Premiere Watch: Flower of Evil

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Suspense, melo
Episode count: 16

Lee Jun-ki is back in dramaland in what looks like a nice juicy drama to sink our teeth into. And I don’t know about you, but I am all in for Flower of Evil! Lee Jun-ki and Moon Chae-won play a married couple whose life seems perfect… until some disturbing discoveries are made. We’ve had a few recent dramas about marriages that were not what they seemed at first glance, but rather than infidelity or lack of communication being the culprit here, Flower of Evil takes us to a whole new killer level. What if you learned that your awesome husband has some scarily dark secrets? What if you discover that he’s the serial killer you’ve been hunting for years? Ahh! And most importantly: what if this drama isn’t the wild game of cat and mouse that it promises to be? I, for one, will be greatly disappointed, because I’m hanging all my hopes on a suspenseful dose of deception, desire, and deep dark secrets.

I'm getting some Dexter vibes in here and I CANNOT wait to start this. The trailers are really captivating. And it promises some suspense.

Won't be live watching forest of secrets so this can be my drama company for August-September.

The premise sounds so interesting. I can't decide between live watching or stacking up the episodes and watching.

Lol I don't have the patience to stack up the episodes... I watched the preimier today, DEFINITELY hooked. Expectations met, hopefully exceeded next episode. Praying he's not actually a killer... worried he might be.

Show please be good, please be good...
I recently got distracted by the awesomeness of Kim Soo Hyun but Lee Junki is my biggest crush in Kdramaland and I will always root for him. I saw the press conference and he seemed really nervous about this role so I hope the show delivers in quality at least.
On a side note I pray the blonde wig will appear only in few flashbacks because I hate it with burning passion..
Also I have no clue when I will be able to watch it with english subs...help??

"What if you learned that your awesome husband has some scarily dark secrets?"

What if...

You walk in on him, and he jumps and his whole head of hair falls off and you realize he's actually bald and he's been lying to you and wearing a wig for 14 years?

This drama has had a TON of promos/teasers. I didn't bother watching them all. I'm just like get here already~!

Hoping this drama/writing will be good and consistent to the end. Crime/mystery thrillers are a tough sell even without the married life factor.

I watched all the promos/teasers/clips. Unfortunately, I thought it gave me a little too much information - so much so that I'm already predicting the ending. But watching the drama to see if they surprise me, as in - will it be a twist on the audience (which is what I'm thinking) or just standard melodrama?

The only thing I didn't like about Lawless Lawyer was how easily he beat up two dozen guys in one scene and then couldn't handle 2 baddies in another scene. Plus, did he ever end up hospitalized with all those fights? I don't remember - maybe that means a re-watch.

TRUTH. and How the uncle died?! I liked his character! Not pleased. But I was in Korea about a year and a half ago now, and I was on either the set or a very similar set used in that drama once... I didn't know it at the time, but after I came back I saw it and was like "I know that place! I have a picture of me IN that place!!"

I really want some good romance in this mystery thriller and not some crap about them ending up as good friends or dead at the end of the drama seeing as they are a married couple . That is what I hope for from this show.

Right? I think it's actually a plot I haven't really seen before in dramaland, either... I mean, we have falsely accused people all the time, but this feels the other way around--and their relationship just makes it better^^

PS have you ever heard of the webtoon "My Deepest Secret"? It's similar, but they're just dating and he's her boyfriend. And he actually IS a sketchy killer in secret. It's great.

I have seen a couple of vaguely similar plots, but they were not near as dark as this one seems to be. In one, the boyfriend was a vigilante that only killed off really bad guys.

I don't think I've seen anything like this one so far and it just makes me so excited to go down this path haha I've seen police/thriller dramas that I've enjoyed but I feel like this one adds another layer to the overall premise because of the fact that this is a married couple with a child and the husband may have a terrible "hobby" (for lack of better wording lol)

LJK and MCW are so cute in their couple moments and those scenes dramatically juxtapose the horror of LJK's character which just makes the show that much more entertaining and trilling to watch!

Wait- what was wrong with Nice Guy's ending?? I loved it. He asked her to marry him, in his own shy way. And that was the same ring he was going to propose to her in the beginning, way back years ago. So - did he really lose his memory? Because they guy was a genius after all.
I also met LJK (now LJG) thru Two Weeks.

I wasn't impressed with the first episode at all. It was too in-your-face and not subtle. But wait, it is listed as "melodrama" so maybe that's why.
I just thought it was over acted and maybe not well directed or edited or something. It just didn't quite flow for me.
But I'll still watch.

Hmmm... I’ll have to see, then

Maybe it’s just a general feeling thing—and not the fault of the acting, writing, or directing—but Kdramas have not appealed to me for quite a while now... It’s been very hard for me to pick one up, and if I do actually manage to pick one up, I will most likely take a break from it at some point and not feel like going back to it even when I can clearly see that it is very loved by others (e.g. IOTNBO, I’ll Find You When the Weather Is Nice) 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤔🤔🤔🤔

Haha You and I are basically functioning on the same wavelength 😂😂😂

Nothing, in terms of dramas—doesn’t matter which country or region— has really appealed to me since “The Untamed” (OMG IT’S BEEN A WHOLE YEAR ALREADY 😱😱😱😱), and so, I’ve only been concentrating on variety shows, but even for variety shows, only a handful of Chinese ones have caught my attention. I’m currently waiting for the Chibi donghua (anime) version of “The Untamed” to premiere (just 1 more day... Just one more day... just one more day...)

I’ve watched 1 or 2 really short Thai BL dramas before, but it wasn’t until the last 2-3 weeks that I’ve gotten REALLY into them and have also ventured into watching longer ones (10 episodes and up). Far, I’ve watched “Love By Chance”, and “WHY R U?” and I’m currently having difficulty letting go of these 2 😅 Although, the more I rewatch “WHY R U?” the more I am getting attached to it and it’s slowly allowing me to let go of “Love By Chance” haha

0

@bebeswtz Where did you find Love By Chance? I have now watched TharnType almost as many times as Untamed - and all the stuff Mew/Gulf do together. They have so much naturalness with each other, and so much joy that they are a joy to watch. Regardless of whether or not they're "real" or it's all fanservice, I don't care. And I love the music.

1

I’m actually THISCLOSE to getting myself to finally watch TharnType haha 😆

“Love By Chance” is on YouTube!!! 😉😉

@bebeswtz Oops, I had to delete a comment due to wrong info. I added Love by Chance to my playlist, and I'm sure I'll like it, but, like Untamed, TharnType will be my number one Thai BL for a long time - make that forever!
The guy who plays Type (actor Gulf) had never been in a major role in any drama, much less BL. He's young, duh, and was very shy at the beginning. But the other actor, Mew, who plays Tharn and is a few years older than Gulf, played the big brother and really protected him through the whole experience. They're very touchy feely both in the drama and outside the drama. I loved their youtube "workshops". There's one on kissing and wow, are they good at it...

1

Haha you’re basically describing the on-screen and off-screen relationship between the 2 males of “WHY R U?” 😅😅

Saint is younger, but is more experienced, and Zee is older, but entered the show biz later..... Tis also like the relationship between Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo, now that I think about it 😂😂😂

p.s. I still watch XZ - do you?

OMG YAAAASSS GIRL!!!

For Xiao Zhan’s dramas:
Every day—every month— I’ve been hoping and praying that “The Wolf” will FINALLY get to air, that “Oath Of Love” will actually air on time in November (as stated on MyDramaList), and that “Duolou Continent” will get picked up by a broadcaster TO air it

For his variety show appearances:
I’m not too upset or let down if there aren’t that many—if any at all— because he didn’t do very much variety show appearances even before the ‘scandal’

For his interviews & other activities:
I’m always on Instagram and keep my eyes and ears open on YouTube and other platforms to see if he’s done another interview or another charity event

I’ve been rotating different pics from “The Untamed” as my laptop & phone wallpaper for the last year 😍😍😍

Yea, I miss his music activities as well. I’ve recently been rewatching a music show he was on last year (from October to December, then a special Lunar New Year episode in January, right before the scandal and COVID happened in February). The show is called “Our Song” and has 9/14 episodes subbed so far on YouTube. If you want to check it out, here is the playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGjsh-EBqdUOHA4Mo4OpgmmIFgpdRb-8l

The concept of the show is to pair a younger singer with a senior singer to revamp old classics. The first few episodes are intros to all the singers and to pair them off. Xiao Zhan appears, beginning Episode 3 😊

As far as his haters, it is what it is. If he’s not stressing over them (and he’s not—he’s just suing those who are illegally taking his name and brand to do thing and those who have intentionally defamed him repeatedly—bless his kind heart), then I’m not stressing over them. I truly believe in the light overcoming the shadow, and I know that his actions, his kind heart, and his sincerity will get him through this

1

@bebeswtz Is this the show he was on singing duets with the lady that had an awesome, awesome voice?? They were so good together! I especially loved FADED.

1

Yes, it is!!!
The lady he sang “Faded x Titanum” with is Taiwanese singer Angela Zhang, who actually stepped in as his temporary mentor when his actual mentor, Na Ying, had to be away for a few episodes for personal reason

Thanks for the link - I just went and watched Faded again! I got my friend to try Untamed and it's too bad she wasn't with us last year - she's totally obsessed.

He was beautiful in that black turtleneck. This is what I think. He is not guilty. The real killer is someone else. He loves his wife. He is Lee Jun ki after all. He is a flower. I did! I thought he was out with her, so it couldn't have been him, but good lord, it was him! Unless...he didn't kill the guy, but actually brought him home, and dragged him down to the basement, so there are two guys now with sticky tape over their mouths. 😨😨😨😨

1

My bet is that there are just 2 different guys with raintcoats roaming around in the middle of the night... I mean, the one sketchy raincoat guy defnitiely had a sketchier hideout... he seemed genuinely surprised on the phone to hear someone might be impersonating him. ... I'm holding out hope. I think his dad was a serial killer, he DID have an accomplice, but it wasn't him. So when his dad died and he went beneath the radar, then this other guy was also quiet... until he started impersonating the son and killing people?

PS what's with the "parents"? Who are they???

Who said he's a serial killer?? I think it's a false lead and assumption.

I was surprised that the g*y in the you-know-where is still a**ve. I mean, first rule of the day, if you are a serial killer, is to avoid complications, if you know what I mean. Like if you think the fish will stink up the fridge if you keep it for another day, you should just get rid of it, you know? What's the point of leaving it in the fridge? It could cause a helluva lot of problems, especially if you are living with other people in the house.

Ahahha for a second I thought I was still on a recap about "Train" (the other show I'm in love with right now) and I was like which guy? Do Won? He's the main character, he has plot protection! But now I understand. Yeah, the smart thing to do if you're already a killer probably would've just been to kill him. Unless he didn't have time before he needed to pick up his daughter from day care?

... That sentence was so weird to write.

Bet Basement Dude is being kept alive for the wife to stumble upon him and rescue him ---- or not. Maybe she'll torture him instead. Maybe she isn't as squeaky clean as she looks. Maybe she' a serial killer, too.

0

@yyishere: I'm thinking he's being kept because he KNOWS something. And, I'm thinking the same thing you are about her, heh.

0

So far I think they're trying a little too hard to convince us he's a really evil guy. Wonder if he's just trying to uncover the truth about what happened when he was a boy. And it will turn out he's not a serial killer, but someone trying to right a wrong. Okay, he is a bit psycho though...you know, from all the trauma he suffered in the past.

Truth. The ending of the second episode was a bit heavy handed. But I could still totally see it backfiring on us and him being a bad guy. I hope not though (and I agree he's definitely a bit odd... I'm guessing sociopath? Or something?)

Now the wife... she surprised me in episode 2, they're definitely not a couple to be messed with. :) :)

@cozybooks Okay, so what we know so far: the mother is cold and emotionally dead. She did seem to feel a brief sympathy for the wife ----- she was shocked when the son ordered her to sever all ties with the wife. So she calls the wife, and does what the son says, but at the end of the call, she looks troubled...a good sign that beneath that icy facade lurks a heart somewhere?

Then the parents. I feel they are fake --- probably roped in to play their parts, but they seem to be pretty rich. When he ran off as a kid, perhaps he stumbled upon them, somehow...con artistes??? But they are rich...unless he managed to get hold of money somehow...some shady business, perhaps. I can't help but feel that when they talk about his killer dad, it's the dad from his past, someone we haven't seen yet, and who knows, perhaps that dad is the one getting rid of obstacles for him...he could be the guy in the hoody. Like you said, there could possibly have been two guys that night, one of them his real dad, the killer.

And the murder of the guy in bed is linked to the pretty girl who was crying. My guess is that man who was murdered was abusing the girl ---- his stepdaughter, maybe? ------ and the boy killed the guy to protect her.
