Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #3

girlfriday: Week three of the blazin’ birthday giveaway extravaganza extraordinaire!

javabeans: You know what that means: More presents! Man, what a spoiled 5-year-old Dramabeans is.

girlfriday: Right? If DB were a kid, we’d have one needy brat on our hands.

javabeans: Then again, most 5-year-olds receive presents, and DB’s giving ‘em out. Although I don’t know who gave that kid my credit card info.

girlfriday: Is that what’s going on? That explains a lot. This time we’re giving away a brand new iPod nano, but that’s not the best part. It’s chock full o’ goodies! It’s got a Javabeans Playlist on it, which I’m gonna venture to say is worth more than the player itself.

javabeans: We’ve also got a few more premium memberships to give out to Dramafever, in case you want to get friends/siblings/parents addicted to your drama poison of choice. Because as we know, drama addictions are best shared, not cured.

girlfriday: Yeah, rehab’s for quitters, and we’re no quitters!

javabeans: So get crackin’! By which we mean, please post up lots of nice thoughts for our many many guest posters over the years.

girlfriday: They know how much we appreciate them, but as we know from personal experience, sometimes the warmest thanks comes straight from you guys, so please be generous with the love!

And the winners of Giveaway #2 are…

  • Bethany, winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • PrincessSerenity81, winner of a one-year drama membership to Crunchyroll,
  • and Bluefyre, winner of one $100 gift certificate to Yesasia.

Congratulations! We’ll be contacting you shortly via email. On to the next one!

Giveaway #3

Question: Actually it’s not a question this time, but a prompt: Thank a guest blogger, any guest blogger. That can mean any of our current contributors (i.e., gummimochi, kaedejun, HeadsNo2) or anybody who’s ever written a guest post on Dramabeans in the past. (*Don’t forget to use a valid email address, and please indicate at the bottom of your comment if you are NOT a resident of US/Canada.)

Prizes:

  • 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • another 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • an iPod nano (maybe with some stuff on it, wink-wink).

DramaFever offers free legally-licensed dramas and movies with high-quality English subtitles. With a premium membership you can watch unlimited, commercial-free, and enjoy extra content as well as unlimited mobile device access and high-definition. Check out recently added titles here.

Winners announced: Sunday, January 22, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

First, I would like to say Thank You for HeadsNo2. I first know you through your Tree with Deep Roots recaps. That drama is one of a kind sageuk drama with its witty script, so I gues that's makes you a wonderful and lucky recapper.
At first I'm anticipating Tree with Deep Roots only for Song Joong Ki, but then I check on dramabeans and they pick it up to recap. And you're the one who write the recap, I don't know you, but I read your writing and your writing really hooked me. Great to know you!

Second, My Thank you goes to gummimochi who kindly assisting javabeans recapping my favorite sitcom High Kick 3. I like your recap on Running Man too but because I'm not watching it so sometimes it makes me confused. But still
I always drop by to read your recaps.

Third, I'd like to say thank you to kaedejun. I know your a long time resident here, I first read your recap on Prosecutor Princess. I'm glad you're also recapping What's Up, I'm just so desperate I thought no one gonna pick it up, but thank God you did!

And last but not least, Dahee_fanel I love you so much..!! <3 <3
I'm so in love with your writing, you captivate me with your harsh and/or cynical commentary. Although you mock my favorite dramas or actors, I still crave your posts. Why is that? It's so weird. Well, maybe those words is your magic.
Please write again on dramabeans....!

P.S.

P.S.S
Can't I say Thank you to javabeans and girlfriday too? I hope you don't mind.
I'm truly glad I stumbled on your blog, reading your writings, thoughts, comments, become a part of this community you built, it means a LOT to me..
When having a bad day, I check on your blog, read your conversations thus make my day better. Like someone once say, you're both like butter and bread. But because I'm an Asian, you're like water and rice (you can't cook rice without
water, right?), inseparable. And I eat you everyday! three times a day, seven days a week. I love my rice, I love my dramabeans, I love javabeans and girlfriday.

*It's cheesy I Know, But I don't care!
Love you guys!! muach muach <3 <3 <3

Thank you kaedejun for your in-depth coverage of dramas from duds like the Musical to fluffy rom-coms like You've Fallen for me. It's been a blast to read your take on episodes and here's hoping that it continues into the new year. Thanks for your hard work.

Special thanks to kaedejun for her What's Up recaps. The recaps and the comments are always a blast to read.

Also, thanks for samsooki for the KSS recaps. To think you're a guy, a lawyer, and not a Korean (?) still astounds me. Your PCB on KSS ep 6 was a nice touch.

I want to thank Kaedejun and Dahee Fanel for the year in review of 2011! I took a real pleasure reading you. Thanks for sharing your opinions and thoughts. When I read some of your reviews I was like “What? Are we talking about the same drama???” “What’s going through their minds?” “Where they drunk when they started the review?” LOL. And thanks to HeadsNo2 for ‘History of the Salaryman’s recaps. I wasn’t sure about that one but thanks to you I’ll definitely watch it!

Thanks so much to the three new members of the DB family - kaedejun, gummimochi, and headsno2! More drama, more fun!

And thanks to thunderbolt for the mash-up (Can You Hear My Boss Protect the New Gisaeng’s Heart: Episode 1) from a few months ago. There were quite a few harsh comments but F'EITCTAJ. Very brave, very clever.

Dramabeans,

Thank you so much for you witty reviews on all things k-drama. I love your insights and how you explain things to the readers that are not Korean. It definitely helped out a lot when it came to things that would have been lost in translation.

I enjoy reading your opinions on all the reviews you've written. I base my next drama choices on what you write and suggest for the most part. I also enjoy the humor and joking around on this site. You give it your all and we see your personality shine through.

Thanks for 5 years of awesomeness and here's to many more!

No drama I'm watching is complete until I also get to read the recap on dramabeans hehe (: That's why I was extra thrilled when I saw Samsooki's The City Hall recaps when I watched it for the first time last year! It has remained my favorite drama ever (sexy CSW and adorable KSA - what's not to love?!), and if I'm ever in a nostalgic mood I can get a quick recap from Samsooki! Thanks a lot!

Thanks so much to kaedejun!! I loved your IRIS and ATHENA recaps so much! I honestly couldn't make it all the way through ATHENA, but your recaps were awesome, and I loved being able to spazz with someone over the shows, but still have someone who will give it to you straight. I also want to thank Thundie, whose year-end reviews I always looked forward to, and I hope that she'll be back in the blogging world soon.

Dear Santa Claus,

Thank you so much for entertaining me with your hilarious end of the year review. I really enjoyed your present, however not drunk you might have been at that time. Please do come back next year (I'll keep some alcohol waiting).

Thank you. :)

Jatsuka

On a more serious note, thank you kaedejun so much for your Romance Town recaps! It was nice knowing that there was someone else following that cute little show with me, and they were especially helpful in giving me a heads up to skip all those annoying money machinations.

And of course, I really LOVED everyone's year end reviews, especially since they provided such a wide range of perspectives. When I sometimes didn't agree with javabeans & girlfriday's assessments of dramas, it was nice to know that there were other people whom agreed with me (making me feel less lonely). Thank you everyone!

I'd like to thank Samsooki for his brilliant recaps on My Name is Kim Sam Soon.

I found his recaps one day on dramabeans and ever since I reread them every now and then to relive the awesomeness that was My Name is Kim Sam Soon.

It is then worth mentioning that MNIKSS is my first ever Korean drama. It was hilarious and moving and silly and poignant at the same time. Then I wanted more. So I plunged willingly into the waters of the Korean drama world. It was a turbulent yet fascinating world where birth secrets, incest, fake-cest, cancer patients, authoritative parents, arrogant chaebols were the norm. Dude. I had never really seen anything like it. So there you have it, MNIKSS holds a special place in my heart, for being THE drama that pulled me into the K-drama world.

So I was elated when I found Samsooki's MNIKSS recaps on dramabeans, 6 years after the drama has aired. And he didn't disappoint. Why?

Samsooki writes in a way that distances the reader from the drama, which allows us to poke fun at it even if we love the drama so very much. In a sense he helps us to let go a little of that defensiveness we feel when someone criticises our faviourite drama, and lets us see the drama in a more objective lens. We love, but not blindly. Anymore. *v*

At the same time he writes earnestly, highlighting the poignant scenes and inserting a few of his thoughtful opinions here and there.

AND he is HI-LARIOUS. 5 stars for the puns, innuendos, jokes and snarky/witty authorial-intrusions.

So thank you Samsooki for helping me to relive the good old days! Love the nostalgia. ;)

Hi HeadsNo2,

I truly appreciate the recap of this drama. I was hesitant at first, (I couldn’t decide if I was intrigued or discouraged by the synopsis given online) to start watching, but you’ve spurned me on to great drama heights with Wild Romance!
I have currently just started watching and am extremely glad that I did. It is brilliantly funny, in the the context of school yard shenanigans that reminds me of days from long ago. It also has introduced me to an adorable and Hot! newcomer (from what I understand), Dong Ho Kang! He is perfect in this role, which really shows off the potential for more in future dramas or films. Here’s hoping we seem him in some lead roles! ;)
I literally have been laughing my socks off and slapping my computer (as though it’s an old friend enjoying the shows humor with me. My computer is new to my wild and crazy Kdrama addiction, haha). It has that old world charm of slap stick comedy which truly appeals to me. It has been great to take a break from the ‘drama’ of Kdramas and enjoy some laugh-out-loud moments. Sometimes these shows can suck the life right out of your soul, they do have a way of enrapturing your inner most desires, haha!
Thanks again for all of your hard work in recapping the first episode. Sometimes I prefer these to a whole series recap, because I have a tendency of missing the drama to read the enjoyable work everyone puts into their writing here at Dramabeans. Many thanks for past, present, and future pieces of work! :)

Yours,
ChambersofMusic

Thank you cassie.opeia and red pill for making me watch the delightful drama that Sungkyunkwan Scandal was. Even though the show was a bit of a let down towards the end, your recaps were the exact opposite to say at least. Your sense of humour and incredible writing skills and short letters to fictional characters at the beginning of the recaps( I'm talking to you, red pill) made me fall in love with a show I'd never thought I'd watch. You had pretty great material to work with in that drama (not to mention the cast, because that exceeds the definition of pretty, but that's another story...) and you managed to make it in my best - written recaps here at dramabeans. It was quite a ride patiently waiting for your recaps every week, enjoying the (sometimes) different ways you presented the show from one episode to the other, but it was so worth it!

P.S. I am not a resident of US/Canada
P.P.S. I miss the two of you!

I would like to thank girlfriday!
I absolutely LAHVE your writing style! I remember being addicted to Secret Garden early last year and by Episode 14, I couldn't take it anymore, and I had to read a summary or something so that I would be able to fall asleep and not think about it! Episode 14 was my absolutely favorite. The scene with Joowon and Raim at the ball and their kiss. That scene was my favorite moment in the entire series! The chemistry! The love! The crazy happiness I felt! I read your recap before I watched the episode, since it was like at 2am, and it portrayed everything so realistically. Usually, reading other recaps, it's just a spoiler and ruins the episode for me so that I don't want to watch it anymore. But yours kind of made it better for me. While watching it, your recap and the knowledge that I got from reading it didn't hinder my watching or affect my experience or anything like that. Since that day, Dramabeans has been bookmarked onto my toolbar, where I have super easy access to read recaps from the dramas I love from awesome authors like you and the rest of the Dramabeans cast. THANKS!!!!!!!!!

T.T NUUU, CURSE SCHOOL, I'VE MISSED THIS D: It's been too long, I've been deprived, and now I'm stalking Dramabeans again, haha. Oooh, oooh! Happy New Year (almost)!

And I would like to thank kaedejun for recapping all of my favorite dramas of 2011 and 2012 (at least, so far for 2012, lol)! :D <3 Like, without those recaps of You've Fallen For Me, Romance Town, and What's Up, I would have never known how they would've ended, or how they've been going. School never gives me time to actually sit down and watch hour-long episodes, so your recaps save my deprivation of kdrama! Especially You've Fallen For Me, ohmigawdddd, you like, saved my LIFE, lol. Thank you so much for guest recapping! And I hope you continue!
