Perfect Marriage Revenge, final episodes 11-12.

What an amazing ride we’ve all been on!! Some folks have been dragged along kicking and screaming on the Fan Wall (I’m looking at you @isagc 😉), some folks have been posting lots and lots, and some have been commenting up a storm…what a community! It’s been a blast.

To begin, see below a full sound-and-light clip of THE moment our man, Do-guk, falls in love with his soul-mate, Yi-joo, through the medium of her paintings. He has come across one of them, as you do, in some random foreigner’s apartment while sipping, um, something that a Ferengi, perhaps, made you to drink?

Do-guk offers us here a cogent descriptive analysis of the piece, so well paraphrased by @hacja on the recap page as follows:

“Its [sic] like spring, but its frozen.” And it was titled Frozen Spring! What insight!

But in motion, there’s so much more to notice. See how, at the end of the clip, for example, Do-guk’s chest puffs out as his admiration of the painting mounts even higher now that his delicately formed and intricately expressed interpretation of the work’s seemingly ever so contradictory content has been quite quickly and deeply understood by his interlocutor, a man who had been, perhaps, skeptical of what Do-guk could do with this work at the beginning of their conversation.

And, if art-historical analysis of this caliber doesn’t interest you, maybe the fact that you can hear Sung Hoon speaking English will be a draw! 😘

PS: I think the man at the top of this post needs no introduction, but just in case you are a Beanie from the future…that, my friend, is Hot Sexretary Kim.

Let us begin where we, um, really began…**clears throat**…that is, with our dear Sextretary Kim. What a man he proved to be! In this first gif, we see him chasing after–nay, sprinting after–his long-lost father, the artist Sun Jin, who had been so cruelly imprisoned by Cruella di Stepmother and forced to paint real-fake paintings in his own style. That’s right. They were fakes, but they were real, AT THE SAME TIME. I know just how they feel here as an avatar on Dramabeans.

But, fellow PMRers, it turns out that this whole time, there had been jealous trouble brewing over Our Man Kim between our OTP. LOOK at how it flares up as Yi-joo simply asks, “I wonder how His Hotness is,” and Do-guk is roused to outrageous jealousy, soon after forced by the green-eyed monster to accidentally break a piece of glassware and reveal everything about his lying-lie-lies. Do-guk, it’s OK. We all have, as @kafiyah-bello keeeeeps telling me, capacious hearts with room for many, MANY loves.

Oscars, I tell you, OSCARS all around for Lee Min-young who played Lee Jung-hye–otherwise known as Evil Cinderella’s Stepmom (because the original wasn’t evil enough!!!) in this drama.

Please do let me, though, take a break from the truly OTT sarcasm I’m feeling right now to say–this was a good shot! Jung-hye is desperate and alone, and she says to the cop, “Let me call my husband!” But she realizes the he won’t help her anymore…so she says, “Let me call woori Yoo-ra!!” thinking her daughter will surely help–but we know better. And then the camera pans to the other mother-daughter pair in the room, Yi-joo and Jamie, as if to emphasize that tenuousness and complexity of that particular type of parent-child relationship, all around.

This is one of the most suggestive PPL long-shots of a massage chair I’ve ever seen. Y’all?? He utters a low groan at one point near the end.

Speaking of beauty, just LOOK at this framing and lighting offered to our favorite MIL, Cha Yeon-hwa, played by the incomparable Lee Mi-sook. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again–she’s goalz.

Her outfit includes something I’d like for Christmas–should anyone be reading this who would care to check it off my list–a diamond necklace wrapped twice around her wrist so that it becomes like a double-looped tennis bracelet. Just saying. I’d wear it.

    3
    2

I’d wear it too but probably not when my son is in a coma and in hospital 😜

      3
      1

This is clearly her uniform for sadness and mourning! What? Pink angora and only one kind of jewelry–platinum and diamonds…maybe you had to be there?

        2
        1

Yeah nah. It’s all those aesthetically pleasing jewellery/sweater combo that’s making me question the whole mother-son relationship. Great outfit. Wrong time.

          2

The Mom wears pink, she puts her son in the pink — its one of the first things you learn in med school!

Honestly, I’d wear any of her outfits in real life. She has excellent taste. And that sweater was FABULOUS.

우리 SHAMAN!!!! **Seon-ha does a little happy dance** God, I ended up really loving this character. So poised, so all-knowing, so not-taking-any-shit-whatsoever.

Do-guk, however, seems bothered by the bells.😏

Let’s just not forget this happened. Did you guys TRACK how violent all of a damn sudden the filming of the initial crash scene was?? Dude spits a pile of blood out of his face!!!

    3
    1

Lol that was C-drama level blood spitting 😂

      6
      2

And I sort of picked one of the tamer scenes to make my bodily fluids point!! He has numerous, very painful-looking scenes in this sequence!!!

        1
        1

Yeah – it was “extensive internal injuries” painful looking 😬 Later on – in ep 12 – the violence of the half-hearted attempt at kidnapping and murder (honestly hyung was VERY sloppy) was so over the top and kind of cheesy, and also in the first 20 minutes, that it didn’t stress me out, LOL 😄

          2
          2

WOW. I love, love, love it that the sloppier the attempt at kidnapping and violence the easier it is for you to watch!! 😆 You’re all, “Maaaan! Get👏It👏TOGETHER👏👏!!! I should be cringing and looking away from the screen right now, but Nah.”

@attiton what can I say… I appreciate competence and strategic planning 😂 Honestly, though, I loved how much of a stress-free watch this was for me! It felt very clear all the way through that the writers had a plan and knew how they were going to accomplish it. A few weeks ago, out of curiosity, I read the 1st and latest (I think it was the hundredth) episodes of the webtoon… the drama got through all the source material by episode 11, so I was wondering how they would wrap things up, and I thought they did great!

+1 as anyone who has ever watched even C-drama shorts on YT can testify.

OKOK, continuing the thread of “bodily fluids that should be inside but that are on the outside (especially on faces), is this delightfully adorable kiss…which I just couldn’t focus on because Yi-joo’s face was totally soaked, I mean, DRENCHED in tears. She’d have been like slippery to kiss, y’all! Ugh. But I’m sure folks looked past it (who weren’t me).

The saltiness of her tears 🥲

Taking salt prior to, ahem, exercise, helps prevent cramps.

You know there was snot in that kiss too. His gag reflex is bananas, first vomit, now snot. Swoon Hoon is KING.

      1
      1

Right? I mean people have been telling me how good a kisser he appears to be, but what I see is a sort of intestinal fortitude that extends beyond most men…

To conclude both this post–which turned into the largest GIF Geyser I’ve EVER made!!!–and this triumvirate of gifs about bodily fluids, I think we can all very much agree that this character–Do-guk and Yi-joo’s adorable daughter–is the one-and-only place in this drama where all the snot or vomit or tears–that is, all of the externalized, face-based bodily fluids we have seen in this drama, truly belong.

What a sweetie. I hope her life is truly blessed.

Her parents are really funny and cute, and when they show her this video about them going up to the room for sexytimes, they can say–you were already in mommy’s tummy!!!

He seemed to struggle with those extra few pounds, though. Fortunately for him she wasn’t twins, or he could have lost his grip and she could have cracked her noggin!

Well, Sung Hoon IS 40-years-old now…and you know what that sort of advanced age can do to a man’s body!

Thank you for mentioning me 😂
I’m glad to have been part of this team. I couldn’t have finished this drama watching it on my own.

It’s skeptics like you from which we draw our power mwaahahaha. No seriously, I could tell that you really couldn’t help yourself and it was nice to have you here!

So sweet of you!! I’m so sorry, I never wanted to rain or your parade, but somehow I needed to express myself because I was going a bit crazy 🙈
Now please, my dear beanies, don’t leave me start the next makjang. I’ll cover my ears in order to not hear the mermaids singing 😄

You did better than me, my Beanie friend. Despite me following Sung Hoon since Oh My Venus. Despite me being open to makjangs.

However, I have also dropped every SH drama, every makjang I’ve tried and this proved no exception. I don’t think either is for me. I will not listen to the siren song again. Let us make a vow.

Tho I did enjoy Seon-ha’s and everyone else’s fan wall efforts. Such joy to see Beanies having fun.

          3
          2

            So you dropped it 😂
Then you did better than me!
Well, at least I can say I have finished it, so I was able to understand all the GIFs in the Fan Wall.

Well, we all get another chance in the “Sausage Drama” (sorry folks, but that’s what Death’s Game seems to be to me) to see if Sung Hoon can shine around all those other good looking men!

Love love love!!! It’s all so good!!! Re: that painting scene – along with the neon mood lighting and neo-expressionistic painting, did you notice the little porcelain figurines of milk maids and youths and stuff on the occasional table BELOW the painting? Because I did, and I LOL’D a LOT 😂

    3
    2

I did NOT. I mean is that how English-speakers all live? Surrounded by porcelain figures, mood lighting, internally-inconsistent oil paintings, and strange-colored drinks? ***Looks around*** Um, actually…maybe we do???

      2
      1

Here’s my next question, tho…did you really not think I had A GIF OF PUNCHABLE FACE STORED UP FOR WHEN YOU GOT HERE???

Look at the lovely life he almost had 🙄😂🤣😆😁👀💓

      6
      2

AH HAHAHA!!! Oh my gosh… it’s like the essence of tragedy, and utterly hilarious, all at the same time… what a poetic way to set his character up for his grand fall!! 👏👏👏 Truly, the writers and PD on this one kept their sense of humor firmly in place throughout.

Not gonna lie — I felt a tiny bit sorry for him when Yoo-ra showed up, but then again that would-be fiancée seemed like a nice young lady who didn’t deserve to have Punchable’s mom and sis as in-laws.

          7
          3

Right, Peach?? Ehhhh?? I mean, I truly know what you mean about feeling sorry for him…I think you’re only one step away from Team Rehabilitation for Punchable Face!!! 😅

            4
            0

I felt kind of sorry for him, too, but WOW that nice lady (how did he find her so fast???) really dodged a bullet with his family 😅

            4
            0

Why are you discounting the possibility that he and Yoo-ra would learn to love each other, united by their adoration for their little bundle of joy?

            2
            0

When he showed up with a new one, I just knew Yoo Ra was going to mess up his life. I started laughing and screaming from there. The whole sequence was Karmic justice and more dramas need this sort of thing. Forgiveness, forget about it, avenge and revenge with Petty.

That random foreigner has a decent acting skill. He was relax and engaging. I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps my bar is really low for foreign extras. The script was atrocious though.

    7
    1

Sad, but I actually thought the same thing. Dude had like two lines, and the second one (not the first), I thought, “Hey! That’s how you’d really say that!!”

      2
      1

Yup. I wish directors allow foreign extras to improvise and add on their flair and understanding to the scenes and scripts that they participated in. Sometimes, the English dialogues are so forced and contrived. At least get someone with a good English on the set to get their input on the scenes.

What strikes me seeing this again is after penetrating to the essence of the piece, Do Guk himself looks surprised that he grasped it immediately. “Really?” he says.

Did he fall in love with the painting because it spoke to him directly, the way no art had before or since? Or was it because he had just lucked out with a onetime guess, and knew it would never happen again? Its questions like this that add mysterious depth to his character!

    7
    1

It really felt as if he was questioning his own taste. 🤣

      4
      1

Just how could he have been so right??? “What WAS in this drink that the foreigner gave me,” he may have thought, “I’m going to need more of it!”

    What insight indeed, LMAO.
