Drama viewership ratings for the week of August 14-20, 2023

We say goodbye to Miraculous Brothers and Heartbeat this week, both with very slight farewell ratings jumps, while ENA continues to do quite well with its two weekday slots.

In the weekend slots, both My Dearest and Behind Your Touch are on the rise, the latter popping up to 7%. While Behind Your Touch has room to grow through the rest of its run, the gig is almost up for My Dearest’s two-part broadcast, and I can’t help but wonder how MBC is feeling about their plan.

I am happy about the good figures of MY DEAREST. It's great that ratings were able to increase again on Saturday, although the competition here is even bigger.

This kind of quality show needs the ratings it deserves so we can get more of it in the future.

You see, MBC, when you return to what you do best, you get good results.

Happy for ‘Not Others’! Hope it can end on a high note this week.
And yes! ‘my dearest’ deserves that and more.
I didn’t expect ‘Behind Your touch’ to do this well. I am quite enjoying it.

Not sure how I feel about BYT doing better than MLL, but I can't judge when I haven't seen BYT (yet? haven't made my mind up if I'm in the mood to give it a shot right now!). MLL still up from last week though I think - from memory it was around the 2% mark, so I'm a happy camper still.

With all due seriousness, do NOT come over to BYT unless you are ready to get tossed around. The show—and this is the best phrase I have for it right now—cannot be trusted.

@lapislazulii - I enjoyed the first ep a lot!! I liked its style of weird humor. But I was out by ep 3 - the darkness/weirdness combo leaned too dark and just isn't for me. If you're curious, try the first episode!

I was on the fence from the get go. The humor just isn't for me. I prefer subtle jokes, and the whole show feels like a slapstick comedy. Still I continued until ep 3. 10 minutes into ep 4 and I just couldn't continue anymore. But if that kind of humor is your thing, you probably like it.

Was that last episode of HeartBeat its highest ratings?? I think it might have been. Hope those extra viewers really enjoyed it. We didn’t so much.

As for the Butt Show, I very much see why the Sunday airing did better. The odd numbered episodes are so far “better” than the even ones, IMO, and folks probably told other folks to tune in.

Nah, its highest ratings came in its first episode 4.1%. So 1.1% of viewers were smart enough to drop Heartbeat before that cop-out of an ending.

It's so funny (not), Heartbeat ratings hit their lowest around the time most of us thought the show peaked, only to climb slowly back up as Beanies thought it went downhill and bumped up for THAT FINALE. I just don't...

The HEARTBEAT rating that grabbed my attention last week was its in-house DramaBeans rating. (You know, the one at the top of the recaps.) If memory serves, until the last two episodes HEARTBEAT’s ratings was around a 9. It currently is 4.6. I personally can’t recall an in-house rating of a drama dropping like that. I am sure it has happened in the past.

My Dearest has doubled its audience since its first episode, Namgoong Min never misses.

tvN has been struggling to get a hit since Crash course in romance.

ENA seems to get a hit with offbeat and quirky comedy-dramas, happy for the buzz around Not Others

My theories around kdramas, in general, and the SK audience are like throwing darts blindfolded (and I don't even play darts). But some of Durian's audience may have indeed migrated to My Dearest. And they'll stay cos it's so darn good.

My lovely liar needs to keep climbing we want to aim for 10 by the final episode. I have every confidence that we can get at least 7, please.

I'm enjoying MLL and hope its ratings keep rising. But that seems awfully optimistic for a Mon-Tues drama, no, except for the unicorns.

It might also depend on My Lovely Boxer. (Is My Lovely a very common phrase in SK? MLL and MLB. It's gonna get confusing.)

If it helps, the Korean title for MLL is "Useless Lies." No lovely about it...and it would appear that the Korean title for MLB is "Pure Boxer."

So, we should register our complaints to the English Translation Bureau at K-Drama Central. I wonder if that evil guy from Moving runs it?? Wouldn't be at all surprised.

PS: The Korean title for the Butt Show is just "Hip," as displayed in butt-shaped Hangul syllables and in English letters right there on the poster. Interesting, huh?

And we get the translated title of Touch My Butt?

How do you mean, @mmmmm? If you meant, "What does 'hip' mean in the context of BYT," my answer is, "I have no idea!" I've thought about it for a while, because I clearly have nothing else to do with my life, but I always end up in the same place--nothing in this show is to be taken seriously, so I tell myself to stop thinking too much.

It does give new meaning to the main theme OST song whose title is "Hip Hop," tho. :)

Oh no! @attiton! I think I made a mistake! I thought the show’s title is Touch Your Butt in English. Apparently, I mixed Touch Your Heart with Behind Your Butt! And I wondered how come they translated “hip” in Korean to my imagined title “Touch Your Butt”. 😅

😂😂😂

The Korean title for Behind Your Touch is actuall 힙하게, which means "in a hip way" lol.

So, not to seem like I have only one mode of discourse, but don't blame me, blame @attiton. I was thinking of "hip" in its U.S. slang sense, as in "cool" so that you'd be a hipster, or, as they said in the 1950s, a beatnik, pronounced in some parts of the U.S. as butt-nik; and in the late 1960s a self consciously hip t.v. show in the U.S. was called Laugh-in, a play on the California "Love-in" that was associated with hippies, and this show popularized the phrase "you bet your sweet bippy" with bippy meaning one's rear end.

The point is, everything is connected at the hip, and to wonder at the ratings success of this show, as I do, is to bark at the moon.

Interestingly enough, I’ve written an essay on BYT that, if I post it, will have to go on the Fan Wall because it’s too long and not very funny, comparing it to The Gong Show. We’ve got a theme going, @hacja.

I don’t have that kind of confidence, Mother Bean! I was gonna say that I didn’t care about ratings at all, but if it gets good ratings, there will be more shows like this one in the future and I want that!

☺️

It is nice to see a good show being appreciated.

The sporting event that occupies the break is the Asian Games (postponed from 2022) and MBC is one of the broadcasters, so I understand why they wouldn't or couldn't try to compete with that - but I do wonder what went into the decision to start My Dearest's run before the games.

I am almost surprised that THE REAL HAS COME is doing as well as it is. Please note that these are not high numbers for a Weekender.

I thought that BEHIND YOUR TOUCH would see numbers grow and I was right. I am surprised that MY LOVELY LIAR is not doing better- it is a nice show.

My love for "Not Others" has definitely cooled because of my personal dislike of its main protagonist, but I'm still happy for all involved that its ratings have grown. It's a well done show with strong female leads so I'm glad it found its audience.

"My Dearest" is brilliant, imo, so I'd like to see it with strong double digit numbers, but it's still doing very well and growing.

I've yet to start the butt drama because it frankly sounded terrible to me. But these steady, good ratings give me pause. Anyone really loving it who's not just watching for LMK?

I was very sceptical going in to BYT but have been pleasantly surprised by the show so far.
I haven’t seen the leads in anything else before and I think are doing a fabulous job with their characters. Suho has also been really well cast here.
Yes, it is a bit ridiculous and quirky but it isn’t crass humour.
The show is self aware and makes references to other well known shows and iconic moments for some of its humour which is well done.
Honestly, It’s just nice to watch a concept I haven’t seen before with humour as I know I’m about to get my ❤️ ripped out and stomped all over, probably multiple times re My Dearest. 🩸🩸
This will hopefully be a nice balm to the brutality 🤪.
Overall I find it to be a better show than MLL.

I am so happy for Behind your touch. They deserve their ratings rise. The drama is so funny, with a mix of everything. Cast is very good as well, very unserious drama lol. This is my drama crack right now. Uncanny Counter is sad to say lost it's story and humor for me. MLL is good if I have some time to spare, but no special really.
