Name That Drama: Pool kidnappings and tragic chicken

Can you name these dramas? As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Who wants dogs and tears? See if you can identify Secret Giraffe’s question:

I’m not sure if this is a movie or a drama but it’s Korean and also really old, most likely from the early 2000s but possibly older. It’s also a really sad tearjerker.

This drama/movie is about a boy who is very young — he looks like a teenager or in his 20s. He’s homeless and is always wandering around with this little girl’s backpack on his back. I think the owner of the backpack is his little sister who he can’t find. So he’s always searching for his little sister. Then he finds a dog. The dog is quite big and accompanies the boy on his search and protects him from all these things including gangsters. And while protecting the boy from the gangsters, the dog ends up dying.

There’s one more scene I remember. It was on a bus and a girl who looks about the same age as the boy gets on. The boy gives the girl money and the girl is all “Omo omo! Thank you!” and takes the money from him but he doesn’t let go of the money. So they both hold on to the money until the boy finally lets go.

Does anyone remember what this is? I really want to watch it! Thanks!

  2. I’m intrigued by the scene described by Manin — it’s clever in an evil way. I must know what this is.

So, this is a something that’s been bugging me for a while: I have this one scene off a drama stuck in my brain but can’t for the life of me remember where its from. So now I turn to you guys:

What I remember is that its an older drama (not sure on the age, though I’d say around early 2000s). The scene I remember is that a woman kidnaps the female first and second leads to get back at the male lead. She then takes them to a pool, changes their clothes and puts sacks on their heads, and make them stand on the edge.

When the male lead arrives the first woman gives him the chance to save one of the girls from drowning as she pushes both off them into the pool. I think the plan was for the hero to save whoever he loved the most, but because of the switched clothes the actual love would die, while the other one had to live knowing that she was not his choice.

Hope this rings any bells for someone!

  3. Kristy’s drama sounds familiar-ish, but maybe that’s because weekend dramas have familiar patterns. Anybody got a clue?

I been looking for this Korean drama. I think it’s a weekend drama. It’s about a family and I think they own a cafe. I think the second sister is a dentist and she is married to a dentist but their marriage isn’t going well. She was kind of forced to be a dentist because her mom wanted her to be a doctor but she loves to swim. I also remember that the youngest sister is chubby and has a crush on a worker named Danny. I really want to find this drama. Please help. Thanks!

  4. June’s question rings a few bells with me, but doesn’t fit any of the suggestions I’d offer. See if you’ve got ideas:

I remember watching this drama when I was younger with my mom. It was about two sisters, specifically the older one. She had been adopted because her parents thought they couldn’t have kids but they ended up having one later on. The mom totally favored her biological daughter and started disregarding the older adopted one. The older daughter grew jealous and abandoned her sister somewhere.

In the present, they’re both grown up. The younger sister was raised in an orphanage and can’t remember where she’s from. A moment I remember best is when the older sister pays money for her younger sister (don’t exactly remember why) but the younger sister gets angry and confronts her.

I left off when the older sister tries to commit suicide by getting in a car accident. If you could help me find this drama title, it’d be really helpful. Please and thank you!

  5. chhavi has a fairly recent drama question:

I came across this movie/drama a while ago. I’m sure it’s Korean but I don’t remember which year it was (probably around/after 2010).

The premise was that there was a high school boy and he worked in some radio station or he listened to radio all day. One day when he turned on his radio, he found out that he has been connected to a woman on that radio channel and it came out that the woman had already died (I suppose) and that he was connected and talking to her high school self (as she studied in the same school in which he is now).

I vaguely remember the connection to an antique pole or a building which was connected to the school. I think that the boy’s parents’ love story was also involved somehow. If anyone could identify this movie/drama then it would be a great help as I would really like to see it. Thanks.

  6. Anybody recall this scene from Lora’s drama?

I’m not entirely sure if it’s a drama or a movie (although I’m pretty sure it’s a drama) but I do know for sure it’s Korean. I don’t remember too much about the plot but I do remember that this girl was pregnant and her husband/boyfriend caught her eating chicken at night cause she was really craving it. Another scene I remember is that it was raining and the girl went outside in a hurry (I think to find her husband?) and she slips as she’s going down the stairs and sadly she loses her baby. It’s from the early 2000s and I would love to find out what it is. Thank you!

No.2 is 'Wild Romance'. From 2012, so not as old as the person thought.

Yeh no. 2 definitely Wild Romance. Watched that scene just last week!

But the described ending doesn't match with wild romance's ending

It is not a described ending. "I think the plan was" is how the sentence started. As in, the crazy housekeeper's plan was to have one die and the other one feel betrayed by him. It just didn't happen that way.

Yes. The clothes were changed but the guy identified his love by her undone shoe laces. Good rom-com - Wild Romance.

Thank you! I looked it up (aka, found a recap) and this is indeed the drama!

Yeah I totally remember the age wrong must be cause I was watching some older dramas at the same time as I saw this. And since I could remember nothing else but that one scene.

Yes, definitely Wild Romance. That scene is very specific :)

Though it wasn't always the most logical show (but then again so few are), I did enjoy it.

Do recommend it!

Since I came across only the story that's why I didn't knew whether it was a movie or a drama....

No 5 is Ditto! The 'pole' is the school clock tower.

The movie is from 2000 though. Isn't it so easy to get the years, even decades mixed up ;)

If it wasn't because they say it's from early 2000's, I'd say number 2 is definitely Wild Romance. That scene happens exactly as described near the end of the drama ._.

I can very well be wrong on the time myself, as the only thing I remember was that scene :p I pretty much just gave a random date as I couldn't think off any of the newer ones with similar things in it so thought it might have been an older one (and I was watching older dramas at the same time).

HUGE apologies to those who have not seen the original, which includes the Dramabeans recappers for the Korean "Fated To Love You" T.T I should have put in a *SPOILERS* disclaimer =( Again, I'm sooooo sorry!!!!

For those who also have not seen the original, but have correctly guessed it, good for you ^.^

This would be perfect for me if it was to find future dramas rather than past. Lol. Ummm two of my top favorites are Que sera sera, and Coffee house. Funny thing is a lot of people didnt really like them cuz they're very different than usual but I loved them to death especially Que sera sera. So if anyone can suggest similar dramas i really appreciate it. I think I like not being able to predict who will end up with who and I love a big emotional battle. Or a lead who's cold, but not the typical cold korean male/female lead lol more like cold with real flaws and mistakes and grows along and through self discovery or repentance. Lol Anything with lots of chemistry an little politics or little other people's nosy business is great too. Simple is better than too eventful for me. Thanks! <3

Thanks so much! I knew about Miss Korea cuz I check the drama ratings like everyday here lol but It never catched my attention. So I never looked it up like I usually do. After your recommendation I looked it up and I couldn't believe I missed it! I'm a fan of lee sun kyun lee ki woo and the female lead after seeing her in Hello school girl, and the writer. And the scenes I saw are awesome. So yeah, definitely watching it now! Can't wait lol as for the new ones I usually wait till they're done and do a lot of research so I don't end up disappointed or bored. And I loved coffee prince. It was #1 before que sera sera came into my life ?

Surprise endings are rare k-dramaland. I really liked "heartless city/ cruel city" if you can get past the strange fixation the writer has with undercover agents. Jung Kyung-ho is great as is the actress who portrayed the role of his psuedo-aunt in the gang.
Lee jun-ki's 'time between dog and wolf' is a good watch. I also liked Ji-Sung in 'secret love.' Rain's 'a time to kill' is also good. Song Joon-Ki's 'nice guy' is good.
Que sera sera is great but i wish the writers didn't cop out at the end (what happened to the baby). its good to show gray characters and eric is phenomenal in it.

Thank you so much for your reply! I really liked all your recommendations. They all seem so close to my taste, especially A love to kill. I think I'll really enjoy it. Heartless city is so interesting too! I actually added them all to my list except for nice guy(already in there lol) it usually takes a lot of time to add a drama to my list but they all look amazing. I just realized my search for such dramas wasn't good enough to not have considered them before lol And I don't remember that ended in que sera sera bothering me. I think I would've liked it more if it didn't play out like it did with the baby, but I guess they needed an easy way out lol I was just grateful for a nicely played drama over all. Yeah, Eric was what sold the show.

If it's lots of chemistry with a flawed male lead growing into a better person and a strong independent and honest female lead, I'd suggest "Protect My Boss". If it's lots of chemistry with some kickass action, then I'd suggest the currently airing "Joseon Gunman". :-)

Protect the Boss is one of my all time favorite shows. While it had flaws, I give it MAD MAD props for what it did with the second leads! Usually, second leads (esp the girls!) make you want to scream and break your screen. But in PTB, I was rooting just as hard for the 2nd female lead as the 1st! I adored the part where she shows up on the 1st lead's doorstep.... XD XD XD

Question no.5 sounds like Sky Of Love a Chinese movie of Ken Zhu and Gigi Leung in early or middle 2000's. Same premise except the woman is not dead but same generation with his parents , actually the first love of his father. They agreed to meet at the flagpole of the school and Ken was waiting for her until it rained heavily but she didn't arrived but Gigi also went there but they're of different time frame.
