Bridal Mask casts Han Chae-ah

Upcoming historical blockbuster Bridal Mask (Gaksital) starring Joo Won and Park Ki-woong has cast another leading lady. Actress Han Chae-ah (Believe in Love, Neighbor Enemies, Style) will be playing Chae Hong-ju, a strange combination triple-threat: singer, gambler, and spy. What, were dancer, basket-weaver, and grifter taken? Well I’m glad that one of our female leads has a definite action-hero side to her, if she’s the kickass kind of spy. Let’s hope so.
Bridal Mask is a manhwa adaptation about a freedom fighter, Lee Gang-to, who starts out as an informant during the Japanese occupation of Korea. But when the Japanese army murders his entire family, he dons a bridal mask to hide his identity as he sets out to avenge their deaths. Oh interesting. Not that the family murder is surprising — usually you need a tragedy to incite a vigilante hero. But it also sounds like a straight-up revenge tale, which is right up PD Yoon Sung-shik’s alley (Story of a Man).
It isn’t clear yet whether Jin Sae-yeon gets billing over Han Chae-ah or not, but the character description for Hong-ju makes me think that she might be in second lead territory. Or who knows, maybe he’ll just be a hero with many loves. He’s already got the dual-identity thing going, which comes in handy when you’re juggling two girls. Hong-ju is described as an appealing, mutlifaceted, colorful character who remains singularly devoted to the hero. She puts all her effort into winning Lee Gang-to’s heart, which makes me sad for her already, because doesn’t it just sound like she’ll be nursing a broken heart?
Han Chae-ah is currently shooting another superhero drama, due out before this one — OCN’s Hero which premieres in March. She’ll follow it up with Bridal Mask, coming in May to KBS.

I think if this is the 30's she'll probably be one of those spies who seduces the important guys and gets info out of them--singer & gambler would fit into that perfectly. If she's seducing Japanese men they'll definitely want her to sing, haha. I tend to like those types of spies too though, they're interesting.
I'm really excited for this to come out, it seems intense.

Looks interesting.
Let's hope this promising female character doesn't turn into a damsel in distress in the middle of the show. I've seen a couple where the female lead is a strong-witted, driven character, who seems can take care of herself, but during the middle of the show she does a complete 180 and shows too much of a fragile side.

I wonder if Joo Won has something with KBS, seems like all his shows/dramas are from KBS! But it's just a curiosity, ha. Will try watching this cos it sounds potentially promising *hopes*

Well at least he has young pretty leads. Nothing against noona romance but really happy because I prefer closer to age casting. She is only 4 years older. The other girl is not even 20.

Speaking of spy.. I love Tang Wei in Ang Lee's film Lust, Caution.
More action less kiss .. This is Joo Won's fan chanting.. Hehe.
Joo Won only 2 drama but in those 2 he portray a different kind of character.. And now he's playing kick ass hero.. A must watch for me!

Actually, I don't think Han Chae Ah's role will be a physically badass woman. I mean, like someone above said, "spy" here most likely means, she'll work in some night club, entertain and seduce men (ala 30's), to gain information from them. I'm sure she'll be tough mentally, multifaceted and all, but not a martial artist/gun-wielder one.
On the contrary, here what I found 'bout Jin Se Yeon's character:
"19-year-old Jin Se Yun will play Mokdan, the talented sword woman in a circus. Mokdan is cute, brave and straightforward girl and as usual she’s the love of the hero, Joo Won."

See? Looks like she'll be the brave girl who kick ass physically instead, albeit maybe with more straightforward and cuter,maybe even slightly naive & justice-driven personality, a trademark often found on heroines in Japanese/Korean comics/anime.
I personally look forward to her fighting style, martial art with dance blending technique.

It sounds like a meaty role, hope her acting chops can handle it... in the projects I've seen of Jin Se Yeon shes mediocre at best, but fingers crossed shes improved. Its Joo Won's drama so I'm definatley on board, but if the acting was good across the board then it would be better.

You say mask, Japanese occupation and kick-ass female singer and I think "Once Upon a Time (in Korea)"
It would be cool if they could set that kind of vibe in this.
We have seen JW do dark, and very nicely, too, but he was never cool. You know what I mean? He was a vulnerable self-conscious, unsure bad buy who was easy to love despite his anger issues.
