@49 Carinne
I can't believe PS Man is still on! But then again, TW dramas only air one episode a week. I watched PS Man up till episode 7 (give or take)...by then, the episodes started feeling pretty filler-y to me. I can't imagine it being more of a filler by episode 15. I was hoping to go back to it and speed watch it. Lemme know what the final verdict on the series is!

@ 50 xiaoSxin

it's hard to say.... I think Playful Kiss will get a ratings boost cuz KHJ has a lotta fangirls, even if his acting leaves something to be desired. Not saying the boy isn't gorgeous to look at though :)

Personally, I'm looking forward to MGiaG much more. LSG looks adorably whipped in all the promo pics and SMA is gorgeous. Combined with it being a Hong Sisters drama, it's got me sold.

@ 50 xiaoSxin, I'm personally hoping for a head-to-head ratings war for their runs: let them both be so good we can't decide which is better.

It's better than be cruelly disappointed by the drama gods.

MGiG is bring more star power to the table, and PK is bringing more fan power. Arguably either story can be derailed by the details, but both dramas have a sincere starting point. I truly am hoping Kim Hyun Jun can break out in this role, both for his sake personally and for all of the manga fans.

On a coin flip, I'm going to say PK will prevail in initial ratings. MGiG is not going to create the buzz and fan-base in one entire episode that KHJ will generate in the opening credits.

Let the war begin!

@50

They both share the same fanbase (teenaged girls and housewives) so it's difficult to say who will have a higher rating but I have a feeling that MGiaG will prevail. From watching BoF and Brilliant Legacy, I prefer LSG's acting over KHJ's and I'll be tuning in for his drama.

----

Anyways, has anyone seen Kim Soo Hyun's CF with Park Eun Bin for Lotte 2%? It's cute and funny.

LOL! "To His Coy Mistress" is one of my favorite poems, so I had to comment.

@lovenyc52
I totally second Hotaru no HIkari recommendation! Probably my favorite role by Ayase Haruka. And she had loads of chemistry with Fujiki Naohito. JIN was wonderful too (probably one of the best jdoramas of 2009 imho).

I'm not sure how I feel about Coffee House lately...but I'm finishing up Return of Iljimae this week (which is really lovely) and hopefully will start Resurrection this weekend (UTW!)

K, first it was bad limericks. now I have moved on to bad editing.

I couldn't take it any more. Dong Yi was screaming at me to make an 80's music video. I only used the first 10 minutes or so of episode 29. but you get the mood of the entire melodramatic epic that is Dong Yi (I think). Please let me know what you think. I already made another one that is uploading too...I hope this won't occupy my weekend :)

@50...its really hard to tell but MGiaG has a head start as it airs on Aug 11 while PK doesnt start till Sept...so I think they could get a stronger hold onto raings before PK starts bt this could of course not be the case as we have witnessed many times before...plus group 8 is trying to build the BOF hype again with all the publicity and casting speculations...and that too may or may not work....plus they both have a very strong rival in KBS's BKTG which is ruling the roost right now...I want them both to be head to head like someone else mentioned

Mine too! :)

Seriously coffee house is driving me insane!! At first I was SY/ JS all the way, but then I was charmed by EY, and thought that I wouldn't mind too much if she ended up with Jin Soo. I was a little disappointed but I made my peace with it. But then the show started playing Russian roulette with the pairing and the only word that will articulate my feelings is arrrrgh! I am afraid to hope for my preferred couple but then I can't help but hope. I feel like a yo yo at the whim of the writers and directors.

@13 splgt001

Thankfully I am in the hospital as a nurse, not a patient. My career of choice, unfortunately, enables my workplace to ask for 24/7 coverage (I know, the gall!!!) I will just pretend it's a Wednesday now, so that when I am off Mon-Wed, it will feel like a 3 day weekend...

@32 dannaluk

I feel for you... time goes by so SLOOOWWWW when you are around people you don't know doing something you don't want to do. I love my job, but sometimes, a girl's just gotta take a break. Maybe I should convince my employer to give me a month off so I can go to Korea and take a drama sabbatical...

@37 Leonardswench

You and I are on the same wavelength, sister! Love me some City Hall... damn Kim Sun Ah and Cha Seung Won for being such great actors I just can't resist them... I am so into this drama it's not even funny. That proposal scene- IT GETS ME EVERY TIME!

Making jam? I love it. Can you tell me how to make jam? I have always wanted to learn how to do that, and now I can hit you up for pointers...

it's sooo nice to see someone who enjoys Capital Scandal as much as I do. I've seen it twice all the way through (thanks, KBS World for reshowing it!).

I have to say the weakest link for me was Han Jimin -- she certainly can look/be more feminine and sexy. I KNOW it was her character -- Jo Maja lol --but it was hard to buy the OTP of her and....hmmm, i think he's somebody's I Lub You?? keke.

@42 asianromance -- I finished My Country Calls just over a week ago, and actually had to look at dramawiki to see who this ryu jin character was that overshadowed them all. Well, yes, I agree that he did, but sad that the show was so forgettable and in such a short period. I am 4 episodes into Personal Taste and liking it better. But the subtitles for the Jdrama Mother are complete now, so I have to decide if it is better to take a little pause to have a heartwrenching story of an abused child, followed by the cheery final 12 episodes, or finish up the cheeriness and then have some sadness in my life.

@Gigi (64)

I just finished CH, I have that huge emotional 'bubble' leftover from a drama done perfectly -- yeah, I said it. At some point, I'll go back episode-by-episode and argue (politely) with the reviewer here who took some exceptions to the show.

Jam is no problem, what kind do you want to make? We have an organic farm and ranch, so it's fig and peach season, and I love homemade jams/jellies (so much more flavor than store bought). The Texas Viking (hubby) is picking grapes tomorrow, so that means grape jam and juice and maybe some homemade wine if I like the taste of the grapes that way!

Now what to watch? It's so hard to pick up something else after a CH high?? Maybe Bad Guy, I need me some Kim Nam Gil to balance the universe. Cha Seung-won's wife is SSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOO lucky. It may have been a shotgun wedding, but his legs and eyes would be so worth it!

A reviewer who took exception to City Hall? Blasphemy. I thought I beat everyone into submission a year ago? It makes me so warm inside to know you enjoyed it a lot. City Hall is my Whoa Drama and occupies a special place in my heart, where Jo Gook and Mirae twins and rule all of Korea. And Boo Mi comes over for girl's night outs at the Mexico and Chicken.

I love that there are soo many Coffee House watchers/addicts here. I'm really glad that this drama is airing during the summer, because boy, how my grades would take a dive if I watch this during the school year. I've NEVER EVER watch ANY drama right after it's aired in Korea, and have NEVER put myself through watching raw videos and being completely clueless. Coffee House has gotten me waaaayyy too emotionally invested, and I'm really really anxious for the finale. KJH is now one of my favorite korean actor. I totally enjoyed Hong Gil Dong and I'm so glad that he's in Coffee House.

Hey guys, Happy Friday/Saturday!

Right now I'm at a side job, which is boring to say the least, but I'm saving up for an upcoming trip (in which I will appear like a phantom to my family and friends, including my 6-year relationship ex-boyfriend, after having being away for almost 8 years with no prior notice then disappear just as promptly....dramatic, yes, but insecurity gives me no options sadly. )

Right now I'm watching Sons of Sol Pharmacy and the Return of Ilijimae slowly, since I have this habit of skipping forward once the suspense gets to be too much and I don't want to miss a minute of Ilijimae.

I just finished City Hall two days ago. Took me a while to fall in love, but boy did I. The soundtrack is currently on constant replay.

Anyways, it's almost time for me to leave, woot! enjoyed scrolling through the posts, thanks for the entertainment guys :).

I know exactly what you mean by emotional "bubble". I always feel lost after re-watching City Hall. It's so hard to find something that can compare. I agree, Cha Seung Won looks AMAZING in those suits. He just looks so fashionable all the time. Must be the long legs and those looks. I love his coloring too. Just a sexy, sexy man.

I envy you guys having a farm. At this point I have never made jam so any starting pointers would be good. i really LOVE strawberry jam though... any tips on that?

@72 ockoala

I think you need to beat some more people into submission. I can never understand how some people did not like City Hall.

@lb_tmi: Working too much this week threw me more. I thought on Thursday that I could go home to read the OT, but it was Thursday. Now I'm free of work for at least a good solid 30 hours or so, I should make with some minimal sleeping, food consuming and drama watching.

@41 mellowyel: I really like that song! Thanks for posting it for us.
_
I want to watch the end of Mother but I keep putting it off. I need a cream soda to pour on the sidewalk for its final frames. Or maybe a Melon Cream Soda. Those are pretty delicious. They're also green. Why? Well, it's Japan. Why not. I also need to watch Hotelier. I will get to at least episode 4 this weekend, that's my challenge. If I can sit still that long.

PREVIOUSLY, on OT #144. . .
Thanks for all your concerns about my hair. It didn't fall out. I am appreciative of small blessings. I pretend like nothing happened. Nothing happened, right? (sigh)

@Supah: Now seriously. I need to get my hands on the Giant Opening. I love the poster, where do I get this?! I bet it plays the sweeping epic song that I so favor the most. . . . If it starts crooning "loving you" I will break my monitor. I can't believe we're inching closer to the halfway point and we're still not tired. Go us! On a sidenote, I sometimes feel that Joo Sang Wook (omg a real person plays Min-woo, no way, I'm ruining the magic here) looks like he's just going to fall asleep during some scene. But I guess he has natural puffy looking eyes. In a way, I could say Min-woo needs more bed scenes. ....Double entendres!
_
Oh one final thing. Hotaru no Hikari episode 3 ending. Wow. Need Behind the Scenes footage of that, haha.

@ 83 ilovekimchee, the VOICE, how could I forget? I have this ovary melting addiction to men with low rough voices (Sam Elliott is the king of my ovary melting episodes, new Ram commercials, anyone?), and CSW has that voice.

I first saw him in Bodyguard and I can tell you, I love that because of him. It's not a great drama, I know it, everyone knows it, but he just melted me in a puddle with his voice. OMG (oh em gee, as my daughter always says).

Now if he just had dimples, she might go for him, too!! She likes his voice, too, just not in the same way as mom. (Give her some maturity, no guy has been whispering in her ears yet, thank god!)

Key to strawberry jam: good berries, about 2/3 ripe and about 1/3 slightly underripe. No overripe berries. Do you want a pectin or pectin-free recipe? And are you at altitude or sea level (it makes a difference, as does humidity)? Perfect jam is easy IF you follow all the 'rules'. Organic and wild berries are best, if you can afford them or find them. They have more flavor.

I was watching World's Within, and 2 episodes in I had to table it. It's too soon after my Goodbye Solo watch, and WW is just not flowing right. I vow to finish it to enjoy Noh Hee Kyung's excellent writing. And Song Hye Kyo had been miraculously improve her acting soon, because so far she's terrible. I feel zero emotional connection with her and the camera, and with her male leads.

I popped in Ruler of Your Own World, and so far it's so different I'm wondering if I'm watching a K-drama. However, it has given me a new addition to my Worst Hair post - Kim Jae Wook (young KJW) wears a orange streaked inverted wet mop hair on his head. It's like he borrowed it from Cousin It. But he's still handsome as can be.

@ Gigi

Ha, the City Hall tide has come and gone, the battle fought and a truce called. As much as I love City Hall, I am fully aware of its faults and failings (all dramas have them), and can list them one by one. But I shant, because at the end of the day CH made me terribly happy, and that's a wonderful feeling. Check out Thundie's review of CH, it brought out every Haller to weigh in an opinion (or four). I think Alodia wrote like a 3000 word response. Heh heh, oh Thundie's gonna kill me....

http://thundie.wordpress.com/2009/08/11/the-city-hall/

CSW- great intense and comedic actor, looks like a Prada model in suits, has a voice to die for. I shudder still to think what could've been had Ryu Shi Won taken the role of Jo Guk.

@ lovenyc52

By the time you finish THnK, then watch HnH, HnH2 should be done airing by then, and you can marathon that as well. I am loving Season 2 even more than 1 (more emotional connection and a really charming second male lead, much to my surprise).

like yellow ginger tea, you can boil yellow ginger and drink it either hot, lukewarm, or cold... i'm hoping to know what they drink in the dramas & movies and try it if i can... it might help me in achieving a healthy lifestyle ~ koreans have slim figures and clear skin, and i think part of it could be due to their diets. thanks for replying!

LOL~!!! aww my poor twin. and btw, i CANNOT believe you're finally starting Nodame. You may gush with me. :) My coworker was actually streaming it at work the other day and I literally heard like 3 bars of music and was like, OMG ARE YOU WATCHING NODAME?! and then we had this huge discussion about it. ok "huge" is exaggerating as we were having this discussion in chinese and as my chinese is stilted and conversational at best, we had some lost in translation moments. But I hope you enjoy it!! You can't help but love Nodame and Chiaki. They are irresistible.

@ ockoala

yes!!! for once my timing is going to be spot on. Luckily [or unluckily], my days don't allow for too much marathoning, so hopefully i won't push thru THnK and HnH1 too quickly. I'm halfway done with THnK and am stopping for the sole reason that i actually need to be up early in the morning and have a full day [of laying on the beach] planned.

@ kangel

aloe juice is really yummy. the kind i like has pulpy aloe and is a pretty sweet drink. i think they come in various blended flavors as well. i've had this pomegranate aloe drink before and it added a nice tartness to offset the sweetness. besides health food stores, i've also found more plain versions at the asian markets like Ranch 99 and HMart.

YesAsia. Although now that iTunes has started getting k-pop dropping at the same time as Korea, I'm a happy little listener. 8-)

@59 Buki -
If it be statistics you want, this I can do; personal experience in Korea, no can do.
Generally, Seoul in particular is pretty expensive. Income distribution-wise, however, Korea is about the same as Europe - off the top of my head, I think it's Gini index is about 30 and the 10% multiplier is probably about 8 - meaning that the top 10% of the earners make 8 times as much as the lowest 10%. Comparing across countries can be difficult because of data collection type stuff, but generally it's in line with EU countries. Statistically, you probably want the lastest UBS P&L guide - which compares the prices of a zillion different things around the world and the reasons for same - hmmm, got it on my drive for 2006, bet there is a more recent one.

As for Bad Guy, think of it this way - Jae In is feeding and housing her family on what is essentially a BA degree in art. I know many a MFA grad, who mostly do other stuff - one is an auto body mechanic and sculpture artist. To get a curator job? PhD stuff, basically. I know several guards at a museum who are BA art grads - darned fine artists as well. Hard as heck to get a good paying job in the arts on a BA.

Just a question on Bad Guy. Did anyone who watches Bad Guy in 720p notice a lapse in qualitiy concerning the filmwork?
Especially the sceens of Gun Wook and Tae Ra in episode 8 and 9 not as sharp - the lense doesn't seem as focused - as in the rest of the drama. Especially annoying were the scenes of Mo Ne, Gun Wook and Tae Ra eating, the makeout session in the rain and their kiss in the DIDIN Art Gallery. I wonder if those are extra scenes that were filmed hurriedly and added to accelerate the drama.

Love Armathendae
