This is indeed great news! Just looking at her and remembering her portrayal in Who Are You already makes me want to jump ship and root for her! There's just something about the actress playing Jan-di that I don't find alluring. However, I have a feeling Lee Min-jung's character will be annoying and stalkerish...but I really can't imagine this actress doing that! If only they could pull some kind of switch-er-roo with the actresses :P

You know, the one thing that was done RIGHT in the second series of Japanese HYD was Domyouji's fiancee. I adored her. She was bubbly and obnoxious, but once she understood how much Makino and Domyouji loved each other, she stepped out of the way. Did it hurt her? Hell yeah. But she did the right thing, and even came back to help them later on.

Uhhh can't YP just marry her? So Jihoo and Jandi, soulmate, can be together...puhhahaha...

I can see why you thought she could have been Makino. She has that look. Strangely she also looks like LMH.......same coloring, face structure and features. Like her eyes and eyebrows. Now if she pouted she would look cute instead of annoying.

Confession time. I just can't like Jan-di and I really want to. I actually prefer her best friend played by Kim So-eun.

It's tough watching a series where you like everyone EXCEPT the lead actress.

I feel like jumping ship already! I even rooted for Minji! That's how badly I dislike the main actress... wait, no, I mean the main female character. She's soooooooooo annoying as of right now. Her constant shouting of lines make my head hurts. I must have said that a thousand times already. Too bad most of her scenes are with Lee Min-ho, I don't have the heart to skip forward those scenes.

LOL @ some of these comments about jumping ship. I haven't seen much of Lee Min-Jung's work... I never watched who are you. Though I think she's really pretty, I'm actually pretty happy with GHS' acting and think she suits Jan Di/ Makino pretty well. As for Jan Di pouting and screaming, I can't really blame GHS cuz Makino's character is hella annoying in the manga (especially early on the series when she's screaming @ or kicking Domyouji for every little thing; the Japanese version definitely toned down this aspect of Makino's character a lot).

I agree with you Devi. Jandi screams and yells because she was freaking screeching and annoying in the manga...which thankfully she got better later on in the manga. In terms of look wise, GHS make a good Makino, each person has their own opinion and if people can't stay this Makino just don't watch the drama. No need to bash.

Jandi's character better step it up now!

I really liked Tsukasa's fiance in HDY, and looks like Lee will be a very sweet and likable character. However, as the japanese version we know how this is going to end don't we...

She was always suppose to be a pitiful character. You believe in her love and like her. It's the strength of Jandi and Jun Pyo's love and your liking of Jan-di that is supposed to hold you back from loving her.

Since I hate the Korean Makino, Jandi, with a burning fire, I think I'll end up liking her too much (unless they purposely make her do something really despicable as a way of saying. Which I think would ruin her and be a dirty way of shifting interest so I sincerely hope not).

I actually do like and sympathize with Jan Di, though I do like Inoue Mao's portrayal in the Japanese version better. Makino in the Japanese version feels a lot softer and more vulnerable, but I think we're beginning to see more moments of vulnerability in Jan Di as well. I think they just need to tone down her character a bit, and more people will be able to connect to her; I think this can be done without turning her into a total weakling.

I also agree with you, Devi. I think Jandi is more similar to Makino's character. Just finished HYD anime, dang.. she is really annoying to watch!! Love GHS' acting, she is so cute esp. the bar scene in 3rd ep.

I don't want to give up on Jandi ...I do like her scenes with Rui where she's serious and not acting cute so I am hoping her chemistry with GJP will improve when the drama takes a serious turn. Right now Jandi has zero chemistry with JP. Zilch. It's too bad because GJP is hot hot hot.

Aw man, now it'll make it hard for me to hate Junpyo's fiancee =P I love Lee Min Jung especially in Who Are You? (AMAZING drama =D).

I also kinda think that she would have been great for the role of Jandi. I think her face expressions wouldn't be as exaggerated as Koo Hye Sun but still bring out the character's cuteness (without the over exaggeration). The only think is that I think she is way to pretty to play Jandi's part =P. But that doesn't mean I don't like Hye Sun...she just gets annoying sometimes =P (but still cute).

Like most people here, I don't like Jan Di. She is so irritating as a character. I'd understand if she yells when she's frustrated but Jan Di yells all the time -- when she's talking with her parents, with Jun Pyo, etc.
I would definitely root for Min Jung's character and Jun Pyo although I do know they won't ever have a happy ending.
I'm happy that Min Jung is included in the cast. At the moment, I just read your (Javabeans) recaps and fast forward to Ki Bum and So Eun's scenes. At least when she's finally in the cast, I will be able to watch more scenes...
There's a lot about the drama that's really off and usually, it's the little details that maybe the writers don't think is important but actually is the complete opposite. One thing that comes to mind is the fact that Jan Di (Makino) and Min Ji (Sakurako) are supposed to pretend that they are not friends, right? In episode 05, they are in the school entrance holding hands and ran towards the tv where they saw Jan Di's picture with a random guy. (Obviously people will think they are friends) When Min Ji went home early and Jan Di visited her, Jan Di said it's okay because no one knows that she's visiting (alluding to the fact that they are supposed to be pretending that they are not friends) And then when notes are being passed around the classroom saying Jan Di is going to be beaten up, after the bell rang, Min Ji expressly said goodbye to Jan Di at least twice in front of other people (when's the actual pretending taking place?).

I hate Jan Di. I wish this girl plays Jan Di. But oh well, that ship has already sailed.
Honestly, it is sooo hard to get invested in a series when you hate the lead character --- this must be how Javabeans felt when she was watching My Sweet Soul.

Okay, at times she may be exaggerating a little too much, but seriously. I can really relate to her character, and although she has NO CHEMISTRY with JP @ the moment, trust me.. as the episodes progress, she definetly will.

Its not GHS fault to overact and loud in some episodes.

It's the make-up, styling, and clothes, all done by KHS herself since she's going for that 'ordinary' girl vibe, that makes Jandi look much like the tough weed she is. She's not supposed to look as pretty as the fiancee or as pretty as the girls F4 normally hangs around with.

But I have feeling that no matter who was chosen for the role of Jandi, given the largely female fan-base/viewership of HYD, we'd all still have the same nit-picky comments about the actress' looks and acting abilities, especially since she's paired with a hot male lead who just oozes out buckets of charisma.

People if she plays the role of Jandi, you will be hating her too since she will be directed to yell and screams and be angry for the most part because that's what she will be directed to do and what's in the manga. Stop hating GHS the actor just because she's portraying the character, she's not like that in real life. This girl is a good choice for Shigeru, I can totally imagine her in the role.

I am one of the people who don't like Jan Di -- a part of it is the characterization itself (how the character was developed) and a part of it is the actress' portrayal of the character.
I don't really know if Gu Hye Sun is a good actress since this is the first time I've seen her act but I am not entertained and not impressed.
I'm still going to watch this drama though because of Ki Bum and Kim So Eun. I also like the girl playing Oh Min Ji's character. And now another reason to watch the drama is Lee Min Jung playing Jun Pyo's fiancee...

I don't know why people don't like the main actress either...She looks beautiful, not sexy but has charm and a pretty smile. Plus she's going to debut as a singer who compose her own songs soon, which make her multi-talented person. Not to mention, she has the toughest parts comparing to any other actors in the drama, having being thrown at with foods and other violent behaviors. If I was her, I would be screaming and pulling his perm out of their roots too. Is it because they have toned down JunPyo's characters and nonsense attitude but keep Jandi the tough girl who is always shouting at the now-JunPyo who have been potrayed as prince charming?
The actress above is pretty but she also looks like a typical korean actress...don't overpraise someone just to put someone down,

People don't like the main actress because she overacts the character. It's funny how some people who prefer the Korean version would defend LMH for down-playing Domyouji's personality, but praise her for acting according to or rather overacting Makino's strong personality. Certainly each version have their own flaws and beauty, but my theory is that people have a LMH craze more than a BOF craze. I hope the addition of this character would at least spark something more than animosity in Jan Di. She's starting to become like the girl lead in Zettai Kareshi pinning over her initial crush and ignoring the affections from the obviously better choice.

I have to admit that Lee Min-jung is pretty but I am glad that she wasn't cast as Jandi. I believe the main reason that JunPyo fell for Jandi is not because she's pretty but, as corny as it may sound, because he loves her personality and her spunk. Jandi is supposed to look ordinary. If someone too pretty were to play her, her look might distract us from the real factor that is supposed to be attractive to JunPyo; her personality. I think Go Hye Sun is doing great as Jandi. She would be so much better if she toned down her over-exaggerated acting sometimes. I definitely feel the chemistry between her and Lee Min Ho.

Anyhoo, I'm eager to see what Lee Min-jung brings to the character of JunPyo's fiancee. I hated the fiancees in both the Taiwanese and Japanese versions.

Obviously its not bashing I think. People are object to thier own preference. Did you say that we can't not dislike the potraying of the character. The point is not that we dislike GHS in person. To critizie one acting doesn't mean we are bashing them personally. Bashing mean we associated the virtual affairs ( i. e acting) and attack them irrationally personally. It;s different in this case. Most of all we annoyed by Jandi's potraying of character didnt dislike GHS. I think she is a good person as a person, I just can feel it but I beg to differ in her acting wise.

The point is as Aya mentioned is not about of the manga's character as annoying but her failures (in the eyes who just can't like the earlier Jandi's acting) to portray the actual character per se. For instance being annoyed as the actual character, being loud and screaming and pouting didnt have to get all over the lung of you. You didn't have to shout as loudest as you say to being called as shouting. Just that. Is like the depth of the character. For instance again, Jun Pyo's acting is sure is depth and we can see his emotion swinging. I.e to look mad want to throw the anger by screaming at people doesn't mean he has to sream out to his lung. That what we means. But everyone, to their own preference. While, there is some of us who feel it was painful to feel enjoy this show because of Jandi's but they are other who like it. As I love Yoon Eun Hye, arrowhead's portrayal of character and some other do not. Simple as that.
