Enlistment date set for Joo Ji-hoon

Joo Ji-hoon has received his army enlistment date: February 2, which was announced by his management on the 14th.

The actor had been intending to enlist early at the end of last year following his drug bust and ensuing indictment. Joo has kept a very low profile since the scandal broke and, aside from performing community service that was a part of his court-ordered punishment, he hasn’t been seen at all. He is currently preparing to enter into military service, where he will serve full-time for two years in the reserve forces.

This actually works well for him (considering the circumstances) since he was given a year’s probation with a six-month suspended sentence; since he’ll be in the army during his probationary period, it’s as good as wiping that six-month suspended sentence off his record now. Plus, he had been banned from appearing on television stations KBS and MBC, and with the scandal blackening his reputation, it wasn’t like he would be able to work. Since he was born in 1982, he would have had to enlist by this year anyway. Perhaps by the time he’s out, he’ll have a chance to rehabilitate his image. (Army duty has a way of whitewashing images, I’ve noticed…)

Do your best in your MS
Be healthy and strong......
And we got your last message

2008.12.31 All memories are still in my mind.
Unwarely a year has passed by. Better let this year go, shouldn’t i?
There are used to be plenty of works, study hard, and many stories to think over.
For me, 2008-2009, this 2 years seem like a memory
that I will never forget throughout my life.
This coming year: have to enlist in military service, surely there’ll be work to do,
coming tasks are many as always.
When it comes to facing new thing, the feeling of solitary is overwhelming,
unable to know what lies ahead.
I just hope that this kind of feeling will make me think over and to prepare for what’s coming.
While I’m thinking and recalling the time that passed by,
I can feel the beautiful memories and the warm cheerful smiles.
Somehow, still I keep in mind that this year will be the last year for having this bad feeling.
Through days that passing by are filled with memories, just like this passing year.
The feeling like this, once I open my eyes, still I have this feeling as I always do.
I want to be back in that feeling, the impressive memories and being with you all.
I still hope in 2010, hope that all of us will live our lives seriously and be happy,
and all feelings will be related and sensed by heart, and continue to live on.
We have to be more rational like this, right?
May the rest of 2009 be filled with fun.
For tomorrow that is coming, do wait for a year,
and after all this, please keep every thought in mind, and be more happy and happy.
Good bye 2009 and Happy new year.

during all these events, I've felt that events a bit absurd and most people overreacted. I've ever and never blamed for him cause that event was about his personal life. as an audince I've never felt any negative effect about his acting or anything else. I also don't understand the ban of the channels.
I really like his acting, day by day I'm sure he'll be an elite actor.
I'm looking forward to his coming back

i hope that joo ji hoon will reflect on his past actions that led to all the craziness that was 2009 for him while he's in service.. like JB said, a lot of people that go into the army come out with better images, so i hope that this will also happen to JJH.

2 years and some months should be plenty of time for people to miss him.. and hopefully by then, all the tv networks will be willing to work with him again.

I wouldn't worry too much about him. After all, there have been cases of other celebrities who managed to get away with murder without terminating their careers. I'm sure he'll appear again after 2 years.

Look at the celebrities in the US... these celebrities checked themselves to the drugs rehab centre and the next thing you know, they come clean in the next few months... don't really understand why the Korean government and the fans are so paranoid about this!

I bet everyone still love Robert Downey Jr (main actor from Iron Man and Sherlocks Holmes), he used to be frequently arrested on drug-related charges and went through several drug treatment programmes - look where he is now, a superstar!

Come one, give Joo Ji Hoon a chance! He can come back... his acting is way better than most of the movie/tv stars in Korea!

I am glad that he is still alive. I really hope that the military years can erase any sort of bad connotation people have towards him. And he comes back better than ever. I always felt that he had incredible screen presence but The Devil just wowed me away. After that i watched and re-watched all his work. He has so much talent and potential; its all just wasted due to over-reaction from a society that has an impossible(almost hypocritical) level of moral conduct to keep up with. But the good thing was that he had to enlist for army-duty anyway a year or so later. And now hopefully this will have him come out stronger and as a better actor and a human being. Good luck to you and i will be waiting for whatever project you will have in the future...

hopefully by the time he comes out of the army, it'll all be forgiven and forgotten, and he can start his career anew. Personally, I think koreans really have a way of overreacting to things. JJH's one-or-two-time drug use, former 2PM member Jaebum's myspace thing.. geez.

I know drugs are terrible, but I think that the whole ordeal was blown out of proportion. I mean, banning him from KBS and MBC, being put in a negative light by the media, and the public looking down on him? That's really harsh. If it were me, that type of punishment would make me sink back into drugs...S. Korea is really hellbent on keeping the streets clean, I guess.

Anyways, best of luck to him. I really like Joo Ji-Hoon, and hopefully going to the army will allow him to start afresh.

I am not a fan of Joo Ji Hoon, but I am all for giving him a second chance, so I wish him the best. I don't know if people will still welcome him back into the acting world, I also don't know if military service will "clean" his image, but I do pray that after all that he has gone through he will emerge a stronger and better person. I think he is a brave man, facing all the bad press around him without buckling down or "checking out". Stay healthy, stay positive and stay alive. I salute all the people who stood by him (family, friends and fans) and are still standing by him. Your support must be one of the reasons that he is still sane and alive and can still look to the future with positivity.

@23 saryKIM:
I agree with you.

They overeacted on Park Shin Yang's case. Remember how all TV channels banned him just because he was fighting for his rights and demanding the money they promised to give him if he worked on 'Money's War' bonus round? If they thought his salary was to high why did they accept to pay him in first place? Now he's being punished for fighting for his rights? It's ridiculous! Why didn't they banned Song Seung Hun too? His salary is just as high or even higher than Park Shin Yang and Song Seung Hun doesn't have near 1/2 of Park Shin Yang's talent in acting.

The way people overeacted to 2PM's Jaebum's case was also ridiculous. They treated him like the enemy of the nation just because of a few things he wrote 4-5 years ago when he was lonely, immature and unfamiliar with Korean culture. Some koreans even made a suicide petition and they ruined the boy's career. It was very unfair how Jaebum was treated.

And there was also that singer (i forgot his name) that was kicked out of Korea and got a lot of antis and had his career ended just because he was korean-american and tried to use his american citizenship in order to not go to military service.

Ah... and also there was Ivy's case. She was treated as a vilain, bashed, banned from TVs when she was being blackmailed by an ex-boyfriend that spread a rumour that she was two-timing him and that he had a sex-tape with her. The sex-tape never surface, but she lost CF deals and she's still always being critisized. She released an album las year, but TV channels didn't invited her to variety shows to promote her CD.

As for Joo Ji Hoon... He shouldn't be using drugs because it's bad for his health and he's a public figure and has many young fans but he wasn't promoting drugs or influencing his fans to use it. The way that the media and the population banned him and bashed him is not nice. Besides that... He using ecstasy and marijuana, right? Most celebs use these drugs anyway. Drug addiction is something hard to overcome and it's not by bashing him and destroying his career that koreans will 'teach him a lesson'.

I understand that Korea (and most asian countries) have a different culture and way of seeying things different than western countries. But I think they should just relax and stop overeacting with everything. It's not all types of mistakes that you should treat as if the person hurted the pride of the nation or as if he killed someone.

PS: Why Ryu Shi Won still has a career even after killing a person? While these people I mentioned had their careers put on hold or had their careers destroyed just because of a muuuuuuuuuch smaller mistake.

Oh, does Ryu Shi Won really still have a career? from what I have read, his last drama (can't remember the title), really bombed........... maybe he is acting again, but i think Koreans have not really welcomed him back yet ..........

as for joo ji hoon, i wish him the best in all his future endeavors, whether it is acting or some other stuff.....

Certain kinds might understand JJH, he's young, a celebrity might take his glory overwhelming and turn to drugs addiction as a weakness for temporary relief. Totally get over it! C'mon, alcohol is also an addiction. The main point is (which would you rather) seeing someone inflict hurt onto self or another, as JJH chose to harm his wellbeing than another. I will never promote drugs nor alcohol, however I acknowledge far worst drugs out there which JJH is smart enough to ignore.

If there is any hype over JJH's military entry then I suppose his management wishes fans to offer him a clean slate after his serve. That "real man" image may go well or not, is yet to be seen and proven, however it is a more promising image than his current stagnant state. A guy gots to make a living.

I surely wish JJH well, and thrive on.... there are truly better things in life and I wish to see him open his mind and heart to those better things.^ , ^

the Korean system is absolutely out of age and mostly unable to discern tural seriousness of an act. Joo Ji-hoon was broken by a medieval justice.
