Anyone has a genre that just not for them, doesn’t matter the quality? For me it’s Sageuks. I am not a fan of royal intrigue. I’ve watch a couple that I liked, but could never……
I like sageuks in part because I think the hanboks are so pretty and I’m fascinated by all the interesting headwear 😄 I don’t like how gory a lot of them are though. I think the only genre I won’t ever even try is horror. I don’t like scary shows.
I like horror, but I like “good” horror. With atmosphere and build up to the scares. I dislike murder porn (films like hostel etc) and jump scares because I consider that to be lazy.
I never met a genre that I didn’t like lol.
Sageuk brought me to dramaland and I’ve learnt so much about Korea’s history, culture people etc in the past 10+yrs so it has been rewarding in a way.
I try hard to like them, because some I consider to be good. I thought Moonlight Drawn By Clouds to be great, but could not finish it. Rookie Historian seems to be really great, but I’m hesitant to watch it because it’s a Sageuk.
Rookie Historian was really good and it focused more on the historians than on the royalty so you might like it better. (Also, the prince’s hanboks were so pretty 😍)
Which brings me to my second gripe with sageuks – its treatment of female characters. So I’ve been trying to gauge whether they allowed her true agency till the end.
I don’t personally relate much, because I like dramas from across almost the entire board of genres, but I definitely understand and know lots of others who can’t do certain genres.

Finish, because whenever I see anything with kings and royal court, it just makes me want to get pitch forks and groups of peasants together.

Sagueks if they’re historically accurate and everyone dies. I made it through half of Queen for Seven Days.
Horror unless it’s done so badly that it’s funny.

“I started it but just didn’t watch any more episodes for some reason”
– LT about every sageuk ever
The first half is often different and interesting and original and then the back half is exactly the same drama over and over again.
And palace intrigue? Just not that interesting.
I am tempted by Rookie Historian though.

Fantasy for me.
I tend to finish what I started, but will never rewatch or even re-read recap.

Fantasy/Wuxia/heroic fantasy don’t work for me with real people. Strangely, I have no problem when it comes to animation or webtoons/mangas/comics.
Medical and spy dramas were originally neutral to me but I soon became fed up with them.
