Minor correction - I think the first show is called The Glory not The Globe, at least according to the linked news article.

Looking forward to seeing Park Sung-hoon again (RIP Joseon Exorcist) even if it's in a Kim Eun-sook drama, which are generally hit-or-miss for me. MyDramaList also lists Lee Do Hyun in the cast 🙏.

Also hoping to see Kim Young-dae and Lee Soo-hyuk in better shows this time round.

We got Park Sung-hoon and Lee Do-hyun in one drama…but at what cost?

Whoops! You're right, it is The Glory. I don't know why, but I read the "ry" as "be" in the Korean article, lol. Will get it corrected! :)

I’m pretty sure the new Kim Eun-sook drama is actually called “The Glory”. At least, that seems to be the case in the articles I’ve seen. Maybe it’s a translation thing.

The cast now has Park Sung-hoon, along with Lee Do-hyun - both of whom I love. Despite that however, I’m not all that excited about it. I’m not the biggest fan of Song Hye-gyo and Kim Eun-sook’s dramas aren’t usually my thing. And that’s before getting into the synopsis, which sounds like a fucking mess.

Oh, and I’m over Lee Do-hyun (potentially, in this example) romancing women a whole decade older than him. Noona romances are fun, but most of his tend to be a bit…much for my tastes. Let the man be with a woman his age FOR ONCE.

Noona romances are not that common. It's easy to overlook. Now the other way around...I wonder how many dramas we'd lose interest in.

I think noona romances have become a common enough staple within dramaland that it is hard to ignore unless one is deliberately trying to do so.

As for relationships between older men and younger women, those are very common and I’ve ended up watching many such dramas just because of how common it is. I don’t usually have an issue unless the women is significantly younger (as was the case in Goblin and Mr. Sunshine), or if the age-gap causes an imbalanced power dynamic in favour of the man - an all-too-common occurrence unfortunately. Besides, I don’t think one can make broad generalizations about (most) noona romances and older man/younger woman romances being similar. Societal power structures and gender roles make it a much more complicated scenario. Of course, that doesn’t mean that every noona romance is right. Take for example, Melancholia, which had a woman eventually falling for someone she taught as a high school teacher. I found that completely antithetical to my values and unacceptable to portray as a “love story”. See why I want Lee Do-hyun to stay away from noona romances for a while?

Isn't LDH doing another drama with Go Minsi, who is around his age?

He’s already finished Youth of May.

@songxrising: I don’t know if one could even classify it as a drama. It’s just a several-minutes long ad for a hangover drink. Which is unfortunate, since I’d love for them to reunite in a legit drama.

Never been impressed by Song Hye kyo’s acting, and I’ve given it more than one try (that winter the wind blows, descendants of the sun, encounter, and last drop of poison on the cake: now we are breaking up.) I couldn’t finish any of these dramas.
The last one was my breaking point.
So now I’m quite scared that Lee Do hyun, who I found great in all if his recent dramas, is going to waste his talent playing in a drama with her. (And it is not a question of Noona.)
I’ve scrolled internet in the hope that either him or her had dropped off the project, as I don’t believe that anyone or anything (screenplay included) can make her good now. But that she can damage the other. To me, she has no generosity whatsoever: She is extremely self-conscious when she plays, over narcissistic. And it shows way too much. Poor LDH…
(Criticizing like this goes against my principles - normally I abstain from saying anything as i think it’s a question of taste - but I guess today is the exception, with squid game and her, because of lee do hyun going to waste his talent in this project I am afraid…

I am not a Song Hye-kyo fan either- although long ago she did well in FULL HOUSE. That is the only drama I completed where she was a main character.

Looking back, she did do pretty well in Full House (although that wasn’t exactly a tough role). I think that and Descendants of the Sun are her only dramas I finished.

I'm STILL upset over Park Sung-hoon probably losing the chance to star with Han Hyo-joo in Happiness because of the whole Joseon Exorcist fiasco, so despite my ambivalent feelings towards Kim Eun-sook dramas, I'm actually excited for this.

I'm still so salty about it as well! It's so unfair too, as other shows were able to move forward. The whole cast got the short end of the stick. He was also supposed to star in My One and Only as the ML, but had to drop out. He lost 3 starring projects where he was the lead, so what should've been his year ended up turning to dust. As we all know, that momentum stopping can ruin/kill one's career. He's a hard worker and nice guy, so it hurt more. While I'm glad to see him in a high profile project on Netflix which hopefully gives him the buzz he deserves, but I feel frustrated on his behalf for what happened as a result.

So many dramas to choose from. I know I will skip most of those but may check a couple. I am excited for the Money Heist remake though.

I hate Disney+ kdrama roll out model. Why the hell are they only limited to APAC? Have they learnt nothing from Netflix? Stop picking up dramas if you will only release them in 4-5 countries.

Disney+ is simply being stupid. For example, we can still see Snowdrop in North America in some other method. Disney just lost a huge opportunity to get more subscribers.

The even dumber thing is they KNOW the demand for kdrama is huge yet they choose to have limited release for all of them. It's the worst logic.

It's so dumb. If they were the first streaming service venturing into Korean content, I could maybe understand, but Netflix has proven that kdramas are popular worldwide. I really want to watch Grid next month, but I hate watching illegally.

Am I the only one excited for I'll give it my all tomorrow /I haven't done my best yet? The title of this show speaks to my soul. I am essentially a procrastinator and just want to check it out to see if I'm like the ML and really need to get hold of my life. But it's Tving so there's no guarantee of subs. WLDN had subs but they released quite late.

Hm? Work Later Drink Now’s subs went up on On Demand Korea the day the episodes aired, didn’t they? I didn’t start watching until halfway through though, did it take a bit for the eps to get subes at the beginning?

Looks like ODK has been getting several TVING dramas, so I wonder if they’ll get this as well.

That's exactly what I meant when I said the subs released late. They weren't there for a first few episodes but I didn't know they were getting subbed at ODK.

Excited for Adamas. The cast and director is great and Ji Sung in a double role? Yes!

You've all echoed my thoughts about The Glory. I like Lee Do-hyun and Park Sung-hoon, but I don't know whether KES or Song Hye-kyo excites me less. Probably Song Hye-kyo after her "acting" in NWABU.

Every time I see a new project from Disney+ I get mad because I'll never see it if they don't start releasing worldwide.

Happiness director? hmm
I think Happiness was excellently directed. so Glory takes my interest

but also, Ji Sung playing twins!!!! I mean, does that give me Do Hyun / Shin Se Go flashbacks or what? please at least give us a reference, there is no other character I miss that much

I thank that drama god who implored Kim Eun Sook to stop torturing the sci-fi / fantasy genre and switch to something else ... but revenge?

Hmm, we shall see.

Kim Eun-sook usually pens some interesting side characters so I'm looking forward to seeing the casting for The Glory and Song Hye-gyo as a bitter teacher devoted to nothing but her revenge; I can picture that. But the synopsis is just wrong on so many levels. I sincerely hope there's more to it.

I'm getting irritated with SHK in dramas/movies with younger male leads. I get it, she looks great and young but she's not young anymore and she should be acting with male leads her age. I would watch her drama if she was working with someone her age or close to it.

I feel the same way about her and Park Minyoung as well who's going to act with Song Kang in her upcoming drama. They look young but they don't feel young to me and these type of pairings pretty much always lack chemistry. I think SHK in The Glory won't necessary have romance but I'm annoyed at Weather People, Now we're breaking up, and Melancholia (Haven't watched but I heard there is romance)

Required fields are marked *

Actually, Melancholia is not a classic romcom. But it is nonetheless a great one…. (Spoiler) Lee Do Hyun falls in love with his maths teacher, who is indeed older, but it is unrequited / thus platonic during the entirety of the drama, with a 4+3 year-span until they (re-)unite, and then despite the age gap, it makes so much sense, because they share such a unique passion and when you’re highly gifted, you just can’t pair with anyone, and you fall in love with an intelligence over anything else (sapiophile is the term)
So Melancholia is not a « noona romance » for me, yet a great drama and a great romance, full of charm

oh okay, I guess I was quick to judge. As I haven't actually watched and just heard stuff about it I just thought it would be the typical noona romances we see which I'm not a huge fan of, but I still feel icky about student-teacher relationships, but I guess context matters too
