Kim Nam-gil rumored to add one last film before enlistment

Having come into overwhelming mainstream popularity just as his mandatory military service approaches, Kim Nam-gil is trying to squeeze in as much work as he can before he has to take his acting hiatus. In addition to an upcoming drama series (SBS’s Bad Guy), rumors are currently swirling that Kim will also take on a mystery film project this year, to be directed by a top director.

While speculation about casting is common, in this case the film’s supporting actors and cast are corroborating that Kim’s casting is a fait accompli. It’s Kim’s side that is playing coy in denying the rumors; his management rep said, “He has a lot of inquiries coming in, but as of now nothing has been decided. He is focusing on his drama.”

Kim is busy working on Bad Guy, which is shooting in Jeju Island. Furthermore, as he has already once delayed his enlistment, it’s likely he will be enlisting as soon as Bad Guy wraps. While technically he could film both at the same time (as Lee Yo-won did in the latter days of Queen Seon-deok), that’s a demanding, if not impossible, proposition — particularly since drama shooting schedules are so grueling to begin with.

Despite his packed schedule, fans are clamoring for one last project, eager to see as much of Kim as they can before he leaves the spotlight for two years. It’s always tough to leave at the height of one’s fame, but it also makes one’s return that much more anticipated, particularly if Bad Guy turns out to be a strong project. (I am cautiously optimistic.)

Whether he decides to do this movie or not, at least we still have 'Bad Guy' to look forward to no matter what. :-D

Not looking forward to his 2 year absence though. :-/

LOL the EYES!!
I always thought he would be successful, even from the bodyguard (Lovers) days...

I don't care which name he is using now or how many times he changes his name.

He will always be San (from "Firebird") to me.

It's been a pleasure to watch his growth and development as an actor.

It's a bit like Gong Yoo, enlisting pretty much after Coffee Prince.

I wonder if you have to serve if you're a Korean citizen, but a resident of a another country. Do they make you come back?

My heart just plummeted at the news!
Two whole years, without HIM is a long time already. Maybe I'll survive by replaying my favo scenes from QSD and highly likely Bad Guy, too.
Cannot, simply cannot wait for Bad Guy.

Love how glowy he looks in this pic, and the Bidam hair - niceness!

@mimi,

"I wonder if you have to serve if you’re a Korean citizen, but a resident of a another country. Do they make you come back?"

Yup! otherwise, it would be too easy to escape MS (military service) by moving somewhere else. ^^ Here's one loophole I didn't know about, leaving the country before you become eligible for MS (is it 18yo?), but that would not apply to many entertainers (well, maybe some of those idol bands hehe):

Ahh... it kind of drives me nuts how suddenly people have just started liking him. I first saw him in Lovers and loved him. He was such a cutie and I wished he had a bigger part.

^ If you're a Korean citizen living abroad and you're within that age range (20-ish and male), you're better off just not traveling to Korea! They WILL detain you at customs, true story.

oops, I meant "Lover's", not "Firebird/Phoenix", in which he was 'San'.

Whether or not the rumors are true, we can't escape the horrible truth that he will be gone for two years. WHY?!

I've been curious about the effects this mandatory MS can have on a star's popularity. I know there are returns we've looked forward to (like Gong Yoo and Chun Jung Myung, recently), but are there cases where a star's been forgotten while on duty? Two years is a long time; it could happen.

The worst thing about this is: no more Bidam hair!!!

this haircut is perfect for me(not exactly the Bidamish one )
When I saw his short hair in his 2006 movies I was shocked and I felt awkward: he was a sexy mother ****** but awkward
In Lovers his name was Tae San

and I don't like his hair from the latest press cons

Bad Guy looks super awesome and Kim Nam Gil is so fine! but its first four episodes overlap with Cinderella's Sister (because Bad Guy follows Prosecutor Princess)...
What a shame. I feel like it's harder to pick up viewers after four episodes but who knows? it might be the next Queen of Housewives (which had overlapping episodes with Boys Over Flowers but then eventually went up to 34%)
Too bad that as soon as he gains popularity, he has to go to the army... but hopefully his dramas and movies will do so well that even when he comes back, like Gong Yoo, he'll have a lot of projects waiting back for him

"he has to go to the army…"

That's okay. The Army of Bidam Lovers will await his return. Sigh.

You know, if Korea ever made their version of Ashes of Time, KNG is the guy to do it.
