Hmmm...

Yoona has always seemed a *tad* overrated to me...and the worst thing is, I don't actually know why...? Apart from the "natural beauty" reason, I've witnessed how she can be witty in variety shows, but singing/dancing/acting...no. She's literally the "face" of SNSD as far as I'm aware.

Regarding her beauty - I agree that from some angles (and a little touch of makeup), she can look pretty, but most of the time, not really. (I used to think she looked like a horse). Basically, I'm not going to want to watch her episode after episode for a whole series, should I only be concerned with looks per se.

Her acting is generally weak-ish to mediocre. She has her moments when I do find it believable, but for now, I just don't think she's suited for such a lead role. JGS is going to own her, if she doesn't step up her game.

HHJ on the other hand, has some great experience, and I find her screen presence to be definitely much more intense and believable. She can tend to come off the same way whenever she portrays highly emotional scenes (e.g. crying), however, I wouldn't mind that over watching a supposedly pretty blank wall.

Awards received tend to be based on popularity, and given the SONES fanbase, it's not surprising that Yoona wins those. IDK. I've already tried giving Yoona a chance but I don't think I'm willing to anymore. It's just so empty watching her act. I guess it's a love-her-or-hate-her thing? I don't mind standing corrected if she can bring it, but it looks bleak.

I watched You're My Destiny and I ALWAYS skipped her parts unless Ji Hoon was in the shot, otherwise whenever she was crying( almost every episode) or the scene was mostly her I was very booored. I tried to watch Cinderella Man because I love Song Chang Ui and she bored my socks off and I never got past the first episode... I'm not trying to be mean, because I do like her, she's pretty funny in a quirky, I know I'm cute kind of way on variety shows, but in dramas- she's not quite there yet..

Totally OT, but it's so cute seeing the love for Jung So Min all throughout this post. She's an amazing actress and I really want to see her in something else!

Ugh, boooooo. But I am open to her changing my mind.

Firstly, shock horror, but I find Yoona is a better actress than Han Hyo-joo. Oh yeah, she was terrible in Cinderella's Man, but then that show was terrible, period.

I actually like the premise of the show but I'm not too trusting of the PD, it all sounds a little wet, drippy. So does the cast... Haha!
But Yoona is still a better choice than Han Hyo-joo who is the epitome of bland, I say.
I liked her overall performance in what I did watch of YAMD during my OMG-must-watch-Jung-Aeri-everything-phase.

Am just here to say that Jung So Min would've kicked ass in this drama had she been casted.

Some other *legit* young actress would've done, too.

Han hyo Joo, okay.

But noooooo...

of all the people...SNSD?? Gawdd what is this world coming to.

I really wasn't expecting this. Mmm. I do think she has potential in her acting, she does have a youthful appeal that seems to fit the role well. And she's no stranger to melodramas. I agree that Jung So Min would've been great in this - but the PD was obviously looking for a big name, and he got one. I'm not actually that worried about Yoona's acting, I'm more skeptical about the chemistry she should (and hopefully will have?) with JGS. If this is a love story that spans generations, it has to be epic. He's a charismatic actor and she's really going to need to step it up otherwise he will outshine her. Although this is going to be a big step for Yoona, JGS is also going to have to stretch himself - he's played musicians for the majority of his last few drama projects, glad to see he's doing something different. Anyway, I hope for the best. PDs in the past must have seen the same potential that the Love Rain PD does, otherwise she wouldn't have been cast in YAMD or Cinderella Man. She did those shows before SNSD became famous, she was not cast based on her popularity.

with mary, marry me, there was so much excitement and expectations ( positive ones!), that there was nowhere to go except down!

with this love rain, there's so much disapptment and low low expectations that there is nowhere to go but up!!

i love jks, and i really hope things work out for him after M3.

btw, no news abt him cutting his hair. will playing an artist and a photographer allow him to keep his long hair???

ok , now I was sooooooooooooo looking forward this drama ( not because of JGS , but because of winter sonata director Yoon Suk-ho ) but it seems am gonna drop it now , soooooooooooo sad.............

As much as I want to see Kpop idols act in dramas, THIS drama is just not one to have kpop idol as lead!!!

I was shocked when I saw the news in allkpop.com and waited for it to appear in dramabeans so I could confirm it's true. (and to post my comment here to avoid SNSD fans killing me over at allkpop. Hehe)

Love Rain needs to have a leading lady that can project all kinds of emotions for it to appear as real as it can be and Yoona is just not that lead. PD Yoon should have chosen with Han Hyo Joo, the character description fits her perfectly and SHE IS a very good ACTRESS.

Now I'm thinking a Yoon-ah and Jang Geun Seuk tandem is just overkill for fan service. =(

OK. I was very excited when i read about the drama Love Rain, because of the two actors; Han Hyo-joo & Jang Geun-seok. But, now that i've known this, totally disappointing. Really? I've never watch any dramas that Yuna was involved but knowing that she's in a girl group maybe she should just stick to singing and dancing. I don't hate her, I just don't like her to be pair with JGS, I mean, just look at them no chemistry at all, no offense just giving my opinion.

I was actually checking my calendar to see if today is April 1st, so I coukd hope that this news is just another prank.

I don't hate YoonA, but the girl just can't act. JGS really needs to work hard to cover for her.

I don't like the idea of Yoona as the leading lady.
Yes, she's popular and an idol.
But then, in term of acting, the production house should know this thing better. Why don't they stick to choose an ACTRESS rather than IDOL turned to actress.
It's not that they usually have both gifts. *singing and acting*

In terms of the plot I feel like the PD is following a template that worked for him somewhat 10 years ago, but how can he assume the same template would work in todays climate with drama tastes evolving with every stella, well written drama that has come after it?

but i guess i cant judge before the drama airs...but it sounds so tedious...a love across two generations??....how could anyone see that on paper and not groan????!

Compared to KHJ, Yoona's casting isnt too bad, she has some experience under her belt...but I so hope this isnt a move by SM to improve yoonas acting for hana kimi casting....cos if she was cast in that ...i dnt know what I'll do

I was looking forward to seeing HHJ act along side JGS :(. I realise she may not be the BEST actress but I find her insanely likable.
Yoon-ah, well... i generally am a little sceptical when in comes to idols breaking into the acting scene. Not saying it can't be done though.
I still think there are other actresses out there that would fit the description as well as be decent at acting.

This sucks! I hate that this show is being held back by the lack of acting experience of the leading lady. It's hard for me to like most leading lady characters when they are bomb actresses; (that's my issue because most times I do not understand why leading ladies make the choices they make in a show and it eats me up inside) but put a sub par actress (or a pop princess trying to be an actress) in these roles and you are asking me to not like the show. I love JGS so I will take a peek; but I make no promises.

this negative vibes just gives me a feeling that yoona will work her ass off and these people saying negative things will eat their words... sometimes it good to have these negative people around... hahah

there are A LOT of better actresses than yoona BUT.. it was the director and producers' choice... maybe they saw something in her that needs to be honed more and this drama is one way for her to improve!.. and the marketing value of both actors are high... if i were the producer i would want my money to be doubled or maybe tripled...

I don't care about who's pretty who's not. I just want a professional actress next to Jang Geun Seok. Mary Stayed Out All Night was disappointing so I was waiting for this. I'm really sad right now. I can't believe that the director PD Yoon suddenly changed his mind and picked this actress-singer Yoona in this incoming drama with my Jang Geun Seok because of her pure beauty - how interesting.

I hope Jang Geun Seok will be fine and along their good chemistry with Yoona - WITHOUT being awkward, hopefully so! Oooo, I read some of everybody's comments about their negative opinion of Yoona, oh aigoo. I am sure that Jang Geun Seok and Yoona will be working so hard for this drama will be definitely successful -- we will see what happens!

the choice of leads is often determined for commercial reasons and in this case, it's quite evidently so. The pd of the show knows best is not a given. These days it's the viewers who determine the fate of any drama. Not the pd or the actors/actresses. No matter how pretty, how popular, how " good" the acting, how talented or how many awards, it's viewers like us who determine if a show is a success or a flop. So chill.

Ok now I'm definitely watching. I'm a fan of SNSD and a fan of JGS's acting. If I could stand Yonghwa or Taecyeon as a lead and still very much enjoy the story, then I think as long as the writing is good, this should be ok. I'll give it a few episodes at least. I think people are overreacting a bit, but then again this was my same reaction to Yonghwa getting Heartstrings so I can't blame anyone.

I really really really LOVE Yoona... the idol. But I don't think she is an actor. I really think she needs more practise, with both singing and acting unfortunately. And how will she have time for everything? SNSD is making a comeback soon too, right? AAAhhh I don't want her to get too tired

I'm sorry but Yoona was just baddddd in YMD. I couldn't even watch an episode because she was just awkward on screen and it's such a pity coz I actually like Park Jae Jung.

PD should have stuck with Han. She's definitely a better match for Jang and a better actress all around. Yoona does modelling better in my opinion.
