Seo In-gook fights for survival twelve times in Death’s Game

The latest teaser for TVING’s Death’s Game continues the drama’s promotional run of doing what it does best: highlighting the star-studded cast and high-stakes premise.

The concept is simple enough: Seo In-gook (Cafe Minamdang) plays Yi-jae. He’s single, jobless, and a recent victim of a crypto scam that drained all his savings. Ready to call it quits on life, he jumps off a building, only to find Death, played by Park So-dam (Record of Youth), on the other side. She’s pissed he would treat his life so lightly, so as punishment, he is cursed to be reborn in 12 bodies, all of them fated for some kind of unfortunate end. The catch is that if he can evade his fated death in one of those bodies, he’ll be allowed to live the rest of his life in that body.

The teaser itself is more of the same as previous versions. Death dangles Yi-jae off a cliff where skeleton monsters wait at the bottom. She drops him, and he regains his bearings in a prison cell as Lee Jae-wook (Alchemy of Souls 2), in a plane as Choi Siwon (Work Later, Drink Now 2), and in an interrogation room as Jang Seung-jo (Strangers Again). The clock has begun. We see a few of the gruesome deaths Yi-jae will have to undergo: dismemberment, falling out of a plane, getting shot, and burning up to a crisp. All the while, we hear a voiceover conversation where he cries out to Death, “What did I do to deserve this?” She responds, “This is for coming to me before I came to get you. But if you escape me in one of these bodies, I’ll let you live.”

While this proposition might be attractive when he’s in the body of the mega-agile Lee Jae-wook or the mega-attractive Go Yoon-jung (Moving), it’s notably less so when he’s in, say, the body of bullied high-schooler Kim Kang-hoon (Reborn Rich). But as he goes through each iteration of himself, Yi-jae finds more conviction in his will to live: “This is an opportunity. I’m not gonna die like this.” This all culminates in the final scene where he drops in on Death and grabs her gun, aims it at her head, and pulls the trigger as the screen goes black. Looks like two can play at this game after all.

Directed and adapted by Ha Byung-hoon (18 Again, Go Back Spouses), Death’s Game will be available for streaming on TVING on December 15.

just as I said it, you changed your name LOL
"attending all the contract marriages" cracked me up. I'm trying to come up with a funny one as well but I can't.

Well I am actually attending all the contract marriages. 😅 The display name word limit doesn't allow me to add that. Maybe I'll go back to that, sigh.

You can change your display name to refer to any drama that you're watching, or how you're feeling or your current mood or vibe. I'll look out for it when you change it. 😀

Another drama that I am eagerly anticipating. Does anyone know yet if this will be available in Viki, Netflix or somewhere else?

The cast is so stacked that its simultaneously exciting and scary, especially because it's only 8 episodes!

TVING’s DEATH GAME has not been in my radar at all but this teaser may have brought me onboard.
In 2022 I pulled the ripcord on SIG’s CAFE MINAMDANG (Netflix) after episode 11. I just could not go on.
SIG, 8 episodes and all these actors appearing in guest roles I think will do it.
US availability. TVING has upcoming dramas licensed to Paramount+ (BLOODY LUCKY DAY and QUEEN WOO) which I do not (or intend to) subscribe to so having DEATH’s GAME at least available on Amazon Prime is helpful.

I gave up on Café Minamdang too. It started off really well, Seo In Guk is HILARIOUS, fanning himself and his nose-in-the-air vibe. LOVE HIM. then... falls flat, I couldn't care less who killed who and why,

Speaking of pulling the ripcord - apparently Sung Hoon's character is a skydiving enthusiast, and SH spent some time actually skydiving during filming. It looks like there will be lots of action. I'm ready!

Yea, been dying for SIG to come back after Cafe Minamdang flopped-I blame it all on the awful co-star. I love the idea of all the incredible actors, but I am a bit sad that means we get less SIG, especially with 8 episodes.

Much too dark for me.

However, my favoritist actor Yoo In Soo is in there somewhere - and unlike all of the other previously announced star cast, his appearance was kept secret until just a few weeks ago. If the kdrama gods are with me, he will be the 12 life that "escapes" Death. Regardless, I will watch whatever episode he appears in. 😎

It's been years since the last time I watched Seo In-guk in that messy melodrama of his with Jung So-min, so I'm cautiously excited about this new project. It looks like a tightly packed thriller full of amazing actors (hopefully with good character development to boost). And it's short too. Can't wait for this to air.
