Drama viewership ratings for the week of September 18-24, 2023

This week, My Lovely Liar finishes with the best it could muster, while The Kidnapping Day sees a steady rise (it was in the 1% range last week). And speaking of rising, so is our makjang 7 Escape, but did you think it wouldn’t? As for the rest of the weekend slots, Behind Your Touch is *this close* to double digits, while Arthdal Chronicles loses some viewers.

Koreans really do love "Makjang". I wonder if there was any makjang drama that failed to garner good ratings.

Any drama that comes under the makjang and serious saeguk genre is def a sure win with the Koreans, esp during the weekends.

I find that I have almost no comment about this chart…except, isn’t that awfully low ratings for a weekender (Live Your Own Life)?

Are people watching that sporting event? Is that even still a thing?

Its really low for a weekender. But to be honest it's not doing something ratings worthy at the moment. Besides Ha Joon, Whee Hye-hyang and UEE, the rest of the cast and the story is just meh. Here's me hoping the villainess's son adds more drama like his mom is perfectly doing. And I wish they take a chunk of the focus from a lot of the secondary characters.
I miss It's Beautiful Now.

The first four episodes of a weekender are introduction- and we did not even get to see episode four on Sunday. We are still introducing characters- it looks like the 2 FL has appeared, briefly, and she is set up for a story with the 2 ML- who actually does appear to be both ambitious and conflicted.

I'm loving the 2ML. The fact that he knows the FL a long time ago...chefs kiss. Not the SLS kind of chefs kiss, but I like the drama it'll bring.
And I also love the FLs eldest brother, the one with two kids. A few scenes was enough for me to be sympathetic towards him.
Some casts have had way more scenes that him in this 3 episodes and they're grating my nerves successfully.
I know about the 4 introductory episodes for weekenders. Truthfully, I dropped IBN after the 3rd episode and binged EP 4-18 in 3 successions before watching them weekly. Perhaps I should just give them some grace.

I do have some quips I should have shared during the past WWW which I missed so I'll save them for this week's WWW.

The FL's older brother wants to do the right thing but is bullied by his wife- the Second Villainess in this drama after the ML's Evil Aunt. He no doubt was the previous beneficiary of his sister's sacrifice- so his situation may be karma because he is definitely paying for it now, being in a situation different but somewhat similar to his sister's. He needs to put his foot down and liberate himself (and his son). As for his daughter: I pity her future patients if she does become a doctor.

i love that the kidnapping day has higher ratings every new episode. Episode 1 & 2 only had 1.8% and 1.4%, but it has doubled for episode 3 & 4!

@DB-Staff Arthdal Chronicles aired both episodes on Saturday, but still, 2.198% is a big drop.

The Kidnapping Day is lovely. I'm glad more national viewers are getting kidnapped into the show.

What happened to Arthdal Chronicles 2? I enjoyed the episodes😳.

So this Escape of The Seven garnered this much ratings. I couldn't watch it. I fast-forwarded skipped through both premiere episodes that I'm not sure if I can continue. Penthouse makes more sense than this show so much so that I'm not glad its surviving the ratings war.

BEHIND YOUR TOUCH deserves the love.

The sudden death of the actor No Yeong-kuk probably shocked the audience for the new weekender LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE. When I saw him in Episode 3 he was not looking at all well. Episode 4 was to have been broadcast on Sunday but has been pushed to next Saturday instead. His character as the new Chairman and the ML's uncle is an important supporting role and definitely not a minor one. I looked for further news on the show and did not find any, so I am simply going to hazard a guess that the episodes in the can will be rationed out at one per week while the show finds and brings in a replacement. But that may raise further problems down the line towards the end as some of the other actors may have made commitments for the time after the show ends. Many people in the audience may now not be willing to commit to watching this show for these practical reasons. Which is a shame as it has started well.

The cancellation of ep 4 had to do with the Asian game going on (23 sep - 8 oct), which also affected other dramas like My lovely boxer last week.
Naver chat room have gotten 96k comment with just 3 ep so people are watching it, and knetz are not happy about the cancellation.

KBS last instagram post about the cancellation says it normally airs both Sat and Sun. :)

Just noticed on some Kdrama IG updates, but I read there that Behind your Touch has an unusually high body count for a romcom-with-fantasy-and-serial killer, is that true?

I really hope that Twinkling Watermelon will be the Mon/Tues show that gets good ratings when it shows up next week. It is like graveyard slot and surely these are the days people need distractions after a hard day in the office I wonder if the hours they work no one is home to watch live.

I do not usually check out weekenders but I did for Ha Joon and UEE. I like the first two episodes which is mostly set-up for the story. I may watch this now and then just to know whats going on.

I like that The Kidnapping Day has increased interest in the show. YKS and YN are killing their roles.

I hope Behind Your Touch reaches double digits next week!

I can't move on Episode 14 of Behind your touch. The writer is messing with my brain cells lol. They deserve the ratings and I hope they reach double digits on their finale this weekend. I hope the writer will surprise me again.

We can hope and pray ... and maybe cast a "good ending" spell to boot!

Otherwise I will have to go down the route of 12 episodes then fan-fic ending.
