Me Too, Flower! loses leading man three weeks from premiere

Yiiiiikes. MBC’s upcoming romantic comedy Me Too, Flower! was already in crunch time to make its premiere, and now it’s lost its hero, Kim Jae-won, due to injury.

Kim was involved in a filming accident on October 4, during a shoot behind Seoul’s Samsung-dong Ramada Hotel that involved him riding a motorcycle. The accident dislocated Kim’s shoulder and he was rushed to the emergency room.

Kim had taken a wait-and-see approach after being treated, but his doctor warned that he wouldn’t be able to use his shoulder for four weeks, and suggested possible surgery. Ergo withdrawal.

This means that producers are now hurriedly looking for a replacement. The problem (other than the obvious issue of needing a new hero) is that Me Too, Flower! was already short on time as it was — in fact, it only began filming three days ago, less than a month out from its scheduled premiere. Not ideal even in a live-shoot system, which likes a little more time between the initial shoot and the broadcast premiere.

The drama is slated to air following Can’t Lose, and in fact Flower’s situation is likely the main reason for that drama’s extension, albeit in an unofficial capacity; Flower’s producers denied that was the reason, but there’s really no other explanation for that extension. Can’t Lose certainly didn’t have the ratings or the fanbase to support it.

Eeeep! They’re going to have to really hustle now. The drama stars Lee Jia as a policewoman who falls for an “undercover boss” (Kim’s former role), who’s a chaebol masquerading as a parking attendant. Han Go-eun plays the hero’s sophisticated CEO supporter, and Seo Hyo-rim his other love interest (who happens to also be the heroine’s stepsister). Let’s hope they can get their act together quickly, because it sounded like a cute premise.

i actually kinda like the premise of the story. but man... she's not someone i can watch. not even the combined greatness of jang geun suk and kim myung min can make me watch beethoven virus. i just cant keep forwarding scenes just so i wont see her atrocious acting.

It was pretty painful, although she became a non-entity towards the end. Thankfully, it became all about JGS & KMM. Had she played a bigger role, it would have been unbearable.

Same here! I was all smiles when I found out I wouldn't have to see him with her until of course I read the reason why he's dropping out. Hope he recovers quickly! It sounds like a pretty serious injury..

But I still think I'll watch the drama because of the premise (who knows...maybe she's learned a thing or two by now?..I can hope, can't I?)

That's intense. But things almost always manage to come together in K-drama land.

The big worry now is that Kim Jae-won's shoulder may continue to plague him and prevent him from being able to choose tougher physical roles. But, maybe he'll be lucky like Lee Min-ho and his leg!

He's older than LMH was when the latter was injured, so I think it's reasonable to think he will need to be far more attentive to his recovery. Hopefully, marvels of modern medicine will be able to help him be well.

it sucks for Kim Jae Won D:

and i'm already feeling sorry for this cast and future lead actor, with a normal situation the live-shoot system makes the actors go on IV drips, can you imagine how this drama it's going to turn out? yikes.

WOW! To make this easier, why not just cancel the drama? Obviously no one wants to take the leading role... Is the plot summary good anyways? Hopefully they find a leading man, otherwise just cancel the drama.

I think Jae Hee is too good of an actor for this role. Maybe I'm type-casting him? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Jae Hee's acting, but I can't really see him in a comedy type role.

What about Cha Seung Won? or Lee Seung Gi? Or Jung Il Woo? or Ji Sung? Someone who is good with comedy.

That drama is one of the few I watch repeatedly and still lose sleep over "How will it all end?" and still laugh my butt off. That and his movie made me love him to bits.

But both of them have a killer smile.

Best to both on their injuries. And hoping for no IV drips.

i super love jaehee too! and i watched his dramas, not just DGCH, but all of his drama over and over again. i would love to see him in a drama again. but not with lee jia, i apologize to her fans but she just doesn't know how to act. hiding her marriage was the best act she has ever done so far. other than that, nothing.

Oh no! I was actually really excited for this drama. I wanted to see KJW in a rom-com again just to see if he's improved. I always thought that he's more suited towards romcoms. A real shame for him because this drama looks to be really trendy. From the people who came up with MNIKSS and What's Up Fox? This would have totally boosted his career. Let's just hope for a speedy recovery!

On another note, the only other person that popped into my head that could probably take this role was Jae Hee (is he recovered from his injuries?). If I'm to lose one oppa, I would love to have another favorite oppa to take his place.

it's too bad.. for both the actor and the producer, oooh and also for Hyung-woo and Eun-jae who had already extended their drama.... Do they have to double the extension episodes for about 4 weeks = 8 more episodes to go?

dunno how they're going to solve it... maybe every actor/actress should have a surrogate.. to anticipate if they get any accident that ruins their movie filming. haissssshhh...

I like the fact that KJW is coming back with another drama but when I read that he already had problems with his shoulder and with the recent injury to his shoulder, I am glad for this news. His health is much more important than this drama. With the rest and perhaps potential surgery, he will be able to come back much healthier in another drama, in another time and place.

KJW, rest well and eat lots of delicious food so that you can get better soon.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Not glad he got hurt but very happy he dropped the drama. No way in heck it would have done will with "female lead" Lee Jia. She can barely act but she obviously has very good connections to keep making "comebacks" after each scandal!

Speedy recovery for KJW! Love him to bits and pieces in CYHMH.

Sorry to hear that.. Hope you get well soon, Kim Jae-Won!

I'm just thinking.. if the prod really wants him to be the lead, then they ought to wait him until he is well and shoot this drama later, making this drama as pre-prod for the next airing.. And, I dunno.. how about replacing Me Too, Flower with the another pre-prod drama, and the only one that i know would be - What's Up.

Or, if they want to replace the actor, i'm suggesting Shin Dong-Wook (i hope he is recovered now), or Lee Dong Wook, or Gong Yoo or Lee Min-Ki.. hehe. one only can hope! ;D

Okay, here's the latest I read. Apparently MBC is backtracking on everything they said! Originally, it was mutual partings of a the way when KJW got hurt. That was on the 6th or 7th with KJW's people confirming he's dropping out. Now, I'm sure after an exhaustive search and no back up lead to replace him, MBC is saying that they have no intention of replacing him and its up to him to stay or go but "his health is the most important". REALLY?? If his health was the most important, then don't put him in the predicament of having to return because NO ONE will act opposite the female lead or be involved in this hot mess! Including the PD who was not happy at the script reading about his female lead's "lack of strength". This production is dead in the water! It's less then three weeks away! NONE OF THE GOOD/HOT ACTORS (i.e. Gong Yoo, So Ji Sub, Lee Dong Wook, etc.) will touch this project with a ten foot pole so please stop suggesting it! It's laughable and annoying when people suggest that. Just replace it with a pre-production and call it a day!

Sorry for the long rant. I'm just upset that any production company who will try to force an actor/actress to return to production when they are hurt is scummier then scum. That's way too messed up! I feel really bad for KJW. He's going to have to return and work his ass off for something that will undoubtedly suck. He's got a solid fan base and she's barely got one. Every single forum, rather Chinese, Korean or English fans do not like her! For those that do support her, you're in the minority. Ratings will not be good. Arghhhhh! I'm so upset I can spit nails!

P.S. Can someone please remind these production companies that it's NOT a contest to see who gets the most IVs or has the most collapses or car accidents during production for a project to garner support. These actors and actresses are human! As much as I love Kdramas, the treatment of the actors/actresses are beyond deplorable!
