Lee Bo-young looks for her missing husband in Hide

The first teaser for Coupang Play’s mystery-thriller Hide dropped, showcasing a tense Lee Bo-young (Agency) on the lookout for her missing husband Lee Moo-saeng (Maestra – Strings of Truth). Based off the Welsh series Keeping Faith, this Korean adaptation follows the unraveling of its heroine’s perfect life as she uncovers secrets that turn her world upside down.

The teaser opens with a picture of a loving family, but the eerie music suggests that something is lurking behind the scenes. As Na Moon-young (Lee Bo-young) hugs her husband, he tells her that he will be by her side no matter what, but then the music cuts out. Moon-young looks around her empty home and notices that her husband is gone. His office is also ransacked — glass littering the floor and papers strewn everywhere — and he stopped showing up to work and picking up her calls.

His disappearance leaves Moon-young stumped since he showed no signs of leaving and lived a clean life — no addictions, accidents, or even illnesses. However, every truth she once knew will be challenged, and the teaser shows her husband grimacing as a car falls into a pit and goes up in flames. It then ends with Moon-young entering a morgue and pulling off the white sheet to identify the body underneath.

While I’m unfamiliar with the source material, it’s always exciting to see more shows with female leads that explore different themes and genres. Especially in a thriller which tends to be male-dominated, I like this trend of talented actresses getting to show off their skills and be the ones solving mysteries.

Directed by PD Kim Dong-hwi (The Tale of Nokdu) and written by Lee Hee-soo, Choi Ah-yul, and Hwang Yoo-jung along with writer Yoo Bo-ra (Reflection of You) in the creator role, Hide premieres March 23 on Coupang Play as well as in the Saturday-Sunday slot over at JTBC following Doctor Slump.

I also think it's great that this is a thriller/mystery with a female lead. Yay!

But as some may know, I'm a bit obsessed with depictions (or lack thereof) of marriage in kdramas. I always follow the same predictable pattern: I read that the leads are married, get excited, and then as I read/watch further discover a) it's a contract marriage or b) it's all an illusion/hallucination or c) they are married, but for some reason, they haven't fallen in love or had sex for years or d) we quickly find out the husband is slime. Looks like this one will fall into that last category.

I've been kdrama burnt already this year in this regard. If this takes the same turn as the one I dropped this year, I'll sadly consider dropping this too.

I wish Kdramas could do on screen marriages justice. And yes, it seems like it's either A, B, C, or D these days. They're all meh, but none annoys me more than C.

Every time I encounter it I have a hard time suspending my disbelief. It's that ridiculous. I'm aware that the upcoming Queen of Tears drama has trope, but I'm hoping it's executed in such a way that I'll be able to stomach it. I've looked forward to that drama for ages and I'd hate to be let down like that.

^^ Yay! to the first sentence. Has dramaland forgotten how to make marriages work? Can't we have an awesome FL with a strong marriage.

@laurensophie and @jerrykuvira As I have written, I am always on the search for good husbands that haven't time traveled to help the heroine avenge her first bad husband. And there's always a chance that the kdrama will change the original material. So keep the faith, so to speak. But I recommend you watch this for Lee Bo Young, and don't get your hopes up when it comes to the husband.

In my experience, there is actually a wealth of good husbands in k-dramas...this treasure is, however, almost solely found in the older generations.

First- and Second-Generation Chaebols excluded. Those guys are assholes.

In my kdrama watching, they are always a loving Dad with the loving Mom of the main (usually female) character. Do you know of any good husbands who are actually husbands of the female lead?

The ML was very nice in Unexpected You. The drama part of the show was thanks to the MIL lol

Lee Moo-saeng just looks like that kind of husband. 😀 Good actor!
This sounds like the husband from the C-drama "Be Your Own Light."
It's smart of JTBC to hold on to Lee Bo-young after the success of AGENCY.

Yay to the 40+ women for rocking the ratings.

A shame that they cast such a fine actor for a kidnappee role where we'll get to see shots of him tied up in a chair, gagged, looking tired and haggard. Boy they really chose one of the most charismatic actors for this job...

I miss Lee Bo-young in the comedic roles. She was outstanding in I Can Hear Your Voice, and I wonder if she's not given lead comedic roles due to her age. I always thought, playing comedic roles was where she truly shined.

I was just thinking this. I remember when Kim So-yeon won the Daesang for the last seasons of Penthouse. I remember her getting a lot of buzz when the drama aired, but I wasn't familiar with her. When I looked up her screen credits after she won, to my surprise, I realized I had seen her in IRIS and I was really impressed with her potrayal of a spy in that drama. I didn't even realize at the time that a few months later I had watched her again as the lead of Prosecuter Princess. It was a complete transformation. Two totally different roles to the point it didn't even dawn on me that it was the same actress. Jeon Do-yeon came back to dramaland with the somber Lost and then followed it up a couple of years later with Crash Course In Romance. I would love to see Lee Bo Young switch it up a bit. A rom com or a slice of life drama with a decent dose of humor to balance all the serious dramas shes done would be nice at this point.

Lee Bo Young is finally back after her successful JTBC drama, Agency. Agency recorded a whopping 16%. Definitely, a sign not to take 40-something actress lightly. She has been my favorite actress since Queen of The Game and Whisper. Her happy marriage to Ji Sung did not stop her from being a rating-topper and a wonderful actress. Definitely one of the most versatile actresses that Korea has to offer.

FL led dramas are awesome. All the actresses are acting powerhouses. My one and only wish is that the dramas shouldn't saddle them with loser, lying, cheating husbands. It's not too much to ask is it dramagods? *pouts in discontent*

Lee Bo-young makes interesting drama choices and this looks like another one.

Her partner in this one, Lee Moo-saeng, I don't see too often but he's always been good in the few things I've seen him in.

Will give this a try.

He stole the show in Designated Survivor! I watched that drama for Lee Joon Hyuk but Lee Moon-saeng ended up being the highlight.

Lee Moo Saeng had a very minor role in What's Up, which had a lot of charismatic actors, and he still managed to steal the few scenes he was in. I have been a fan ever since.
