Happy Friday, Beanies!

I managed to watch the finale of The Good Place earlier today and I honestly don't know what to feel right now. I kept convincing myself that the show wouldn't end if I won't watch the last episode but I couldn't resist the play button. It was a good ending to a good and consistent show and I am pretty satisfied, especially with Tahani and Michael's conclusions. And that gift from Chidi to Eleanor? *chef's kiss*

Everything was fine, at least for this lovely show. I hope the weekend of the Beanies will be fine too!

I thought it was a good finale. Definitely not what I was expecting, but I was happy with the resolution. I thought Jason essentially becoming a monk before he left was great and thought Tahani's next steps fit her character really well.

I was also expecting Jason to be a monk but I think the way they concluded his story and good bye with Janet was actually very Jason. And I believed that Tahani and/or Eleanor would be very great architects so I'm really happy that one of them gets to do the job!

Lastly, Eleanor and Chidi's last scene made me cry.

I still want to catch up with this amazing show, i had to continue from season 3. But most importantly I'm glad that it didn't extend beyond 4 seasons and most people are satisfied with the conclusion. Is till hear very less about it (i only knew through DB) kinda feels underrated.

Hello Beanies, Haven’t been here in a while. Hope everyone has been well. 😊

It’s been an unusually quiet week in hospital with the Wuhan Virus outbreak unfolding. Elective surgeries are being cancelled, patients are not turning up for their clinic appointments. We are bracing ourselves for things to get worse but hopefully not. Fingers and toes crossed.

Watched RDTK Epi 1-3 and managed to squeeze out the Medicaps for 1-2! I must say Eun Jae is Really Annoying Me- episode 3 made me want to smack some sense into her. She was seemingly more obsessed with her dirty face (which was her own fault anyway!) than going to check on the sick patients. Urgh. Plus I fail to see why she wants to go back to Seoul when her drug taking behavior was totally irresponsible and irrational and downright sanctionable. Hopefully Epi 4 is better and she gets less annoying to me.

Otherwise i love Woo Jin and I’m having total mommy-like feelings towards him where I want to hug him and tell him he is doing a good job.

And of course Nurse Oh is oh so damn fabulous and I Love Her and Teacher Kim so so much.

CLOY is also finally continuing its episodes again this week, finally!!! Can’t wait to see the Ducklings and Papa Duck like fish out of water in Seoul and OMO I’m looking forward to the makeover Seri does!!! Woo hoo!!!

Stay healthy and safe everyone! And Happy Lunar New Year!

Unfortunately, Eun Jae is the weakest link in the show, and her character arc really hasn’t gotten much better. I’m still struggling to understand how she was able to get through general surgery to even be a CV fellowship candidate; it’s not just book smarts by that stage—and if it was, I wouldn’t have been a fellow myself! I’m Ff-ing her scenes and concentrating on the cute side romance of (spoiler alert) Nurse Park and Dr. Yoon! So adorable!!!!!!!! Thank, as always, for your Medicaps! I understand and can follow all the procedures, but your details really adds to my understanding and makes me think I’m becoming a more well-rounded doctor! See, learning through Kdramas! Happy New Year to you too!

I hope Seri gives the ducklings makeovers too. Chisoo will probably sna4k on the whole process but insist he looks better than everyone else.

I do hope the all live together for a while since they may not all end up in the same place at the end of the drama.

Happy weekend and a happy February Beanies!

February is here, but it feels like 2020 is starting only now for me. My presence and morale on drama beans took a short dip these past two months, and as everything is getting settled I find myself wondering what to do in February.

My father has been suffering from a lower back hernia since the beginning of December, but there was not any improvement until mid-January. The pain made him a bit distant, so he was not able to share his usual calm and humorous demeanor when mother and I needed it most, nor his physical strength or craftiness to get stuff done around the house. In the last 3 weeks he underwent an MRI scan, got finally diagnosed and referred to a physiotherapist who prescribed cortisone infiltration.

Last week my baby godson was diagnosed with the early stages of pneumonia and as a result my parents and I had to take care of him for 8 days because sick babies are not allowed in a day care. My goddaughter had some school day offs and fell ill over the weekend, so 4 out of the 8 days we had to take care of her as well. Monday afternoon especially was supposed to be doomsday for me, as I would be alone with the two ill god siblings while my parents consulted with the physiotherapist. In the end my parents left home at the last minute and my sister got off work early, so I only had to entertain my goddaughter for a bit while her little brother napped. Both were back to normal by Thursday, and while we were relieved that the children did not have to be hospitalized, we are even more relieved now to be without them for a few days. 😆

But real life has mercy sometimes. My father’s eye doctor confirmed that the cortisone would not influence his glaucoma and that he was allowed to have this treatment. Conveniently, a patient cancelled an infiltration appointment this Thursday, so my father was able to go and receive part of his infiltration treatment yesterday already! There was also a construction worker who had been delayed by uncontrollable circumstances several times, who unexpectedly showed up this week to finish his job around the house once and for all. Despite the busy caregiving days, I had equally productive evenings finishing my to do in January list. The pre-emptions last weekend also helped a lot, since it enabled me to watch all No Second Chances episodes that aired already.

Now I am facing a slump of sorts. February would have been perfectly short to commit to a daily challenge, in my case a movie challenge to deal with the K-drama slump and to decrease the amount of unwatched movies on my to watch list. Except that I did not have the time to ponder a theme or the details yet, and already got a quarter of the month booked with social gatherings that I had forgotten about. Woops. I guess I should be happy with Extraordinary You Nanowrimo November 2019 and go on a challenge hiatus for now... Please look forward to my next Open Thread, in which I will tell you all about...

Taking care of kids is so tough! I fully understand the feeling of being happy when they can go back to childcare/school. I feel the exact same way about my Boy. Hahaha.
Glad to know your dad is better and they figured out what was wrong. Hope he is back to his usual self soon!

I am usually the helpless one who relies on my parents, so I felt not prepared when I had to unexpectedly let them rely on me. My parents were grateful and understanding, but I think that it was too much on my plate all at once.
I will be the first to admit that my caregiving pales in comparison with what superparents do every day, so respect to all beanie parents out there! However, I am grateful that a supermom like you understands my struggles 😀

@turtuallysarcastic never underplay the impact of helping out! Without support, jobs get lost and all sorts of bad things happen. Besides, kids need extended family (doesn't matter if blood related or not) around them: it gives them connection and security, and affection counts a lot more than being a super-experienced babysitter. By being there, you're helping to shape your godchildren's world, that's lovely!

Hallo everyone, i love the weekend because all the dramas I follow get updated. I have been under the weather and sick so it’s nice that the weekend is here!

Crash landing - it’s been a loong 2 weeks! I’m looking forward to all the sheeningans fish out of the water South Korea scenes.

I’m watching this Cdrama called - under the power (or under his power) whatever the English name it - Gosh the male lead is seriously swoon-some. He looks really good in period costume and the OTP is cute! The story is ok, I fast forward a lot of the secondary characters scenes but it’s an easy nice watch. I’m into easy breezy eye candy watches at this time of the year. It’s winter and we need to feel warm Ha!

Someday one day (Tw drama) / this is really good. Besides the male lead who is all kinds of cute, the story is intriguing, well acted and well directed. I’m waiting to see how they end this

Romantic Dr Kim - I get why they get good ratings, each episode passes by and it’s a nice watch. But i often get the déjà vu feeling while watching , like wait - didn’t the same thing happen in season 1. The stories seems almost the same but Dr Kim is enigmatic and draws you in. I don’t know I may lose interest at some point.

I am going to talk the taec drama next, it’s a mystery why he continue to get roles. Lucky guy. I think the reason could be you want to not like him (because seriously you can pick randomly and find a better actor) but somehow you watch the drama and find he’s serviceable and quite ok. And he’s trying, and trying. One day you will reach there taec! lol

And I’m gonna try out forest because the synopsis made me laugh so bad. Like cohabitation in the woods! Ok, you got me.

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, there are just actors who don't act well but keep getting big roles. I'll just skip their dramas totally.

I'm watching Forest just for Park Haejin and Jo Bo Ah. The story is not that great. There are a lot of actors that I'm not familiar with in the drama too. I may drop this.

Required fields are marked *

Another chime in to agree: it has been a LONG two weeks and I can't wait to watch Crash Landing again tomorrow -
and as far as Taec, I wish I was given as many tries to succeed at something... call me an old crank but when I hear, "they are trying!" or "they work so hard" I just get annoyed. Everyone tries. Everyone works hard. They are supposed to be there because they are better than everyone else.
- and I adored Dr. Kim part 1 for just the reasons you mentioned, but I can't watch Part 2 because I am not about to fork over twice and much money to Viki as they already squeeze out of me... really, Viki Premium is jaw-droppingly expensive.

TGIF! I cannot wait to watch more episodes of Crash Landing On You this weekend! Very exited to keep feeding my kdrama addiction. I'm also slowly watching While You Were Sleeping to fill in the gaps of waiting.

I felt like January was so long, months in a single month. Happy that February is coming and hope spring comes even faster. I'm halfway through a 5k training program (that's 8 weeks long). My goal is by the spring/warm weather arrives, I'll be able to run a 5k without huffing and puffing.

I'm also taking a computer science class in Data Structures while working full time, so that is going to cause some extra stress in my life. Also, I just pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch (Animal Crossing New Horizons edition) so I'm excited to get that as well in March when it's released officially.

Overall, I'm content and hope I don't catch a cold. Although lying in bed gives me an excuse to watch hours of kdramas. Hope you all have a good weekend!

We made it to the end of January fellow beanies!

Been watching Running Man - started last year after the deafening cries of how good this show is couldn't be ignored any longer. It is simply fantastic (so far) I am now at episode 200 where (now retired) footballer Park Ji Sung guests for the third time.

Whilst watching RM It is so weird seeing a lot of recently deceased K Pop stars appearing as fresh faced new comers. Any time I have seen Sulli appear on RM so far it has quite sad and she seemed so cool and full of vigor. Seeing the Burning Sun scandal perpetrators appear sporadically is quite something too. If we only knew then what we know know right?

Finished Chocolate (I was looking forward to not crying this week but though the recent passing of Kobe Bryant put that idea to bed) It was a great show and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Ending could have been a bit tighter but all in all - not bad.

Spent the week catching up on the Grammys as my pop culture podcast (and K drama podcast) resumes this weekend. Anybody have any fav performances or winners? Lil' Was X performance was gold and I enjoyed Lizzo too.

Still watching Black Dog and Diary of a Persecutor - really glad I stuck with it. Age of Youth PD and writer hasn't let me down yet.

So. Many. Dramas.

Joy of Life Loved loved this drama. So well written, acted, directed and I loved pretty much every character. Especially the sweet Uncle Wu who needs to be protected for all time. I'm sad this was only the first season and really hope the next 2 seasons will have the same cast. I cannot imagine the drama with someone else was Fan Xian.

Love Storm (Love of Sandstorm) I watched this for Grego and his gregliner. He didn't disappoint. Him and the sisters romance was the best part of this drama. I also liked the little brothers and Mom's stories. Despised the Dad's and didn't care for older brother and his crazy girlfriend. It was entertaining but episode 6 and half of episode 7 were the worst part of the drama (as it focused more on Dad and older Bro). Just do what my mom did and only watch the Grego parts 🤣

Prince of Tennis I really liked this one. It definitely had an anime feel to it which makes sense as it's based off one. But overall it was fun and would like to see a 2nd season with the boys going to nationals. The ML was so adorably short compared to the others. The FL was annoying and pointless.

A Little Thing Called First Love I ended up hate watching this drama. By the end I hated almost every character in it. I think the leads were an actual couple for maybe 5 episodes of the 36. This drama should have been about 10-15 episodes shorter than it was. The ML was hateful at the end. I absolutely despise noble idiots. It's my most hated trope. And the ML actor was garbage. I hate the SFL. She was a stalker who was obsessed over the SML and forced herself at him.

Because of Meeting You Started watching this. Because Deng Lun.

Required fields are marked *

So agree about A Little Thing... I also hate-watched it, fast-forwarding through most of the final episodes because it was too long, full of filler, pointless. The low points? Hero's bizarre one-time panic attack, the plot line that had stalker abandoning her stalkee - who then immediately turned around and began stalking her instead. Facepalm. Oh and don't get me started on that spoiled little sister.

Joy of Life - Zhang Ruo Yun has totally nailed it as Fan Xian. I heard how he prepared well for the role and convinced the show to take him on.

With so many things happening (and not happening) in China's entertainment industry, and with the actors having to move on in getting work to do, it will be hard to get back the same team to play the same characters, but I really hope the PD has put some plans in place, to make Season 2 possible.

Is it still January?!? Okay, one more day, good riddance gloomy month. So, for those beanies who are low tech like me, I wasn’t getting any new episodes on Viki. At first I figured it was the Lunar New Year break, but still no episodes. Went to my account and everything looked ok. Went to Viki troubleshoot and there were no issues reported. Finally, I unplugged my TV and cable, waited a few minutes, plugged everything back in, and voila ~ the new episodes appeared and now I’m binging like crazy to catch up with everything. I’m a duh!

And I started Forest and How Are You Bread? Is there a new weekend drama that you really like? I haven’t watched one since Father is Strange and I’m kinda up for one. It’s a Fleetwood Mac Bare Trees kind of day, I’ll post the picture on my wall. ❤️

Hope everyone is staying safe from the Wuhan corona virus. News seems depressing/scary. Some of what I think is the most depressing in the reply.

7

Required fields are marked *

Tidbits of news from various sources on Jan 30.

- The organization that makes the official tests for it in China sounds confident, saying they can make 2000 tests a day.
- The total number of confirmed cases in China went up by almost 2,000 on the 30th.
- You can't be confirmed (in China) unless/until results of that test say you have it.
- Unofficial reports from the Wuhan area say there are many people (1) who are sick with something, (2) have reason to believe they have been exposed, and (3) are not officially confirmed because they don't have results of that test yet. Many of them have tested negative for flu and the results of others tests besides the official one do not look good.

These tidbits could be interpreted in who-knows how many ways, and may not even be accurate, but if you believe them then one likely way to spin this news is...
... The official count (in China) is limited by their testing capability and has little relation to the actual number of people who have it. And almost everyone who gets the official test turns out to have it. Ugh.

When I started watching it (out of curiosity) I thought that it had a pretty good premise, but then the holes started appearing. The holes got bigger and bigger. I also find that the characters change their moral compass in a wink of an eye--that's something I don't admire in a person. A person's morality can change over time, but not overnight.

1

I have tried to watch The 100 about 5x now, I guess just because it seems to be popular. But every time I get about halfway through the next episode and have all these thoughts like "who the hell would ever actually DO that", and then spend the rest of the episode counting all the worn out cliches and really bad dialogue. And being a science junkie, the show just drives me nuts in that area also.

Dramas for the apocalypse should distract you from the apocalypse. As it turns out I didn't watch it but I still might.

I think of it as a tribute to firemen, who are trying to prevent apocalypse in many different parts of the world.

Will it help my daughters overcome the trauma of what happened to him in City Hunter?

It probably should help. It’s been so long, what did happen to LJH in CH?
LOL. For some reason I remember a scene where LMH is wearing one of LJH’s suits (here we go with the suits) and LJH is pissed about that.

@bong-soo he nobly sacrificed himself at the end... my daughters, used to happy endings, were so shocked that the show would go in that direction that they never forgave City Hunter and took a rather unreasonable dislike of Lee Min Ho...!

Slowly watching cdramas Ever Night 2 and Forward Forever. Both are not bad.

Ever Night 2: Didn't get far with either s1 or the novel. Fairly comfortable watching s2. At 43 eps, still draggy here and there. Stupidity, incompetence and bad at problem-solving create drama. Technical issue - Either the dialogues changed a lot after filming or some of the cast flubbed their lines often. Dubbing makes some scenes kind of awkward.

Forward Forever: This is an overt historical fiction drama. (Based on a BL manhua?) I wondered how it got past the censors until I noticed that ending credits thanking a few Chinese state-run media. I am not too familiar with historical end of Qing Dynasty court intrigues. One male lead is an flamboyant prince with a couple work identities loyal to the powerless emperor. He is not blind to the empire's many faults. The other is a commoner from the boondocks seeking revenge. (It was strongly hinted from the started that his mother was nobility.) Looks like these young people will join the revolution to overthrow Qing. Its "cultural clash" is kind of funny. Prince prefers Japanese and European (aristocrat) fashion and lifestyle. Other character styles are traditional Qing, Han, or East-meets-West. Action scenes are good. Less draggy than Ever Night 2, so far. Getting 50 eps of densely packed plot out of a manhua seems to be a tall order.

I'm thinking I prefer to watch something more action packed and less romantic, so I still am not going back to a couple of dramas I started and stopped, like Fairyland Lovers and Lucky's First Love.

Among the kdramas, there's only Crash Landing on You that I'm watching. It'll be interesting to see how everyone fares in S Korea in these last few episodes.

Ever Night 2. Except for the screeching old hag, the female characters are rational. Finished ep 8 in which the 3 "devotees" (Don't know what they are called in English.) supported one another even though they weren't BFFs and were occasionally antagonistic.

For me, action/fight scenes need to make sense as part of the story. However, a quick beat down or killing of an annoying character is more than okay.

Pity then that there's no occasion to get rid of the screeching hag. 😑

Hello Beanies,

I just watched an episode of Knowing brothers with IU and Lee Joon-gi (ep. 150) on Youtube, and I'm still not over Scarlet Heart. The trauma!

Ugh. There are few heroines I have hated as much as the lead in Scarlet Heart. A toxic combination of terrible writing, lackluster direction, and witless acting.

Itaewon’s first ep aired today and it is oh so good. I was really looking forward to this for first quarter 2020, but it blew my expectations out of the water. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t go downhill and doesn’t disappoint because this has so much potential and so far the entire cast is great! PSJ’s acting as usual getting better day by day. The father and son dynamics ughhhhhh so many feels. The female leads so far and not at all typical which is cause for excitement in itself. Unique story, great background scores, and great acting so far. Just the first episode and it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions.

Maybe it's because the week ended in a bad note, with stress and worries IRL, and I get oversensitive.
DB is my safe place. It's the playground I come to to relax, and laugh and squee with like-minded Beanies. I feel like we support each other and I'm defensive about this place although I'm a newbie.
This week, trolls showed up at a news' article comment thread. Some other comments on the same thread, though not comparable, were simply malicious about the actors involved. Then someone goes and steals a Beanie's posts and puts them up somewhere else, violating her privacy, authorship and trust.
What's happening here, Beanies? We are the ones who make this place fun and safe and gentle.
The world is a harsh place these days, Beanies, keep safe and keep on spreading the love!

Glad you're enjoying DB @flyingcolours. We need more folks like you to keep this place warm and inviting. Generally we've ignored the trolls. Keep safe and healthy too! 😊

Does anyone watch Taiwan drama #Someday or One day# ?
It's is really good in all aspects and getting great reviews everywhere. The best series i've watched in a long time.

I find most Taiwan dramas hard to watch - they all seem way too "fluffy" and full of Pabulum. I might take a look at that one, Taiwan does occasionally come out with a good one. China in the meantime seems reduced to making nothing but over the top martial arts junk since the heavy censorship kicked in 3-4 years ago.

To be totally superficial, I find the lead actor's huge Adam's apple really distracting. Can I put him in a turtleneck?

In recent BTS of CLOY, you can immediately tell how tired the cast and crew has been during their January live shoots. It appears they had no time to memorize their lines prior to filming scenes. That would add extra stress and mental fatigue on the actors. They appear to be filming late in the evenings, as SYJ's salon crew celebrated her birthday in the back of their transport van. The exhaustion episode indicated that the filming has moved to Paju, which foretells the story moving back to North Korea.

And filming in wintertime Mongolia does not make things any easier for them.

Tell Me What You Saw looks interesting. First episode out today on Viki (I think).
Will start Forest today if the subs are done - have to see what that cohabit thing is...
Towards Zero is picking up, one of the better shows airing I think.
The Money Game - heavy on the financial stuff, not for everyone, but I am liking it.
How Are You Bread - watched first episodes, seems to be something that I have seen before about 9x with rival chefs at war. Will try a couple more episodes I guess.
Crash Landing - finally back, but I still don't see a happy ending for this couple unless the writer does something really unexpected.
Black Dog - have not watched any, the description seems pretty bleh/meh - any opinions?

@windsun33,
Nice to see another THE GAME: TOWARDS ZERO fan. I am really enjoying it. The ratings are clicking up and I think it will find and hold its audience. The type of criticism it is getting makes me uneasy.
Although I intended to watch TELL ME WHAT YOU SAW (being both a JH and OCN fan) I think that won’t happen now. TGTZ may be my one crime drama for now. I want to start RDTK2. I recently caught up on the first series.
I just saw a trailer on Netflix for (another favorite) Yoon Hyun-min’s upcoming sci-fi drama MY HOLO LOVE. I want to work that in. So many dramas with not enough hours.
