What song got you into Kpop? For me it was this masterpiece: I Love You by 2NE1

December 2016: I’d been watching a variety of kpop MVs for a few weeks because other beanies seemed to be really into this kpop thing and I thought I would check it out. I hadn’t found anything that really grabbed me but then I saw GOT7’s Just Right and I completely fell for the song and the seven guys singing it.

I like the lyrics and the MV is really cute!

I’ve always loved the encouraging lyrics to this song. <3

@raonah It is INSANE to me that I’ve liked them longer than you (by like…3 months) but you are such a better fan than I am!
i got into kpop by this dance practice https://youtu.be/4EvV0IXd1BU of Just Right back in Sept/Oct of 2016. My dear Delightful Gal A was watching GOT7 dance practices at work and was sort of sucked in. I liked the song right away and I thought the dance practices were funny. I thought JB WAS HOT LIKE FIRE and really dug Jinyoung in his hat. I thought Jackson was too extra by far and needed to simmer all the way down with his insane behind. But somewhere before the end of the night I was in love with every song that she had played for me and I really dug that blond kid.

😂 I can’t believe you thought Jackson was too wild at first.

I kept trying to deny it. I was so smitten by the end of the night with Jackson. But like the first few dance practices I watched I was like—that kid is so try hard. He needs to sit down immediately. But by the second dance video I was like…insane. But hot. By the end of the night I could see his personality past all of the extraness. He’s a good bias. He’s done me well all of this time.

I remember it as if it was yesterday. The song was SNSD’s Genie/Tell Me Your Wish. I thought it was just perfect. I started listening to SNSD and other K-pop groups after.

As sad as it sounds, it was Produce 101, s2 – before I knew about how mistreated the trainees are 🙁 – & BTS “Boy in Luv”. I was checking out the originals of songs performed that I’d kind of like, which led to me finding the original Boy in Luv and absolutely falling in love with it.

I’m not an Army or a BTS fan but I still maintain that “Boy in Luv” (besides “Tomorrow”) is one of their best songs PERIOD. It’s just so good!

It is! I love how the members play with various sounds – growls, a car, etc etc throughout the song. Apart from the rock sound haha. 😁 It’s what made me fall in love

ha ha ha a.. me too.. found boy in luv and fire (BP) through produce s2..

gotta give them the credit to even get me an iota bit interested in kpop..

i’d listened to kpop so many times before but never liked even one song (ridiculous because now those same songs i can listen to on repeat.. Big Bang being the biggest ones to benefit.. lol.. life is funny)

It just takes that one song. Once you get into it, it’s so diverse there’s something for everyone.

ha ha.. i wonder.. to be very honest.. boy in luv is the only song of BTS that i actually listen to.. rest i haven’t even able to complete half way through..

or bP.. i think i just like that part “fire part..

but yes.. indeed.. it takes 1 song to get into sthg…
like cheer up (thnks all variety shows that were playing it at oen point in time) and produce S2 😛

“it” – I meant Kpop, not BTS. You’re free to find their music unlistenable lol.

          sorry. cut midway..

but yeah the song that really made me take notice of kpop has to be “Let’s not fall in love” and “Loser”.. made series overall

yup meant kpop too.. bts is one of the groups.. i don’t think i can call any of the groups a consistent performer for my taste..and it’s amazing how people stan music of particular groups ..they must be performing for them, i guess..

rather overall. .. in any language.. it always is about that one thing to get you started (kpop or any entertainment content)

For me it was DBSK’s “Proud” (Japanese release). I was trading songs with my friend over our Sony Ericsson walkman phones (ah, those were the days) in 2007. Started listening to K-pop and never looked back.

Island by Winner, but it was really the dance practice video and Mino’s dancing there that drew me in.

I wouldn’t really say I’m “in to” kpop, because I only pay attention to one group, but I accidentally saw Mamamoo on You Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook doing “Mr Ambiguous” and “Um Oh Ah Yeh”. Besides the visuals and the music, I liked they way they obviously (even to a total noob) tweaked to words to work in the names of the host and the show. It seemed like they were having more fun than people are supposed to have while under a slave contract 🙂

I think it was one of Super Junior or SNSD’s old song (circa 2009), but then I got a bit tired of Kpop after 1 or 2 years. Then SHINee rekindled it years later with their Sherlock album.

Oh, but I can’t NOT mention how several years before that I really randomly got into Rain. After my mom died in 2010 I became OBSESSED with Ninja Assassin. Which became me being OBSESSED with Rain and seeking him out online and watching Full House 50times and then learning that that beautiful man was a singer and listening to and watching all of his stuff online. But, I didn’t become a fan–as in listening to the music as part of my everyday life–until GOT7.
Although, kind of CNblue at the same time now that I think about it. Because, the next day In Sept/Oct of 2016 DGA gave me Coffee Prince to watch and I fell down the kdrama rabbit hole and started watching whatever I could get my hot little hands on and Heartstrings was one of my first dramas—like, maybe the 3rd or 4th drama I ever watched and I fell in love HARD with Jung Yong Hwas voice. I was out in these internets trying to find this man without any clue what his name was, or any of the english lyrics to the song he sings about his father in the drama but DETERMINED to find out SOMETHING. And that lead me to CNBlue. So….CNBlue and GOT7 about the same time. But Rain a full 6 years before.
