Oh, no, really? You are SO missing out. Ha Ji Won is The Hotness (not to be confused with Kim Ji Hoon, also The Hotness). She could do the OPW on me and get anything she wanted.
You must go watch WHIB tonight. Not having watched HJW in anything is a condition, like not having ever tasted real Italian gelato and then saying Dreyers ice-cream from your freezer is the best ice-cream in the world. I decree you must try the real deal.
HJW's face was actually a turn-off for me before I watched her act. After one drama of her, I am a fan for life.
I would actually tell you to go watch Damo for HJW goodness, but I want you to enjoy your week.
With everything else on my roster, for some reason I've had Damo on the brain lately. Maybe if I just watch the cave scene it'll hold me over until 2015 when my drama plate clears (maybe) for a complete rewatch. :-(
Okay then, we can all rest easily! Duelist has conquered!!
I may have to buy another copy, as momochan has now declared it her current favorite movie. I adore it. I've found there are only 2 camps on that movie - love and WTH! I am in the love column. Yeah Kang Dong Won didn't hurt.
I rewatched Damo a few months ago (remember the crying tweets), but the cave scene always makes me thisclose to jumping onto Team Rebel Leader FTW! Until the tent scene, that is.
Un, yeah, Kender is our lil' sis, right? I would never throw her into a pit of despair, WHIB was like a vacation in Bali. Really? I have no clue why you were texting me like a crazed banshee after watching it.
Tell your hippie dolphines to get back in that commune. Bora Must Die is a war they do not want to get in the middle of.
@momosan
Duelist didn't work for me - neither love nor hate. But then again, I watched wayyyy to many HK wuxia movies so my tastes are different that the K-audience.
I'm also firmly in the love column. It was one of my first K-movies, downloaded solely because I was in love with KDW (who is my husband. I figure he doesn't need to know about that until he gets out of the army, but I'm totally already planning our wedding. <3).
I should probably go watch WHIB, though, since I really don't remember HJW all that well in Duelist. I was so entranced by KDW's silent pretty. *_*
Yep. My first real-world text to you, you were in Boston (in a meeting, LOL) and I texted you from the bridge I was about to jump off of after finishing WHIB. Thankfully you talked me down.
@ockoala -
once I heard the "If I don't come back on my own two feet, don't come looking for me" line, it's very hard to be anything but Team Naeuri. ::excuse me while I go sob in my pillow for a sec....::
BTW, I love that when he's asked what his favorite role is Lee Seo Jin does do the usual "the current one" or "they all have something" but goes straight to Damo.
Wait, what?? Am I gonna want to jump off a bridge after watching WHIB? D: I guess I should be glad there aren't many bridges near me, although there are some trains..
Also, you guys make me feel like a drama-watching rookie. I've also never seen GS, although I do love me some PIE. ._.
@kender ohhh, best PIE for the buck, I think, is What's Up Fox. Because he's just so darned cute.
GS is a good watch, particularly for a group watch because you can sit back and analyze. PIE is adorbs, but I wanted to smack the female lead whose name I have expunged from my memory. I even wanted to smack KNG a little - if I could have inserted BG's KNG into that role, I'd have been in heaven, but he did not quite have have the skillz at that point.
(and don't get me started on Bad Guy - it's still too painful....)
I am now and forever will be Team Rebel Leader. And of course Lee Seo Jin would say Damo. I bet every actor who's ever been opposite HJW would say that was his favorite role. I know JGS did, didn't he?
OMGeeee, that was one of the most AMAZING lines in any drama. *sobs, Nauri-ahhhhh* And Lee Seo Jin has never done anything other than as our beautiful Hwangbo Yoon that I have even remotely liked. His role in Lovers was so WTF-moronic.
@unni
JGS said his fave role was in Hwang Jini? I thought he just giggled a lot when asked about it, and blush a pretty peach and looked like a boy who got his cherry popped by a goddess?
JB's all about Kang Ji-hwan.. I don't think anyone has dibs on KDW except me. Not that it matters, because I'd fight them all to the death for him anyway. ^^
You sure know how to get a girl's attention! "Foreplay swordplay" just got Duelist bumped up a few notches on the ol' drama schedule. :-D
Have to say I'm underwhelmed with Dr. Champ, anyone else? Admittedly the only eps I've watched are the ones I've edited, but it's not grabbing me. Fugitive is making me cackle, though.
The OT sisters were wonderful with WHIB for me. They refused to say anything about the ending, except that they would be here for me. (And, yeah, at the end I screamed and wrote long ranting posts)
And I tell you, WHAT A RIDE!!! So, don't let anyone spoil it for you. No chatting, no sneaking looks at reviews, nothing. Just jump into it. You won't regret it! 20 hours of glorious mind-fuck!
@ langdon813 - heck the "sword foreplay" line is almost a real line from the end of the movie. Really.
I've watched ep 1 of both. Fugitive made me sit back, munch popcorn and giggle. Dr. Champ made me throw things at UTW - hard to believe, I know - but it was a Johns Hopkins reflex thing. If only UTW was really a doc at Hopkins ::drifts off in thought for a sec::
No I feel a WHIB re-watch coming from all this talk. I've seen it three full times now. And each time I love it just as much as the time before. And pick up more nuances.
Kender sweetie, you totally need to watch!~
And no, no toad-in-pants Rain for me, so not gonna watch Runaway. I'm still on a Rain high from Sang Doo.
@ockoala
Yeah, it's a tough decision - wait for marathon w/greenhatkoala or start watching now. Of course, I'm on the enabling boat - Watch it now!!! :D
I rarely rewatch dramas with subs, but JXF (a.k.a. Joseon Smack) is definitely one I've been rewatching. There's just so much packed into each ep, especially 6 and on, that they needs to be rewatched a few times, if possible. I wanted to rewatch it with Mr. hjkomo, too, but he's been so busy that he hasn't even finished Comrades.
As for drama of the year, JXF and Comrades are apples and oranges. One's all heart and one's all art. Both are FRAKKING AWESOMESAUCE.
But...I'm currently leaning towards the smack. ;)
@Kender
Watch more HJW, and you won't be able to look at JTS without thinking of his sister.
@momosan
I'm with ockoala. Didn't lurve nor dislike Duelist. Enjoyed it immensely for the directing.

@ockoala
Just start your JXF watch with hubs now. X's subs'll be better than any dvds anyways.
Oh, and word of advice for all addicted to the smack:
DO NOT WATCH EP.9 IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHILE EATING GALBI!
Need I say more? :P
My dvr's full again, so as I'm trying to finish Emperor Wang Geon, I barely recognized Kim Myung Soo...until I heard his voice. Oh, that voice... :excuse me while I go swoon: ;)
Then, while hub's folding laundry, he looks up and says - "Hey! Those are all the same guys from that other drama [Comrades]." Buahahahahahaha :lol:
Well, clearly Duelist feeds right into my hot fighting guy in black issues. 8-) So, no surprise there, but I love that movie.
My Korean isn't good enough for JXF without subs. So I watch it raw because I'm addicted and with subs later because I just HAVE to know. I still want to know who the heck the girl in the pink hanbok was! It's still freaking me out.
I swear, I think the girl in pink was the daughter of the traitor guy. She looks like the girl in the flashback, right? But if that's true, then who was the girl in red? It's all so confusing~~~
I love JXF. Such a mindfuck. And I really think the only reason I can get through that show without freaking out (I'm super jumpy ><;) is because I can focus on KJH's beauty. Those lips, so lovely..
KJH's lips? Lips, eyes, crooked gaht (hat)...it's all good. Mmm...
But what about Kim Gap Soo? With the pipe... *swoon*
And now Kim Eung Soo has shown up, and Jo Seong Ha was in one ep. Seriously, there is no shortage of great cameos. Kim Heung Dong is awesome!!!
Is anyone else watching Gloria? Besides SKKS, Glorious is making me squee an awful lot lately. Kang Seok and Jin Jin are just too cute!
NO spoilers. No girl in pink or girl in red, right? And I normally don't get scared but I will take your warnings to heart.
If JFX turns out be the majority vote for best of year, I may skip Comrades without guilt. Just seeing the cover makes me all sad and weepy already.
So Dr. Champ not worth checking out? I'm a little burned by that time slot actually.
It's a slew of interesting dramas that turned out to take a nose-dive in the second half, into the pit of crap.
Let's see: WUAS, Coffee House, IAL. I only saw 2 eps of Coffee House, but from the rage at soompi and here I shall stay far far away. I guess Oh My Lady wasn't bad? Cabana Boy wasn't enough to tempt me into that bed.
Haha, I'm probably the only one here who doesn't find KGS attractive. I love him, yeah, but more along the lines of a father-figure or awesome uncle. XD; Guess that shows my youth..
Gloria's totally been on my list since it started, but I hadn't heard anything about it from other people so I didn't start it. Is it worth catching up on? (So much stuff to catch up on..)
OML wasn't bad at all, but it wasn't great by any means. But if my life then had been as crazed as it is now, I probably would have dropped it. Although Siwon did a great job, I thought.
Hahaha, we totally swtiched places on Gloria! I was watching it from the getgo, and then stopped at episode 12, was getting bored and annoyed.
Sounds like I should resume?
Kender, Gloria is not bad, but it's not great either. I can't quite put my finger on it - it feels like it's taking way too long to establish its identity and presence. I enjoyed what I saw, but it didn't make an impression.
Oddly enough, SKKS got me in the mood for a Dr Who/Torchwood rewatch. It was Yummy being all Jack Harkness that made me hungry for the Dr - 9, 10 and Jack as well. Made me sad that 9 only got one season.
@ockoala - Oh My Lady provided light and fluffy for me when I needed it. Completely brainless but better than what else was out there for that. You can add Personal Taste to you list of ones that tanked.
I swear if SKKS ep 15 hits unicorns and rainbows, it will be a first all year for me. JXF is not unicorns and rainbows - it's Jack Daniels and country music - a whole other thing altogether.
IAL -- Oh, how I weep. Remember how when it started we were like "wow, this is surprisingly good." And then it was "Wow, rat-bastard husband is SO HOT." And then it was, like, whatever. I think I watched till ep9. Or maybe 8. Or something. Anyway. So don't care. What a train-smash. *sigh*
OML was cute, but unexceptional. In fact, I've already forgotten most of it. o.O WUAS was fun for a large part of it, until the crazy started intruding on the family+KJH. Coffee House I actually enjoyed, although I don't know if I would've continued it if I hadn't been marathoning it.. It was never really something I'd have remembered to download from week to week, although Kang Ji-hwan was loads of fun to watch.
And it sounds like I'll be skipping Gloria, then.. I don't want to waste a bazillion hours of my life on something that may only be cute. ><
@hjkomo
The girl in red that totally wanted KJH. (You know she did. She wanted him bad~)
NONONONONO, don't skip Comrades!!! :(
Like I said, apples and oranges.
Come on, the first drama that the Mr. watched, liked, and wanted to watch more of - that's a feat!
And I know he'll like JXF because he loves The X-Files. We've got the entire dvd set.
@Kender
I wanted KGS from Cinderella Sister to be my dad, too.
But when he's hot...he's HOT! :P
Don't talk about IAL, please, I beg of you. Normally I wouldn't care, except Rat Bastard made me care TOO much. The writer should be flayed, and then made to watch Winter Sonata and Stairway to Heaven on repeat mode.
@momosan
Pssst, Personal Taste just might me my vote for most disappointing drama of the year. Bad Guy at least elicit a emotion from me, albeit the urge to hack. But I didn't watch CU, so who am I to say.
Watching mookie watch CU was a joy in and of itself. She is adorable with her PIE spazzing.
Yeah, BORA lives in Lapland! You know what that means, right? She's dead and frozen in ice! Mwahahahaha, you opened that door, unni. Hope you fave duo doesn't get eliminated today, as consolation for acknowledging Bora is, like, dead and all.
Ohhh...Jo An! 'Tis still a mystery, but JXF does not fail to tie in the tiniest details into the greater story. I don't know if she'll appear again in another ep, but I don't think her story is that relevant if she doesn't.
@ockoala
Glorious was getting a bit slow right about where you stopped watching, but it picked up after that. At first, it was the Dong Ah-Yoon Seo couple that kept me watching, but then it switched to Kang Seok-Jin Jin. Seriously, it is so much fun watching Jin Jin's effects on Kang Seok. :D
It's not spectacular or exceptionally well-written/acted, but it fills my romance quota more than any other show at the moment. And I like that this drama is more about these young people and not the standard weekend family drama. I get enough headache of that sort from the dailies.
Oh, speaking of tanking, I owe Ender's Girrl a bottle of really good sake for finishing TnK and reviewing it. The urge to hack doesn't even describe how I felt after 2 episodes, and she went the distance.
Kimutaku in Space better be good, or at least mockable or I may never recover.
Did you watch today's LIB ep! Ah kawaii!!! So sweet I almost needed insulin. 8-)
I'm still wondering how it took 50 episodes before people got their knickers in a twist over it. I mean, seriously, if you are going to get upset, why wait until the run is almost over before going bonko. The stupid factor cannot be underestimated, I think.

Yeah, I'm a little freaked out by the pink hanbok girl, too...
@hjkomo
Just set my DVR up for Luther. And as I did, I counted 8 (yes, *8*) unwatched Rubicon eps.
Good grief. :-(

@ JXF smackers

My dvr's already set for Luther, but I'll have to rely on On Demand for Rubicon. Had to let the eps go because it was too full. :(
@momosan
What girl in pink? Choi Ah Jin (Kkeut Soon from Assorted Gems)?
@Kender
Which girl in red?
Total mindfuck. :P

@hjkomo

@Kender

@momosan

I miss shaggy-haired Binnie.

Ohhh...Jo An! 'Tis still a mystery, but JXF does not fail to tie in the tiniest details into the greater story. I don't know if she'll appear again in another ep, but I don't think her story is that relevant if she doesn't.
@ockoala

WHAT!?! EG's Tsuki no Koibito review is out? I've been waiting since she dropped the hint she finished watching it.

KimuTaku in space will be so awesome we'll never want KT anywhere else but in space. Definitely nowhere in the same planet as Lin Chi-ling for sure.
