic OST.

"Back in Time" is iconic, and the chorus is so emotional, but we all agree that the childhood portions were THE best thing about the drama.

Kim Soo-hyun's crying (here and in My Love from the Star) was both extremely memorable and meme-able 😅.
The song introduced me to Lyn - what a beautiful voice. Also love her recent song One and Only in The King's Affection.
