Chansung was launched as part of the South Korean boy group 2PM after joining Mnet’s Hot Blood Men. They debuted in 2008 with the single 10 Out of 10. The song Again and Again became their first number one single on multiple music charts upon its release in mid-2009. Later that year, they released their debut studio album titled 01:59PM. The group later won Artist of the Year and Best Male Group at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards.


Prior to his debut with 2PM, Chansung had already appeared in the MBC sitcom Unstoppable High Kick in 2006 and in the award-winning KBS2 teen series Jungle Fish in 2008. In 2013, he became part of the MBC drama Level 7 Civil Servant. In 2018, he landed a supporting role in the tvN romantic comedy What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, which won him an Excellence Award at the 11th Korea Drama Awards. In 2021, he starred as one of the main characters in the romantic comedy series So I Married an Anti-fan, which aired on Naver TV.


Chansung enlisted for his mandatory military service on June 11, 2019. He was discharged on January 5, 2021. Later in December, he announced his marriage to his pregnant non-celebrity girlfriend. In July 2022, the couple welcomed their first child.
