Drama viewership ratings for the week of August 21-27, 2023

The news of the week is that My Dearest hit the much-anticipated double digits — but also well worth reporting is Not Other’s 5.5% finale peak (go, ENA!).

As for our premieres, My Lovely Boxer had a lackluster go of it (I still think their early marketing of the drama was to blame for the total lack of buzz), and Destined With You fared towards the middling — though not terrible for the sluggish midweek slot, where it was pitted against SBS’s Thursday drama and ENA’s Longing for You.

I Wonder if the break between episodes is going to negatively impact the momentum of My Dearest (i hope not), its a great drama and deserves its success.

JTBC has been on a hot streak since Reborn rich and the Butt drama seems to be continuing the trend.

I hope Uncanny counter 2's dissapointing performance puts an end to the multi-season format.

I am not surprised in the least to see BYT doing so well. It's been very consistent in its approach to humor (and its subject material), and it is clear that the live-watching-on-TV SK viewing public is eating it up. It may not be for many of us, but then again, it tends to be only in break-out places like My Dearest where so many Beanies and the SK public really agree!

Will the Butt Show, too, make double-digit ratings by the end? We shall see...

With the commencement of Asian games the ratings of BYT can either increase with no other drama competition or decrease with its weakening humour.

I'm truly quite interested to see how this plays out! I admit to feeling a little like Statler and Waldorf from the Muppet Show here on the sidelines, but just how popular will BYT remain, especially given the interruption of this sporting event?

I think BYT is also helped by its cast. Both leads can really hold their own

It looks like Moving is doing well for Disney. But looks like they don't provide detailed numbers. And given its cost, you have to wonder.

You have to take into consideration the US writer's and actor's strikes have limited new US produced content on the platforms.

Very happy to see 'Not Others' ended with a high.

BYT is doing well and I Thought Sunday's episode was good too. It brought some emotional connect to characters and made a lot of difference. And the humor continues to be wacky and fun. Whether it can sustain it is a qn. Also, asian games, wonder how it will affect all airing dramas? will there be breaks in airing?

Only one episode per week of the killing vote is really killing! It is a kind of experiment or something? How does Prime agree to that how how how? Drama like moving they dropped seven together to get us involved and 2 episodes weekly on the same day Wow. They didn't even bother to drop their pending episode meh! No matter how good your drama is.. this way it will lose its audience, The logical reason for that since we lose track of the character and the story. On the side note Nobody drives a car like that if it has bomb in it lol!!!

Having a one a week episode is not that unusual. You often see one a week programmed like that. I am also liking it. Park hae-Jin does dark characters best; he’s giving me vibes from Bad Guys and Cheese in the Trap. It’s crazy that he’s almost 40 though, it makes me feel old as he was one of the first actors I liked.
You’re totally right about the bomb in the car, even if it wasn’t attached to the car they could have driven a lot more carefully.

Public channels should give their first newborn to Namgoong min. It seems like the only time their shows have a semi-decent rating is when NGM is staring in them.

THE REAL HAS COME gave us two episodes of utter drivel and yet the ratings actually climbed a bit. They are still not even average for a weekender, but I am puzzled by the climb.

My lovely Liar has made Mondays fun again for me- but the ratings are disappointing. Another puzzle.

BEHIND YOUR TOUCH has just enough wackiness that people are drawn to it even as we have had some fairly gruesome events as well.

DESTINED WITH YOU deserves more love than this.

I am very sad for Destined With You, which could become one of my all-time favorite dramas if it plays its cards right.

Well, it was the same for a certain vampire drama who-shall-not-be-named. Perhaps it was that the SK public seemed to have sensed something?

Some others have said that such ratings betoken the end of the rom-com kdrama...I'm not one of these naysayers, but I've definitely heard it said around these parts!!!

I mean, that's fair: I wouldn't trust any fantasy romance either anymore if I were them! I'm choosing to be cautiously optimistic, but I am aware that it could end very badly too.

I don't think that's true about rom coms, since King the Land did super well. The end of the fantasy romance genre, perhaps (although I highly doubt that, the genre seems embedded into Korean culture from what I can see).

I read the comments on Naver talk, the comments are very positive…it’s the lack of publicity that hurt the drama and not a very big name main leads. The genre is also very niche…to be honest based on the trailers, I am very surprised how dark the actual one is… many are disappointed with ratings, but I hope it raises with work of mouth…

Now I am curious of the vampire drama?..which one is it?

If My Dearest can wrap up part1 well and do well in its promotion before part2 starts, its possible for them to keep the same audience and keep up the momentum.
I will rewatch the episodes before part2.

I am curious how BYT will end in ratings. I still enjoy the episodes and the humor and still give me the laugh I need, I am not surprised with the ratings. Will it hit double digits? That is very interesting to see.
