Stars of My Fair Lady deny dating rumors
Ha, these days it’s pretty common to get any and every onscreen couple issuing statements denying they’re dating in real life, even when I swear it’s mostly the product of wishful fan thinking or ’shipping. Because, Yoon Eun-hye and Yoon Sang-hyun? Dating rumors? That seems so odd to me.
Both leads in KBS’s My Fair Lady have issued “strong denials” of any rumors that they are dating. Yoon Sang-hyun’s rep stated on the 22nd, “I swear to Heaven, it’s not true. They’d have to have gone out to eat or drink together at least once for dating rumors to arise, but they haven’t even done that. They’re having a tough time just filming the drama every day, so it’s very disagreeable that these ridiculous rumors would come out.” Yoon Eun-hye’s rep issued a similar denial.
(Sometimes I can understand why these rumors will erupt, but I’ll admit a part of me wonders if this is just a media play to garner interest in the series, whose ratings are dropping little by little with each episode.)

Okay, so, have we decided that YEH/YSH have
a) No chemistry. YSH is an old ajusshi!!

c) Just the right chemistry, but the story sucks. Poor Jung Il Woo oppa!!
They did go out to eat but Yoon Sang Hyun and Yoon Eun Hye weren’t alone. Jung Il Woo was there with them.
I think there is this kind of rumour because according to the dcmfl posters who went to the shooting location, Yoon Sang Hyun and Yoon Eun Hye are very close and are always together even during breaks.
I can believe the ratings idea cause the two of them together is just plain odd! Plus wasn’t it YSH who said that he likes short stout girls? YEH doesn’t really fit that bill to me. Plus regardless, its just creepy somehow. They are fine in the show but in reality, I just don’t see them making that thing work.

If someone told me that Yoon Eun Hye dated her past co-stars like Gong Yoo or JJH way back then, I would maybe believe it. BUT YEH and YSH dating? That’s just odd…Don’t get me wrong, I like YSH, but the idea of them together is weird.

why is it that all those hollywood actors like Depp and Pitt are still counted as ‘hottttt’ and they are in their late 40s but when it comes to Asian actors, 30 something is already counted as old, ancient and does not have rights to have fans??

My fantasy as a fan: Jung Il-woo and Yoon Eun-hye end up together.
As an initial Tae-yoon fan, I was really anticipating him having a fair shot with Hae-na, but now I have to admit that Dong-chan is the better man – I mean, character.
Why? Because maybe that will compensate for the former’s lack of screen time and bland character.
@ Mr. Bean’s Niece, I think it’s not the actor’s age itself that’s the problem. It’s the age difference. Yoon Sang-hyun on his own may be charming, but paired with Yoon Eun-hye, he not only LOOKS old but IS old. In a drama, that can work, and I certainly didn’t mind it too much, but in real life, people find it more unrealistic.

Not to be a diss to you or YSH, but there are many more distinguished K-actors out there. They may not always be in front of the audience, have high profiles, or have grand rating/box-office works, but they are so good as actors, people can not refute it once they see their protrayals. And age, to me, is not a determination of skill or charisma. I do believe, experience is the key. The thinking is that the older a person is, the more experience s/he has, but that assumption is often proven wrong in the ent. industry.
From the looks of it, it seems like another ratings gimick. All I can say is, should we even be surprised at news like this anymore? lols…

If that’s the case, then we’ve got Cha Seung-won, Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Yoon Sang-hyun, Bae Yong-jun, Kim Myung-min, and Uhm Ki-joon who qualify as over-the-hill ajusshis. These are off the top of my head, I’m sure I forgot someone!
I’ve got no problem AT ALL with any of these old guys…so just give them to me!

I don’t think that’s true at all. Compare it to J-drama where the average age of your typical lead is between 20-27 for actors and 16-24 for actresses. Yoon Eun Hye would be considered OLD for the summer j-drama season.
Korean dramas are dominated by actors who’ve finished their service. Most actors don’t reach their K-drama prime until they’re hovering into their 30s, and it’s rare for MBC/KBS sageuks to be led by 20-something men.
Besides the point if this is a rating gimmick or not. The age issue should not matter. Look at Choi Chul Ho, costar in Queen of Housewives, who is 39 years old. His wife is 12 years and 10 months old and they work. So, how could YSH and YEH not work. I think YEH has been in the entertainment industry for a long time and she is experienced and more maturer than her age. She had to be independent and make her own decisions in her young life. So, I don’t think it would be weird for YEH to like a man who is older than her. I think it would make sense because women tend to be a little maturer than the men that are in the same age group.
This has to be a gimmick, as a way to drum up interest in the drama. How totally bizarre. It makes sense that YEH and YSH would getting close to each other — they are in just about every other scene together. But romance…??? I think this is a gimmick to make YEH and YSH/HN and DC romance more…plausible. Kind of like butchering TY hair’s to make him less attractive.

@ 6 and 9, Sigh — I really don’t want to have this conversation about age again, but really, the reality is that the demographic MFL is targeting is the teen-twenish group, and YSH is a miscasting for the targeted demographic. However much we want to believe in a world made of rainbows and unicorns, the reality is that we age, and we have age-appropriate categories. MFL is more an adolescent fairy-tale romance — it is clean, cute, and innocent –, and casting an older gentleman as the lead was a numbskull move. Casting a 37-year old with a 22-year old rival was an even worse numbskully decision.
So when fans say that YSH is too old, well, think of when you were 15 and how you viewed 37-year olds.
Even if we want to say that age is just a number, the reality is that it is not. It’s just not. I don’t care how many hippie adages are thrown out.
Context, context, context: in QOH, YSH was a hottie. In MFL, he is not. That’s all.
It’s all about perception… in QOH, I thought YSH looked really young since compared to most of the leading males & females – he was younger (except for OJH). But in MFL- since his costars are all in the early to mid-twenties, at 37, he does look much older to me. I don’t know what kind of chemistry they have offscreen but onscreen, I’m not feeling it at all.
Sounds like ratings gimmick to me, but sometimes rumors do turn out to be true, so who knows.

) I like the chemistry between YEH/YSH for what it is, but if we were talking about ratings and target audience of this story, it was a misfire. Remember, they were looking at Kang Dong Wan for the butler part. KDW is not even 30.
Again, I like YEH/YSH and I like MFL. And I think the ratings are okay. Just analyzing the marketing side of it.

I think YSH is still hot. I think it is just the hair color that makes him drown out a little and the role that he plays in MFL. DC’s character is subtle and not as loud as TB in QOH. Overall, YSH is ravishingly hot, especially when he wore his black suit to visit his mother’s gravesite. The clothes look so much better when it is on him. Another thing, YSH was hot in QOH because he had the darker black hair, which made him look younger.

Well one thing is sure. YEH and YSH has nothing to do with this rumour, cause apparently Yoon Eun Hye has had enough, she’s going to sue the writer who started the rumours.
Objectively, the ratings dwindled from 17% to 14 % but it has been steady at 14%…so it’s not really accurate to say it’s dwindling from episode to episode….I am just basing this comments on hard data… thanks.
My only wish for all the actors of MFL…that they lead happy and productive professional and personal lives…
although I have to admit, I am looking forward to a YEH-JIW tandem in the future…

i think YSH actually looks younger than he did a few years back. I had recently found out he was in exhibition of fireworks (i know it was a lackluster drama for most). My reaction was: if he’s not Kang Ji Hwan and he’s not the pathetic and old-looking 2nd lead, who was he?! Then I find out he was that old-looking and pathetic 2nd lead. He could have easily played Yoon Eun Hye’s father back then. He looked horrible with cropped hair!
I thought YEH likes older men. That’s what I’ve heard, with MC Yoo, KJK. Well, I dont mind her dating Mr Yoon. I think he’s adorable and funny

Well, firstly, I guess it’s because those romantic K-dramas attrack mainly girls in their teens while lots of movies with Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt aim at an older audience as well. (Don’t be cross with me, I love K-dramas, even though I am 35.)
And of course, for an 18-year-old girl a 37 year old man must feel pretty old.
Secondly, who are the people that complain about the age of those 30-something actors? Aren’t they mainly netizens? Well, most people who watch such shows online and go into a discussion forum are probably not older than 25.
Thirdly, many fans might not think that the actor is too old, but that the actor is too old [u]for[/u] the girl who is often more than 10 years younger as in “Who are you?” or “Cinderella Man”.
I actually find it kind of strange that so many dramas have such young actresses. The girls always have to be naive, cheerfull and unexperienced. What are role for a woman!

@5 & @6 – I echo your views…what’s not so good if two people are dating & i still believe that age doesnt matter…since its inception of MFL if my memory doesn’t fail me, a lot of people here have been criticizing YSH about how old he is compared to the other leading actors YEH & JIW…may I ask if this is the first time you’ve seen a drama that the guy who just turned what 37 yesterday is too old for YEH? maybe so and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but like what #5 said…they look good together & I agree 101%… I guess as long as they’re in love, compatible and getting along well let’s give them our blessings if this is true that they’re dating! Please give YSH a break about his age and if things materialize I’ll be happy for them! Let’s not be judgmental! I do hope they’re an item and this is not only a rumour cause I love both of them! For me i must say this is good news…they look really good together and happy. My goodness I’m so afraid to reach 35 yrs old cause YSH is only what 37 yrs old and everybody’s fussing about this age already? Look at Park shin young, he married his wife of 13 yrs his junior (i’m not sure exactly but i know she’s much younger). Another actor from Queen of Housewives, Choi something he was as a matter of fact teasing YSH in one of the interviews that Yoon sang might marry someone much younger than Choi’s wife cause he’s married to his wife who is I think also about 16 yrs? his junior i’m not sure now but it was here at dramabeans where i saw that article! Let’s just be happy for them if this is true! Oh yeah another actress Choi ji woo who is 6 or 7 yrs older than her current boyfriend! I’ll just be happy if these two are really dating. ooppps, i forgot….i love that photo you got for them here…she’s one of the prettiest Korean actresses I admire since CP, Goong etc. YSH is charismatic, handsome and funny and i have a hunch he’s gonna be a good husband & I agree @#40. In one of the MFL episodes where they went to the countryside, i remember that scene where he was fixing her bed or comforter and thought wow this guy would be a very good husband. In one of the Happy Together shows with Lee cheung sul as one of the guests, he indicated he still lives with his parents and he seems like a good son. YEH shld be a lucky girl instead of marrying someone who is her age I’d go for YSH! All the best to them!

Zeta Jones as you said… park shin young & the actor from Queen of H.- — sometimes older men are better than the ones within your age group! i also know some people who’s been married and the girl is much younger than our friend & they’re still together, very happy & all that (they happen to be from Korea incidentally). I dunno why there’s so much negative and discrimination here about these two beautiful people who I happen to like! This is my first time here and I just have to say something! Yoon sang hyun seems to be a very happy go lucky guy and maybe that’s one of the attributes that Eun is finding in him, not only that, he’s quite handsome and seems to be a very good person off camera! I’d say go for it —- and i hope some of their fans (i’m one of their fans & you sure have my support) would support them also if this is not only a rumor. I think some people in the industry are very private like Choi ji woo, to name a few who’s been dating for what 2 yrs but we’ve just learned about it recently? YSH & YEH are beautiful together…let them be people! An ajusshi is any man who are in their late 20s and older. Yes, you’re considered an ajusshi if your 27 or so. Married or single they’re still ajusshi. It’s a way of saying mister.

OMG Javabean this is the first though I had when I read the title. Reminds me the lame Minho-Hye sun or Kimbum-So Eun issues medias used to sell these couple.
I thing age is not the problem but chemistry and believable soryline. In the VM OMS and YEH had chemistry because of the storyline and the actors/characters had chemistry. Plus OMS is 31 and YEH 23 while VM days.
I personally think it is a marketing ploy. Look how much buzz has generated here and at soompi because of this. I was never aware of a connection between the two off screen untill the strong denials were issued. Which makes me wonder, who was talking about it in the first place. There has been talk about how TY is a better match for HN than DC. But since the reports, we can clearly see how DC has such strong chemistry with HN. Thankyou for the clarification.
i personally think 11 years of age gap is too much but that is just my idea and if YEH likes someone older it is not my place to say it is appropriate or not.

Yeah right this is marketing gimmickry- but a bad one.
I have nothing against age difference which for me is not the issue, BUT the appeal of the person vis a vis the “partner”. The chemistry you see is the hard put/blended chemistry concocted by the writer & director not a natural chemistry that comes out on screen when the “partners” are truly matched. Just try to recall all the dramas, movies, sitcoms you all had watched and imagine how you follow the series because you “had that feeling” for the couple in the scene. Sometimes you see it in the look they gave each other; or when opposites attracts; or even when they tried to ignore each other. no words need be spoken and you already feel it. this is what chemistry is all about. Not forced togetherness- or the obligatory accidental hug or kiss- or leg breaking- carry back intimacy, yuk yuk yuk. . too predictable. . .
Really when the chemistry between HY and DC is touched. . I can’t help but rant as this is truly non-existent. Sorry to DC fans I admit though he is good in QH (though actually in that drama – there’s more chemistry between him and his wife) I was rooting for them to reconcile – unfortunately, they are only the second lead so it was kept hanging. That was his groupie- not this genre.
mmm… MFL is not as good as CP (I blame this on the scriptwriter!!!) but I still find it good enough to watch and wait for the next ep(that’s tomorrow!!!)…
YSH may not be as hot as Gong Yoo(nosebleed!!), but he has his charms.. and I am liking him more and more… i mean, I still love JIW but I have to face it, he isnt the main lead right now.

Wow…it is way too much pressure to be popular actor and actress or Idols in Korea…….That’s why actors like Jang Dong Gun, Bae Young Joon, Lee Byung Heon, Joo Jin Mo… are still single. And as an older fan…I do wish them all to be happy in personal life and to have a love one and family to come home to…..Age diffence??? where do you draw the line, 10-15 yrs older at 20 is different than when you are 25 or 30…I, myself married a 12 yr older man and we have been happy married for 34yrs. Good actors and actress, single or married still should be able to make good romance drama or movie. If YEH finds her love with an older man…be happy for her……….we stay faithful to our Kdramas.

yes choi chul ho matter of fact in one of the articles i read said that he’s married to his wife of 13 yrs his junior & even teased YSH at that time (this was even before I guess he was cast for MFL) that Yoon sang might marry someone who’s much (even) younger than his wife! I agree with all the comments supporting these two people but too bad for the others who think that these two got no chemistry at all!

I can’t believe that the ratings are slipping each episodes cause it’s a good drama, better than CP no offense to CP fans drama, i’ve seen that one & wasn’t too impressed with the story unlike this MFL drama! I was watching Happy Together (this was when YSH was a guest prior to MFL) and he said he still lives with his parents, he got a sister who advised him about his acting but after seeing QoH his sister became a big Taebong fan herself! I think he’s a good man for her! I hope & pray this isn’t a rumor!
@65, according to YEH and YSH the rumor about them is not true and they both denied it even trying to take legal action against the reporter who fabricated the lies, so I will take their word for it. They just have gotten really close as colleagues. The two felt offended because those lies written by the reporters, had a bad effect on them, cause some antis have been accusing YEH and YSH that they used it as a ratings strategy, when they had nothing to do with the reports, so YEH will be taking legal measures.
I just really hope that this doesn’t affect their closeness, friendship and wont make them awkward during intimate scenes.
The only thing that bothers me though are the netizens who think it’s such a mortal sin if they were indeed a couple, as if they actually have a say in the actors private choices espescially when it comes to matters of the heart. In my opinion, we have no right to impose who we want for them, it’s their life and their choice.
I really feel sorry for YEH. First, original script changed, the pd told her not over do over spoil bitches during the MFL conf., and people blame her for fall in rating, and now the scandal which I don’t think is true. I hope she will sue the reporter. I am not Korean but I love their dramas actors and actresses. They do need life too, especiall love…age really not important if you really love someone. I have 2 brothers married young women over 12 yrs of age. I understand YEH said she likes older men because they have more experienced in life. Young men are only for fun dating, seriously if married I choosed mature men, which i did for 25yrs and still happy!!!

@67 I myself know a number of friends who married girls about 9 or 10 years their junior and believe me they’re just so happy with their lives compared to the ones who married someone close to or same age range or whatever. To top it all, LOVE has no boundaries and age is one of them!

i agree with you #73 & other numbers here in support of the Yoons….when lee byung was dating song hye ko was the fuss as intense as this one? Rightfully so again, let’s hope ppl here who disagree with these two actors don’t encounter similar problem falling in love with someone older than themselves & only then they’d realize how it feels! I think YSH is being singled out here not only cause of his age diff with YEH but since this MFL drama inception, a lot of ppl have been criticizing YSH being teamed up with her cause she’s too young for him etc. I know of a scientist friend I’ll ask him to develop a special formula for YSH so he can freeze his age to 36 & wait till YEH (who i adore so much among the female K. actresses) is about his age! Maybe I can understand the reporters observation, lets recall some of those scenes, conversations that we saw too like during the variety show, the first hotel conference and photo shoot, we can see Miss Yoon touching the lead actor quite often maybe that give wrong signal to the working people around them, too much joking around during filming will also create some slander too. He also admitted that during his military days he had a crush on her and he did say that he hate to see girls putting up their leg on the dash board (car) and she replied I did that because I have back problem. Professionalism is the best attitude to stay the safe path.

Interesting excerpts you shared with us incldg the youtube vids! I can see how YSH wld be easy to get along with & perhaps the two of them are really having fun, what’s wrong with that? At least they are not at each others back and not getting along well on the set or off the set! Looks to me that they must be finding that they have a matched likes & dislikes so that’s one of the keys in having a good relationship isn’t it? That photo of YSH kinda touching her on her shoulders must not be malicious, but friendly. I’m Asian myself & amongst our friends, relatives we’re so touching but no malice in there, it’s just a part of being warm with each other! To top if all, I wish it’s true that they’re dating! Glad you clarified that YSH was not indicating he’s got a crush on her but he was a fan of Eun’s while in the military…big or huge difference of course, so people may just have taken those words out of context & it’s easy to have things like that blown out of proportion. With his remarks that Eun is very pretty or prettier than their co-star Moon….it’s very true anyway, not that Moon isn’t pretty but Eun is just prettier!
Well, just like with every Kdrama couple that we see, somehow at the back of our minds, we have this tiny wish that they date in real life.

I think that generally young women and more mature men make a good match. Biologically speaking, women are most attracted to successful men, which a relatively older man is likely to be, and men are most attracted to beautiful women, which younger women are more likely to be, comparatively. Thinking back to my old school days, didn’t it seem like the girls were always fawning over the HS boys (in Middle School) and then the unattainable but so prestigious college boys (in HS), while the boys most often had crushes on girls a few grades below their own?
Having said all that, I don’t believe these two are dating. I just… don’t. XD Their chemistry doesn’t strike me as that genuine.
Speaking of personal experience, however, I was really in love with a man 10 years older than me when I was 20 and lived in Korea (where I still live now, at almost 22). Unfortunately, he kept saying the age difference was too great for him even though I personally didn’t care. So while 3-5 years of age difference seem to be the norm, much more than that does seem to strike a chord with people — especially Koreans, in whose culture age is given far greater significance and influence than in Western countries.
