Potential drama coupling: Jung Il-woo and UEE

Good news, bad news: Jung Il-woo is in talks to take on his next TV role, but it’s in a weekend family drama. My response is both “Fifty episodes, groan” and “But on the upside, I get to see him for six months…”

The drama is MBC’s Gold Rainbow, which recently offered its leading lady role to UEE, who is still considering. The show is about seven orphans who grow up together and form their own family, with UEE playing eldest sister to the brood.

Speaking of whom, the drama actually went full Dickens and named the poor orphan girl Baek Won, which sorta cracks me up and sorta makes me groan, seeing as how baek won means a hundred won, which is about the value of a dime. (It was also briefly a nickname for IU’s character in You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin, since the admiral Lee Soon-shin is the man on the coin, and Jo Jung-seok would teasingly call her “Hundred Won” — at least until the public put on its petty outrage hat and complained that the show was disrespecting a legendary war hero. Insert eye-roll.)

The role being offered to Jung Il-woo is of a prosecutor named Do Young, although now I kind of want the show to stick with the People As Monetary Values shtick and name him something like Chun Man, or maybe Chun Eok if they’re feeling really ambitious. (Chun man won = ten grand, chun eok won = 10 mil.) ‘Cause where there’s a Candy-esque orphan heroine, a rich dapper hero can’t be far away, no?

I do like the match-up, since Jung Il-woo and UEE seem like they’d make a cute romantic pairing — it would be enough to get me to try the show out, despite not finding the writer’s May Queen credits all that compelling. And while they haven’t worked together before, maybe my brain thinks the combo sounds familiar because Jung Il-woo’s last drama role, Prince Yang-myung in The Moon That Embraces the Sun, was a character initially to be played by Joo-won, who was still juggling his role in the weekend family drama Ojakkyo Brothers, where he romanced UEE. (They were adorable and sweet and definitely a main source of that show’s addictiveness.) I don’t find Jung Il-woo or Joo-won to be the least bit similar in acting style or vibe or image, but they do sort of fit in the same category of young leading men. So it makes sense.

Gold Rainbow will finalize its casting decisions soon and begins script rehearsals early next month, to replace Scandal in November.

I first saw UEE in You Are Beautiful and had a negative reaction to her, perhaps because of the bitchy character she played.

But Ojagkko Brothers redeemed her in my eyes.

So am all for a JIL-UEE pairing.

Well I have watched 50-episode dramas but...yeah, it's too painful. I'm trying to watch You're the Best again...after stopping at ep 10...but I haven't got around to it yet.

BUT JUNG IL WOO BACK IN ACTION. YESSSSSSsss

I might consider watching this but it all depends on what route they will take. Cause if it ends up being heavy drama or anything like Lee Soon Shin I will drop this business like a bad habit.

Jung Il Woo is a happy pill. Uee, love her.

The thought of 50 episodes trying to wait for tiny tastes of JIW awesomeness, and one or two moments of cute chaste romance makes me want to hurl.

At this point, Jung Il Woo in a family drama is like No Min Woo in a trio slapping drum brushes at a country club soiree. Total waste of heat.

Aeeerreeeee I just had a heart attack. Jung Il-Woo back to dramaland? Yes please! !! Although it's a shame it's going to be a weekend drama. I'll still check it out because of him and hopefully he'll take the role.
Romantic pairing with UEE sounds really cute. He has sizzling chemistry with anyone.. sorta...

hopefully he'll turn it down and get 16 ep drama instead. don't think i can do another 50 ep drama after i finish Scandal. and i watched May Queen too - because it doesn't matter what KIM JAE WON is in...i will watch him in it.

I abso-lutely adore Jung Il woo and I am happy that he 's doing it. And Uee's last family drama was'nt that bad either. So I'd for sure catch it.. And as JB says there 'll be 50 episodes of Jung Ill Woo... :D

As much as I was in love with Soo-hyun oppa in Moon/Sun, I still believed his character didn't deserve the girl. I think Jung Il Woo sshi is a good actor but I don't know about 50 episodes.

I think he is a good actor who deserves a better role on a weekend drama...but apparently they are giving those to idols that can't act...anyways nice to see him in something FINALLY!

I was just saying to myself yet again how much I've MISSED Jung Il Woo!!! He's my favorite flower boy & if it takes a weekend drama to get him back in action, then so be it!! I'll be there for all 50 friggin' episodes ;)

I'll take the positive approach about how awesome it will be if I can see JIW and UEE for 6months. Loved JIW in 49days (Ohh yeah the scheduler baby!) and I absolutely loved Uee's portrayal of that biatchy character in you're beautiful and I adored her as JaEun. I'm really hoping they both confirm.
IMHO Uee is one of the solid idol actresses who I can watch without cringing and actually praise her performances.
Also the storyline sounds interesting.
I'll be keeping an eye on this drama... I'm sold :)
