Class begins for The Midnight Romance in Hagwon

We’ve had late-night photography, and now tvN is gearing up for some heart-fluttering flirtation after sundown. In the upcoming drama The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, an acclaimed tutor finds herself brought together with her former student once again, through a reunion ten years in the making.

Said star tutor is Seo Hye-jin, played by Jung Ryeo-won (May It Please the Court). Hailed as a miracle-maker, language instructor Hye-jin has no less than 14 years of experience under her belt. “Teaching intelligent kids is a lot more rewarding than you’d expect,” she says, and her career path has been smooth until the arrival of one particular student.

Played by Wie Ha-joon (Gyeongseong Creature), Lee Jun-ho is the aforementioned miracle that Hye-jin created. In his younger days, Hye-jin had exerted all her effort to push him up from the bottom of the barrel and onto the path to a good university. Now, a decade later, Jun-ho has returned to express his gratitude to her — and win her heart.

As someone who doesn’t like the unpredictable — whether it be in exams or relationships — Hye-jin finds herself discomfited by the whirlwind that is Jun-ho. With him constantly on her mind, it isn’t long before her heart starts leaning in his direction. “Is it even possible not to like Jun-ho?” Hye-jin wonders. “If there is a way, please tell me.”

Meanwhile, Jun-ho’s absolutely certain of his own feelings. “There’s no way she hasn’t noticed,” he declares, “that Seo Hye-jin is Lee Jun-ho’s first love.” As the chyron says, from the very beginning, it has always been Hye-jin. Tagging along by her side, Jun-ho’s all set to win her over with his mischievous antics and playful teasing — but he’s equally capable of earnest sincerity, too. “I need you, my teacher,” Jun-ho confesses, cupping Hye-jin’s cheek and gazing soulfully at the lady he’s always loved.

Helmed by PD Ahn Pan-seok (One Spring Night) with scripts penned by Park Kyung-hwa, The Midnight Romance in Hagwon will commence its first lesson on May 11.

Now let's thread this carefully Dearest Writer. Junho had better not be in highschool as at the time this happened. He better be taking GED exams instead cause...

I like Jung Ryeowon and Wie Hajoon. But not that premise please.

Why Her? did it and I didn't like it. So please...let him not still be a high school student at the time.

I don't see any signs of her thinking of him inappropriately when he was a student from previews. There's nothing wrong with him having a crush on her back then, as long as she didn't see him as more than just a student she helped. I do agree, I'm hoping they fully steer clear of any hints of it as a mutual thing when he was younger, but so far, it seems promising as only a mutual feeling between both as full adults.

There is no better PD to tell this kind of stories with very unperfect characters.

I wasn't not expecting this drama to be aired on TVN. For this beginning of 2024, they got all the dramas I'm interested in.

Tvn has been stealing dramas from other channels. I'm not surprised at CJ ENT and their deep pockets. They do fund most of the film productions, too.
I agree; this is the kind of drama we'd expect from JTBC, and PD Ahn has been the co-CEO of the drama house under JTBC's umbrella. I wonder if he retired already.

Saying “I’m so excited for this!” would kinda be underselling 😂 SO looking forward to watch something new by this PD. This trailer looks super promising already! JRW looks like she’s having fun, and together with WHJ they look like… 🔥

Another streaming angst for me/others in my shoes. Fellow Beanies, will you please swoon a tad more quietly about how you will all get to watch this while I brood?
