Shin Sung-rok in consideration for Trot Lovers

Another musically inclined actor is up to join KBS’s music-centered Trot Lovers, with Shin Sung-rok being the latest name in the mix for potential casting. It’s nice to see the profile rising for Shin, who’s been working in the industry for over a decade but only recently had his big breakout playing the hilariously evil villain in this year’s rom-com sensation You From Another Star.
The role he’s up for is of an agency president, and while I don’t suppose it’s quite necessary to cast the role with someone with musical skills, I can imagine the character having a past as a singer, as Shin did. (He’s performed in numerous musicals and stage productions.) The story of Trot Lovers involves a top star musician (played by Ji Hyun-woo) and a young woman who loves trot music, who work together to make her a trot singer.
I’ll admit it was a bit jarring to see Shin Sung-rok go for the full-on mustache-twirling bad guy in You From Another Star because I’d first seen him being meek and sweet in supporting roles (such as 2008’s Three Dads, One Mom, which is where I first saw him)… but now I’ve gotten so used to his murderous scheming that it’ll be hard not to see him as that for the foreseeable future. Because while that agency president may not actually be evil, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna see him as evil anyway. The photo above? I’m seeing evil musical singer. Evil evil evil.
The heroine role has not yet been cast; I imagine with all the casting reports about this show lately, we’ll be getting a confirmation sooner rather than later. Trot Lovers will air on KBS in June as a Monday-Tuesday drama.

I hope female lead would not be IU. The premise of the drama is vaguely similar as Lee Soon Shin (in the beginning at least).

I think they're all good actresses but I seriously wonder if Eunjung's acting career will ever recover from that bullying scandal of her group. It's a shame if it never does.

Rumor has it that Eunji has been cast in the lead! I'm so excited because she is really one of the best idol trot singers around (I'm talking classic trot style singing, not remakes of trot songs).

Yup. I think it is their sharp features and the hairstyle in this particular picture that Minki also had.
As for the actor and the role - I have no problem whatsoever to imagine him as an excentric and flamboyant, quirky CEO.

Since this is a music-centered drama, I really wish Cho Seung Woo is cast in this. Having just finished God's Gift, I completely fell in love with him and I found out that he's also a talented musical actor so please Drama Gods, hear my prayers.

Yep...a character so etched in out minds that we even remember his lines.
Seeing him as anyone else is going to seriously tweak my brain. I just know I'll be thinking 'but he only seems this way on the surface... because underneath it he's really....'

in the case of City Hunter Bad Daddy it took me 2 years to get over the image, almost. but I still call him Bad Daddy even if he plays a good guy. and I will still call Sun Rok "The Evil Brother" even if I manage to believe him as a good guy

While YFAS was airing I watched the movie Lovers of Six Years with Kim Ha neul. His character was very sweet, but I was thinking the whole time evil evil, it's only a matter of time before he got the LOOK of evil on him. LOL
I grew to like the actor though, glad to see him get cast more often.

Jeez, I didn't recognize him at all.
I kinda feel like going back and rewatching that drama. It had a lot of my favs in it as the leads: Eugene, Jae Hee, Joo Sang Wook, and Jo Hyun Jae.

Yes, he was the lovable cop daddy in that drama (and I remember his mom too). It was the 1st drama in which I saw him as well. What left an impression on me was how much he had changed (and evolved) between that drama (One Mom, Three Dads) and YFAS. He had definitely grown, acting wise and looks wise. I really enjoyed his performance in YFAS, yet, it is not a stretch for me to believe him as a sweet character. I am sure he can do anything in between as well.

i really like it when actors like him get roles (villain or not) in a great drama then gets casted in other projects right away. I feel like they deserve to be noticed for working hard in the industry for so many years already. Not that i dislike rookies (or idols/singers) though.

In the BEST possible way! I just LOVED this guy's portrayal as a mustache twirling villain in YFAS. And like you Ms. Javabeans, I can't get his (evil, evil…) evilness out of my mind…even if they cast him as a sugary sweet second lead (who can resist THAT?!). He was so good, that I will be forever looking over my shoulder and pondering if my drinks are filled with some tasteless poison that makes me feel drunk but slowly makes my body feel numb as I slip into a paralyzed state…………aaaaahhhh!

Didn't register that he was in One Mom, 3 Dads. Saw him so long ago and didn't remember him much.
WOW! Caught him singing in Monte Cristo. He has a fabulous baritone singing voice and I hope he sings in this one.
You loved to hate him and his nail ring.
But he definitely left an memorable impression as Mr. Evil in YFAS and I'm glad he's got his breakthru role for TV.

Yeah after YFAS, I'd run as far away as I can from him the moment he takes any interest in me. I mean he wasn't above even killing his own brother.
Though I think puppies are safe (or are they? I don't remember if he wasn't evil towards puppies too).

I saw him in YFAS before I saw him in "Thank You", and the stark disparity between his two characters was so jarring at first. Hope I'll get his "bad guy" image out of my head before watching Trot Lovers.

Not sure if I would categorize YFAS as a romcom, considering that the plotline revolved around a serial killer and the only real humor was JJH's character acting wacky at times.
It had comedic moments, but a romcom? Not so much.

The first drama I saw him in was YFAS, so he's evil to me too. I mean, he just looks evil- the kind of evil that Mermaid Man talked about in SpongeBob. Maybe I need to go back and watch Three Dads, One Mom, but let's face it-I'm not going to.

i don't think iu voice is that suitable for trot...plus acting with your besftriend bf is kinda awkward...why don't eunji? she is kinda better actress and we know that she is totally adorable and brilliant in reply 1997. Furthermore, we know that eunji got powerful vocal...this girl is seriously talented...i just think that iu already play almost similar character before like you are the best lee son shin...
