I'm part of the Yummy faction because when seeing the others first interact with Kim Yoon Shik, he wasn't as gruff as Guh Ro and he wasn't as strict as Lee Sun Joon. Yummy was playful with his curiousity about Kim Yoon Shik. Even as the other characters evolved, Yummy's playful ways/personality stuck with me. I still hold out hope for Yummy and Kim Yoon Shik because I think that they would have been an interesting couple.

I would also like Cho Sun as a character. She's pretty but she also has some sass and intelligence about her. I wish we learned a little more about her backstory. I know that it was hinted at when she was with the Minister of War that one time. I wish she eventually ends up with Yummy or Kim Yoon Shik ( :\) for no other reason then I want to be paired with an awesome individual.

On another tangent, I was wondering if the music posted in the Scandal recaps are related to the drama. I've just been reading the recaps but if they are related, I'm tempted to download them.

It's October. I don't know what to wear for Halloween. I've been listening to Nightmare Revisted on repeat. I crave candy corn. I just got over a cold. I can't think of any other stereotype that I need to be existing in at this point.

What is everyone going to be for Halloween this year? Make it good so I can steal your idea.

The family is going as the Princess Bride Cast:

Hubby is Inigo Montoya
Son is Westley
2nd Daughter is Princess Buttercup
1st Daughter is waffling between Prince Humperdink or Vizzini
I'm getting the leftovers and going two-faced as Miracle Max and wife!! (I love doing warts!!)

As you wish.

Actually, that is one of my husband's favorite movies, and he was the one who announced we were going as Princess Bride this year.

We do a 'Fall Fest' on Halloween Night at the local fire department and run a booth for kiddos to stop by, play a game, and get a treat. This year we're doing frisbee golf and potato dunk.

You can, you can be a Rodent of Unusual Size! Come join us, we always have so much fun! The kids are so cute (or obnoxious, but that can be cute, too), and this year we're raising money for two good causes: the volunteer fire department and a new wing in the pre-natal unit at the hospital (many of our local families have had preemies in that unit over the last several years).

Anyway, I've printed off the lines that we all have to learn, but most of them are family standards, actually! (He's just mostly dead!)

So sad, our family quotes equal parts Steel Magnolias, Jane Austen (especially P&P), Princess Bride, William Shakespeare, and a whole lot of Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, French, and Russian, with a little German and Dutch in there, too. I wonder what people really think of us, but life is too short to really give a freckin' care!

So, Brookeve, Diadda, who are you going as, and is it just answering the door to hand out treaties, or parties, or fall fests?

I love Halloween fun!

I don't know what I'm going as! I want to steal someone else's idea, but I'm stuck. I don't want to pull off the 'Halloween Whore' look that so many of my friends do, so I was looking for another idea. Like, one year I went as Yoda (which was hard 'cause I'm tall and skinny), and I've gone as a hippie, a princess, an eagle (that was hard)... but I'm out of ideas this year.

My neighborhood really gets into decorating and handing out candy. I had three huge bags of candy last year, but I ran out half-way through. All of the parents sit on their front porch or hide behind paper decorations to scare the children. We literally have anywhere from 300-500 kids running around our neighborhood on Halloween. Parents like it because so many adults chaperon (and the Sheriff lives on our street), and kids like it because so many parents hand out candy.

Maybe I should just recycle my costume?

0

Ooh, Brookeve, tall and skinny... close to 6 feet, by any chance?

There's so many things you could go as. Did you know I'm also a costume designer and wardrobe mistress (newly retired!).

Let me put on my thinking cap.

Dark hair, red hair, blonde hair?

0

No, I'm a bit over five and a half feet. I'm an Indian (with the feather, not the dot), so that's my color palette... we don't vary a lot. I'm a light skinned red skin, but still I look good in turquoise and shell. :)

What's your ideas?

0

Brookeve, would you be terribly offended if I said Pocahantas? ;) If you are though, I am sorry! darned irreverence is very hard to stop!
Do you mind telling me what tribe you are from? I am currently taking a Native American Lit class, and it would be so cool to know if the things I am reading are about your tribe. We just finished House Made of Dawn and we are going to read Ceremony next.

About your Halloween costume, how about you dress up as an Indian from Southeast Asia? I bet you would rock the sari and all the bling! This way you could also use up your marigolds too, marigold garlands are very big in India. :)

0

I will not be in the US for Halloween. I rarely am. It is my schedule vacation time. This time I am off to Turkey to see some sights and sleep properly. I will be away from OT for two weeks starting next thursday. BUT I swear I will leave lots of videos and pervy stuff in my place.

I regret not doing a seoul trip like last year, but I wouldn't come back this time. I'm not ready to relocate. so I am postponing that trip for at least 2 more years.

0

Brookeeve, you have the same color range as me.

Costumes I have had in the past:

Harlequin.
Goth Girl
Baroness(GI Joe)
Mad Hatter
Cowgirl
Wonderwoman
Zombie Prep school student.

And I think all babies should now be dressed as pigrabbits for halloween.

0

@Viola- My birth dad is Lakota, My birth mom is Aztec/Mayan. My adopted parents raised me every summer in South Dakota (for various and a sundry reasons) so I know more about the Lakota side than any other... and they teach us that Pocahontas was a traitor... so not exactly going to dress up as her for Halloween. I would probably dress up as White Buffalo Woman or a Wakinyan before Pocahontas... but Wakinyan is really hard to make a costume for! Not offended though, 'cause that's a logical assumption that a lot of people make when they don't know Indians.

@Diadda- what do you do that makes you go all over the world? Can I do it too? Although, when you go to Seoul, you know that there are going to be weird girls coming to crash on your floor space, right? It'll be very hard to get rid of them. And I think that I might steal Zombie Prep School student for Halloween! How awesome! Thank you for your suggestions!!!!

0

What do I do to go all over the world?

I save my money from a small little job! Seriously that is all I do.

My one vacation a year I pick a spot. Sometimes it is random. Sometimes it has forethought. Sometimes with friends, sometimes alone, but always to have fun.

0

Okay, brookeeve, some coincidences are too wild -- I am part Crow (my mother is so gorgeous in her 60's, full head of black hair and amazing dark eyes), and while I got my other grandmother's German coloring, I have a son who got my mother's amazing eyes and a white blond daughter who got the bronze skin tone and tans incredibly!! My oldest brother looks like full-blooded, too, but we are only 1/16. Among the dozens of cousins that I have, many have one feature or another of our Crow heritage.

Any roads, wow, with that coloring and height ... I'd want to costume you as someone classic, like Lana Turner or Cyd Cherisse, Wonder Woman, a stalk of celery, a sheath of wheat, Elvira or Vampira, as any one of the Dark Elves, Lavinia or Persephone, Venus or Proserpina, Flora (goddess of flowers!!) or Vesta ....

I don't know how all out you go, but there's so much you could choose from!

0

@LW, if you don't quit talking people are going to find out we're actually the same person! LOL, it's great how we have so much in common! The Crow and the Lakota have always worked best when they worked together (ex. Battle of Little Big Horn). Your grandma has what we call "aging problems," the problem that lots of Indians have where they just don't age.

@Diadda- I am flexible and fit inside most luggage, just in case you want a portable friends to go with you to Seoul.

I love Halloween! I can't wait to dress up and give children cavities!!!!

0

omg too cute. I'd give you extra candy!

Oh no! I didn't need another excuse to fight! LOL! Remember when I said I was a 'hard to place' kid? I fought all the time, got suspended all the time, and I probably would have beat up any kid making fun of my little sister. I beat up kids making fun of my big brother, too, and they were years older than me. I am not big nor strong, but I'm wiley! Plus, I sucker punched kids all the time... which almost guarantees a positive ending to a fight.

In middle school? Aww he had a crush on you and was picking on you cause of it. Awww... Yeah decking the little immature brat was probably the best solution :P

Flames is going to be my fix for jawdropping dramatics this year and early 2011. The first four episodes were INSANE but it all makes sense if one spends a bit more time with these characters. We get to understand their motivations, as crazy as they are. The insanity is what I imagine Madam Shin (in Bad Guy) could've been if her character had been fleshed out and made three dimensional. Instead she was just utterly horrific. In Flames, it's apparent that we're going to get morally murky characters, no clear distinction between good and bad, etc. I'm up for the challenge of being put through the wringer.

I find myself laughing a lot, but it's a sad bitter kind, and it's my response to seeing the compromising decisions people are capable of making when confronted with extremes. I've decided to watch it as a black comedy and this attitude is helping my viewing to be more enjoyable. =)

Hello btw to Brookeeve! I just saw your posts in the last OT. Thank you!

I saw some of Madam Shin in Na-young too, especially with the crazy banshee shrieking. I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick it out for all 50 episodes, what with my 10g limit and all that, but I think it is quite a nice contrast from all the cute, idol fluff I've been following. And I agree - the "murky characters" are by far the most interesting ;).

Being a primitive with only DirectTV, I only just watched ep 12 of 'Gumiho' last night. I'm watching 'Giant', and 'Road #1' also, which pretty much takes up too much of my evenings , but I'm hooked on all of them.

We had TAN-TV for many years, until recently when they surrendered to DirectTV in the face of overwhelming competition. Now we have a DirectTV dish. There is a Korean TV package for Direct TV, but you need an odd, oblong dish with two separate LNBs to get it. Well worth the 26$ a month, with SBS, MBC, and a number of other channels. There is one channel called TAN, which I think is basically KBS. I rarely watched KBS shows before,anyway-seems like all the best dramas are on SBS.

I am such a skks addict. i mentioned earlier that i surf on the web/blogs to find any info. about this drama.
i read an interview with the skks author somewhere. (tranlated version) this drama contains three series. the first one is the one we all crazy about, skks, the second, where they all go to work for the king. third, they all went to china..ching's dynastsy. how cool is that? she said she "gave" moony a very beautiful wife later..and he's very "hot inside the blanket" (her word, not mine!!) she is thinking now how to write about the two families' children...(more love stories there??) oh, i can't wait!!

BAD MILk the blogger posted a translation, start with the
"old post" first so you don't get lost.

Actually, I stand corrected, what she did first was translated the 2nd book of volume !!, then latter part she translated the 1st book of Volume ! (I think, now I'm confused).

So in short start with her post that has a title
SCENE 1, 2, 3 (she has not finished 4 and 5). Then go the the older posts titled SCENE A, B,C, etc.

This has a lot of spoiler, so If you don't want any.......

Enjoy, she is one great blogger.

Like Key in red PJs. That was a group shot, so I barely noticed them until you pointed it out. and then I had to look for a bulge, something I REALLY wasn't looking for.

And differently from you, I got hooked on them bc of Replay. That has got to be the single best debut song by any idol group EVER. I am susceptible to great pop songs and it is truly one of my favorites now. =)

Apparently the client's wife happens to be a kdrama addict, and according to my cousin, his client got 'harassed' almost everyday by his wife via phone, just because she can't log in onto the computer to get her drama summary 'crack' online.

Somehow I suspiciously thought that she is a fellow Dramabeaner. LOL!

Am I too late to join the OT? I have been posting comments on the PK recaps, but have never posted on OT before. More of a lurker.

A short introduction: I have watched 20 KDramas since February 2008. Not a lot, but I really do love them. My husband used to get mad when he would see me watching a drama. Why would I watch such a thing?? Now, he doesn't say a word. :)

I feel a little out of place w/ my friends because I'm the only one that is hooked on Kdramas. I get excited about something I am watching, so I post on Facebook...no replies or even a 'like'. My best friend does tolerate me emaling stills or describing certain scenes, but other than that...I feel alone in this obsession of mine. Thank goodness for DB!

PK is my 21st drama. I have never re-watched a drama, but I definitely will be rewatching PK! This one is like a drug to me -- I catch myself daydreaming at work about KHJ and his smile (his muscles, his cool wardrobe, his gorgeous neck, his kisses, his perm...)

Is it bad that I am a 36-yr-old mother of 2 that is infatuated w/ KHJ? More than once, my 4-yr-old daughter has seen me reading PK recaps & shouts "he sings 'Love Like This'!" or "he is 'Gummy!'" when she sees a pic of him. Yep...I've got it bad. :)

Not sure what to watch after PK ends next week. It looks like others are enjoying SKKS. I will have to check it out.

Thanks for reading. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

I rarely rewatch any shows but this one I definitely will!

You are not alone my dear.

Love kdramas - check
No RL friends who watches asian dramas - check
PK addict - check
Infatuated w/KHJ - check
Hubby who doesn't understand about your need for kdramas - 1/2 check (my hubby actually likes the k actresses)

You are not alone. I'm really going to miss PK too. I'll be downloading this one and saving it on my hard drive. I do that for the ones that I love because I will rewatch when I have my "moments".

I'm 31 with a teenager... but after posting some things on my FB page I found out that I have three friends who are also KDrama addicts! But yeah, we are all kind of in the same boat here. We're pretty much a family who consoles each other and encourages each other in our addictions, while we fangirl over Javabeans and Girlfriday.

Glad you're not lurking anymore, 'cause we like knowing that we're not alone!!!!

Welcome, you are SO not alone ...

I've wondered, why isn't there a FB group for us? I'd be happy to friend anyone who wants to rant/ramble, or just have me understand and you understand why Kim Hyun Joong is sex on legs, especially in some of his concerts. I'd like one person outside of my daughters to understand why my Hot Men 1, Hot Men 2, Hot Men 3, and Hot Men 4 photo files on Facebook are mostly Asian men (and I rotate them, Bare Chested month was not too long ago, you missed a real treat when I was putting up our favorite abs new every day), and I'm soon going to do a kissable lips month (november? december? -- am I more thankful or do I want the best xmas gift ever?)

Back to Kim Hyun Joong (who I seriously do call Mr. Sex-ON-Legs). See, what I'm going to do when PK wraps is watch his concert DVDs over and over, where he's "on" like the hottest sun in the universe!! Then I'm going to have a month of him some time in 2011, as well as a month of Lee Jun Ki. Maybe, don't hold me to that.

By the way, I have two friends on FB who DO get it, at least in theory: one is a U.S. soldier who came across k-dramas and variety shows while stationed overseas and bored out of his mind (he's hilarious, irreverent, and rather naughty, but I love him!), and the other is actually a k-drama fan from Malaysia who always has Daniel Henney as her profile pic.

Howdy Neighbor! Houstonian...you?

Oh...i would friend you if I were on FB...but I'm not...and even if I were and we were friends, my hubby would kill me for whatever salacious comments I happen to make about your photos...because I'm sure I wouldn't be able to keep quiet for too long and I can drool and wax poetry about a hottie with the best of them.

Hubby knows I'm not that into six pack abs...he's gotta a mighty fine one (triathlete), but I'm a total sucker for pretty faces. That's generally how I choose what drama to watch...that and whatever DB is recapping. He's okay with it as long as I keep it to myself or post anonymously on DB, but to "out" myself on FB? Oooh...I dunno, that would be borrowing trouble.

Thank you for making me feel welcome! I feel so good after confessing about my KHJ crush and no one was like "wth?!?". :)

JustKat - curious how you save these videos to your hard drive?? I have a KDramas folder in my Favorites and then I have a subfolder for each drama I've watched (in order). Yeah, I really need to just make a list somewhere. There is a method to my madness. You see, I watch the drama & then go looking on YouTube for the music from the dramas. In each drama subfolder I have a link to the actual drama (mysoju, DramaFever & ViiKii) and the YouTube videos. I don't like spoilers, so that is why I wait until I am finished watching the drama. When nothing is on or I want to relive some moments, I can go to a certain drama & watch the videos.

Sherry - I may send you a message on FB. Would love getting to know others that "get it".

LW - We totally need a FB group! I have one folder of KHJ pics (mostly PK stills) and one folder that just has a few pics in it (Oh Ji Ho in a tux for example).

I also have other pics from Korea (lanterns, palaces, etc). My kids are adopted from South Korea and I have fallen in love with the country & culture. I tell my husband that after he passes away, I may just sell everything, pack up & move there. ;)

You can look me up by my email: leonardswench@yahoo.co.uk

And before anyone wonders, I opened a yahoo UK account so that I could buy out a UK website years ago.

Any roads, all takers, if you're a k-drama addict and want to chat and drool over piccies, I'm more than happy to be a part of that.

You'll have to excuse my gaming friends, family, and the writers' groups who may not understand why there's these other k-drama weirdos coming out of the closet! lol!

@Leonardswench
small world...never been that far east in Texas.
You gals seem like you'll be partying it up on FB.

@djrsb
I'm not sure how much I can divulge about since it is technically "illegal". I'll give a quick description. Just let me know if you are interested and I can send exact instructions.

I usually download the video and the softsubs from the group that is currently fansubbing and join the video and subs together in one folder.

There's also some websites that you can download the video with the subs already hardcoded.

I save all my faves onto an external harddrive (I have a 500GB one). I can plug and play on my laptop using the vlc player or I can hook it up to my bigscreen with this nifty little gadget my hubby bought for my viewing pleasure (who wouldn't want to see these hunks on a big screen?) Oh...actually, I think I can hook my laptop up to my flatscreen now and watch it that way too.

I haven't downloaded any PK yet because I've been watching it on viikii. It's so easy to be lazy with viikii subbing each episode in less then a day. Bless their hearts. But I plan downloading and saving a copy when the subbing team has all the softsubs available.

Just let me know if you want to go that drastic.

I want to take this time to complain.

Adult language ahead, so skip it if you're not ready to read potty words.

I friggin' hate that KBS is dickin' over Viikii. Viikii is so good at subbin' on a regular timetable that I can plan rituals around my KDrama addiction. Like, I can go grocery shopping (which I do about every other day) and say, I can hide this Pocky for approximately 36 hours from my family, and therefore can enjoy it while I am watching Runaway, OR I can hide my Bar-b-q potato chips in this drawer while I'm waiting for Sungkyunkwan to come out. When it isn't on a regular basis, I have to wait until someone's kind heart brings it out on their time table... not complaining that they're doing that, but that it is not predictable. Of course, when it comes out, one or the other of my boys have found my hidden stash and has eaten it. Then I have to go and rebuy my junk food, and during that time one or the other of my boys has hijacked my friggin' laptop, and by that time I have to wait until they watch JUST ONE MORE EPISODE of whatever they're watching...

I wish KBS would get over themselves and let Viikii do their job. It's causing me to about beat my family (the threat would be more effective if I wasn't the smallest person in my family, but you get the picture).

I have always and I mean always shipped for the main lead. No matter how gorgeous, handsome, thoughtful, wonderful the second lead is...... I have always shipped for the main lead....but now I am on a verge of tears and will be crying because I have caught the second lead syndrome......hmmmm......This show better give an awesome ending to Jaeshin....or I will be crying buckets.

And on a happy note hopefully everyone is having a wonderful weekend and have enjoyed this weeks PK. Which was such a joy to watch.

Ahh thundie, ockoala and serendipity. So wonderful these ladies. =) I really find everything they write just hilarious and insightful.

I have a kdrama routine that entails reading (and sometimes commenting) in this order of visitation:

dramabeans.com
thundie.wordpress.com
dangermousie.livejournal.com
yogurutu.blogspot.com
ockoala.wordpress.com
daheefanel.wordpress.com
evacuatewithstyle.org/blog
Then various twitter pages of kdrama actors/actresses and bloggers. Mr. X, I'm a fan. =)

And this list does not include the kpop related stuff. Oh dear. I mean, I guess I could use an RSS feed like google reader, but I had so much going on in my reader account... I just needed to break it down into a routine to read what I NEED, y'know? I can live without looking at the sartorialist, but I absolutely am addicted to kdramas.

It's been like this for years now =P. I truly appreciate the contributions of these bloggers to the kdrama watching community, and I am really impressed with their dedication and wonderful writing. Hehehe.

Anyhow, if anyone was unaware of some of those blogs, give them a try. They all have different ideas about what makes a drama a must see for them, and it's really interesting to see such various opinions on kdramas.

I used to madly lurk soompi, but that forum moves sooo fast to track for the likes of me.

On a completely unrelated note, I wish I was in Stockholm right now. It's my favorite city in the world. It's beautiful this time of year. My best friend is planning on being there next week, and I am very happy and jealous for her.

Someone compared Na Young to Madame Shin in Bad Guy. I totally disagree. NY in FoD is Kang In Wook without empathy and a smidgeon of conscience.

I think we have seen a Na Young before - we have just never seen the story from such a character's perspective, and with such depth of understanding, forcing us to be both entranced and repulsed by her.

FoD's rating's is shooting up, hit 18% yesterday. Another reason I am glad? If FoD hits the 30s before the end of the year awards, I no longer have the fear that MBC will give their Daesang to wide-eyed-one-look Han Hyo Joo in Dong Yi. Shin Eun Kyung will and deserves to get it.

Random thought, and I haven't been on OT in a while so this may have been mentioned, but...

I don't think ANYONE in Sungkyunkwan is particularly bright, academically-speaking. No one knows Moony is a midnight Zorro and that Yoon Shik is a girl.

Wouldn't surprise me if most of the students are late-starters and or got held back 1 year (or 5).

I really need to catch up on many dramas, sheesh, recapping makes me braindead and decreasing drama consumption by half.

Aishhhhhhhh, way to add another drama to my plate. As if I'm not watching 6 already (although for the first time in a long time, some of those are J-dramas). D:

@langdon

Haha, it's true that a lot of the other SKKS boys are ajusshis.. I know Jun Taesu (Insoo) is 26, and the guy who plays Byung-choon is in his 30s.. I think it's just because they're side characters and therefore the PD can get away with casting older actors. Besides, it's a little harder to tell age in period costumes, whereas a lot of them would look ridiculously out-of-place in the modern clothing of their character's age group.

On the subject of SKKS, I have a HUGE Ha In-soo bias. I'm so freaking in love with him, I'm not even gonna lie. I want him to end up happy and smiley and loved. I'm really hoping that Chosun will help bring about this change, since if anyone can do it, she can. :3

After the dreck that was PotW, I owe him a good K-drama. Giant is too long, FoD too makjang for his tastes (and rather needs some K-drama knowledge to really appreciate its subversive elements), I think JFX may just be to his taste.
