Extension looking likely for Boys Before Flowers

A week after deciding against extending the series, now KBS is tentatively announcing plans to extend Boys Before Flowers by an episode, which means the drama would end on Tuesday, March 31, with Episode 25.

They had originally intended to end on the 30th and air a special on the 31st. If the extension falls through (they say they are “in serious steps” to rework the contract to include Episode 25), the special episode will be Plan B.

Don’t expect much story addition, though. One sources says that they may merely “draw out” parts that have been filmed to fill out a 25th hour rather than add new story, which (1) may not be a bad thing, since the plot often moves so fast there’s no room to breathe, but (2) on the other hand, may make for a slow finale, as in the case of Coffee Prince.

This can work either way - depends on how they make use of the final episode. Thanks for the update!

I hope that whatever they do, the ending makes SOME amount of sense. I hate it when shows get extended and then you go all WTF about how they filled out those extra episodes. Not that I'm holding my breath for a completely logical ending, given the nature of the show up to this point, but still..

Errr... "draw out"? Hmm....I feel like there is already a fair amount of "drawing out" (err Jae-kyung?) so I'm not thrilled by this. Oh well, this won't change my plans for the BBF finale "party" I'll be having...

I was wondering about this b/c I read in soompi earlier about it being all official already..
Anyways..one extra episode isn't so bad..it will give a chance for some of those plot holes to be filled (well hopefully at least).

Yeah i didn't quite like the ending of Coffee Prince. It felt like they were stalling. Anti climax. I hope they don't drag BBF out just for the sake of ending it on a Tuesday! But then again, an extra hour of Lee Min-ho / Gu Jun-pyo can't be that bad. ;-)

meh. In a larger view, one episode addition isn't much of a difference... if it's going to draw the storyline out more, episode 24 will most likely be a skippable episode >_<

YESS!!! and.. NOOO!!! I always have mixed feelings about extensions... "dragging" out the plot doesn't really seem like a good solution, but we'll see. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for an awesome finale!!

Well whatever happens, they'd better contact Kamio Yoko and work fast - the end of March is really not that far away, tbh.

extension? really?
i, for one, am looking forward for this appalling series to end. so that everyone can actually focus on quality dramas.

I'm actually already thinking they are dragging it now so one more epi would make it further frustrating for me. It's just that some previous episodes were so silly and "unbelievable" I dread to see a few more of those. In fact I was skipping so many scenes lately to make it bearable (especially episodes where they make JD either stupid, weak or just pure dumb, sorry). So yeah, not liking the extension. Coffee Prince all over again.

If they were planning on doing something interesting with the extension then I'd be happy. A flash forward could be fun or maybe a SoEul wedding if the rumours about Jundi are true but if all they're doing is dragging out season 2 which is already feeling dragged out I'd rather they didn't extend it. What's the point?

I remember reading that Kamio Yoko and the company representing her has not given permission to create extension to the kdrama.
She has only agreed for them to film the was it 24 eps.

@ Jo: The point would be to make the extreme high ratings last for KBS as long as possible.

Well, all I have to say is if we are gonna get some crap episode, I'd rather they do a special like goong where ALL (yes, all,) the castmembers are present. The show is not made out of F4 only you know????

Otherwise, I'm expecting a nice surprise and no crying JanDi or anyone for that matter (unless they are crying tears of joy...) in that last episode. Please make that one last one shine...

Random question: do you think your site attracted more people for Coffee Prince or for BOF? Is BOF your site's "biggest" drama so far? Curious...thanks!

Javabeans!!!

Ok so I was gonna wait till your Open Friday thingies, whatever that's called. But, I have to get back to work soon so might as well leave a comment here. Lolz.

Idk if this'll sound too random but, I was watching Ugly Betty yesterday. Idk where you're from so if you don't know what that show is, it's about this not so pretty girl who works at a fashion magazine.

But anyway, I haven't really watched the show much but yesterday I caught an episode...by accident...and apparently what's happening is Betty is dating this guy who she thinks is a normal guy but is really a billionaire...SOOOOO!!!!

I saw the preview of next week's episode and...it's like...BBF but AMERICAN! I KNOWWW right??? Ok so, from the preview I guess Betty is with her rich boyfriend at a function in which the boyfriend's mother is also there and...the closing line of the preview was the mother going something like "It was nice meeting you Betty but I don't think we'll be seeing you again."

So I just thought, OMG I have to tell javabeans! I wonder what she'll think of the sorta American version of the rich boy poor girl evil mother attempt.

Anyway, let me know if you can catch it. By all means...don't blog on it...Lolz what with it not being Korean and all but, I have this avid hatred of American remakes of Asian movies, and I know this isn't a remake at all whatsoever, it's only one episode, but I thought it would be a bit interesting to get your opinion on it.

Although, the boyfriend in Ugly Betty is nice and not that cocky so...there's none of that awesomeness but, the mother does seem like a biatch. Lolz!

Ok...that was it.

O yea...that's Ugly Betty on ABC at 8PM on Thursdays.

: )

Love your site!!

Actually, my friend from Colombia says Ugly Betty is based on a Spanish TV show that aired in 1999 to 2001 called "Betty la fea". According to Wikipedia, there are spin-offs and remakes all over the world, Portugal, Israel, India, Turkey, Germany, Russia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Czech Republic, Vietnam, the Philippines, Poland, Brazil... I might have missed a few.

You can read about it on Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_la_Fea

I'm not sure about the exact scene you were talking about though, if that's in the original or not.

O my gosh. I only discovered BBF like 2 days ago and I absolutely love it! I regularly watch variety shows and saw that they were ALL making BBF parodies, and so I checked it out just to see what the hype was about. And now I'M HOOKED!

I came across this website to find out more about the series and the F4, and THIS SITE IS AWESOME. I wish I had discovered it when I was watching the other dramas back in the day. Anyways, I just finished watching episode 8 and I don't want to read the recaps for the rest of the episode because I don't want to ruin it for myself...

I've developed a liking for Kim Hyun-Joong when I saw him on We Got Married with Huang Bo - I admit I was a little biased and didn't like him at first because I don't really like the "pretty-boy" types, but his humor and his laid-back but oddly charming personality won me over. I love his quirky vibe and I can see glimps of it in the drama, which is adorable because I know in those particular moments, he's being himself.

I've never seen Lee Min-Ho before BBF, and I gotta admit his curly hair definitely made it harder for me to like him at first. (And have you noticed he has a HUGE head compared to the other guys in F4? or is it just the perm? lol.) Anyways, I couldn't believe it when I read that he's a 87er... I can't believe I'm 2 years older than him... But in terms of his character and how he portrays it in the drama, he definitely has a subtle charm about him. Yea, I know 90% of the hype is about his looks, but besides that, I think he's got a great personality on screen and adorable. I find myself liking him more and more.

And let me just add, what's with the french maids' outfit at Jun-Pyo's house? Those were the most ridiculous looking costumes ever. What kind of maids ACTUALLY dress like that? Maybe it was part of their attempt to make it look more like the manga, but I think that just totally makes it look elementary. Some of the scenes are very slapstick, especially the scenes with Jan-di's family, and yea, I can see how that would be appropriate for manga or a cartoon adaptation, but to take it literally in the live-action drama makes it feel like i'm watching a kid's show. If i wanted to see that, I would read the manga.

But overall, I still can't get enough of the series, and hopefully i'll be caught up with the episodes by the end of this weekend.

Javabeans, you are great. I finally have a place to rant and rave about my Kdrama obsession. I've been looking for a place to do this, since I am the only one among my friends who watch Kdramas and it's been KILLING ME to talk about it. Keep up the good work!

I guess an extension is good but they already seems to be dragging the storylines, especially the JK story!! Just close it already. They still have other obstacles to go through! lols. I don't want to spoil it since I watched both Jap and Taiwan version, and anime! I read the manga too! lols. ADDICT! I confess!

@Jan29

It's the American version, I haven't been keeping up with the current episodes (BSG is back after all and I only have so much bandwidth) but I've seen the promo. The fact rich boyfriend's mother doesn't like her reinforces my Daniel/Betty shipping but it being UB she could be the American Darth Mama.

@Peeps
In other words it looks good for the network drama be damne.d?

@Su

You have a lot of catching up to do! I myself watch the episodes first then read the episode recaps here at Dramabeans. I do it that way because even if I watch the episodes entirely without fail, her insights are always, always great. There were times when I thought I really got the direction of the episodes and then, after reading her recaps, I say..."Hey, why didn't I think of that? Or I failed to notice that!"

BBF and this site rocks!

@ Jan29,

Yea I don't know too much about Ugly Betty. And I'm definitely not saying that it's a remake or spin off or anything of BBF. The previews of next week's episode just reminded me of the episode in BBF of the party where Jandi had to play piano and shizz...and the mean mother in the preview reminded me of the mother in BBF. Lolz. But otherwise the storylines are completely different so yea.

Thanks though!

and yeah to one more episode! I dread the end of this show.
